Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Wrapping up a full day of hoop

13) C-USA— Southern Miss 71, Middle Tennessee 68 OT— Potentially bad news for bubble teams all over the country; Blue Raiders are 24-7; they lost to USC by 5, to Miami by 3- they don’t have any really great non-conference wins. the next 48-72 hours will be very long for them.

12) ACC— Virginia 75, Louisville 58— Cavaliers are 29-2 and they’re underrated; they don’t have any big stars for ESPN to over-hype, and they fly under the radar. Excellent team.

Duke 88, Notre Dame 70— Have the Irish done enough to make the NCAA’s? They’re 20-14, but Bonzie Colson missed 15 games; lot of teams have injuries, though. Duke won seven of its last eight games.

North Carolina 82, Miami 65— Miami started game on a 14-0 run, but trailed 32-31 at the half. Luke Maye had a weird game; he grabbed 13 rebounds, had a couple assists, but he was 1-15 from the floor, 0-5 on the arc. Tar Heels have rubber match with Duke in ACC semis tonight.

11) A-14— George Mason 80, UMass 75— Patriots beat UMass three times this year, twice in overtime. Mason won six of its last eight games; an improving young team.

Saint Louis 70, George Washington 63— Billikens were down 11 at the half; they’re 17-15 and getting better under Travis Ford.

10) Big X— Kansas State 66, TCU 64 OT— Kid on TCU hit a 3 at the buzzer to force OT, but a shaky instant replay reversal gave K-State the last possession in overtime, and they cashed it in.

Kansas 82, Oklahoma State 68— Jayhawks are 26-5 in last 31 Big X tourney games. Cowboys are on the bubble, and most people don’t think they should be.

9) Big East— Butler 75, Seton Hall 74— Bulldogs get first Big East tourney win in five tries, scoring with 0:03.6 left in a wild final 0:30. Butler-Villanova in the semis tomorrow night.

Providence 72, Creighton 68 OT— You wonder how these teams from the midwest like trudging to Manhattan every March for their conference tournament. Long trip after a long season, especially when Bluejays already have their NCAA bid in order, despite going 3-6 in their last nine D-I games.

8) Big Sky— Southern Utah 92, Idaho 78— 10th-seed Thunderbirds are in Big Sky semis; they eliminated an Idaho team here that is the 2nd-most experienced team in country.

Montana 84, North Dakota 76— Top-seed has won last seven Big Sky tournaments, but Griz trailed by 6 with 15:48 left, before restoring order down the stretch. Montana will play Northern Colorado in the semis; the Bears crushed Weber State 80-55.

7) Sounds like Mike Moustakas will return to the Royals and Carlos Gonzalez will go back to Colorado, which is bad news for my fantasy team, and bad news for those two guys’ wallets. Not a lot of appetite for teams to spend big money on 30-ish free agents.

6) Big West— Fullerton 76, Long Beach 74— Tough game to ref; very physical. Allman played whole game for the Titans- they need to win next two days to win the tournament. He’ll need some rest eventually.

Fullerton-Davis play in semis Friday; Titans won both meetings during season. Head coaches had words after the first meeting; Fullerton coach Taylor is a Cal-Davis alum.

5) AAC— None of the eight AAC teams who played today will make the NCAA’s unless they win this AAC tournament. Scanning Twitter this week, it is amazing how many people put up their fields of 68 online, as if any of that means anything. Only thing that matters is what we see at 6:00 Sunday on TBS.

Memphis has quietly won six of its last seven games, as rumors about Penny Hardaway being the next Tigers’ coach float around. Memphis is 20-12 and plays Tulsa on Friday.

4) MAC— Buffalo signed coach Nate Oats to a 5-year contract extension; good for him. Bulls are 61-38 under Oats, 36-18 in conference games.

Toledo 71, Miami 69— Rockets avoid an upset here, surviving 4-23 shooting on the arc.

3) Mountain West— Utah State 78, Boise State 75— Big upset puts Broncos on the bubble and maybe in the NIT. Boise does have a win at Oregon, but not much else on its resume.

Nevada 79, UNLV 74— Wolf Pack have lot of injury issues, but they shot 12-25 on arc in this game and came back from 12 down in second half. UNLV PG Johnson got his 4th foul early in second half and Wolf Pack went on a run after that.

2) Pac-12— Arizona-UCLA play in Pac-12 semis Friday; teams met only once this season, with Bruins winning 82-74 in Tucson. Does UCLA need a win to make the NCAA’s?

1) SEC— Alabama 71, Texas A&M 70— Collin Sexton went length of court and hit a runner at the buzzer for the walk-off game-winner. Back in December, Aggies were thought to be Final Four caliber; they were 11-1 at Christmas, but finish 20-12. Could they be going to Dayton? Aggies’ last three games were decided by total of four points.

Georgia 62, Missouri 60— Star freshman Michael Porter Jr played in this game, after missing the whole season except for the first 2:00. Porter was 5-17 from floor in 23:00, which is an awful lot of shots for a kid who hasn’t played since November. You wonder how his presence affected team chemistry.

Florida beat Arkansas 88-73 at home Jan 17, going 13-25 on arc; Gators won last eight series games, beating Hogs 68-61 in this event two years ago. Since ’03, Florida is 4-0 vs Arkansas in SEC tourney. Florida won its last three games overall, by 6-21-13 points; they’re just 2-3 in last three SEC tourneys. Arkansas held off South Carolina by 5 last nite, outscoring Gamecocks 23-10 on foul line; senior G Beard was only Hog to play more than 30:00. Last four times Arkansas won their first SEC tournament game, they also won their second game.

Conference USA tournament, Frisco, TX
Western Kentucky beat Old Dominion twice this season, winning by 7-22 points; before this season, Hilltoppers had lost six games in row to ODU. WKU is 16-4 in its last 20 games after routing UAB last nite, avenging an earlier loss to the Blazers- despite the lopsided 98-70 final, Hilltoppers played four guys 33:00+, with Thompson playing all 40:00. Monarchs won nine of their last ten games after outlasting La Tech 62-58 last nite in low-possession (60) game where ODU played three starters 33:00+.

Big East tournament, NYC
Providence won three of last four games after its OT win over Creighton yesterday, when four starters played 40:00+. Friars split pair with Xavier this year, beating Musketeers by 9 at home, losing by 10 in Cintas Center 10 days ago- they’re 6-9 vs top 50 teams this season. Xavier is 6-4 vs Providence in Big East games; this is first time they’ve met in this event. Xavier pulled away from St John’s Thursday, winning 88-60, but it was 33-29 at half; only two Xavier guys played more than 29:00. Musketeers won 13 of their last 14 games overall.

Butler lost five of its last eight games, coming from behind (down 8 at half) to beat Seton Hall in dramatic fashion last nite, after Pirates has beaten them twice during season. Bulldogs scored winning hoop with 0:03.6 left to play. Butler beat Villanova 101-93 at home this year (they were 15-22 on arc), then lost rematch by 11 in Philly (they were 12-29 on arc and led by 13 early). Wildcats are 7-3 in Big East play vs Butler; Bulldogs won three of last four meetings. Villanova made 15-29 on arc last nite; one Wildcat played more than 29:00 in easy win over Marquette.

ACC tournament, Brooklyn
Virginia won its last six games overall- they pounded Clemson 61-36 at home Jan 23, holding Tigers to 13 second half points. Cavaliers won last seven series games. Virginia scored 1.29 ppp in 75-58 win over Louisville yesterday; three Virginia guys played 36:00+. UVa shot 58.5% inside the arc. Clemson played three starters 38:00+ in Thursday’s hard-earned 90-82 win over BC; Tigers won three of last four games, are 8-6 vs top 50 teams this season. Clemson won last seven times they scored 70+ points; they lost last five times they scored less than 70.

North Carolina/Duke split two meetings this year; Duke outscored UNC 49-29 in 2nd half of Saturday’s 74-64 home win over the Heels, after UNC led by 10 at half. Duke is 9-4 in last 13 series games; they beat Tar Heels in last two ACC tourney meetings. Duke won six of its last seven games, with only loss by point at Virginia Tech; Blue Devils beat Notre Dame 88-70 last nite, playing four starters 34:00+. Kansas C Azubuike is out this week with an injury; Jayhawks’ bench had been playing 3rd-least minutes in country (played 33:00 yesterday). Kansas won six of its last seven games; they waxed Okla State by 14 yesterday, avenging pair of losses to Cowboys during season- they played four starters 34:00+. Jayhawks are 26-5 in last 31 Big X tourney games. Kansas beat K-State twice this year, by 1-14 points; they’ve won last seven games in this lopsided rivalry (30-5 in last 35 meetings). K-State played three guys 41:00+ in OT win over TCU yesterday.

West Virginia is 5-3 in its last eight games; they’re 12-6 vs top 50 teams this season, went WWL in last two Big X tourneys. WVU beat Baylor by 13 last nite after struggling to score for first 12:00- they used three starters 33:00+. Mountaineers split pair with Texas Tech this year, losing by 1 in Lubbock, winning the rematch by 10 at home 11 days ago. WVU won eight of last ten series games overall. Tech held on to beat Texas by 4 last nite after leading by 14 early- only Tech kids played more than 28:00. Last night was Tech’s first Big X tourney win in five years.

Mountain West tournament, Thomas & Mack Center, Las Vegas
Nevada won seven of its last eight games; they split pair with San Diego State this year, beating Aztecs 83-58 at home Feb 10 (game was tied at half), lost by 5 in Viejas Center six nites ago. San Diego St is 9-2 in MW games vs Nevada; 2-2 the last two years. Nevada made 12-25 on arc in a tough win over UNLV Thursday- Wolf Pack was down 12 in 2nd half- they played four starters 31:00+. Aztecs won last seven games, are peaking at right time; they spanked Fresno by 12 last nite, avenging pair of regular season losses to FSU. Three Aztecs played 31:00+ last nite.

Pac-12 tournament, T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas
UCLA won 82-74 at Arizona Feb 8, in teams only meeting this season; Bruins made 11-24 on arc in a game they led by 10 at half. Over last six years, Arizona is 3-2 vs UCLA in Pac-12 tourney; teams split their last 14 meetings overall. Wildcats won six of their last seven games; they whipped Colorado by 16 yesterday, going 26-38 on foul line- three Arizona kids played 34:00+. Bruins are 4-3 in its last seven games overall; they’re 4-6 in Pac-12 road games this season. UCLA made 12-27 on arc in 88-77 win over Stanford- Holiday played all 40:00, Welsh 34:00.

Titans edged Long Beach by hoop yesterday, despite giving up 16 offensive boards and going just 2-8 on arc- their best three guys all played 35:00+. Aggies won their last six games; they struggled with lowly Riverside yesterday, winning by 4 while playing three guys 35:00+. Davis won this tournament for first time last season.

Irvine won nine of their last 11 games overall; they’re 10-4 in last 14 Big West tourney games; Anteaters split pair with Santa Barbara this season, losing by 12 in Thunderdome in January, winning rematch by 20 at home 15 days ago. Irvine won five of last seven series games; they survived Hawai’i by point last nite (68-67), rallying from down 10 with 4:08 left. Four Anteaters played 30:00+. AAC Conference Tournament Quarterfinals betting preview and odds

It's on to the quarterfinals for the final eight teams remaining in the AAC conference tournament in Orlando. The top four seeds - Cincinnati, Wichita St., Houston, and Tulsa - will be fresh off their opening round byes and ready to take on all challengers Friday at Amway Center.

Southern Methodist Mustangs vs Cincinnati Bearcats (-13.5, 127)

Banged-up SMU put together a surprisingly effective offensive performance in its American Athletic Conference Tournament win over Connecticut on Wednesday. But the Mustangs will need to be even more prolific Thursday afternoon in Orlando as they take on No. 10 Cincinnati, the tournament's top seed and owner of the country's No. 2 scoring defense.

With team scoring leader Shake Milton on the sidelines - likely for the entire AAC Tournament - with a hand injury, SMU leaned on a trio of scorers to build a big lead against the Huskies, then hold on for dear life after UConn closed to within four late. Ben Emelogu II had a team-best 23 points in the 80-73 victory, while Akoy Agau added a career-best 21 and Jahmal McMurray chipped in 19. Those three will have to be just as good - or better - Thursday.

The Bearcats come in having allowed 57.3 points per game during the regular season, second only to Virginia (52.8) and well ahead of third-place Central Florida (61.3). Cincinnati also dominated the two-game series with the Mustangs, winning both games by a combined 41 points. The Bearcats are led by AAC MVP Gary Clark, who put together the most complete season of any player in the conference - averaging 12.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 blocked shots while shooting 51.3 percent from the field and 44.2 percent from 3-point range.

Memphis Tigers vs Tulsa Golden Hurricane (-3.5, 140.5)

Tulsa, one of the hottest teams in the American Athletic Conference, looks to keep it going in its first game in the league’s tournament Friday, facing Memphis in the quarterfinal round at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. The fourth-seeded Golden Hurricane have won eight of their last nine contests - with the one loss being at AAC champ Cincinnati - while the fifth-seeded Tigers have won two straight, including a two-point victory over South Florida in the opening round Thursday.

Junior forward Kyvon Davenport was the star in the tournament opener for the Tigers, scoring a career-high 27 points and grabbing nine rebounds as he continues to adjust to his lead role with leading scorer Jeremiah Martin sidelined for the rest of the season. Junior Kareem Brewton Jr. is a big key with Martin out, as he takes over his role at the point and has averaged 13 points along with five assists over the last four contests.

Forward Junior Etou leads the Tulsa attack, averaging 15.1 points and 7.7 rebounds, while the guard combo of Sterling Taplin (11.7 points, 4.4 assists) and Corey Henderson Jr. (10.2 points) provide scoring punch from the perimeter. Henderson can especially get hot from 3-point range, hitting five from beyond the arc during Tulsa’s opening 24-0 run in a win over Temple on Sunday. The Golden Hurricane doesn't have gaudy defensive numbers for the season, but over the past five games Tulsa has held opponents to 59.5 points in its four wins during that stretch. Coach Frank Haith's squad has also held three of those four opponents to under 38 percent shooting from the field, compared to the 41.8 percent teams have shot against the team all season.

Temple Owls vs Wichita St. Shockers (OFF)

Wichita State has had its hands full with Temple this season, and now a third matchup will decide which team advances to the American Athletic Conference tournament semifinals. The Shockers, seeded second in this Orlando-based event, are aiming to bounce back against the seventh-seeded Owls after losing their regular-season finale to league champion Cincinnati. Wichita State and Temple met twice during the regular season with the Owls pulling an 81-79 upset in the first meeting thanks to Obi Enechionyia's two late free throws in overtime. In the second meeting, the Owls led 56-42 at halftime before the Shockers outscored them by 21 points after intermission en route to an 93-86 triumph.

Temple advanced to this matchup with Wednesday's 82-77 victory against Tulane, fueled by Enechionyia's 19 points and Shizz Alston Jr.'s 17 points and eight assists. Enechionyia was 5-of-7 from 3-point range against Tulane after making 5-of-18 attempts over the previous four games. Alston added two 3-pointers on Thursday - his fourth straight game with multiple 3s - and notched his second-highest assist total of the season after failing to record any assists in the regular-season finale.

Wichita State won seven straight down the stretch before falling to Cincinnati, 62-61, and now will attempt to avoid back-to-back losses for the second time this season. Landry Shamet (14.6 points) leads four players averaging double-digit points and also has 150 assists - more than twice as many as his next-closest teammate. Shaquille Morris contributes 14.2 points and 5.5 rebounds, while Darral Willis Jr. pitches in 10.6 points and 6.0 boards - and each shoots above 50 percent from the field. Both big men can make 3-pointers, as well, and in fact the top seven scorers for Wichita State all shoot at least 35 percent from long distance.

Central Florida Knights vs Houston Cougars (OFF)

Houston doesn't feel much pressure as it prepares to face Central Florida in Friday's quarterfinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The No. 3-seeded Cougars have won 10 of their past 12 games and expect to be part of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

The sixth-seeded Knights, who lost their only meeting with Houston 69-65 at home a month ago, will depend on their defense to slow the high-scoring Cougars. UCF ranks third nationally in scoring defense (61.0 points) while holding opponents to a 39.5-percent clip from the floor. Junior guard B.J. Taylor, who missed 16 games with a foot injury, leads the Knights with 15.6 points and 3.3 assists. Senior forward A.J. Davis (12.4 points, 7.7 rebounds) has been hot lately, hitting 54.3 percent from 3-point range and averaging 18.3 points over the past eight games.

Houston features one of the league's top scorers in senior guard Rob Gray and two of the league's best 3-point shooters. Gray, a first-team all-conference selection for the second year in a row, leads the Cougars with 18.1 points and 4.7 assists and has produced four 30-point performances this season. Junior Corey Davis Jr. (13.4 points) and sophomore Armoni Brooks (10.2) - the league's sixth man of the year - lead the league with 3.1 and 2.6 3-pointers made, respectively.

Big East Conference Tournament Semifinals betting preview and odds

It's semifinal Friday for the Big East from Madison Square Garden. The first semifinal tips off between the top seeded Xavier Musketeers taking on the Providence Friers and the late game will see the Villanova Wildcats squaring off against the Butler Bulldogs.

Providence Friars vs Xavier Musketeers (-7.5, 151)

After battling for five- and six-point victories over St. John's in regular-season conference play, the Musketeers looked like they were headed for another closely contested affair Thursday after leading by just four points at the break. But Xavier exploded for 55 second-half points to make it a rout. Look for the Musketeers to bring a similar passion to their semifinal showdown with a Providence team that handed the tournament's top seed one of its four regular-season losses. The fifth-seeded Friars pulled out a 72-68 win over fourth-seeded Creighton to keep its hopes for a fifth consecutive March Madness berth alive.

Providence will look to channel the effort they showed in a stunning 81-72 home victory over the Musketeers on Jan. 6 as Kyron Cartwright recorded 19 points, nine assists and four steals in the upset win, and the senior point guard had five of his 13 points in extra time Thursday to help Providence upend the the Bluejays. The Friars have struggled from 3-point range all season, converting the second-fewest shots from long range in the Big East (208) while ranking eighth out of 10 teams in success rate from beyond the arc (34.2 percent).

Musketeers leading scorer Trevon Bluiett has taken it upon himself to carry his team to a possible No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, surpassing 20 points in three straight games - including a team-best 27 in the rout of the Red Storm.

Butler Bulldogs vs Villanova Wildcats (-8.5, 153.5)

In the first meeting between the teams this season on Dec. 30, Butler knocked off Villanova 101-93 - easily the most points scored against the Wildcats this season. Villanova got its revenge in the second meeting on Feb. 10, notching an 86-75 victory as Donte DiVincenzo scored a career-high 30 points and Jalen Brunson, the potential National Player of the Year, added 27.

The Bulldogs on Thursday overcame a subpar outing by top scorer Kelan Martin, who missed 13 of his 20 shot attempts and went 1-of-8 beyond the arc, not to mention 2-of-5 from the foul line - uncharacteristic for an 85.8 percent foul shooter. Kamar Baldwin registered 32 points and shot 12-of-20 - a vast improvement for a player who had shot a combined 10-of-36 over the previous three outings.

Villanova likely has locked up a No. 1 seed in next week's NCAA Tournament but can continue to solidify that position with more wins at this event. Mikal Bridges (25 points) and Brunson (21) led the way Thursday as the Wildcats shot well from the field (56.9 percent), the 3-point line (15-of-29) and the foul line (13-of-17). Four of the five starters made at least three 3-pointers, with Bridges making at least three for the sixth straight game.

Pac-12 Conference Tournament semifinals betting preview and odds

The Pac-12 conference tournament semifinals are set and while the Arizona Wildcats are the defending champs and the favorite to win it again this year, that's not stopping them from taking an "Us Against the World" mentality into their matchup with UCLA. Meanwhile USC prepares to do battle with Oregon in the other semi.

Games to be played at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada

UCLA Bruins vs. Arizona Wildcats (-4.5, 156.5)

The stars will be out Friday as No. 17 Arizona and Deandre Ayton face UCLA and Aaron Holiday in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament. Holiday is averaging 28.2 points over his last five games to lead No. 4 seed UCLA, which beat top-seeded Arizona 82-74 in the only regular-season meeting in Tucson on Feb. 8.

Ayton was named Pac-12 player of the year after averaging 19.9 points, 11.4 rebounds and 1.9 blocks during the regular season, but the 7-1 freshman was held to 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting in Thursday’s 83-67 quarterfinal win over Colorado. With Ayton struggling offensively, junior guard and Pac-12 tourney MVP from last year, Allonzo Trier, stepped up with 22 points while shooting 10-of-10 from the foul line. All five starters scored in double figures for the Wildcats, including senior center Dusan Ristic, who averaged 11.9 points on 57 percent shooting during the regular season.

Among Ayton’s top competitors for player of the year was Holiday, a junior point guard who registered 34 points, eight assists and seven rebounds while playing 40 minutes in UCLA’s 88-77 quarterfinal win over Stanford. The Bruins are likely bound for the Big Dance with the win, but can remove any doubt with a win over Arizona. Guard Kris Wilkes, named to the All-Pac-12 All-Freshman team, scored 14 points in last month’s contest and closed the regular season by scoring 22 points in the win over USC.

Oregon Ducks vs. USC Trojans (-3, 143.5)

USC advanced to the semifinals of Pac-12 Tournament for the first time since 2011, and the second-seeded Trojans will face sixth-seeded Oregon at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Friday night. The Trojans moved on with a 61-48 victory against 10th-seeded Oregon State, a couple hours before Oregon held to to beat No. 3 seed Utah 68-66.

USC was led on both ends of the floor by 6-11 junior center Chimezie Metu, who finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds. He scored 18 points in both meetings against Oregon this season, a 75-70 victory in Eugene on Jan. 18, and a 72-70 win in Los Angeles on Feb. 15. The Ducks have gotten used to playing the close games as their last eight have been decided by single digits, including three that went to overtime and a total of four settled by two points.

Another good sign from the quarterfinal win was the play of USC sophomore shooting guard Jonah Mathews, who reached double figures in scoring for the second time in the past nine games. Matthews scored 13 points against Oregon State and was 3-for-5 from 3-point range, giving USC a third option from beyond the arc to go with point guard Jordan McLaughlin and shooting guard Elijah Stewart. The Ducks have done a terrific job making up for losses at the conference tournament. They beat Washington State in the first round after the Cougars defeated Oregon in the second-to-last regular-season game March 1, then knocked off the Utes, who had won in Eugene in the conference opener on Dec. 29.

The top four teams in the conference all play their first games in Day 3 of the SEC tournament. Can Collin Sexton push Alabama past Auburn? Is Kentucky ready to put it altogether after a up and down regular season? Will Tennessee make a statement against Mississippi State?

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. Auburn Tigers (-5.5, 151.5)

Top-seeded Auburn begins its quest for its first SEC Tournament title since 1985 when it faces No. 9 seed Alabama in the quarterfinals Friday. The Tigers racked up 25 wins en route to their first SEC regular season championship in 19 years, but suffered three defeats in the last two weeks and hope to rediscover the secret to their success as they strive to improve their seeding ahead of their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003.

"This team ranks right up there with the best I've had with trusting each other and relying on each other," Auburn coach Bruce Pearl told reporters. "It's been the most resilient, focused, self-motivated team I've ever coached."

Alabama kept its NCAA Tournament hopes alive with a thrilling 71-70 victory over Texas A&M to advance to the quarterfinals. Collin Sexton, who was named the SEC Co-Freshman of the Year earlier in the week, beat the buzzer with a soft floater to end the Crimson Tide's five-game slide and put them in prime position to punch their ticket to March Madness for the first time since 2012.

Florida is en route to the NCAA Tournament, but the No. 23 Gators would like to improve their resume when they open SEC Tournament play against Arkansas in Friday's quarterfinals at St. Louis. Third-seeded Florida was sharp while winning its final three regular-season games by an average of 13 points, while the Razorbacks posted a 69-64 over South Carolina in Thursday's second round.

The Gators battled issues through a large portion of the season, but coach Mike White is feeling good about his team as March arrives. "This team is hard to forecast," White told reporters. "We've had inconsistencies. We have, sure. But I want to give my guys credit. We've gotten a lot more consistent."

The sixth-seeded Razorbacks are a hot squad with seven victories in their past nine games, but they have dropped their last eight meetings with the Gators.

It's semifinal Friday in the ACC conference tournament at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The first semifinal will feature the top seeded Virginia Cavaliers taking on the Clemson Tigers and the later game will see the Miami Hurricanes going to battle with the Duke Blue Devils.

Clemson Tigers vs Virginia Cavaliers (-7, 117)

Sophomore guard Kyle Guy looked just fine after an injury scare last Saturday and hopes to follow up a strong performance in No. 1 Virginia’s ACC Tournament opener as the top-seeded Cavaliers take on fourth seed Clemson in the semifinals Friday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. Guy, who played with a brace on his injured left knee, scored a game-high 19 and drained four 3-pointers in Virginia’s 75-58 win over Louisville on Thursday.

The Cavaliers lead the nation in scoring defense and gave up the least points all season to No. 20 Clemson as Virginia held the Tigers to 31.9 percent shooting while forcing 19 turnovers in a 61-36 triumph on Jan. 23. Virginia has reached the semifinals four of the last five seasons and is 6-1 all-time at the Barclays Center.

The Tigers drained 12-of-28 from 3-point range Thursday and recorded a season high in scoring as senior guard Gabe DeVoe led the way with 25 points after going 5-for-25 from the field the previous two games. Junior guard Marcquise Reed leads the team in scoring (16.2) and has averaged 18.9 over the last seven games while junior guard Shelton Mitchell poured in 21 points in the win over Boston College to push his season mark to 11.8.

Another edition of college basketball's fiercest rivalry takes center stage on Friday night as No. 4 Duke and No. 11 North Carolina go head-to-head in the ACC Tournament semifinals. The sixth-seeded Tar Heels advanced with an 82-65 quarterfinals win over No. 25 Miami, while the second-seeded Blue Devils dispatched of Notre Dame 88-70.

ACC Player of the Year Marvin Bagley III was simply unstoppable on Thursday evening, scoring 33 points (15-of-23 shooting) and grabbing 17 rebounds in what was arguably his most impressive game in a Blue Devils uniform. Bagley, the 6-foot-11 freshman forward from Phoenix, looks like the best player in the nation right now and is averaging 21.3 points and 11.5 rebounds in four games since returning from injury on Feb. 24. Senior guard Grayson Allen - who hit his first five 3-pointers against Notre Dame and finished with 23 points - is equally as hot and has scored 15 or more points in seven of his last eight contests. The Blue Devils are now 7-0 at Barclays Center, including going 4-0 in last year's ACC Tournament.

Senior forward Theo Pinson had a career-high 25 points and added 11 rebounds as North Carolina rallied from an early 14-0 deficit after the Tar Heels had missed their first 13 shots against the Hurricanes. Pinson now has back-to-back double-doubles and three in his last four games.
