  • Sunday Baseball

After two bad days in a row, I was thinking of stopping for a few days. The weather made my decision for me. First my ISP's Remote Terminal was down for two days, then my power kept going on and off today. Record breaking heat. I am 25 miles east of San Francisco. The news said the all time high tempurture for the entire Bay Area was 115 back in 1950. It was 112 here today, after three days in a row over 105. I have air conditioning but it was so hot, my A/C lost. I wonder how people living in places like Phoenix or Palm Springs, where temps over 110 are common, deal with the heat. I hope I'm comming back with some winners for Sunday.

    TORONTO +101
    TAMPA BAY -116
    TEXAS +122
    CLEVELAND +152
    SAN FRANCISCO -118
    ARIZONA -116

I will be back with a play on the night game later today.

    Baseball Record
    214-226
    Plus 26.82 units
Streak: Two big losses in a row.

gl SandMan----put a fan in fron of the AC vents, and let it cirtculate the air........Moving air (cooler than Ambience) in a Venturi effect will cool you down 10-15 degrees in the room the fan is in...........

Outside air in the 100's puts a hell of a strain on a compressor, but the condensing coils have to perform also....

You should be blowing out air at 52 degrees (approximate), and when the ambience hits it, you lose it all in a few feet....Thus you have to propel, shoot, the cold air outward, faster than ambience hits (absorbs) it.....thus a fan....you'll see a noticeable difference......makes it bearable.kapt

arizona does not have as much humidity as Ca, NY so even though the temps are higher it is not as uncomfortable as where we live.

            Is your air filter clean?
Do you have central A/C or window units?
If central, you may want to clean the condenser coil outside with a hose, you can put your thumb over it to increase the water pressure, but try to spray it straight, and not on an angle that can bend the fins.

If these 2 things don't help, you may need some freon

Best of luck Sandy- Life in Fla is not so great in these months either- and now the storms have returned. Muggy- oppressive heat - I like what Kapt had to say about the use of fans and will try it.

A Ten Unit Play For Tonight

As bad as my plays are still doing, I'M PLAYING PHILLY -1 run for TEN UNITS tonight. I am not chasing trying to get back what I've lost. This is a perfect play on Philly, one reason being teams (Atlanta) losing two in a row, after ending a long win streak will have a losing streak of up to half the games they won during their winning steak.

kapt. Thanks. I tried it and while it still dosen't cool the entire room, some parts of the room do feel cooler than without the fan. My neighbor has central air and their house is still 82 degrees inside. It's just too damn hot, 116 in the shade on my deck, right this minute. I should get a better idea of how good the new A/C is when the temp. is back to just 100 degrees. We have a neighborhood swimming pool and that's where I am going right now.

HENDRIX. It's a window unit in a wall. The unit is less than a month old. Before, there was a 8500 BTU unit which I replaced with a 12,000 BTU conditioner because it would only cool about half the room when it was over 100 outside. This is what I have a hard time understanding. My room is only 200 sq. feet. The first A/C I had was rated to cool a 250 to 300 sq. foot room. The new one is rated to cool a 550 to 600 sq. foot room. That's three times the size of my room. Granted, my room faces south, but it's partly shady most of the afternoon. Where do these ratings come from. Thankfully, the humidity here is very low, usually under 20% on hot days.

Right now my picks are just as bad as my air conditioner but play Philly minus a run for 10 units tonight.

make sure the units damper is not open and drawing in outside air, not sure if these new units have one, but the older ones had a lever that would open the damper and mix outside air with the conditioned air.

I mostly work on central air systems, but about 12 years ago used to wok on some window units...check the owners manual to see if it has that damper, you should have enough btus to cool your room with that unit
