13) Allow me to start today with a rant……

Texas-Arlington’s basketball team went 72-33 the last three years, 37-19 in conference games, but they didn’t win the Sun Belt tourney in the last 10 years- their only NCAA appearance was in 2008, which was the second year as head coach for Scott Cross, a UTA alum.

Tex-Arlington fired Cross Monday, after a 21-13 season when the Mavericks had the most experienced team in America, starting five seniors. Why?

Firing a mid-major coach who is an alumnus and is an honest guy (the school’s statement went out of its way to say so) and who won 72 games the last three years? No bueno.

You wonder why coaches break the rules so they can win? Stuff like that is why……

12) Whoever the next coach is at Arlington has a full rebuild on his hands; of the eight players who played in the Sun Belt final vs Georgia State, seven were seniors.

11) I saw this on Twitter Monday night and I’m borrowing (stealing) it. The only seven players who hit 2+ homers in an Opening Day game more than once:

Adam Dunn, Juan Gonzalez, Eddie Mathews, Raul Mondesi, Xavier Nady, Albert Pujols, Joe Torre.

10) Bronx 1B Greg Bird is out 6-8 weeks because of an ankle injury that requires surgery; they could move Neil Walker to 1B and play young Tyler Wade at 2B.

9) I’m watching Billions on Showtime (a great show) Sunday night and one of the characters goes into a New York City deli and orders an egg cream, which looks like a milkshake but I have no idea what it really is. It looked good, so I did some research.

Several people I asked had no idea what I was talking about, but my cousin hooked me up with some knowledge: 1/2 cup of whole milk, one cup of seltzer, two tablespoons of chocolate syrup.

I’ll report back when I have one of these and let you know if they’re any good. My cousin says they’re great.

8) There are 32 NFL teams, two coordinators per team. Of those 64 high-paying jobs, 31 of them have changed hands since last season ended. Football coaches are nomads.

7) Los Angeles Rams signed Ndamukong Suh to a 1-year, $14M deal; Rams had 6th-most cap space in the league before this signing- their defensive line should be really good.

6) ESPN’s Chris Mortensen predicts the college QB’s will be drafted in this order next month:

“Darnold, Allen, Mayfield, Rosen”

Surprising to me that Mayfield passed Rosen, since Rosen is considered the best pure passer of the rookie QB’s right now. As always, the draft will be interesting.

5) NASCAR race got snowed out in Virginia Sunday; weird having a car race live on TV at 2:00 on a Monday afternoon.

4) RIP Wayne Huizenga, 80; he founded three Fortune 500 companies (Waste Management , Blockbuster and AutoNation), and also owned the Dolphins-Marlins-Florida Panthers.

RIP Zeke Upshaw 26, a player in the G-League who collapsed during a game last week and later passed away, apparently due to heart failure.

3) Sounds like Tubby Smith will surface as the coach at High Point, his alma mater. Panthers fired former North Carolina player Scott Cherry after nine years as coach, despite his going 68-36 in Big South games the last six years.

2) According to the Associated Press, the average salary in major league baseball is on track to be around the same as last year’s $4.45 million, maybe slightly higher.

1— Daytime television is horrendous, except for March, when MLB Network shows spring training games every day. With baseball season starting Thursday, that’ll be the end of good daytime TV for 11 months. Unless you like politics, but I’m not one of those people.

NBA Betting Roadmap: Injury riddled Warriors could have value down the stretch

The NBA season took a most interesting turn last week when Golden State's Steph Curry sustained an injury which may keep him out of the Playoffs' first round. Most seasons, it wouldn’t matter, as the Warriors could defeat a lower-seeded team without being at full strength. However, this season, there's a heckuva chance the Warriors will face the Utah Jazz in the first round. The Jazz are 23-4 in their last 27 games and are the proverbial "team that no one wants to play." So with that in mind, let's take a look at the NBA's upcoming week.

Spread Watch

The Toronto Raptors are mired in a 6-game point spread losing streak and this cold patch immediately followed a six-week stretch of games where the Raptors went 17-1 straight-up and 14-4 against the spread. Still, Toronto is a very respectable 54-20 SU and 40-34 ATS on the season.

There are now just eight games left for Toronto and more importantly, it now sits just one game behind Golden State in the loss column for the second-best record in the league. The Warriors are just 3-5 over their last eight games (primarily due to injuries), so the Raptors' opportunity and motivation to overtake the Warriors is certainly real.

This week, Toronto will host Denver on Tuesday before traveling to Boston for a game on Saturday. Look for the Raptors to snap their six-game ATS losing streak Tuesday, as they've been installed as a 9-point favorite and Toronto is 21-8 ATS its last 29 when priced from -9 to -14 points.

Total Watch

The Milwaukee Bucks currently sport one of the 10 worst adjusted defensive efficiency ratings in the NBA (and 4th-worst among teams that would currently qualify for the playoffs). And lately, Milwaukee's defense has been virtually non-existent.

The Bucks have given up over 100 points in nine straight games and have gone Over the total in each of their last eight games. Milwaukee's defensive rating during this stretch ranks 26th in the NBA, which illustrates the lack of care that the Bucks players have given on the defensive end.

But it's not just poor defensive play which is at the root of these high scores. Another reason has been a change in the Bucks' pace of play. Milwaukee's pace of play has ranked No. 24 in the league for the season. However, over its last nine games, its pace of play ranks 10th (100.66).

This week, the Bucks will trek out west to play the Clippers, Warriors and Lakers. Will Milwaukee's streak of Overs stay intact? It should – at least for the game on Tuesday at the Clippers. These two teams just met six days ago and combined for 247 points, easily sailing Over the total by 24.5 points. Moreover, the Clippers have gone Over the total in 20 of their last 31 home games, including 5-1 Over this month.

Injury Watch

The defending champion Golden State Warriors have been besieged by injuries. The latest to go down was guard Steph Curry (26.4 ppg, 6.1 apg), who suffered a Grade 2 MCL strain. Coach Steve Kerr announced that Curry would miss the rest of the regular season and the first round of the Playoffs.

Besides Curry, Golden State also is playing without All-Stars Kevin Durant (ribs) and Klay Thompson (thumb), so the team is a shell of its former self. Indeed, the Warriors were an 8.5-point home underdog on Sunday against Utah and that was the first time the Warriors were a home dog in almost four years (May 1, 2014 vs. the Clippers).

Not surprisingly, Golden State was blown out by Utah, 110-91 and is now 0-3 SU/ATS as an underdog this season. Additionally, it's 3-9 ATS its last 12 games. This week, the Warriors will host two Eastern Conference teams (Pacers, Bucks) currently battling for Playoff berths, before traveling to Sacramento on Saturday.

Although it looks almost impossible, Golden State is a good play at home versus the Pacers on Tuesday. Golden State is 37-22-1 ATS coming off a loss by 9-plus points, including 9-1 ATS against foes off back to back wins. Take the Warriors.

Schedule Watch

The Cleveland Cavaliers are currently on a 5-game winning streak and have covered their last four. With the red-hot 76ers (winners of seven straight) nipping at their heels, the Cavaliers need to continue to win to remain in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference.

This week, Cleveland will play road games at Miami and Charlotte on Tuesday and Wednesday, before returning home to face New Orleans on Friday.

Its game on Wednesday against Charlotte will be a tough game for Cleveland to win, given that it is 10-24 straight-up and 10-23-1 ATS on the road when playing without rest. And if, by chance, Cleveland wins and covers on Tuesday at Miami, then it's worth noting that the Cavs are 0-8 ATS when playing a road game without rest if they're also off back-to-back SU/ATS wins. Take Charlotte on Wednesday.
