well the tigers did come back and win last night. that makes them 4-10 against the big 3. now lets look at the bosox, your team. do you really think they can go far with 2 pitchers? clement has been hurt, wakefield is done for the year. oh yea they picked up jason johnson, nice move there, where is he pitching again? the tigers pitching is young and they're getting better as the season moves along. maroth will be back next month ( hopefully ). the yankees could overtake the redsox and would knock them out of the playoffs. would it matter if boston beats detroit all year and misses the playoffs? plus what if they miss the playoffs, and the tigers win the world series? it could be a long off season in boston. well best of luck to both teams. i really hope its the yankees who miss the playoffs, i hate them as much as you do.

If all this were an absolute truth they would not play the games and just give the tigers the crown.....

I think the red sox staff is good and getting better...Here is what we have in terms of quality: Schilling, Beckett and Lester......(it was a blessing that Clement is gone).....Wells will be in the rotation next week and he is a warm weather pitcher and when others are tiring in September/October his arm will be fresh......There quest for a 5th starter will begin in earnest soon and it will not be Jason Johnson, but it was worth taking a flyer on him.....You never know....the Yanks have been known to catch lightening in a bottle....(a la Small and Chacon).....There pen is very very good.......DelCarmen is getting better all the time as his ERA plummets, Hanson is good and Timlin and Paplebon are among the best....Lopez has been good against lefties.....Tavares and Saenez have stunk......So to answer the question, that is where the pitching is.......

All this talk about stats and wins means nothing.....Let them play the games.....It is a long long season.....The Tigers have not really hit a rough patch.....but every team does......

I actually like the Tigers team and i wish them well...

Keep in mind also, in 1990 the LA Dodgers went 4-8 (something like that) vs Mets (they played more games then) and the beat the Mets in 7 games in the NLCS
        Good Luck to everyone

Richie: [after Gus hits a homerun] Wow and he did it without steroids.
        Clark: What's steroids?
Richie: Something that makes your pee-pee smaller.
Clark: There must be steroids in macaroni!

I agree with you. What happens during the season doesn't mean shit in the playoffs. Teams with the better pitching usually win in the playoffs.

Detroit has the best staff ERA in the majors by about 1/2 a run and doing it in the DH American League. I just can't see them folding their tent in the playoffs because they lost to those teams in the regular season. That staff is shaping up to be the best 1 through 5. Alot of baseball left, and a lot can happen. But for now, Detroit's pitching staff is the BEST.

I copied and pasted it along with the convo I had with 3Jack about me thinking Todd Jones was a better closer than weak ass Billy Wagner and sent a email to Tood Jones himself.. He said he would print it out and show it to his team and make the Tigers and me look smart for knowing the real answer to the question!!

Sorry guys I was on vacation for the last two days and couldn't respond.
Actually I just did in the thread I started about Tigers showing real colors and it is positive.
To Detroit David-I read your post and while you have some valid points, I still think Sox have a clear advantage if experience means anything.
Can you with a straight face say that if series were played between Red Sox and Detroit tomorrow and had no allegiance to Detroit, you would bet them to defeat Sox?

I think it would be hard not to if they had home field. You only know what you're going to get from 1 Boston starter.

                          Ok-I don't agree.
Even though I admit it is difficult not to be biased, I feel that in view of what many of the Sox players have been through during the last few years, a number of whom were on that WS team and who also played in a number of playoff games during the last few years, I would still give the Sox the edge.
Obviously, experience isn't the only factor, but somehow it would be hard to bet against Ortiz, Ramirez, Veritek, Nixon, Schilling, etc. and other guys who have been there before in favor of unproven guys(in the playoffs).

are you referring to Lester or Schilling???? Nobody knows exactly what they are going to get from a starter....Detroits Kenny Rogers is one of the best....but on the big stage he has come up small....So my point is.....You never know until they play......There is always someone who you do not expect who rises to the occasion and someone who plays real small.....

I will say that savage's point about Wells coming back - if he can stay healthy - could be a very big factor, since he would be more rested. Also, the Tigers and A's are very bad against LHP, and that could be an advantage.
Lester is on the road to being good, but after 7 starts you can't assume he is going to be very good in the postseason.
Schilling we know comes up big, but I just think the Tigers rotation is a lot deeper, and their bullpen is clearly better.
