    Six-Pack for Wednesday
-- Atlanta scored 65 runs in their last five games, and now trail by just four games in the Wild Card race. Amazing.
-- Jason Marquis allowed 12 runs Tuesday, third time in his last six starts he allowed seven or more runs.
-- Umpire Mike Reilly hosed Seattle bigtime on play at first in 9th inning Tuesday; without that call, Mariners win game before the rain delay. Seattle has now lost three extra inning games since Saturday.
-- Game turned weird after rain delay, with Andy Phillips in at second base, ****** Damon playing 1B. Alex Rodriguez' injured toe "healed" miraculously when he pinch-hit in the 7th inning, and played the rest of the way.
-- Totals in San Diego Padre games since the All-Star break:
27-14-15-14-16. Very strange. They need a humidor like the one they use at Coors Field now.
-- Orioles have had six three-game winning streaks, but are 0-6 when going for a four-game streak.

      Wednesday's List of 13: Final pre-vacation thoughts........
      13) Seth Davis, college hoop writer for Sports Illustrated, has posted his view on the Kojo Mensah saga; here is the link to what he had to say on the subject. Go to the end of article; it is the last thing he writes about.

      12) With college football schedules expanding to 12 games in 2006, Rivalry Saturday has expanded to cover two Saturdays, so we'll be seeing lot of college ball Thanksgiving weekend.

      11) College basketball will be starting week earlier too, so we will be having a busy November here on the website.

      10) With Royce Clayton now on the Reds, he is playing with his ninth major league team, sixth in last five seasons.

      9) In Jason Schmidt's last six starts, Giants scored a total of nine runs for him.

      8) Why do the Cincinnati REDS' hats have black brims? Is it not the REDS? Why the fascination with black in uniforms?

      7) NCAA denied Alabama's Chuck Davis an extra year after he wrecked his knee in early January last season. From what I read, Davis is good kid, so thats too bad, but NCAA doesn't have great reputation for having a big heart.

      6) Mountain West Conference might be the most balanced basketball league in country; in last seven years, they've had six teams out of their nine win regular season, six of nine win conference tournament. Thats pretty good balance.

      5) Now that the Big East is too large at 16 teams, and some of the teams will be left out, because it will be rare when more than nine teams make 65-team NCAA field, it figures that Big East coaches will be whining for more teams in the NCAAs. Cincinnati's being in Big East cost them a bid last March.

      4) Right now, as we're heading to British Open and BC Open this week #125 on the PGA Tour money list is Olin Browne, at $419,537; #126 is Carlos Franco, at $416,016. So far in ' 06, 47 players have earned $1M+ on Tour.

      3) Is it ridiculous to think that, right now, the Red Sox' best starting pitcher is rookie lefty Jon Lester?

      2) If I rooted for the Kansas City Royals, I'd have to live in a house with padded rooms; to think their team is so terrible, but their owner pockets $20M a year in profits is revolting.

      1) Congrats to one of our favorites, Bill Raftery, who won the Curt Gowdy Award and will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in September. It takes a lot of onions to win a prestigious award like that!!!!!
