    Detroit -1

On the road, Detroit is batting .274 and scoring 5.7 runs/game. At home, Seattle is batting .258 and scoring 4.5 runs/game. Over the past seven games, Detroit is batting .277 and scoring 5.3 runs/game, while the Mariners are batting .207 and scoring 3.0 runs/game. Against right-handed pitchers, Detroit is batting a healthy .289 and scoring 5.7 runs/game.

From a pitching perspective, the Tigers hold a significant edge as well. Let's analyze the numbers:

Detroit's bullpen has compiled a 3.72 ERA on the road, while Seattle's bullpen has an ERA of 5.46 at home. Over the last seven games, Detroit's bullpen has been solid, posting a 3.32 ERA and a low WHIP. The Mariner's bullpen has posted a 5.66 ERA over the same time period. At night, the numbers also favor Detroit's bullpen.

Bonderman has been solid all season: 2.88 road ERA and a 1.89 ERA over his last three starts (averaging 6+ innings per start). Meanwhile, Pineiro has been terrible: 6.40 ERA at home (a pitcher's ballpark) and a 8.40 ERA over his last three starts. Moreover, Pineiro has been averaging less than 6 innings per start which means we are certain to see a lot of Seattle's bullpen (at least 3+ innings). Once again, advantage Detroit.

Play Against - Home teams (Seattle) - cold hitting team - batting .200 or worse over their last 3 games, with a cold starting pitcher- WHIP >= 2.000 over his last 5 starts.
    (36-13 since 1997; 73.5%)

This system is 1-0 this season and 18-1 since 2002.

Detroit is 32-14 on the road, 11-1 as a road favorite of -125 or more, 9-1 after scoring 10+ runs, 17-6 after 4+ consecutive road games and 40-16 after a win.

Seattle is 5-16 after scoring 2 runs or less, 5-13 after 5+ consecutive home games, 1-6 off a loss to a division rival as a favorite and 3-9 when playing with triple revenge.

SEATTLE (Ticker) -- Joel Pineiro will try to end speculation about his rotation spot when he faces a team he historically has dominated.

Pineiro will get the ball Friday, when the Seattle Mariners host the opener of a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers.

In his most recent start Saturday, Pineiro was pounded by Colorado for seven runs and nine hits in 2 2/3 innings. He was spared defeat as the Mariners rallied for an 8-7 victory.

The 27-year-old Pineiro has posted a 7.74 ERA in his last 11 appearances, prompting Mariners manager Mike Hargrove to hint at replacing him in the rotation. Pineiro will try to end the first half of his season on a positive note vs. the Tigers, against whom he has gone 5-0 with a 2.37 ERA in eight lifetime appearances - seven starts.

The last time Pineiro defeated Detroit was 2003, when he went 3-0 with a 0.89 ERA in three meetings. The Tigers fell one loss shy of matching the major league record of 120 setbacks in a season that year.

Times since have changed for the Tigers, who enter this series with the best record in the majors, including a remarkable 31-14 mark on the road. They will look to improve on that behind Jeremy Bonderman (7-4, 3.65), who has not allowed more than two runs in any of his last six starts.

Bonderman gave up two runs and seven hits in five innings at Pittsburgh on Saturday, leaving after just 73 pitches due to stomach tightness. Things went downhill after Bonderman departed as the Tigers were dealt a 9-2 setback.

The 23-year-old Bonderman has not lost in nine road starts this season, going 5-0 with a 2.88 ERA. He dropped his only previous appearance here, however, allowing three runs and nine hits in seven innings of a 3-1 setback on May 23, 2004.

Now - here is a something you might like to know-
I have been on the Dodgers as my team this year- due mostly to their farm system and addition of Furcal - Kent and so on. Great hitting team - pitching is so so--- now here's the rub--

as of 7-6-06---Dodgers are 30-12 Over at home. (I won again on them last night- barely.):broom:
