    Six-Pack for Monday
-- Mets had never scored 11 runs in an inning before they did it Sunday; eight of the 11 runs were unearned.
-- Chipper Jones is on fire, and don't look now, but Atlanta isn't out of the Wild Card chase yet. Braves' pitching isn't good, but they've been scoring a lot of runs.
-- I have to laugh when the FOX baseball guys make Bronx Bombers sound like spunky underdogs; this is a team with $200 million payroll- they should be able to absorb injuries and still win games. Underdogs they're not.
-- Texas beat the Orioles 15-1 Thursday, then scored three runs in their next three games. Baseball is strange.
-- Bill Buckner sang Take Me Out to the Ballgame Saturday at Wrigley; he was .289 career hitter with 2,715 hits and 174 homers, but, sadly, thats not what he'll be remembered for.
-- If you look at the nine teams in both west divisions, you can't find one good baseball team. Angels are probably the best right now, if their starting pitching stays healthy.

Monday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but...................
      13) Some clarification from Friday's Six-Pack, when I wrote on Jeffrey Jordan, and how he's only been offered a scholarship by Loyola-Chicago. Jeffrey is Michael Jordan's son, and he is a very good player, but not ACC or Big East-type player.

      12) Good news for football fans is that Jim Mora's TV show on the NFL Network, which was on Monday afternoons last season, will be on five days a week this year. Coaches have their news conferences, then Mora comments about them; on Tuesdays and Thursdays, college coaches will be featured.

      11) Mora, who had some of the most bizarre media sessions when a coach with Saints and Colts, is actually pretty funny. If you like football, you'll enjoy that show.

      10) Why didn't ESPN show the ESPYs live on Wednesday?

      9) As if they're not far enough over the salary cap, Knicks' Las Vegas summer league team stayed at Wynn, while rest of the league stayed at New York, New York.

      8) KL Wheat called Sunday night and was telling me about a guy named Charlie Maxwell, who hit 120 homers in five years with the Tigers in mid-50's, but only hit 28 other homers in his 14-year career. Seems like Charlie was convinced he hit better on Sundays than the rest of the week. Not really sure why.

      7) I collect baseball hats, so I wanted to go online and get a FullTilt.com hat, from the poker website. Problem is, you can't buy them, you have to "earn points" buy playing for cash on their website. That would be one very expensive hat.

      6) Saturday was first day of baseball since Sept. 15, 1978 that there were no saves recorded; six were blown, and six games were decided by 6+ runs.

      5) USA Today's oddsmaker Danny Sheridan has named San Diego coach Marty Schottenheimer as a 3-1 favorite to be the first NFL coach to resign or be fired this season.

      4) Boston College has a backup QB named Billy Flutie; he is the nephew of Doug Flutie, who recently retired from NFL.

      3) Underrated college football coach-- Jeff Tedford of Cal- he is 33-17 in four years at Berkeley. The year before he got out to Cal, Golden Bears suffered through a 1-10 season.

      2) Through Friday night's games, there was only one catcher in National League with 266 plate appearances who had .232 or better batting average (Paul Loduca, .304). Jason Kendall's .265 averaged ranked him 8th among AL backstops.

      1) Trying to organize a room in my house, I found the Mattel Horse Race analyzer, a remote-control like device that picks horse races. I bought it in 1980, and darned thing still works. I hadn't seen it in ten years, as things tend to get lost amidst all the clutter in my life, but thing picked a 19-1 shot at Belmont Sunday that ran second, with a favorite on top. Not bad.

                "The Royals won yesterday."

Thank you Jimmy! I have noticed that, occasionally, there are mistakes in this info. They'll not update every fact every day.

You're obviously reading closely and that's what it takes to catch 'em!

Some of them make for just downright funny reading!

But, it doesn't happen often and, if you're reading closely, the mistakes will not trip you up.

                Good luck today, Bubba!
