The important thing is that both Russell and now Ortiz got/get what needed/needs to be done and usually at the time when the game was/ is on the line.

Originally posted by savage1I agree. This is before your time, but what about someone like Bill Russell-not a great scorer, but his defense played a HUGE part in Celtics winning all of those championships.

Originally posted by wayne1218Papi also plays 1B in Inter-League road games and does it flawlessly, just like he did in the World Series. It really shouldn't keep him from winning the Trophy. Someone HAS TO DH on every A.L. Team. Don't penalize them for it!
I know this is unrelated, but somehow this conversation reminds me of a college football or basketball team which has an outstanding record; some will say is not that good because "they haven't play anyone good yet."
Well you know what happens-eventually they play someone good and win.
The point is that many times the aforementioned team suffers bigtime in the ratings solely because they hadn't played anyone (until they proved themselves in the example abvove). Again, it is not their fault(maybe it is the scheduling dept) that they hadn't played anyone up to then, and please don't penalize them solely for that reason.

he has so many walk-offs it is almost comical....It is like ESPN is running the same reel.......
He does take the glove in the field and we have been lucky he has not been called on to make more plays....it made me laugh when varitek came all the way out to field a ball that was clearly the 1st basemans......
If that is the only way he gets his bat in the lineup...I do not care if he has to play CF!!!
