    Six-Pack for Wednesday
-- Two highlights of July 4: Guy at the hot dog contest in Brooklyn calling contestants "Masters of Mastication" and my father refusing to turn off Bronx-Cleveland game, since he despises the Bombers, and they were losing, 19-1.
-- Kobiyashi, by the way, won his sixth straight title in the Nathan's Hot Dog eating championship, edging some guy named Chestnut by a couple of weiners.
-- Travis Hafner has 70 RBI in 82 games, but didn't make the All-Star team. That makes sense.
-- '52 Pirates were first team to wear plastic batting helmets.
-- BJ Upton has 28 errors playing shortstop at AAA, so if Tampa Bay wants to trade Julio Lugo, not sure who they'd have play short. Upton sure isn't the answer.
-- Lugo, by the way, has carrer batting average of .373 when he faces Curt Schilling (19-51).

Wednesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but................
      13) Have to give the folks at SNY (Mets' TV channel) credit; they led with story of relief pitcher Feliciano criticizing Mets' manager Randolph's use of his relievers. You'd never hear a discouraging topic like this on certain other channels.

      12) By the way, if I were a marginal relief pitcher, I'd keep my piehole shut, when it came to criticizing the manager.

      11) Mariners are only team in big leagues to use five starting pitchers this season; everyone else has used more.

      10) Bronx baseball team spent $2M signing a Latin American catcher who is 16 years old. Nationals are expected to be the leading bidder for Tony Pena's son ($1.4M). Why aren't these players subject to the amateur draft?

      9) Chicago Bull mascot was charged with striking undercover police officer during an appearance this weekend. Seriously. He was in full costume and got arrested.

      8) How is Jim Rice not in the Hall of Fame? When he came to the plate with a bat, he was a fearsome hitter. Just because he and the media didn't get along, is no excuse to exclude him.

      7) Pirates put reliever Capps in game with two on, one out in sxith inning Monday, and he induced double play on the first pitch, preserving what was 4-2 lead that wound up not lasting

Did some research on Don Larsen tonight, fifty years after he threw perfect game in World Series..........
      6) Larsen was 10-33 his first two years in big leagues, for the Browns/Orioles; he was 3-21 in '54, just two years before he threw the only perfect game in World Series history.

      5) Larsen was decent hitter, with .242 career batting average and 14 career home runs.

      4) On December 11, 1959, Larsen was traded to the A's, with a certain Roger Maris going to the Bronx team. Larsen then had a dismal 1-10 season for Kansas City A's in 1960. Maris fared a little bit better with his new team.

      3) You can now buy a casket with the logo of your favorite big league ballclub on it. Thats just great.

      2) Dwayne Johnson, better known as "The Rock" on WWE telecasts, tore his achilles tendon training for upcoming role as a QB in football movie, The Game Plan. Production is set back four months by Johnson's injury.

      1) Charlie Reliford has umpired two of Scott Kazmir's games in 2006; he beat the Red Sox and Bronx in those two games. Can we get this guy on a retainer
