Toronto (1-3) @ Saskatchewan (2-2)-- Struggling Argos had last week off while on three-game losing streak; they scored only 15 ppg with former Cleveland Brown Spergeon Wynn under center, and have eight turnovers in last two games. Both Rider wins are nailbiters; they allowed 53 points at home to Calgary two weeks ago, so obviously, they're erratic and tough to figure. Even in a win last week, Saksatchewan allowed 28 points, so their defense has issues- 24 is least points they've allowed in '06.

            Six-Pack for Saturday
-- Giants acquired Shea Hillenbrand from Toronto late on Friday; when you already have Barry Bonds, one more guy who is clubhouse cancer isn't going to hurt anything.
-- Mets are first team in baseball history to hit four grand slams in a five-game span. That doesn't seem possible.
-- Jose Valentin has nine career grand slams. Willie Mays, maybe the greatest player ever, had eight in his career.
-- Five different Red Sox homered in first five innings Friday
-- Russ Ortiz threw 34 pitches in emergency start Friday, getting no outs, allowing six Tampa Bay runs. Not the best way to stay employed.
-- Minnesota is fifteen games over .500, and threat to win a Wild Card spot, all of which makes the AL East race a little bit spicier. Toronto isn't out of it yet, either.

              Saturday's List of 13:

my favorite actor died Friday; Jack Warden, who for a while in the 80's, was seemingly in every movie made, was age 85. Hollywood has lost a giant, one who was born John Lebzelter in Newark back in 1920. Lebzelter, by the way, is German for "honey cake baker".

He played George Halas in Brian's Song and the trainer Max Corkle in Heaven Can Wait; all in all, he is listed as being in 153 movies by the Internet Movie Database, the last of which was The Replacements, in 2000.

His first movie role was in 1951 (You're in the Navy Now); he was also in From Here to Eternity, 12 Angry Men, couple of episodes of The Twilight Zone, Shampoo, three episodes of The Untouchables, Dreamer (all-time greatest movie about bowling), and he was Buttermaker in TV's version of The Bad News Bears.

Such was his career that his next role after playing President Bobby in Being There was a used car salesman. Warden was one of the all-time great character actors. He will be missed.

              13) Walking into the Milk House at Wide World of Sports is like going to my summer home; everything is familiar about it, and it was good to be back today. First up, the Showcase for 16-and-unders, first of three tourneys we'll be seeing. It was also good to run into my friend Dave from Kentucky, a hoop fan who is nice enough to share his insights every summer.

              12) Michael Jordan's younger son Marcus is playing; we'll be seeing him at 4:30 Saturday. He is on 15-and-under team that is playing up a year to be in this event. They split their first two games this weekend, losing tough game to Minnesota.

              11) My friend Joe had tough day, losing by hoop to Gauchos when he had the ball and 4-point lead with 2:00 left. Then his best player got hurt early in their second game, and they lost to Southpointe Shooters. Bad day for Joe, but his son Nick has really improved his shooting and fills it up now.

              10) Was back in my favorite high school gym, Poinciana High School; gym was damaged by the hurricanes two years ago, but now is fixed and looks good. Any gym where you can sit at a table and eat while watching the game is OK.

              9) One of the refs here looks a lot like Vince McMahon; you almost expect him to take a folding chair and hit someone on the head with it, or rip his ref's shirt off and start playing with one of the teams. Guess I watch too much TV.

              8) Speaking of which, made my nightly stop at ESPN Zone by the Boardwalk Hotel, and biggest cheer of night was when a poker player on ESPN2 hit quad 6's to win a tournament they were televising. Wasn't as big a cheer as when Vernon Wells hit his walk-off homer Thursday, but it was close.

              7) If Jimmy Chitwood were playing summer ball now, he'd be on the Martin Brothers Select team; they have one kid, name of Austin Emerson, he didn't miss in the game I saw. Another kid on that team, Matt Gatons, has committed to Iowa, so he can look forward to several first-round exits in the NCAA's.

              6) One kid Friday, and I won't even mention the team, played a whole game with his basketball shorts on backwards.

              5) Want to win a bar bet and impress all your friends? There is team here called the Yam City Dribblers; they're here most every year, but I never knew where they were from. Well, and I'm sure the suspense is killing you, Yam City is really a town called Opelousas, Louisiana. I am not making this up.

              4) Jackson Tigers won both their games Friday, and part of reason is that their coach works at it; at halftime of their first game today, with big lead, coach had 6-10 Jacolby Pittman on the court, working on his post moves, getting in as many reps as he could before second half started. Thats real coaching, and as a result, young Pittman is going to keep improving.

              3) Want to make a fortune? Open a Nike factory outlet store; the girl at the cash register today had so much money in her hand-- she looked like a ski lift operator in January. KLWheat would love it here; a bag of M&M's, a small bag, is $2.49.

              2) Saw a real car chase on Route 192 today; six sheriffs from the Osceola County department took off, two going on wrong side of road to avoid traffic, in pursuit of something. Looked like something right out of Miami Vice.

              1) Tomorrow, pool play in 16/under Showcase ends and the playoffs begin. Lot of good hoops down here. When we've seen some more games, we'll post our list of impressive kids, probably for Monday's website. We don't rank players- I just don't think its fair, but we list kids who made an impression on us, for whatever reason, mostly good reasons.
