Baseball Play of the Day (40-42, +2.06*) - Two plays on the same game:
Atlanta Braves -115 (Ramirez/Benson)
Under 9 (+101)
Quietly, the Braves are starting to play quite a bit better. They've been in every game lately, and their bullpen is starting to come together. Sosa looks pretty good in the closer role - the mistake to A-Rod is really the lone exception - and they face an Orioles team in their worst role. The O's are now 1-13 on the road against lefties. They score fewer than 4 rpg overall against LHSP, and Ramirez has been a surprise for the Braves. His 3.50 ERA is good, his 2.89 ERA last 5 is very good, but his 1.70 home ERA is incredible.
Benson's overall ERA is 4.23, and his road ERA is 5.00, but he has been pitching well lately. Last five starts, his ERA is 3.00. Two of those were road games at the Mets and Blue Jays, and he gave up only 4 ER in 14 innings.
Both pitchers work pretty deep in games (Benson averages 6.1 IP, and Ramirez averages 5.8 IP despite getting knocked out of one game by injury in the second inning.) The bullpens shouldn't see that much action, and they have been pitching better anyway. And how about this? 8 straight Braves games have gone under.
Hard to see both losing, but not hard to see both winning.
