Sunday's List of 13: Offseason look at the Dallas Cowboys
            13) All TO, all the time; can you imagine what ESPN is going to be like, once Terrell Owens reports to Cowboy training camp? It is THE story this summer, how Owens, Bledsoe and Bill Parcells get along. Somewhere, Andy Reid will be relieved it isn't his problem anymore.

            12) Last year, Dallas started out 2-2, finished 2-4, but went 5-1 in between; they went 4-4 on road, but only 5-3 at home, blowing Week 2 Monday nighter to Redskins 14-13, on two long TD passes in last 5:00. They also lost OT game at home on Thanksgiving to Denver, and meaningless finale vs Rams. They'll need to be better at home in '06.

            11) Not only did Dallas blow Week 2 game to Skins, they got smoked 35-7 in rematch, as Washington ran for 171 yards, forced four turnovers and started five of their 12 drives in Cowboy territory. Bledsoe passed for only three yards per attempt in that game. Again, they'll need to do better vs Redskins, because Eagles aren't going 0-6 in division again.

            10) Philly outrushed Dallas 181-58 in Week 10 Monday night game that ended Eagles' season, when McNabb threw fateful pick for TD to Roy Williams. It looked as if that play would make Cowboy season, getting so lucky to win a game, but they were just 3-4 from that point on.

            9) Cowboys were -5 in turnovers last year, but still scored four more TD's than their opponents; they also forced 25 more incomplete passes than they threw.

            8) Dallas converted on 41.4% of third down plays, a pretty good number that figures to go up if Owens is productive; they were 5th in NFL on drives that started 80+ yards from end zone (1.71 ppp)

            7) With Sean Payton gone to New Orleans, Parcells figures to shoulder play-calling load; Dallas was outscored 34-21 on its opening drives last year, outgained by an average of 38-30. It was even worse on first drive of the third quarter, with Pokes outscored 40-17, outgained by average of 30-21. That 74-38 scoring deficit on opening drives was T27th in NFL.

            6) Dallas was 1-7 last year when they scored 17 or less points, 8-0 if they scored more than 17; with healthy, non-cancerous Owens, they won't be held under 17 very often, as long as Bledsoe stays upright most of the time.

            5) Pass defense is going to be huge area for Dallas defense; Chiefs averaged 9.8 yards per attempt, Redskins 6.2 and 8.2, Carolina 7.3, Lions 6.5, 49ers 7.4, Oakland 7.8. Cowboy DB's have to stop getting burned, if this team is to make playoffs.

            4) Cowboys drafted Ohio St LB Carpenter, whose father played for Parcells in Jersey, then they got a Charlie Weis-coached TE from Notre Dame, who reminds us of Bavaro. I don't know how Weber State does, but all the other kids Dallas drafted come from winning programs.

            3) Old friend Sean Payton brings his Saints to Texas Stadium in December; teams are also playing preseason game over in Shreveport, since Superdome won't be ready in time.

            2) Dallas has Week 3 bye, then Owens returns to Philadelphia October 8; they host Eagles Christmas night. At no point during season do Cowboys play consecutive division games, which is odd. They do get three road games in row (Carolina-Washington-Arizona) in Weeks 8-10.

            1) If I were a Cowboy fan, I'd be upset, because Owens is a timebomb that will detonate at some point; it is inevitable. If I were Parcells, I'd be happy, because it is possible the blowup won't be this year, Owens could be great, Bledsoe could turn the clock back, and Dallas could have big year, letting Parcells retire as a conquering genius.
