  • TP's Friday, 21st of July

Never good losing the day play, and having to sweat the night play, but the Jays win gets us a break-even day.

    Baseball Plays (56-54, +6.93*)

    Toronto Blue Jays -120 (Burnett/Wright)
    Seattle Mariners -130 (Moyer/Wilson)

Two faves here, will a similar simple thought process. Both the Yankees and Red Sox are atrocious underdogs, and they're certainly dogs for a reason here.

The Blue Jays are +$440 against RHSP, and the Yankees are -$925 against RHSP. Burnett is much better than Jaret Wright, and after the injury, he has been good recently. For those who think the Yanks lineup is better - in name only, as the Jays lead all of baseball in batting average, and score basically the same number of runs as the Yankees.
Also, in home night games, the average score is BLUE JAYS 6.5, OPPONENT 4.4.

Boston is -$670 against LHSP, with a record below .500, including 6-9 on the road. They score 1.5 fewer runs per game against lefty starters than righty starters.
Seattle has no such problems with righties. They average 1.5 more runs per game against RHSP than lefties, and they are 17-15 against righties at home. Moyer's home ERA is 2.82, and this is Kris Wilson's first start away from home. He pretty much sucks - his ERA is 10.45, and his WHIP is over 2.1.

    Small personal plays:
Reds +102 - Capuano is as good as anyone in the NL, but he's struggled on the road recently, and the Brewers have all season. The Reds are the best team in MLB against LHSP (6.1 rpg) and the Brewers are among the worst against RHSP (4.6 rpg).
A's +139 (Haren/Verlander) - Just fading the Tigers' situation off the emotional series with the White Sox, and taking a shot with Haren at what seems a very high price for an even pitching matchup.

One more play - I played it bigger than most small personal plays, but smaller than most rated plays. Let's call it a 0.5* play.

Orioles (Bedard) @ Devil Rays (Fossum) Under 5 (-102) - First 5 innings line.
I don't trust these bullpens, but the under looks very solid in this one. Bedard is the hottest pitcher in baseball right now, and the Devil Rays haven't been scoring at all recently.
Fossum isn't as good as Bedard, but he is better than people realize, and most importantly, he is left-handed. The Orioles are 2-15 on the road against LHSP, scoring only 3.0 rpg.

I'm not sure what you mean. I made a small bet on the A's, but never mentioned Detroit to the best of my knowledge.

                  Anyway, thanks guys.

Why do you have Kris Wilson listed for Red Sox as pitching in your writeup?

Because I'm an idiot - I guess I got the Yankees' blowbag and the Sox's blowbag confused.

                      The play should read (Moyer/Snyder).
                      Thanks savage.

I knew you meant Snyder but just wanted to point it out to you.
Hopefully, I will pull a reverse jinx from a Red Sox fan's point of view, but yeah Snyder sucks and isn't "exactly" my choice to pitch Game 7 of the WS;a prayer should be forthcoming to get 3 innings out of him and/or that Sox can get him about 5 runs in the first inning of any game in which he pitches.

Very nice writeup- Love to play on writeups more so than just looking at the name of a team. Shows you do your homework! Good Luck
