What was up with the 1986 celebration tonight?

    Was it voluntary?

Really not trying to poke fun...but why didn't Buckner show up? I would think he would have gotten a HUGE ovation.

He was my favorite player for all my younger years.

    Just wondering.

Buckner said he was going to be with his kid checking out College's today but he really wanted to be here (YA' RIGHT).

Last i heard, they were not sure why Henderson couldn't make it. Clemens really wanted to be here. I saw an interview with his wife and she said she was looking forward to coming back to Boston for it too but he had to pitch tonight. His wife is a BIG fan of Boston and alot of her close friends are still up here from what i've heard!

I've heard interviews with Buckner and he is still haunted by it. He regrets that play being what he is remembered for. I remember him with the Cubbies and i always liked the guy. I might have hated him for awhile in 87' and 88' but i got over it!

I was wondering about Henderson as well....glad you said something.

As far as billy buck....I think it would have really lifted the moneky off his back. It's too bad he couldn't do it.

and no...i don't believe that he couldn't be there...that's a weak excuse to me.

He has openly admitted to purposely missing any Red Sox event. He said he is actually still angry over how badly the people in Boston treated him and his family for that mistake. Kinda sad.

sure is.....hate to see him still avoiding it.

Maybe one day he'll finally "feel" forgiven.

Same thing is still going on with Trey Junkin, the NY Giants holder on FG's for one game in which he tried to fill in and was horrible. Another sad story!

Hendu is a commentator for the M's now. Thats probably why.

I also thought the reactions were a little subdued. I thought Hurst especially would've gotten a louder ovation.

i agree..my sister in law was asking me why celebrate a team that didn't win anything....and then I told her about game 6, and she was even more confused.

i heard boggs being interviewed today and he said bar none...buckner was the best clutch hitter on that team....Almost a career .300 hitter he will be remembered by most for that one play....reminds me of the great tight end jackie smith who missed an easy catch in the super bowl......

He had a huge hit against the angels in the series before!!

too bad he is haunted by it

As a Giants fan, you must remember Junkin?

I am a season ticket holder and very well remember his fiasco against SF, but he needs to get over himself. He didn't cost us the game, the defense lost it and it magnified his mistake. In no way do Giants remember Junkin in even 20% of the way Buckner is remembered.
