    Week 3 CFL

Toronto (1-1) @ BCLions (1-1)-- Home teams are 8-1 in CFL so far this season, with Lions splitting pair of games with division rival Saskatchewan; BC passed for 665 yards in first two games, forced four turnovers, but couldn't hold 11-8 halftime lead over in Regina that would have given them 2-0 start. Argos ran ball for 113 yards in opener, but only 18 in loss at Winnipeg, and the backup QB, Wynn, only got 94 yards through air vs Bombers.

Edmonton (1-1) @ Winnipeg (1-1)-- Bombers have 279 rushing yards in two games this year, but complete just 57% of passes-- they've yielded 12 sacks while attempting just 49 passes, so the offensive line has issues. Eskimos rallied for home win last week after trailing Stampeders 9-0 at half; they've passed for 785 yds in two games, but scored just 16 ppg. Again, noly road team to win so far in CFL this season was Montreal, who won 32-14 at Hamilton last week.

      Six-Pack for Friday
-- Doug Mientkiewicz is on All-Star ballot and Nick Swisher isn't. Ugh. Why do the Royals have anyone on the All-Star ballot? They're horrible.
-- The Knicks will still be bad next year, but they'll run a lot and at least be watchable. Their drafting makes some sense when you realize that they want to play faster.
-- Lot of times, the second round of the NBA Draft is more fun to watch than the first, because ESPN fills time with lot of interviews with team executives, all "thrilled" with who they picked that night.
-- Calgary Stampeders drove 37 yards on two plays in 0:11, then drilled 45-yard field goal as time expired to nip visiting Hamilton TigerCats 23-22 Thursday night.
-- There are four teams within a game in NL West; Arizona is only four games out, despite recent 3-20 skid. Seattle is playing better ball and is now in second place in AL West.
-- If you get a chance to go to Hartford for the GHO over in Connecticut this weekend, my advice is to hang out by the driveable par-4 15th hole. You can turn around and see the tee shots on 18, take short walk and watch the 17th green. Plus, excellent hot dogs in the concession by 15th tee.

        Friday's Nobody asked me, but...........
        13) If I ran baseball, there would be no DH in regular season, but there would be one in the All-Star Game; the starting DH would be managers' choices.

        12) To those who want the NCAA tournament expanded: every team already has a shot. It is called Championship Week, and except for the Ivy League, all the teams can get into the NCAA's by winning their conference tournament. Expansion of the tournament, except possibly to 68 teams (creating four play-in games, instead of one) is ridiculous.

        11) Diamondbacks are 3-20 since the Jason Grimsley story came up. Coincidence?

        10) Good stuff on espn.com this week; Ivan Maisel has listed the best player in college football to wear each number, from 1-99, with 20 guys listed each day. My complaint in numbers 1-60 is that Carson Palmer was a better college player than Joe Montana; if he ranks Danny Weurffel ahead of Elway and Vick, then Palmer is ahead of Montana.

        9) He picked ****** Lujack over OJ Simpson, which is two controversial Notre Dame-over-USC choices. Understandable why he left OJ off, I guess. Maisel couldn't come up with a #29 for his list, and he did ton of research for this list. Eric Dickerson wore #29 in pros, but #19 at SMU.

        8) In the major leagues this year, in games with just one lefty starter, the lefty's team is 257-221.

        7) Coco Crisp made one of the all-time great catches with two out and tying run on base Thursday, a diving grab going to his backhand towards leftfield, preserving a 3-2 Boston lead.

        6) #125 on PGA Tour money list is Arjun Atwal, at $370,008; there are 43 guys who already earned $1M+ this season.

        5) #1 on the Champions Tour money list is Jay Haas, with $1,305,735 in only nine events.

        4) The Asheville manager who threw a wild tantrum over the weekend was fined $1,000 and suspended for a week. And good luck finding another job next year.

        3) Major league umpires (min. 10 games behind plate) whose games behind the plate yield the least hits/innings pitched:
        1- Reynolds, 0.89; 2- Carlson, 0.90; 3- Froemming, 0.92.

        2) The NCAA just paid around $50M for the NIT, so I doubt they're going to just out it in mothballs to expand March Madness. It is fine the way it is.

        1) My DH choices for this year's game would be Freddie Sanchez from host Pirates (leading write-in candidate), and Joe Mauer (hitting over .370) from small market Twins would be good choices.
