    Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

Three pitchers in last 30 years with most IP thru age 30:
    1) CC Sabathia, 2,441
    2) Felix Hernandez 2,415
    3) Clayton Kershaw 2,248

    Current MAAC basketball standings:
    11-6: Iona
    10-6: Canisius, Quinnipiac, Rider, Siena
    9-9: Monmouth

    **********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend…….

    13) Golfer Dustin Johnson won the WGC-Mexico Championship Sunday, the 20th PGA Tour victory of his career. Read something surprising about Johnson this weekend; he is apparently “a blackjack savant” who likes to play five hands at a time, and instantly knows the odds of each hand as they’re dealt, which makes him like Alan in The Hangover movies. Who knew?

    12) How come none of the AAF teams have white jerseys? All eight teams wear the same jerseys every week. Not sure thats a great idea.

    11) Michigan State 77, Michigan 70— Spartans’ win in Ann Arbor without two injured starters? Three MSU starters played 37:00+; quite an effort.

    10) Cincinnati 64, UConn 60— Bearcats led 50-35 with 9:05 left, gave up a 16-0 run, then pulled the game out late, small consolation if had Cincy, -6.

    9) Xavier 66, Villanova 54— Wildcats lost four straight road games for first time since 2012; they looked like a tired team in this game.

    8) Rutgers 68, Minnesota 64— Horrendous loss for the sliding Gophers, who’ve lost six of their last seven games. Their #244 non-conference schedule ain’t going to help on Selection Sunday.

    7) UNC-Greensboro 60, East Tennessee State 59— These teams are likely to meet again in SoCon semi-finals. This is an underrated league with four quality teams this season.

    6) Siena 67, Marist 55— First-year coach Jamion Christian has the Saints at 15-14, 10-6 in a weak MAAC- they’ve won six of their last eight games, with experience team #247 that is playing 2nd-slowest tempo in country. Solid coaching job, cleaning up the mess of a program that was 8-24 last year, 4-14 in conference.

    5) UCF 95, SMU 48— Golden Knights’ 7-6 center Tacko Fall is fluent in four languages and is learning a fifth one. He had 23 points, 20 rebounds in this game.

    4) Tucker Barnhart batted leadoff for the Reds the other day; don’t see lot of catchers batting leadoff, even if it is in spring training.

    3) AAF trivia: Salt Lake City Stallions became first team in league history to win SU as an underdog when they upset the Arizona Hotshots Saturday.

    2) Houston Astros have an odd spring training schedule; they play the Mets the next three Mondays, the Marlins the next three Thursdays and St Louis the next three Fridays.

    1) Stat Comp of the Day:
Someone posted this on Twitter Saturday. Player A is Stephen Strasburg’s career stats. Any guesses on which Hall of Famer is Player B?

    Player A: 1,229.2 IP, 94-52 W-L record, 2.91 FIP, 129 ERA+

    Player B: 1,221.1 IP, 94-46 W-L record, 2.81 FIP, 122 ERA+

Player B is George Herman (Babe) Ruth, who I’m told was a pretty good hitter, too.

      Big Monday Tip Sheet
      David Schwab

Big Monday on ESPN gets things started with an ACC clash between Notre Dame and the No. 16 Florida Seminoles in Tallahassee. In the biggest matchup on the board, the No. 23 Kansas State Wildcats will go for the season sweep against the rival No. 12 Kansas Jayhawks at Allen Fieldhouse.

As a bonus betting preview in the Big 12, Oklahoma will be on the road against No. 19 Iowa State as a featured matchup on ESPN2.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish at No. 16 Florida State Seminoles (ESPN , 7 p.m. ET)

      Opening Odds:
      Florida State -12 ½, Total 138 ½

      Betting Matchup

Notre Dame’s current straight-up losing streak reached three games with Saturday’s 67-59 loss to Virginia Tech as a four-point underdog at home. The Fighting Irish are now 2-9 SU in their last 11 games with a 4-7 record against the spread. The total stayed UNDER 133 points in Saturday’s loss and it has stayed UNDER in nine of their last 12 contests. Notre Dame is averaging 70.3 points per game, but that number has dropped to 59.4 points over its last five outings.

Saturday’s 77-59 loss to North Carolina as a seven-point road underdog snapped Florida State’s SU eight-game winning streak and it was the first time it failed to cover in its last six games. The total stayed UNDER the 160 ½-point closing line in that loss after going OVER or ending as a PUSH in seven of the Seminoles’ last nine games. They are now 9-5 SU in ACC play as part of an overall record of 21-6. Florida State is averaging 76.5 PPG against a points-allowed average of 67.9.

      Betting Trends

-- The Fighting Irish have gone 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games and the total has stayed UNDER in four of their last five games played on the road.

-- The Seminoles are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a SU losing record. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in nine of their last 11 games at home.

-- Notre Dame as covered the closing number in the last four meetings and the total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in all four of those games.

No. 23 Kansas State Wildcats at No. 12 Kansas Jayhawks (ESPN, 9 p.m. ET)

      Opening Odds:
      Kansas -5, Total 133

      Betting Matchup

Kansas State has won six of its last seven games both SU and ATS including a 74-67 victory against Kansas on Feb. 5 as a three-point home favorite. With Saturday’s 85-46 romp against Oklahoma State as 9 ½-point favorites at home on a closing line of 123 points, the total has gone OVER in six of the Wildcats’ last seven outings. They are 11-3 SU in Big 12 play with a two game lead over the Jayhawks at the top of the standings. Senior guard Barry Brown Jr. leads the team in scoring with 15.7 PPG and Kansas State is ranked fourth in the nation in points allowed (59.3).

The Jayhawks fell to 9-5 SU in conference play with Saturday’s lopsided 91-62 road loss to Texas Tech as 4 ½-point underdogs. The total went OVER 134 points in that loss and it has gone OVER in five of their last six games. Kansas is 20-7 SU overall with a losing 12-15 record ATS. It is 7-8 ATS on its home court this season. Junior forward Dedric Lawson is putting up a team-high 19.0 PPG, but he has failed to reach that scoring average in four of his last five starts.

      Betting Trends

-- The Wildcats are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games following a SU win with the total staying UNDER in six of their last eight Monday games.

-- The Jayhawks have failed to cover in six of their last eight games against a team with a SU winning record. The total has gone OVER or ended as a PUSH in 21 of their last 28 home games.

-- The home team has posted a 18-7-2 record ATS over the last 27 meetings and the total has gone OVER in three of the last four meetings at Kansas.

Oklahoma Sooners at No. 19 Iowa State Cyclones (ESPN2, 8 p.m. ET)

      Opening Odds:
      Iowa State -9 ½, Total 143 ½

      Betting Matchup

The Sooners are coming off back-to-back SU victories against TCU as road underdogs and Texas as favorites at home. They failed to cover the four points in Saturday’s tight 69-67 win against the Longhorns with the total going OVER 130 ½ points. Oklahoma is 5-9 SU in conference play with a spotty 2-4-1 record ATS in its last seven games. It is 6-1-3 ATS on the road this season. Christian James posted 19 points in Saturday’s win and the senior guard continues to lead the Sooners in scoring with 15.5 PPG.

Iowa State’s national ranking could be in jeopardy with losses to Baylor at home and TCU on the road closing as a favorite in each game. The Cyclones are 1-3 both SU and ATS in their last four games coming off Saturday’s 75-72 loss to TCU as slight 1 ½-point favorite. The total stayed UNDER 151 points in that game after going OVER in their previous four outings. Iowa State has been able to average 78.3 PPG this season with senior guard Marial Shayok leading the way with 18.5 PPG. He was held to just four points his last time out while going 2-for-5 from the floor.

      Betting Trends

-- The Sooners have gone 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games coming off a SU win with the total staying UNDER in five of their last seven road games.

-- The Cyclones are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games following a SU loss and the total has stayed UNDER in seven of their last 10 games coming off a loss SU.

-- Iowa State won the first meeting 75-74, but Oklahoma covered as a three-point home underdog. The Cyclones still have a 8-2 edge ATS over the last 10 meetings with the total staying UNDER in five of their last six home games against Oklahoma.

          Top 25 Betting Recap
          Joe Williams

Each week until March Madness we'll take a look at how the Top 25 fared from college basketball, but straight up and against the number, while also taking a look at their upcoming schedule.

It's going to be a topsy-turvy week in the Top 25. We had Shoe-gate in Durham, with Zion Williamson's Nike blowing out and the likely first-round pick in the NBA going down with an injury. As such, Duke (24-3 SU, 16-11 ATS) was routed at home by North Carolina (22-5 SU, 17-8-2 ATS) in the first installment in 'Battle of the Blues' at Cameron Indoor Stadium. For those Blue Devils fans in attendance, it wasn't $2,500-4,000 well spent, eh? Carolina has won and covered three in a row since their loss to Virginia (24-2 SU, 19-7 ATS) on Feb. 11. The 'under' has cashed in four straight for the Tar Heels, too.

Tennessee (24-3 SU, 13-12-1 ATS) still has just three losses overall on the season, but they have suffered two losses in the past three. LSU (22-5 SU, 15-11-1 ATS) got them 82-80 in overtime on Baton Rouge on Saturday, as it was party time at The Chimes after the game. The Volunteers failed to cover for a fourth consecutive game, while the 'over' is 3-1 during the same span. After playing great defense for most of the season, Tennessee has been dinged for 82 or more in two of the past three. They're allowing just 68.0 PPG on the season.

Speaking of the Tigers, if you bet their games, hopefully you have a strong heart. Three of the past six have resulted in overtime, and four of the past nine were not decided in regulation. Hopefully you like 'over' results, too, as the total has gone over in three straight for LSU, and 12 of the past 15.

It was a rough week for Nevada (25-2 SU, 16-9-1 ATS), as they lost to old nemesis San Diego State (18-9 SU, 15-11 ATS) in Southern California, scoring a season-low 57 points. Their previous low mark was 67, and they had scored 72 or more in 24 of their 27 games. They failed to cover against Fresno State (19-8 SU, 16-9-1 ATS), but they did at least scratch out a win. The 'under' has connected in four straight for the Wolf Pack. They'll have another big test at Utah State (22-6 SU, 14-13 ATS) later this week.

Kansas (20-7 SU, 12-15 ATS) hasn't been the same since going down with a season-ending wrist injury which required surgery. This team is looking more and more like a one-and-done, or possible Round of 32 team, but not much else. Texas Tech (22-5 SU, 12-14-1 ATS) emasculated the Jayhawks by a 91-62 score on Saturday, the worst conference loss under Bill Self, largest since 2006. Now, the third-place Jayhawks face Kansas State (21-6 SU, 16-11 ATS) in a key battle this week in Lawrence.

Villanova (20-8 SU, 17-11 ATS), Louisville (18-10 SU, 14-12-2 ATS) and Iowa State (19-8 SU, 14-11-2 ATS) each had 0-2 SU weeks, and are likely to take a tumble in the rankings, perhaps out of the Top 25. The Cardinals have lost four of the past five straight-up, and they have failed to cover three straight and they're 1-4 ATS over the past five. The 'under' is also 4-0 in the past four, and 7-2 in the past nine. I-State is trending in the wrong direction, too, losing three of the past four, while going 1-5 ATS across the past six. The 'over' has connected in seven of the past nine for the Cyclones.

On the outside of the Top 25 looking in, Cincinnati (23-4 SU, 12-15 ATS) scratched out two more victories, but they have failed to cover in four straight/ The 'under' is 4-1 in the past five for the Bearcats. Wofford (24-4 SU, 14-11 ATS) was technically ranked No. 27 last week, and they could climb into the Top 25 after another strong week. The Terriers have covered six of the past seven, and they're a team no one is going to want to see in the postseason.
