    **********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up an NFL Sunday……

Colts 23, Cowboys 0— Indy won for 7th time in its last eight games; Dallas had their five-game win streak snapped. Cowboys are 2-5 on road this season; they had ball twice in red zone, turned it over both times, and had a 47-yard FG blocked on their first drive of the game.

Colts are tied with Ravens/Titans for #6 seed in AFC with two weeks left; they ran ball for 178 yards in this game. Andrew Luck has to be Comeback Player of the Year, yes?

Vikings 41, Dolphins 17— Minnesota went right down field first three times they had ball, scoring on TD drives of 76-60-70 yards, then Cousins threw a pick-6 on 4th drive and things got a little dicey, but Vikings pulled away late.

Vikings had nine sacks; Miami had 12 first downs and only 37 net passing yards. Yardage in this game was 418-193. Minnesota is 5-2 as a home favorite this year, 22-7 under Zimmer. Miami is 7-14 as road underdogs under Gase- they lost their last six road games.

Bengals 30, Raiders 16— 1:00 games were lackluster Sunday; 14 of the 18 teams stayed under their team total for the game. Bengals out rushed Oakland 171-68; two of their three TD drives were less than 50 yards (45-21 yards)- they scored 30 points but gained only 294 yards.

Bengals snapped a 5-game losing streak with this win; they won their home finale the last seven years. Oakland heads home for what is likely their last-ever game in Oakland next Sunday. Cincy QB Driskel gets his first NFL win as a starting QB. Over is 5-2 in Bengals’ last seven games.

Ravens 20, Buccaneers 12— Lamar Jackson is now 4-1 as a starting QB; Ravens ran ball for 242 yards, running 27 more plays (74-47) than Tampa Bay on a rainy day in Maryland. Tampa Bay went for two after its first TD and failed, then never scored another TD all day.

Buccaneers lost their last six road games; they’re 2-4-1 as road underdogs. Ravens are 5-2 SU at home- they’re tied with Colts/Titans for last playoff spot in AFC.

Bills 14, Lions 13— Buffalo is 3-2 in its last five games; they scored winning TD with 10:26 left and now they’re now- their win total for season is 6.5, so they’d have to win in Foxboro next week to have a shot at going over and that ain’t happening. Buffalo actually ran out of running backs in this game; all their active RB’s got hurt.

Detroit lost six of its last eight games; they scored 15.5 ppg the last four games. How is a team that pays its QB $28M a year this bad on offense? They have same offensive coaches they had last year; was Golden Tate that important a player for them? Seven of Lions’ last eight games stayed under the total.

Bears 24, Packers 17— Just third win in last 17 series games for Chicago, as Bears clinch the NFC North for first time since 2010, going 7-1 at home for first time since ’05. Chicago is 10-0 this year when they allow less than 24 points. Chicago had a 10-yard edge in field position.

Packers lost six of their last eight games- they’re 0-7 on road, 1-3-1 as road underdogs. Interesting to see with Packers eliminated, if Aaron Rodgers plays the last two games.

Titans 17, Giants 0— Tennessee ran ball for 215 yards on a rainy, dismal day in Swamp Stadium. Titans have now won three games in row; this was only second loss in last six games for Giants.

This was the Titans’ first shutout since a Christmas Day win over Dallas in 2000. Tennessee is tied for last playoff spot; those two 1-point losses back in October have to sting now. Titns are 8-6; this was only 4th time the season they led at halftime.

Redskins 16, Jaguars 13— Josh Johnson’s last NFL start was December 4, 2011, a 38-19 loss for Tampa Bay against the Panthers. Seven years later, he gets his first win (1-5) as an NFL starter, and the Redskins are still alive in the playoff race.- they’re half-game behind Minnesota for the #6 seed. Washington is 7-0 when they allow 17 or fewer points, 0-7 when they allow more.

Jacksonville had 20 net passing yards in this game, averaging 0.9 yards per attempt. Jaguars lost nine of their last ten games; they’ve scored one TD on their last 30 drives, and stayed under their team total in eight of last ten games. They should draft Kyler Murray.

Falcons 40, Cardinals 7— Atlanta took out its frustrations on the Cardinals as they snapped a 5-game losing skid; Falcons ran ball for 215 yards, outgained Arizona 435-253 and were +3 in turnovers. Atlanta also scored a defensive TD in breaking its 5-game losing streak.

Redbirds are 5-11 in last 16 games as road underdogs, 3-4 this year; they’ve lost by 10-33 points in their two games on artificial turf this season.

      Monday's Tip Sheet
      Kevin Rogers

Game of the Night: Blazers at Clippers – 10:35 PM EST

The 15-6 start for Los Angeles (17-12 SU, 16-13 ATS) seems like a distant memory as the Clippers own a 2-6 record in December. One of those victories came in overtime at Phoenix, while edging New Orleans on the road two weeks ago. The two home setbacks this month have been ugly, losing by 23 points to Miami and 24 points to Toronto. In spite of those two blowouts, the Clippers own a solid 9-3 record at Staples Center.

The Clippers snapped an 0-5 ATS skid with a narrow cover at Oklahoma City on Saturday in a 110-104 loss as 6 ½-point underdogs. Granted, L.A. needed to outscore OKC by 11 points in the fourth quarter to cash tickets, but the Clippers have allowed at least 110 points in eight of the past nine games. The Clips were able to get 50 points from Tobias Harris and Danilo Gallinari, but L.A. is still missing bench spark Lou Williams, who remains sidelined with a hamstring injury.

The Blazers (16-13 SU, 14-15 ATS) snapped a two-game skid by slowing down the red-hot Raptors on Saturday, 128-122 as 1 ½-point home underdogs. Eight Portland players finished in double-figures, led by Damian Lillard’s 24 points, while the Blazers dropped 70 points on Toronto in the second half. In the win, Portland ended a five-game UNDER streak as the OVER of 216 easily hit.

These two Western Conference squads have split a pair of matchups this season, both at the Moda Center. Portland pulled away from L.A. on November 8 to cash as five-point favorites, 116-105, while staying UNDER the total of 225 ½. The Clippers picked up revenge in the second matchup on November25 as four-point underdogs in a 104-100 triumph, as L.A. overcame a 13-point halftime deficit by outscoring Portland, 38-16 in the third quarter to blow the game open.

      Double Rocket Revenge

In last season’s second round of the playoffs, Houston make quick work of Utah by winning, 4-1 to advance to the Western Conference Finals. Things have turned in Utah’s favor this season, as the Jazz (14-16 SU, 14-16 ATS) cruised past the Rockets (14-14 SU, 12-16 ATS) in a pair of routs in the first two matchups. In the most recent meeting in Salt Lake City earlier this month, the Jazz grounded the Rockets, 118-91 thanks to a 38-11 third quarter burst, in spite of only six points from Donovan Mitchell.

However, Utah has struggled since that rout of Houston by dropping three of the past four games. The most recent defeat came in Mexico City to Orlando on Saturday in a 96-89 setback as 6 ½-point favorites. Utah shot only 31% from the floor, while the Jazz finished UNDER the total for the fourth time in five games.

Houston is going in the opposite direction through this roller-coaster ride in the first two months of the season. The Rockets are on the uptick of late by winning three straight games, capped off by Saturday’s 105-97 triumph at Memphis, led by James Harden’s second consecutive triple-double with 32 points, 12 rebounds, and 10 assists. Mike D’Antoni’s squad owns a 7-1 record the last eight games at Toyota Center since starting 0-4 at home, which included an 11-point setback to Utah on October 24.

      Spiked Out

The Spurs (15-15 SU, 14-15-1 ATS) were in control over the Bulls on Saturday by jumping out to a 19-point halftime lead. San Antonio was primed for its fifth consecutive win on its current homestand, but disaster struck in the second half as the Bulls outscored the Spurs, 55-31 to pick up the 98-93 upset as 9 ½-point underdogs. Now, San Antonio needs to regroup against Philadelphia, as the 76ers (20-11 SU, 14-17 ATS) wrap up a quick two-game road trip.

Philadelphia will be playing with no rest after pounding Cleveland in a revenge spot on Sunday, 128-105. Jimmy Butler returned to the 76ers’ lineup after missing the last two games with a groin injury as the forward put up 19 points, while Ben Simmons registered a triple-double by scoring 22 points, pulling down 11 rebounds, and dishing out 14 assists. The Sixers have struggled on the second of a back-to-back set this season by going 1-4 SU/ATS, while hitting the OVER four times in this situation.

      Grizz Frizz

Following a strong start to the season, the Grizzlies (16-13 SU, 16-13 ATS) have lost four of five games to slip out of first place in the Southwest. The last two defeats for Memphis came at FedEx Forum to Houston and Miami after beginning the campaign with a 12-1 home record. The Grizzlies will have their hands full as they begin a four-game western road swing, which starts at Golden State on Monday, followed by stops in Portland, Sacramento, and Los Angeles to face the Lakers.

The Warriors (20-10 SU, 13-17 ATS) overcame a late 10-point deficit on Friday to stun the Kings, 130-125, led by Stephen Curry’s 35 points and 33 points from Kevin Durant. Golden State went from dropping six in a row away from Oracle Arena to winning four consecutive road games to vault back into the top spot of the Pacific. The Warriors pulled away from the Grizzlies in the first matchup this season in Oakland, 117-101 to cash as 14-point favorites.

      Detroit Duel

The Pistons (14-13 SU, 14-13 ATS) put a halt to a six-game losing streak in an impressive 113-104 victory over the Celtics on Saturday as short home underdogs. Detroit avenged a pair of losses to Boston as Blake Griffin scored 27 points, while Andre Drummond pulled down 20 rebounds to give the Pistons its first home win since December 1 against Golden State.

Detroit welcomes in Milwaukee as the Bucks (19-9 SU, 15-12-1 ATS) finish off a three-game road trip within the division. The Bucks were tripped up at Indiana to begin the swing, but rebounded by beating Cleveland on Friday, 114-102 as 9 ½-point favorites. Giannis Antetokounmpo torched the Cavaliers for 44 points on 14-of-19 shooting, while knocking down 16 free throws. Milwaukee pounded Detroit in its first meeting at Fiserv Forum earlier this month, 115-92 as 7 ½-point favorites, while hitting the UNDER in the first of a current six-game UNDER streak.

Games to Watch - Week 10

While some leagues slow down as we head into holiday season, the NBA kicks into high gear, including having a handful of games on Christmas Day. We are, though, getting a little ahead of ourselves here, as there is a full week of NBA action to cram in before we get right into the heart of the Christmas schedule.

We might finally be starting to see some cracks in the Toronto Raptors armor in the Eastern Conference, as the chasing pack closed some ground last week. Things remain tight in the West, though, with Denver continuing to maintain their surprise lead at the top.

There are a lot of very good games on tap this coming week, but we have narrowed it down to three that we really like, so let’s take a closer look at our hand-picked games.

Monday - Memphis Grizzlies at Golden State Warriors

It is more than a little odd to be 30 games into the season and not see the Golden State Warriors sitting atop the Western Conference. There is no reason for any sort of alarm, though, as they are just a half game out of the top spot. They will get the new week started with a home tilt against the Memphis Grizzlies, who are currently in the #6 spot and just 4 games out of first place. This will be the second meeting between these two teams this season, with the Warriors taking the first game by a comfortable score of 117-101. That win represented the 3rd straight time that Golden State had beaten Memphis, a run that extends into last season. The Grizzlies have lost back to back games and could be in trouble against a Golden State team that is 12-3 at home this season.

Tuesday - Los Angeles Lakers at Brooklyn Nets

Prior to the start of the season, there were many people who doubted that LeBron James would able to seriously elevate the LA Lakers this season. The general consensus was that a couple of more pieces were required before the Lakers would be battling for the West. Fast forward 30 games and you find the LA Lakers in the #4 spot, just 2 ½ games back of the pace being set by the Denver Nuggets. It’s a great accomplishment to be sure, but there is still a lot of work to be done. The Lakers will head to NYC on Tuesday night to face the Brooklyn Nets as they look to get the week off to a winning start. The Lakers are a game below .500 on the road, but you have to like their chances against a Nets team that is just 6-10 in their own building.

Wednesday - Phoenix Suns at Boston Celtics

The Celtics ended last week with a loss that kept them down in the #5 spot in the Eastern Conference, but that defeat aside, there are still signs that Boston are snapping out of their early season swoon. They are now winners of 8 of their last 10 games and they have been particularly tough to beat at home, going 9-3 in the Garden to this point in the season. Next up is a home tilt against the truly awful Phoenix Suns, a team that has just 6 wins on the season and only 1 win away from home. It’s tough to see this being anything other than a blowout win for the Boston Celtics.
