Six-Pack for Tuesday
-- Only 6,809 loyalists showed up to watch Anibel Sanchez get his first major league win in a makeup game at the Bronx Sunday night, lowest crowd there since April 7, 1994.
-- John Sterling, radio voice of Bronx Bombers, estimated the crowd at "around 5,000" but was quickly corrected by his annoying sidekick Suzyn Waldman, who said she was told approximately 14,000 fans were in the house. Official crowd? 6,809, so Sterling was pretty close in his estimation. -- Speaking of Waldman, how does she rate being a major league radio announcer? She doesn't do any play-by-play, and she is hardly an expert. I don't know any Bronx fans who thinks she is good.
-- Elias Sports Bureau reports that Baltimore's Daniel Cabrera is wildest pitcher in major leagues, of all hurlers who have thrown average of at least one inning per game; Cabrera hits the strike zone only 56% of the time.
-- Astros' bullpen has pitched 33.2 innings in relief of Roy Oswalt this season, and has given up 44 runs in that time, blowing three wins for their ace.
-- Of all the big league pitchers who made at least ten starts this season, only Carlos Zambrano of the Cubs has thrown 100+ pitches in every start. Schmidt threw 95 in one start, Contreras threw 98 in one start, to fall out of that group.
