  • Question for the BC Throng!

First something Bush was overheard saying.
Donald Rumsfeld is giving President Bush the daily briefing and he finishes with telling the President that three Brazilian soldiers were killed in Iraq yesterday. The President turned white, and was visably shaken with the news. All he could say was, "How could this happen???" followed by "How many is a brazilian??"

OK - When it seems apparent that Wash/Fla Is an over due to trends- stats and so on- and the total is at 9- which seems awful low---Why does it hit on the opposite so many times.

Any insight into this-what does Vegas know that we don't know- is that fair to ask. I have chalked it one more time to experience because last night it hit and today is does not- that is simply a question that I would like more info on- Why did Vegas place the line at 9?

A woman was shopping at her local supermarket where she selected:
      1 half-gallon of 2% milk
      1 carton of eggs
      1 quart of orange juice
      1 head of romaine lettuce
      2 lb. can of coffee
      1lb package of bacon
As she was unloading her items on the conveyor belt to check out, a drunk
standing behind her watched as she placed the items in front of the cashier.
While the cashier was ringing up her purchases, the drunk calmly stated,
      "You must be single".
The woman was a bit startled by this proclamation, but she was intrigued by
the guys intuition, since she was indeed single. She looked at her six
items on the belt and saw nothing particularly unusual about her selections
that could have tipped off the drunk to her marital status.
Curiosity getting the better of her, she said," Well, you know what, you're
absolutely correct. But how on earth did you know that"?
The drunk replied, "Cause you're ugly."

21 year old wins WSOP Bracelet-

LAS VEGAS -- A 21-year-old film student from Los Angeles who dipped into a college fund and his parents' wallets for his entry stakes has become the youngest player to win a World Series of Poker event.

Jeff Madsen, at 21 years, 1 month, 9 days old, outlasted 1,578 players in a three-day, $2,000 buy-in no-limit hold'em event, to earn $660,948 and his first World Series of Poker bracelet late Sunday night.

"I convinced them that I was going to play well," Madsen said of his parents, who put up $3,500 to help him buy into several events. He took $6,000 more out of a fund his grandfather started to help pay for college to buy into other events.

"They're happy about it now," he said.

Madsen's successful run began early in the world's biggest poker marathon, which began June 25 and wraps up Aug. 10.

Two weeks ago, he placed third in an Omaha high-low tournament, ahead of such pros as Daniel Negreanu, Huck Seed and Andy Bloch, to win $97,552.

"That blew us away," said his mother, Harriet, a 54-year-old health insurance agent. "This ... it's just sort of sinking in."

In his final hand Sunday, Madsen held a jack and seven against an ace and seven in the hands of Taiwanese-born software executive Paul Sheng. After the turn card showed a board of 10, nine, eight and six, all of Sheng's chips went in the pot. Madsen called with a higher straight and won.

The previous youngest player to win a World Series of Poker bracelet was Eric Froehlich, who won a $1,500 limit hold'em event last year at 21 years, 3 months, 3 days.

                  Spearit,
You nailed that wash-florida thing perfectly. I have been for years trying to understand why when the stats all point towards one thing, the outcome is usually the opposite. Really think about if the oddsmakers arent looking at the same things were all looking at, then what are they looking at that we dont get to see. It also happens when you see lots of good cappers lining up on the same side, that play goes down and the question is what did they look at that was so wrong?
Am truly baffled by how this happens time and time again.

Thank you cd- I just needed to hear it from another member. I see sport touts who bite on these repeatedly and get shafted- What does Vegas know that we don't--- could it be the rotation of the bullpen meaning their strongest are due for duty once the pitcher runs out of gas--- I really don't get it. I am missing something and inquiring minds want to know!

exactly, its like we are all being fed the wrong trends and stats to look at, which will lean us to the loser.
also dont you find you can go 2-8 alot more days then you can go 8-2, that really drives me nuts. Why is the L side that much more powerful then the w side and how do we all manage to find it so easily.
Man i could go on and on about this, but it would just make me go further crazy.

I hate to sound pessimistic-I have mentioned this before in my bizarro world excerpts- I can appreciate anyone having the number of winning days that Chuck has had or BHS (Charlie) hitting a 10 team favorites only parlay for 12 grand- but what happens to most of us is we get tentative about our betting- we play not to lose much versus in opposition to really winning. We jump on plays that make sense only to find that non-sense rules. I like playing one to two maybe 3 games a day. I may double on the following day given if I am in a system-- but I have no winning formula to speak of and I have only been gambling for 2 years now. I watch many of the members fall out- feeling overwhelmed by the compulsion to win. I am really not sure if we should be gambling more than a few bucks. Sometimes the fun just goes away. What Vegas does wins for them- think like Vegas- no- that is not the answer---they get the vig and the 50% or so win model and clean up. The vig is where they get ya- mainly. That vig will only continue to get worse- because people will take a play and vig no matter what usually. It can be fun but alas the casino wins on a constant vasis.
Bodog gives you 10 percent- with your deposit- you have to bet 3 times the amount to keep your bonus-- I rarely lose it but it makes sense to cash out repeatedly- They are not happy with me right now!!!

I agree completely with what you said. As recently as last Sunday I researched the matchups on scores and odds, picked only games (both totals and sides) where I had a decided advantage. I entered them in W agerline contest and went 2-12. It happens all the time. I don't think the offshore places have any more knowledge than anybody else. If anybody did, they would be be getting rich betting into it. For whatever reason, betting into the Public perception is the way to go. As far as trends go, I think everything evens out, so if you bet against them instead of with them, you would be better off. I think another method that works well is to go with streaks (hot and cold teams, all sports) and you can win. A few of the winning cappers on this site seem to do this well. (thesandman, linemover, 3WM and CC)

Again we have the Wash Fla matchup- DetroitDavid is on the over with the analysis of Wash pitcher continuing his wild ride. It is perception - will it hold true- more times than not- it is all smoke and mirrors- but how else are you gonna cap ththe games -if this isn't it-- play on hot against cold teams!

I too think this game (wash/fla) goes over.......If I had the answer to all the above questions, I'd have enough money to buy the Internet and let you all know whats the best way.........

I don't think you can go wrong though with hot teams against cold teams..kapt
