I don't know why you have this issue with Guillens managing job last year. What team was handed to him in Spring Training last year??? They were picked by NOBODY to win the WS, and its not like they had a $200 Million payroll either.

exactly. he blends small ball (manufacturing runs, stealing bases, sacraficing) and his great pitching (not micro-managing in the 6th inning) and wins. Instead of always playing for the 3run homer with his 7-8-9 hitters, he actually moves guys over/steals and can manufacture a run. They are one of the few teams in baseball who actually grasp this concept and execute it, and IT works.

last year they led the league in sacrafices, and guess what: they won the WS. by comparison, the A's haven't won a playoff series using this nonsense philosophy about never giving up an out.
