12) An equipment container that contained some of the Kansas City Chiefs’ shoulder pads, helmets and footballs was not unloaded Saturday and instead “accidentally” found its way to Newark, NJ- the container held the bags of roughly 35 Chiefs players. The container was rushed back to Foxboro; it arrived at the ballpark roughly an hour before gametime Sujday.

If the Chiefs didn’t have the equipment by the time the game started they would have to forfeit the game, which is hard to believe, seeing how it was the featured 4:25 game on CBS.

In a semi-related subject, a Patriots videographer was in Cleveland Sunday, in the press box, filming the Bengals sideline. Guess who New England plays this week?

11) Stephen Strasburg gets 7 years, $245M to stay in Washington; if you’re the agent working on a 3% fee, that $7.35M for him. Not a bad day.

10) ESPN college basketball analyst Jimmy Dykes is different than most analysts; Dykes was a coach and he calls players out like a coach as he watches the game.

Saturday afternoon, a kid on Arizona shied away from diving for a loose ball that led to a Baylor basket; 99% of analysts don’t bother to mention it, but Dykes pointed out that Baylor got an easy layup because their kid out-hustled the Arizona guy for the loose ball. Good analysis.

9) Bad beat of the weekend; Over/under in Pacer-Knick game Saturday night was 209; game was 104-100 with 5:05 left, but wound up 104-103. How do two teams combine for only three points in 5:05 at the end of a close game?

8) Knicks’ interim coach Mike Miller is a different guy than the Mike Miller who played in the NBA; that Mike Miller is one of Penny Hardaway’s assistants at Memphis.

— Arkansas hired Georgia’s offensive line coach Sam Pittman as head coach.
— Missouri hired Eli Drinkwitz away from Appalachian State to be its coach.

The Jimmy V Classic is one of the more notable events in the college basketball holiday tournament schedule.

The two betting matchups on Tuesday night’s Jimmy V schedule at Madison Square Garden start with Texas Tech squaring off against the No. 1 Louisville Cardinals. Later that night from New York City, Indiana will tangle with the Huskies of Connecticut.

Betting Matchup

Wednesday’s 65-60 overtime loss to DePaul as 1 ½-point road favorites was the Red Raiders’ third loss in a row both straight-up and against the spread. This followed a 5-0 SU start while going 4-1 ATS. The total has stayed UNDER in three of the last five games. Freshman guard Jahmi’us Ramsey has missed his last two games and remains questionable after injuring his hamstring in a loss to Iowa on Nov. 28. He is the team’s leading scorer this season with 17.3 points per game. Texas Tech is averaging 79.0 PPG and allowing an average of 65.1 points on defense.

The Cardinals held onto the top spot in the national polls with wins over Michigan and Pittsburgh both SU and ATS as favorites this past week. They are now a perfect 9-0 SU on the year. They have also covered in their last three games to improve to 5-4 ATS. The total stayed UNDER 129 ½ points in Friday’s 64-46 victory against Pitt and it has stayed UNDER in four of Louisville’s last five contests. Junior forward Jordan Nwora continues to lead the way in scoring with 21.6 PPG. He posted 22 points with 12 rebounds in his team’s big win over Michigan before scoring 19 points against Pitt.

The Hoosiers slipped to 6-3 ATS and the total has gone OVER in seven of their first nine games. Indiana is four deep in players averaging at lead 13 PPG. Senior guard Devonte Green leads the way with 14.8 points while shooting 51.8 percent from the field. He was held to 10 points while shooting just 37.5 percent in Saturday’s 20-point loss.

The AAC’s Huskies are 6-2 SU with a profitable 7-1 record ATS after beating Iona 80-62 last Wednesday as 13-point home favorites. They have covered in their last six games. The total stayed UNDER 145 ½ points in that win and it has stayed UNDER in five of Connecticut’s last six games. Josh Carlton scored 19 points with 12 rebounds to lead the way against Iona. Senior guard Christian Vital had 16 points in that game and he is the Huskies’ leading scorer on the year with 14.8 PPG while averaging 8.3 rebounds a game.

Louisville became the fourth No. 1 team to lose this season, falling to Texas Tech 70-57 Tuesday night as Davide Moretti scored 18 points and hit successive 3-pointers at Madison Square Garden.

The Cardinals joined Michigan State, Kentucky and Duke as top-ranked squads to lose, three of them to unranked teams.

Louisville (9-1) easily played its worst game of the season, shooting an abysmal 34 % from the floor and leading scorer Jordan Nwora had only 14 points. Coach Chris Mack let loose his frustration in the Jimmy V Classic game in the final 90 seconds and was whistled for a technical.

Texas Tech (6-3) played without leading scorer Jahmi'us Ramsey (17.3 points) for the third straight game because of a hamstring injury, and ended a three-game losing streak. The Red Raiders lost four of their top five scorers off the team that took Virginia to overtime before losing in the NCAA championship game last season.

NO. 2 KANSAS 95, WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE 68

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Devon Dotson had 22 points and nine assists while Udoka Azubuike added 15 points and 17 rebounds for Kansas.

Ochai Agbaji also had 22 points for the Jayhawks (8-1), who built a 40-12 lead in the first half and cruised the rest of the way to their 26th consecutive home win. It also gave them 300 for the decade, joining Gonzaga (304) as the only Division I schools to have reached the milestone before the calendar flips to January.

Darius Roy had 25 points to lead the Panthers (5-5), who actually outscored the Jayhawks most of the second half. Leading scorer Te'Jon Lucas was held to 11 points on 1-of-6 shooting from beyond the arc.

PENN STATE 76, NO. 4 MARYLAND 69

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Penn State became the fifth unranked team to beat a top-5 program in this upset-filled season, getting 15 points and 11 rebounds from Mike Watkins to beat Maryland.

Lamar Stevens added 15 points and 10 rebounds, Myreon Jones scored 14, Izaiah Brockington scored 14 and Myles Dread had 12 for the Nittany Lions (8-2, 1-1 Big Ten), who led for all but 1:54.

Jalen Smith had 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Terrapins (10-1, 1-1), who were trying for their first 11-0 start since 1996.

WACO, Texas (AP) - Mark Vital blocked Kamar Baldwin's potential go-ahead shot with 1.5 seconds left and Baylor handed Butler its first loss.

It was the second win in a row, and third this season, for Baylor (8-1) over a Top 25 team.

Butler (9-1) was the third team during the day to lose for the first time, after No. 1 Louisville and No. 4 Maryland fell. That left five undefeated Division I teams.

Baylor coach Scott Drew is a 1993 Butler graduate and faced his alma mater as a head coach for the first time.

NORTHERN IOWA 79, NO. 24 COLORADO 76

BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Spencer Haldeman stole a pass and raced down the floor for a tiebreaking layup with 49 seconds remaining to send Northern Iowa over Colorado.

Northern Iowa (9-1) defeated a ranked team for the first time since topping No. 25 Wichita State 53-50 on Feb. 13, 2016. The Panthers had lost their previous seven encounters against ranked opponents.

AJ Green and Trae Berhow each had 20 points for Northern Iowa. Lucas Siewert scored a career-high 21 points for Colorado (7-2).

13) I get it that all retired baseball players speak glowingly of the late Marvin Miller, who was the head of the players’ union; he made them all very rich. If Miller made me rich, I’d want him to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, too.

But as an Oakland A’s fan, I had no great fondness for Miller, who helped institute a system that made the A’s a 2nd-rate franchise, financially. Stephen Strasburg making $35M a year is a bit much; not really sure Miller deserves to be in the Hall of Fame- did he make the game better? Did star players being multi-millionaires improve the game?

I’d rather see Dr Frank Jobe get in the Hall of Fame; surgeons who perform Tommy John surgery have done a hell of a lot more to help baseball than a guy who helped make all the players millionaires.

12) Speaking of Marvin MIller, Bronx Bombers signed Gerrit Cole to a 9-year, $324M contract late Tuesday night. Cole is 29 years old, so this might be his last contract.

Last three years, Cole started 33-32-33 regular season games; if he does that next season, it works out to $1,090,909.09 per start.

2) Texas Tech 70, Louisville 57— Cardinals are already the 4th #1 team in country to lose this season and it is only December 11. There aren’t any great teams this year.

1) ESPN drained every last drop out of the Eli Manning story Monday night; he played really well in the first half but the Giants were shut out in the 2nd half as Manning made what will probably be his last-ever appearance on MNF.

Now America will have to wait a couple years for the next Manning; Eli’s nephew Arch is a 9th-grader at Newman HS in New Orleans, where he already is the starting QB.

The Big Ten gets a jump on its conference schedule this week with a number of big matchups on the board.

The two head-to-head conference showdowns highlighting Wednesday night’s college basketball slate starts with the Wisconsin Badgers on the road against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The second Big Ten battle of note pits the Michigan Wolverines against the Fighting Illini of Illinois

Betting Matchup
The Badgers started conference play on a strong note with an impressive 84-64 victory against Indiana on Saturday as slight 1 ½-point home underdogs. They improved to 5-4 SU with 3-6 record ATS. The total went OVER 127 points against the Hoosiers after staying UNDER in Wisconsin’s previous three outings. Kobe King scored a career-best 24 points while shooting 54 percent from the field to pace the win against Indiana. Junior forward Nate Reuvers leads the Badgers in scoring with 15.4 points per game. He scored 20 points in Saturday’s contest.

Rutgers opened its Big Ten schedule on Sunday with a 77-65 road loss to Michigan State but it covered as a 14-point underdog. It has now covered in three of its last four games to improve to 4-4-1 ATS while winning six of the nine games SU. The total went OVER 141 ½-points in the loss to the Spartans. It has gone OVER in the Scarlet Knights’ last four games. Senior forward Akwasi Yeboah scored a team-high 17 points in Sunday’s loss. Sophomore guard Ron Harper Jr. is the teams leading scorer this season with 12.8 PPG. He put up nine points in that game.

The Wolverines went on to lose to No. 1 Louisville 58-43 as six-point road underdogs on Dec. 3 ahead of Friday’s 103-91 victory over Iowa as seven-point home favorites in their Big Ten opener. Franz Wagner led the way against Iowa with 18 points. All five Michigan starters ended that game in double figures with Brandon Johns Jr. scoring 12 points off the bench. The Wolverines are averaging 80.3 PPG.

Illinois blew a 15-point lead in Saturday’s 59-58 loss to No. 3 Maryland in its conference opener. The Fighting Illini are 6-3 SU with an even 4-4 record ATS. They closed as 10-point road underdogs against the Terrapins with the total staying UNDER 142 points. Illinois is ranked 10th in the nation when it comes to scoring with 83.9 PPG. Five different players are averaging as least 10 points a game led by freshman center Kofi Cockburn (15.4 points). He also leads the team in rebounds with 10.7 a game.
