      Top Game – Bucks (-7/229.5) at Spurs, 8:40 p.m.

Milwaukee is on pace for a 70-win season and again owns the Eastern Conference’s longest winning streak entering a week, taking a five-game surge that is matched by the Lakers, Jazz and Thunder.

Despite embarking on a four-game road trip that begins in San Antonio, the Bucks have a great chance to get to double-digits since there’s only one back-to-back ahead and they’ll be favored each time out. Milwaukee has won an NBA-best 18 games in succession already this season and survived injuries that has led to absences of their top three players, including MVP frontrunner Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Bucks lead the NBA in margin of victory and now have a clean injury report to work with as they hit the road for games in San Antonio, Golden State, Sacramento and Portland. Milwaukee was 27-10 at this stage of the season last year and ultimately won 60 games, but it has definitely taken a step forward this season in becoming the overwhelming Eastern Conference favorite over the past few weeks.

Milwaukee was a 5-to-6 (-120) choice after opening the season at 5-to-4 (+125) at the Westgate Superbook and deserves that designation. The Bucks championship odds have been trimmed from +600 to +350 and they should be lumped in with the co-favorites, L.A.’s Clippers and Lakers, (+250), due to their easier road. I’ve been writing this for weeks and the gap has been closing, so the time to act on any championship features appears to be now. Barring an injury to Antetokounmpo, the odds won’t be getting any better.

Antetokounmpo was dealing with back trouble in Milwaukee’s last loss, that Christmas 121-109 setback in Philadelphia where he shot poorly and couldn’t get loose. He took a few games off and participated last week in wins over the Bulls, Wolves and Spurs, averaging 29 points and 11.7 rebounds, so he’s looking healthy again.

The “Greek Freak” scored 19 of his 32 points in the third quarter of Saturday night’s 127-118 home win over the same Spurs team they’ll see tonight. Although Milwaukee failed to cover a 12-point spread in garbage time after letting San Antonio close on an 11-2 run, it has still covered in six of nine. Antetokounmpo made a season-high 15 free throws in 18 tries against the Spurs while Brook Lopez and Robin Lopez continued to a tremendous job protecting the paint and held LaMarcus Aldridge to 0-for-7 shooting in pulling away in the second half before the Spurs’ game-closing run.

With Eric Bledsoe back to run the show and dominate game at the point of attack defensively, the Bucks are more formidable than ever. Backup George Hill continues to lead the NBA in 3-point percentage and has been one of the most improved players on the offensive end in the entire league. Khris Milddleton should be an All-Star again, while Donte DiVincenzo, who you probably remember from his run winning a national championship with Villanova, has bounced back from an injury-plagued rookie season and is a blossoming into a terrific glue guy. Shooting specialist Kyle Korver is on board as another weapon the Bucks can plug in alongside a stretch-four like Ersan Ilyasova, surrounding Antetokounmpo with shooters at every turn.

Although Milwaukee squandered a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference finals last May in being eliminated by Leonard and eventual champion Toronto, it did win a pair of playoff series for the first time since 2001. That experience, combined with the awful taste that the Bucks were ultimately left with, has been a driving force in them hitting the ground running in posting the league’s top record entering the first full week of January.

Antetokounmpo’s back problems are a concern, but the fact that they’re taking a cautious approach with him is a fantastic sign, especially since they’ve continued to win games without him. Although the 76ers are formidable and teams like the Celtics and Heat have taken dramatic steps forward, the Bucks look like a great bet to come out of the East.

San Antonio remains eighth in the Western Conference ahead of the Blazers, Suns and Grizzlies but continues to struggle to meet expectations. Gregg Popovich just gave Lonnie Walker IV his first NBA start against the Bucks on Saturday night, taking Bryn Forbes spot. We’ll see whether that tweak continues with Dejounte Murray likely to return after missing the last game due to personal reasons. The Spurs ae 0-2 in 2020 and hoping to avoid a three-game losing streak for the first time since November. Milwaukee is 23-0 against teams that are under .500.

The Bucks will set an NBA record with their 62nd consecutive game scoring at least 100 points when they surpass the century mark in San Antonio against the Spurs’ porous defense, taking sole possession of a mark they now share with the ’16-’17 Houston Rockets.

      Best of the Rest

      Thunder at 76ers (-7/213), 7:10 p.m. ET:
Oklahoma City puts its five-game winning streak on the line against a Philadelphia team that’s back home after suffering through an 0-4 road trip that shed light on some of the dysfunction facing the Sixers. Ben Simmons has called this a must-win and the team looks to mesh better back home, where they come in 16-2 and last embarrassed the Bucks on Dec. 25. The availability of Nerlens Noel to return from an ankle injury suffered last week will play a big role in picking a winner here since his defense on Joel Embiid would be essential. James Ennis (ill) will look to return for Philly.

      Jazz (-3/222) at Pelicans, 8:10 p.m. ET:
J.J. Redick and other New Orleans players were openly talking playoffs last week and have been rejuvenated by their recent run of success that featured a season-best four-game win streak and sees them enter this game winner in five of six after Saturday’s upset in Sacramento. Guard Lonzo Ball has been at his best of late and scored 15 fourth-quarter points to help fuel the win over the Kings, while Derrick Favors’ return to form has made a huge difference inside. This will be his first matchup with former running mate Rudy Gobert, who has done an excellent job protecting the paint as he bids for another Defensive Player of the Year award. Utah’s Mike Conley remains out with a hamstring injury while New Orleans’ top pick, Zion Williamson, has begun practicing but is still likely weeks away from his debut.

      Bulls at Mavericks (-9.5/216), 8:40 p.m. ET:
Chicago was actually favored against Boston over the weekend, so oddsmakers have noticed its improved play of late. The Celtics managed to win on the second night of a back-to-back and the Bulls still don’t look like a playoff team, losing four of five and struggling in the third quarter again. They have seen Zach LaVine and Lauri Markkanen improve upon their consistency, but they’ll be playing on the road for the first time since Dec. 23. Dallas comes off a home loss to Charlotte in OT after squandering a double-digit lead. Kristaps Porzingis remains out with an injured knee, but Tim Hardaway, Jr. may return from a hamstring issue.

What actor played President Bartlet in the old TV series, The West Wing?

          Monday’s quiz
In 2008, New England went 11-5 but missed the playoffs; Tom Brady got hurt in the first game and was out for the year; Matt Cassel played QB for the Patriots that year.

          Sunday’s quiz
New England lost to Baltimore in the 2009 Wild Card round, the last time they played on Wild Card weekend.

          ************************************************** ****

Tuesday’s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but……

          13) Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa declared for the NFL Draft; will be fascinating to see who takes a chance on him and his dislocated hip in the first round. NFL QB’s take a pounding, even in this softer day and age; can he withstand a 17-game season, because the NFL season will become 17 games in a couple years, and thats not counting the playoffs?

Nick Saban has had 29 players drafted in first round since coming to Alabama, but none of them were quarterbacks.

          12) fanatics.com is already making/selling Cincinnati Bengal #9 jerseys with “Burrow” on the back, thats how confident they are that Cincy will draft the LSU quarterback.

          11) Duke freshman Wendell Moore Jr. broke a bone in his right hand doing the Blue Devils’ 95-62 win over Boston College Saturday; he will miss “significant time”. Moore is averaging 7.4 ppg, 3.9 rebounds/game.

          10) Dallas Cowboys hired Mike McCarthy as their new coach; McCarthy went 125-77-2 (.618) in 13 years with the Packers, going 10-8 in playoffs, with one Super Bowl title.

Former 49ers coach Mike Nolan will be the Cowboys’ DC.

          9) Cowboys Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper are all carrying expiring contracts into the offseason; did that play into Jason Garrett being told to take a hike?

          8) LA Rams will have a new defensive coordinator next year; 72-year old Wade Phillips didn’t have his contract renewed by the club. Ram defense had lot of injuries this year; Dallas/Ravens ran thru them, but otherwise they had a pretty good year.

Rams also parted ways with RB coach Skip Peete.

          7) One more note on the Rams; they drafted Jared Goff in the first round of the 2016 draft; they haven’t made another 1st round pick since, and don’t have another 1st round pick until 2022.

          6) Seattle-Philly Wild Card game late Sunday afternoon was the most viewed TV show in the country since LY’s Super Bowl.

          5) Over last five years, #6 seeds are 7-3 ATS on NFL Wild Card weekend

          4) Over last four years, #1 seeds are 6-2 ATS this coming weekend.

          3) Washington Nationals signed 1B/OF Eric Thames a one-year, $4M deal.

          2) I’ll be very curious when the XFL starts next month if it is any better than the AAF was; I’m assuming it’ll be better funded, but will the actual football be as good, or better?

          1) Louisiana 27, Miami OH 17— This is a lower-tier bowl for sure, but it has to be an advantage in recruiting to have national TV all to yourself for two hours, yes? There wasn’t any college basketball on TV until 9:00; not really sure why.

              Wednesday’s List of 13: Mid-week musings…….

              13) Carolina Panthers gave Baylor coach Matt Rhule $62M for seven years, which is a lot of money. Giants apparently declined to match that offer.

              12) Giants then signed Patriots special teams coach Joe Judge, who will be the Giants’ third head coach in five years.

              11) Dallas is hiring John Fassel as their new special teams coach; Fassel did a very good job in that capacity with the Rams, but LA’s special teams slipped this year.

Sean McVay now has to replace his defensive coordinator and special teams coach, which obviously is not ideal.

              10) NBA teams playing a 2nd consecutive night are 27-32-3 ATS on the 2nd night of a back/back, if they won/covered the first night.

Teams that lost the first night are 45-37-3 ATS the second night.

              9) Quote of the Day, part 2, from Kansas coach Bill Self, talking about speculation that he will be the San Antonio Spurs’ coach fairly soon:

“I haven’t talked to R.C. [Buford] ever about it, and he was in my wedding and I was in his. I know him pretty well and we’ve never once discussed it (job).”

RC Buford is the Spurs’ GM.

              8) Lakers’ star Anthony Davis turned down a 4-year, $146M contract extension; if you’re scoring at home, that would’ve been $36.5M a year. Davis will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Of course, the same day he turns down $146M, Davis leaves the game early with a bruised lower back; Lakers don’t consider the injury to be overly serious.

              7) College basketball upsets:
              — Boston College (+9) 60, Virginia 53
              — Nebraska (+7.5) 76, Iowa 70
              — Providence (+7.5) 81, Marquette 80
              — Air Force (+7) 79, Utah State 60
              — Tennessee (+5.5) 69, Missouri 58
              — Virginia Tech (+5) 67, Syracuse 63
              — East Carolina (+4) 62, South Florida 59

              6) Rocky Long is the football coach at San Diego State, but apparently is interviewing this week to be he defensive coordinator at Syracuse— why????
              a) Why go from being head coach to a coordinator?
              b) Why would anyone move from San Diego to Syracuse? Ever?

San Diego State is one of 13 colleges in country to go bowling the last 10 years in a row.

              5) Ohio U’s Frank Solich is 75 years old, the oldest I-A coach in America; Long is the 2nd-oldest- he turns 70 in a few weeks. Being a coordinator must be less stressful.

              4) Texas Longhorns’ QB Sam Ehlingher will be back in Austin for his senior season.

              3) XFL’s unusual rules:
              — Double-forward pass. If a team completes a forward pass behind the line of scrimmage, that player has the ability to attempt another forward pass as long as the ball has at no time crossed the line of scrimmage.

              — Three options after scoring a touchdown:
              a) a 1-point play from the 2-yard line,
              b) a 2-point play from the 3-yard line or
              c) a 3-point play from the 10-yard line.
There is no option to kick an extra point.

              — Overtime: Each team will get five single-play possessions from the 5-yard line, kind of like an NHL shootout. If the game is still tied at that point, the rotating possessions will continue until there is a winner. The XFL hopes that overtimes will be rare, in part because of the multiple options for points after touchdowns.

              — A requirement for only one foot to be in bounds for possession, like in college.

If you plan on betting totals in XFL games, keep in mind that a running game clock won’t stop after incomplete passes or when players go out of bounds, except inside of two minutes in each half. There figure to be less plays in an XFL game than in an NFL game, but we’ll monitor all that once the games begin.

              2) Rutgers 72, Penn State 61— Scarlet Knights are 12-3 in basketball for first time in 44 years, when a group of players who were mostly recruited by Dick Vitale made the Final Four. Vitale was the head coach at Detroit by then; he was an outstanding coach back in the day.

              1) Prayers up for the people in Puerto Rico, where they had multiple earthquakes Monday night/Tuesday morning. Been a rough couple of years for those people.

              • Wednesday's Tip Sheet
                Kevin Rogers

Game of the Night – Nuggets at Mavericks – 7:35 PM EST

Six teams in the Western Conference own a winning percentage of .635 or higher as two of those squads hook up at American Airlines Center. Denver (25-11 SU, 14-18-4 ATS) closes out a five-game road swing that has seen plenty of ups and downs as the Nuggets have split the first four contests. Things began in Houston as the Nuggets lost by 26 points to the Rockets, but Denver knocked off Indiana two nights later.

Mike Malone’s team was stunned by Washington as a 13-point favorite, 128-113 last Saturday before rebounding with a 123-115 victory at Atlanta to barely cover as seven-point chalk. Not only did the Nuggets avenge an earlier home loss to the Hawks, but center Nikola Jokic posted a career-high 47 points, as Denver has hit the OVER in six consecutive games. Denver has yielded at least 115 points in five straight contests, while topping the 119-point mark in each of the past four wins.

The Mavericks (23-13 SU, 19-16-1 ATS) continue a six-game homestand which only gets more difficult after facing the Nets, Hornets, and Bulls. Dallas won two of those three contests with the lone loss coming to Charlotte in overtime last Saturday as 11 ½-point favorites, but the Mavs rebounded by beating the Bulls on Monday, 118-110. After Denver visits “Big D” on Wednesday, the Mavericks host the Lakers on Friday, followed by the 76ers invading the AAC on Saturday.

Dallas held off Denver in the first matchup at Pepsi Center on October 29 as 5 ½-point underdogs, 109-106. In a rare occurrence, the Mavericks had nine players score in double-figures, led by Tim Hardaway, Jr. and Maxi Kleber with 14 points apiece. Mavs’ star Luka Doncic was limited to 12 points on 3-of-12 shooting from the floor, but Dallas outscored Denver, 26-18 in the fourth quarter to avenge a three-game sweep by the Nuggets last season.

Heat at Pacers – 7:05 PM EST

Many people wouldn’t have anticipated that Miami (26-10 SU, 21-13-2 ATS) would own the best home record in the league at 17-1. The lone defeat came to the Lakers in December, while beating the likes of the Jazz, 76ers, Raptors, and Pacers since December 23 to maintain a firm hold of first place in the Southeast division. Now, Miami has to prove it can win consistently away from American Airlines Arena as the Heat own a 9-9 road mark with contests at Brooklyn and New York this week.

The Pacers (23-14 SU, 20-16-1 ATS) have held their own at Bankers Life Fieldhouse by winning 15 of 19 home contests. However, Indiana has posted a 2-4 SU/ATS record since Christmas, although one of those victories came on Monday night in a 115-104 triumph at Charlotte as six-point favorites. The Pacers are riding a 6-1 OVER run, while topping the 111-point mark six times during this stretch, including four straight occurrences at home.

Indiana swept the three-game season series from Miami last season, but the Heat edged the Pacers in a 113-112 thriller in south Florida on December 27. The Pacers cashed as five-point underdogs, marking their fifth consecutive cover against the Heat since March 2018, but Goran Dragic put the Heat in front for good with a short jumper in the final seconds.

Spurs at Celtics – 7:05 PM EST

It’s been a long time since San Antonio (15-20 SU, 13-21-1 ATS) finished with a losing record. In fact, the Spurs last missed the playoffs and owned a below .500 mark in 1997, but Gregg Popovich’s team has work to do to jump back into a positive area. The Spurs are fresh off probably their most impressive victory of the season by routing the Eastern Conference-leading Bucks, 126-104 as eight-point home underdogs on Monday. San Antonio knocked down 19 three-pointers, while DeMar DeRozan paced the Spurs with 25 points on 11-of-15 shooting.

The Celtics (25-9 SU, 20-12-2 ATS) remain atop the Atlantic division in spite of a surprising 99-94 setback to the Wizards on Monday as nine-point favorites. Boston connected on only 8-of-37 three-point attempts (22%), while guard Kemba Walker has yet to suit up in 2020 by missing the last three games due to illness. Walker hopes to play on Wednesday as the Celtics are 2-1 in this stretch without the former UConn star, while Boston is 4-0 this season off a loss in which it was held below 100 points.

The Spurs swept the Celtics last season, but Boston routed San Antonio at AT&T Center in early November, 135-115 as two-point road underdogs. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 30 points as Boston snapped a seven-game skid at San Antonio dating back to 2012. The Spurs embark on a four-game road trip as they have covered four in a row away from the Alamo, although three of those came in a loss in the underdog role.

Bucks at Warriors – 10:05 PM EST

Last season, this looked to be the NBA Finals matchup as Milwaukee (32-6 SU, 21-17 ATS) was two wins away from knocking out Toronto in the Eastern Conference Finals. However, the Bucks’ final victory of the season came in Game 2 as they lost the next four to the Raptors, who eventually captured their first title in franchise history.

Over six months later, Milwaukee and Golden State is the battle of the haves and have nots. The Bucks own the top record in the league, while the Warriors (9-29 SU, 17-21 ATS) are playing out the string after a multitude of injuries and having basically no shot in the same division as the Lakers and Clippers.

The Bucks saw their five-game winning streak come to an end in Monday’s 22-point setback at San Antonio, marking the third consecutive contest that Milwaukee suffered an ATS loss. Mike Budenholzer’s team has compiled a solid 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS mark off a loss this season, while the Bucks have won 25 of their last 26 regular season contests off a defeat.

Golden State is riding a five-game skid since winning a season-high four consecutive games in late December. The Warriors have failed to cover in the last three trips to the court, but they have cashed in six of the past nine opportunities as a home underdogs. Although the recent series history doesn’t mean much due to Golden State’s drastically different roster, Milwaukee has won each of its previous two meetings in the Bay Area and is a road favorite against the Warriors for the first time since 2012.

Thursday’s Den: Thoughts on college basketball

                            13) Big X— Four teams in top 25; is Baylor the best team in the country? If the top 68 teams in the country made the NCAA tournament, Kansas State would be the only Big X team left out.

                            12) ACC— 15 teams in a league is too many; North Carolina is down this year, looks like Duke, Florida State, Louisville are by far the three best teams. Curious to see if NC State can play their way into an at-large bid.

                            11) Big East— Butler, Seton Hall, Villanova are three best teams; Providence sleep-walked thru a 7-6 pre-conference slate, but started conference play 3-0. Friars are experience team #19, can they keep winning and get an at-large bid?

                            10) Big 14— Michigan State is gaining momentum; Ohio State lost four of last six games after a 9-0 start. Nebraska/Northwestern are by far the two worst teams; large cluster of teams in the middle of the pack here- Juwan Howard’s Michigan team is 10-4, but 0-3 in true road games.

                            9) SEC— Auburn made the Final Four LY, is 14-0 TY. Florida won its first NCAA tourney game the last three years; they’re 10-4 now and headed towards playing in March again. Kentucky is getting better with each game; Eric Musselman has Arkansas at 12-2 in his first year there.

                            8) Pac-12— Much-improved league this year, with five top 50 teams; Colorado/Washington should both make NCAA’s. Arizona is young, talented, Oregon always gets better as the season goes on. Stanford is a surprise team, UCLA is disappointing.

                            7) Right now, the NCAA Tournament figures to be missing some familiar faces; North Carolina, Cincinnati, Syracuse, UCLA and Iowa State are likely NIT teams, at best.

                            6) American— Memphis is a rising power nationally; Cincy/Temple/UCF are a little down, but SMU, Wichita, Houston are all good. Ron Hunter will make Tulane relevant; UConn is still a year away. Just like last year, AAC has three teams in top 50.

                            5) Atlantic 14— Dayton is going to be a fashionable Final Four sleeper on Selection Sunday; VCU will be an interesting team in March. Richmond has rebounded this year; Duquesne is getting better, but Davidson/St Joe’s are down, only half of the league is in the top 100.

                            4) WCC is still Gonzaga-Saint Mary’s-BYU, but Santa Clara/Pacific are on the rise, and the bottom half of the league doesn’t have any doormats. Gonzaga’s program now is what UNLV had in the Tark the Shark era 30 years ago; big fish in a small pond that attracts prominent transfers.

                            3) Mountain West— San Diego State is 16-0; Aztecs missed NCAAs three of last four years. Utah State lost last three games after a 13-2 start; unclear who the 2nd-best team is. Steve Alford has Nevada at 10-6 with a totally-revamped roster. New Mexico is playing well; UNLV is a year away. Wyoming and San Jose State are terrible.

                            2) Missouri Valley— Too bad Wichita State/Creighton jumped to bigger ponds- that really hurt this league. Northern Iowa is the only top 100 team right now, Evansville upset Kentucky, then lost its coach to off-court issues. Missouri State has been little disappointing. Loyola/Drake are in line behind UNI at the top of the standings.

                            1) Conference USA— Six teams are 2-0 in the conference; six more are 0-2, with North Texas, Marshall 1-1. Louisiana Tech appears to be the best team; Western Kentucky won its first two conference games, but they lost big man Bassey with a leg injury.

                                Tony Mejia

Game of the Night – Rockets (-2.5) at Thunder, 9:40 p.m.

We’re going to get another rare occurrence of fans welcoming back an opposing player with open arms.

While Toronto fans were treated to Kawhi Leonard for just a season and he went 1-for-1 in winning them a championship, Oklahoma City raised Russell Westbrook. They stood by him and his mistakes and he stood by them, emerging as the last man standing after James Harden and Serge Ibaka were traded and Kevin Durant left for Golden State.

Westbrook should get a rousing ovation in his return to Chesapeake Energy Arena. He was the one who stayed and then recruited Paul George to join him and hang around. He wanted to build in a small market and averaged a triple-double there for three consecutive seasons before being dealt over the summer.

GM Sam Presti issued a statement that ended with the line that “it’s going to be a unique moment… a chance for people to recognize someone that will always figure prominently in the history of our city.”

Although Westbrook has had a contentious relationship with fans in opposing arenas, Thursday’s matchup should be all love. Oklahoma City jerseys with the number “0” will be present as far as the eye can see and his imprint on the game should surpass even Harden’s, who had a 41-point triple-double in Wednesday’s 122-115 win in Atlanta.

Westbrook, who has sat on the second-half of every back-to-back this season, opted to sit out the Hawks game instead, leaving him free to play in what will be the Rockets’ lone scheduled stop in OKC this season.

The Thunder, on paper, are also a far tougher opponent than Atlanta, coming in with wins in six of their last seven. Oklahoma City is on a 15-5 run since Nov. 29 and would open as the No. 7 seed if the Western Conference playoffs opened today. Thanks to the Nuggets’ win in Dallas last night, the Rockets enter Thursday in third, but this could certainly be a playoff matchup down the road. While it would be fascinating to see what a drama-filled postseason series would do to the love affair between Westbrook and the Thunder fans, for one evening, we should see fans cheering both.

Harden shot just 9-for-34, slowing down considerably after a 22-point first quarter in which the Rockets scored 45 on the Hawks and kept Atlanta playing from behind. He was the reason the Hawks nearly came back, missing 16 of his 18 second-half shots. Mike D’Antoni said a few guys ran out of gas, which makes sense since Eric Gordon made his largest contributions since returning from arthroscopic knee surgery, scoring 17 points.

P.J. Tucker came up with 17 rebounds and Clint Capela finished with 22 points and 22 rebounds but they joined Harden, Danuel House, Ben McLemore and Gordon in playing 30 or more minutes against the Hawks. The Rockets are 2-2 SU/ATS on the second night of a back-to-back, dropping the last two against Detroit at home on Dec. 14 and most recently at New Orleans on Dec. 29. Harden has only played in three of the games but is averaging 44 points on 41 percent shooting, so he’ll likely rely on the 3-ball more with Steven Adams clogging up the paint.

Westbrook faced his former teammates in the season’s third game and finished with 21 points, 12 boards and nine assists in a 116-112 win, but returning to Chesapeake Energy makes this a completely different game for him. He’s shot poorly in Houston, connecting on 21 percent from 3-point range in November, 22.8 percent in December and entering this game on a 1-for-14 run from beyond the arc.

There’s no way Westbrook won’t be more aggressive here and Harden is likely to defer more, so a lower-scoring game may be in the cards. Harden scored 40 points and dished out seven assists in the first meeting with the Thunder and has averaged 40 points per game on the road.

Houston has won eight of its last 10 games but only covered in six of them after falling just short against the Hawks on Wednesday. Most of their totals have covered in the 225-235 range, but last night’s game closed at 237 and ended up pushing. Oklahoma City’s largest total of the season closed 229 against the Pelicans on Nov. 29 and went ‘under.’ The low side has prevailed in six of eight involving the Thunder.

Chris Paul, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and sixth man Dennis Schröder are averaging nearly combined 60 points over the Thunder’s last 18 games. They combined for 59 in the first meeting with the Rockets, shooting a combined 22-for-48.

OKC small forward Danilo Gallinari is dealing with a calf contusion and backup center Nerlens Noel is bothered by a nasty ankle sprain. Both are listed as questionable.

                                Celtics at 76ers (-2.5/216.5), 7:10 p.m. ET:
Only one of the top two teams in the Atlantic Division will be at full strength for this game.Joel Embiid's gruiesome finger injury suffered the other night will keep him out, thrusting Al Horford into a larger role against his former team. For Boston, Kemba Walker is over his illness, Marcus Smart has returned from his eye infection and Jaylen Brown is playing through a shoulder issue, so the Celtics have everyone on board, a rarity they've only been able to enjoy barely a quarter of the season. Gordon Hayward has even looked more like his usual self since coming back. Sixers rookie elite wing defender Matisse Thybulle (knee) is hoping to be back after missing multiple games. Smart and Horford were missing for Philadelphia’s 115-109 win on Dec. 12 that ended Boston’s unbeaten run at TD Garden this season. The 76ers blew out the Celtics 107-93 on Oct. 23 and have no won three straight against a team it had lost 21 of 24 against since the beginning of the ’14-’15 season. Boston hasn’t lost four straight in this series vs. Philly since ’01-’02

                                Cavaliers at Pistons (-7/220), 7:10 p.m. ET:
Detroit will look for another win over the Cavs after posting a 115-113 comeback win on Tuesday. Derrick Rose scored the winning basket and finished with 24 points and seven assists. Andre Drummond finished with 23 points and 20 rebounds as Detroit closed out a six-game road trip. The Pistons are home for the first time since Dec. 26. The Cavs are opening a six-game road trip and won't have rookie guard Kevin Porter, Jr. available.

                                Blazers (-3) at Timberwolves, 8:10 p.m. ET:
Karl-Anthony Towns is expected to miss his 12th straight contest, but the Wolves have been better at navigating his absence of late, winning four of seven since Dec. 26. Portland comes off an upset in Toronto, getting a season-high 28 points from Carmelo Anthony. The Blazers are hoping to finish up a road trip by at 3-2 with a victory here, which would be their seventh in eight tries over the Wolves. Andrew Wiggins scored 15 points in Minnesota's 119-112 loss to the Grizzlies on Tuesday. C.J. McCollum has been dealing with an upper respiratory infection but is expected to play.
