So far, the Sparks are scoring only 39 points per first half on 43 percent shooting, including less than 30 percent from beyond the arc.

WNBA betting has three games on tap for Wednesday, and we’ve seen some big swings in terms of totals trends the past few days.

After a high-scoring start to the 2020 campaign, in which WNBA teams combined to average 173.3 points per contest and go 8-3-1 Over/Under in the first dozen games, scoring has declined rapidly. Since July 31, games are seeing an average of 162.8 points and boast a collective 1-7-1 Over/Under record heading into Tuesday.

These are our favorite WNBA free picks and predictions for August 5.

Las Vegas Aces vs Washington Mystics

Two of the WNBA’s biggest surprises meet up when the Aces play the Mystics in the “Wubble” Wednesday.

Washington and Las Vegas both watched their franchise players opt out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns but have remained more than competitive in the first few games of the schedule. The common thread for these squads has been their efficient offensive attacks, with the Mystics and Aces ranked second and third in points per game while each shooting better than 47 percent from the field.

With Monday giving the league a day off, these teams come into Wednesday with fresh legs – especially Washington, which hasn’t seen action since August 1. That added day of prep under Mike Thibault – the best head coach in the Dub – and the Mystics’ ability to hit from outside (something Vegas doesn’t do much of), has me leaning Washington in what should be an awesome game.

PREDICTION: Washington +2.5 (-110)


Indiana Fever vs Los Angeles Sparks

Slow starts have the Sparks at 2-2 SU and 1-3 ATS to begin the 2020 season. Los Angeles has found itself digging its way out of an early hole too often, which leaves little in the tank for crunch time.

So far, L.A. is scoring only 39 points per first half on 43 percent shooting, including firing at less than 30 percent from beyond the arc in those opening 20 minutes. That has head coach Derek Fisher putting an emphasis on getting more from his starters and not having to have his bench bail them out.

Indiana could be the remedy. The Fever give up 46.3 points to opponents in the opening two quarters on the season – second-most in the WNBA - allowing foes to fire at 50 percent from the field in those first halves. The Fever have countered with an average of 45.3 first-half points of their own, so this could be a busy night on the scoreboard during the opening half.

PREDICTION: First half Over 82 (-110)
