NEW YORK (AP) Tina Charles had 21 points and 14 rebounds and New York used a 12-1 late run to beat the Seattle Storm 94-86 on Sunday.

Trailing 83-80 with 3:05 left, Bria Hartley tapped the ball to Shavonte Zellous to hit a 3-pointer that tied it and started the game-ending burst. On the next play she stripped the ball from Jewell Loyd and then converted the layup on the other that made gave New York the lead.

A free throw by Alysha Clark got the Storm within 85-84 but Kiah Stokes' putback made it 87-84 with 1:15 left. Seattle then turned it over on the next possession and Zellous converted another layup to seal the win and give New York (6-3) a fourth straight win.

Stewart finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Storm (5-4). Sue Bird finished with a season-high 21 points and Loyd had 19.

Sugar Rodgers had 21 points and Zellous 16 for New York.

        MYSTICS 88, FEVER 70

WASHINGTON (AP) - Elena Delle Donne returned from a one-game absence to score 25 points and lead the Mystics to a victory over the Fever.

Delle Donne sat out the Mystics' game on Friday with a groin injury when Washington suffered a 98-73 home loss to the Minnesota Lynx to snap a four-game winning streak.

The victory left the Mystics (7-3) a half-game ahead of the New York Liberty in the Eastern Conference.

Delle Donne was 9-of-15 shooting, making 4 of 6 from 3-point range. Krystal Thomas had 14 points and 14 rebounds with Washington holding a 43-23 rebounding edge.

Erica Wheeler, making her second start in place of injured Briann January (Achilles tendon strain), scored 15 points for the Fever (4-6). Candice Dupree added 14 points.

        LYNX 91, WINGS 74

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Sylvia Fowles scored a season-high 30 points and the Lynx beat the Wings to remain the WNBA's only beaten team.

Fowles was 14-of-19 shooting in posting her league-leading seventh game this season of at least 20 points for the Lynx (9-0). Maya Moore had five 3-pointers and added 23 points and Rebekkah Brunson added 13 points and 14 rebounds. The Lynx shot 53 percent and had 30 assists, nine from Seimone Augustus, to go with their 38 field goals.

Karima Christmas-Kelly had 21 points for Dallas (4-6), which was just 3 of 17 from the arc and outrebounded 40-24.

Minnesota led at halftime by 14. Dallas was within eight late in the third quarter but Brunson restored a 10-point lead with a basket and the Lynx remained in front by double figures.

The Wings and WNBA president Lisa Borders celebrated ''Nancy Lieberman Day,'' honoring the Basketball Hall of Fame member at halftime. Lieberman was the first overall pick in 1981 by the Dallas Diamonds of the Women's Professional Basketball League.

          • Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

            — Minnesota Twins took Royce Lewis with the #1 pick in the draft; he is listed as a shortstop but because he is a great athlete, could be moved to the outfield.

            — WR Jeremy Maclin signed a 2-year deal with the Ravens, spurning the Bills/Eagles.

            — Chargers’ LT King Dunlap retired after nine years with the team.

            — Thoughts/prayers to Red Sox TV guy Jerry Remy, whose cancer has returned. Remy was on the air last night; we wish him well.

            — Jim Boeheim’s son Buddy is a rising player on the AAU circuit; very good shooter who may go to prep school instead playing his senior year at Jamesville-DeWitt HS.

            — Of the first round picks in the baseball draft, 18 were college kids, 12 were HS players.

            **********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but……..

            13) Obscure Fact of the Day: On January 3, 2013, Nick Swisher signed with the Indians as a free agent, leaving New York (AL). As a result of that, New York got a compensatory draft pick.

With that compensatory pick, New York drafted Aaron Judge.

            12) Michael Jordan played on the 1984 Olympic team; a pair of sneakers he wore then sold recently for $190,373 at an auction.

They were Converse All-Stars, not Nikes.

            11) Golden State 129, Cleveland 120— Basketball season is over until next month, when the NBA has its summer league in Las Vegas- there is a smaller tournament in Orlando, too.

In the NBA Finals, Cleveland Cavaliers were -6 in 212:00 with Lebron James in the game, -22 in 28:00 with Lebron on the bench.

            10) Josh Rawitch comes up with our Stat of the Day: Arizona catcher Chris Herrmann has homered in 17 big league games and his team won 17 all of them.

            9) Red Sox relief pitchers have their high school pictures on wall of the Fenway bullpen dugout and they have to sit in front of where their picture is, like a seating chart.

            8) Pittsburgh Penguins are first team since ’98 Detroit Red Wings to repeat as Stanley Cup champs; congrats to them.

            7) Astros put Lance McCullers on the DL, meaning their two best starters are on the shelf; luckily for them, they have a huge lead in the AL West. Could be lot of “over” games involving the Astros coming up.

            6) Butler hired Milwaukee coach LaVall Jordan as its new hoop coach; this job is a little different, since their AD is Barry Collier, who was himself the Bulldogs’ basketball coach from 1989-2000.

This is like the football job at Wisconsin, where former head coach Barry Alvarez is now the AD. Makes it a more appealing job, I think.

            5) Former NBA/Knicks’ point guard Greg Anthony has a son who is a top 10 point guard in the Class of 2019. Young man plays at Archbishop Molloy in Queens.

            4) ESPN’s Jay Bilas runs a couple of 3-day camps for high school basketball players, one in Oklahoma City, one in Charlotte.

The camps focus on developing fundamental skills instead of just playing games, but the cost ($599) is pretty steep— it includes two nights lodging.

There are also clinics for high school coaches ($199) and young coaches ($300).

Would be curious how much he rakes in from this venture.

            3) Mets’ TV guy Keith Hernandez is back from knee replacement surgery; when he is engaged in the game, he can be very good, but he often gets bored and his mind wanders.

Anyway last night he was good; he was asking why Yoenis Cespedes would want to be squatting 500 pounds; how does that help him be a better baseball player? Does it contribute to his many injuries? Interesting questions. Then Cespedes got hurt again. Oy.

            2) Good news/bad news department:

Good news: Fire fighters in Maine rescued a 37-year old woman from a rock in the Saco River after her inflatable raft was punctured by a rock.

Bad news: A sheriff’s deputy did a background check on the woman, which is routine; turns out she was wanted on an outstanding warrant for not paying a $720 fine related to DUI conviction, so she was immediately arrested. No bueno.

            1) Headline in the Arizona Republic newspaper recently:

“Arizona physic hit by car says he never saw it coming”

That can’t help his psychic credentials any.

            • Betting Recap - 6/5-6/11
              June 12, 2017

League Betting Notes (Monday, June 5 through Sunday, June 11)

-- Favorites went 11-3 straight up (SU)

-- Favorites went 10-4 against the spread (ATS)

              -- Home/road teams posted a 7-7 SU record

-- Road teams posted a 8-6 ATS record

              -- The 'over' went 10-4

              Team Betting Notes

-- Atlanta (4-4) has now dropped three games in a row and they're 0-4 ATS over their past four outings. Total bettors have found the Dream to be a consistent play, too. While the 'over' connected in their most recent game, the 'under' is 5-1 over the past six and 6-2 in their eight contests overall.

-- Connecticut (3-5) has won back-to-back games, averaging 89.5 points per game, and they have covered in a season-high four in a row. In fact, while the Sun find themselves below .500 overall, they're an impressive 6-1 ATS over the past seven games.

-- Indiana (4-6) has been able to win back-to-back games just once this season. They haven't been terribly consistent, but they have been solid at home. The Fever is 4-1 SU/3-2 ATS at home and 0-5/1-4 ATS on the road. They will play two games in the upcoming week, one at home against the Dream and another on the road against the Sky.

-- Chicago (2-7) picked up a comeback win in overtime at San Antonio (0-9), keeping the Stars winless on the young season. The Sky have now covered in consecutive games for the first time this season after starting out 2-5 ATS over the first seven. The 'over' has been a good play for total bettors, going 4-1 over Chicago's past five outings.

-- For the Stars, they have posted a dismal 0-3 ATS mark over the past three outings after starting out 5-1 ATS in the first six. The total has done a complete flip-flop, too. After the 'under' was 4-2 in San Antonio's first six, the 'over' is 3-0 over their past three. As far as consistency is concerned, it's amazing that the Stars have allowed exactly 85 points in each of their past three outings.

-- Dallas (4-6) started out well, but the Wings have been clipped over the past five outings. Dallas is 1-4 SU/ATS over the past five games. Total bettors are a big fan of the Wings, as the 'over' is an impressive 7-2 over their past nine outings.

-- Los Angeles (5-3) hasn't fired out of the chute like last season, failing to win more than two straight so far this season. They also haven't covered in consecutive games since the first two games (May 13-19).

-- New York (6-3) stumbled out of the gate, going 2-3 SU/1-4 ATS over the first five outings. But the Liberty have pieced together a four-game win and cover streak since flipping the calendar to June. The 'over' is also 5-1 over their past six outings.

-- Phoenix (5-4) has been unable to win more than two in a row so far in a trying start to their season, and they're just 4-5 ATS. One thing has been very consistent lately for the Mercury, and that's the 'over'. The total has gone over in five in a row for the Merc heading into the new week. They have allowed at least 88 points in each of the past four while going for 87 or more points in four of the past five on offense.

-- Seattle (5-4) has hit the skids, losing back-to-back games for the first time this season. They're also just 1-3 ATS over the past four outings after covering three in a row from May 21-28. The 'over' has hit in each of the past six for Seattle.

                  Date: June 13, 2017 10:00 PM EDT

The Atlanta Dream and Seattle Storm will be looking to snap losing streaks when they meet Tuesday night at KeyArena.

The Dream (4-4) have lost three consecutive games, all on the road. The latest was a 104-71 defeat on Saturday at Connecticut.

The Storm (5-4) have lost two in a row, including a 94-86 defeat on Sunday at New York.

Breanna Stewart, who is 10th in the league in scoring at 16.9 points per game, scored a game-high 23 points for Seattle and had a team-high 10 rebounds before fouling out. Teammate Sue Bird scored 21 points, making 8 of 11 shots from the field, and had 10 assists for her 22nd career double-double.

But the Liberty used a late 12-1 run to pull away.

"Down the stretch, they made more plays than we did," said Bird, a 15-year veteran who is averaging 10.6 points and a league-leading 8.1 assists per game. "We had some costly turnovers and they were able to get just enough of a lead."

Jewell Loyd matched her season average with 19 points in the loss to New York but was 6 of 17 from the field. She is sixth in the league in scoring.

The Storm are 4-1 at home, with their only loss at KeyArena to undefeated Minnesota.

Seattle leads the league in field-goal percentage at 48.2 and Atlanta is last at 39.5.

The Dream are led by Tiffany Hayes, who was the Eastern Conference player of the month in May. She is averaging 18.3 points, eighth in the league.

Hayes was limited to nine points at Connecticut, which outscored Atlanta 37-16 in the fourth quarter.

Atlanta's Bria Holmes (11.3 points per game) and Layshia Clarendon (10.8 ppg) are also averaging double-figure scoring. Clarendon is third in the league with 6.0 assists per game.

The Dream acquired Jordan Hooper last week from Connecticut in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2018 WNBA draft. Hooper made her Atlanta debut in Saturday's loss, scoring five points in 8:41 off the bench.

"The trade for Hooper will provide us another 3-point shooter that we can really use," Dream coach Michael Cooper said. "She is a seasoned player, who has been in this league a couple of years."

This will be the first of three meetings between the Dream and Storm this season.

                  • Preview: Wings (4-6) at Sparks (5-3)
                    Date: June 13, 2017 10:00 PM EDT

The Los Angeles Sparks will be looking to avenge a disappointing loss when they play host to the Dallas Wings on Tuesday night at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles (5-3) is second in the WNBA's Western Conference, 3 1/2 games behind the undefeated Minnesota Lynx and a half-game ahead of the Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm. Dallas (4-6) is fifth in the Western Conference.

The Sparks have won three of their last four games, the only blemish being a 96-90 loss on the road in Dallas on Friday. Dallas has lost four of its last five.

Los Angeles is coming off a dramatic 89-87 victory over Phoenix. Chelsea Gray scored 24 points and Candace Parker sank a clutch 3-pointer in the final minute to help the Sparks hold on.

Dallas is trying to bounce back from a 91-74 loss to Minnesota. The Wings shot just 38.5 percent from the field and made only 3 of 17 from beyond the arc while allowing the Lynx to shoot a sizzling 52.8 percent.

Glory Johnson recorded a double-double in the Wings' win over the Sparks last week, posting 24 points and 12 rebounds. She scored 10 points in the fourth quarter.

The Wings trailed by seven at the end of the third quarter, but they outscored the Sparks by 13 in the fourth.

"This was a big step for us, especially for our young players," Wings coach Fred Williams told the Dallas Morning News. "It tells me that we're a relentless team. We won't give up."

Skylar Diggins-Smith and Kayla Thornton scored 13 points apiece for Dallas. Theresa Plaisance had 11 and Kaela Davis added 10.

Nneka Ogwumike had a big game for the Sparks, putting up 28 points and 13 rebounds. Parker posted 25 points with six rebounds and four assists. Odyssey Sims came off the bench to score 12 points against her former team. Gray had 11.

The Sparks shot 50 percent in the contest, but they made only 3 of 11 from 3-point range and were outrebounded 34-29. They also committed 15 turnovers.

The outcome spoiled a homecoming of sorts for Sims, who was a high school All-American in nearby Irving, Texas, won a national championship at Baylor and spent the 2016 season with the Wings before being traded to Los Angeles. Still, Sims said she is happy to be with the defending WNBA champions.

"I couldn't be in a better situation," Sims told the Morning News.

                      • Wednesday’s six-pack

Phil Steele’s top six surprising teams for this college football season

                        6) UCLA— Are 2-8-1 vs spread in last 11 non-conference games.

                        5) Marshall— Went 3-9 LY, after a 3-year run of 33-8.

                        4) Texas— Were 3-6 in Big X LY, but outgained teams by 19.3 yds/game.

                        3) Oregon— Were 4-8 LY, after a 98-22 run. Have 17 starters back, new coach.

                        2) TCU— Also has 17 starters back, is #4 experience team in country. 12-3-1 vs spread in last 16 games as a road underdog.

                        1) Notre Dame— Have 15 starters back; since 2011, they’re 4-10 as a road favorite.

                        ***************************

                        Wednesday’s List of 13: Mid-week musings…….

                        13) Will the Warriors visit the White House? Delicate issue in today’s world.

Someone in the media tweeted Monday night that the team had voted “unanimously” to skip a White House visit, but it is unclear whether that is true or not. Clemson’s football team was in Washington DC Monday for their visit after they won the national championship LY.

CEO of the Pittsburgh Penguins said his team will accept, if invited to the White House, but in the NBA, this is a more volatile subject.

                        12) Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz was saying on TV the other night that when Joe West umpires games behind the plate, occasionally he will call a perfect pitch a ball early in the game, just to see how the pitcher would react, as if to say to the pitcher, “I’m in charge here.”

Smoltz didn’t seem terribly amused telling the story.

                        11) Speaking of Smoltz, he is a great example of how scouting is an inexact science. He was the 574th player taken in the 1985 draft (22nd round), then he was traded from Detroit to Atlanta on August 12, 1987, in exchange for Doyle Alexander. Detroit needed a pitcher for the stretch drive; they made the playoffs, but lost a Hall of Fame pitcher in the process.

                        10) In spring of 2016, Wisc-Milwaukee fired basketball coach Rob Jeter, despite fact that he had won 19+ games five of the last seven years- there was internal dissension- the longtime radio announcer later quit and ripped the new athletic director very publicly.

This past season, Milwaukee went 11-24 with its new coach, who somehow just got hired by Butler of the Big East (he is a former Butler assistant), so now Milwaukee will be looking for its third head coach in three years— it is not great to be looking for a new coach just before the July recruiting period.

                        9) Nick Pratto was the Kansas City Royals’ 1st round draft pick Monday; six short years ago, he hit a walk-off single to win the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

                        8) Do umpires own houses? No way they’re home much from March 1-October 1, thats seven months right there. Baseball teams are home half of the season, but not umpires- if they’re not married, seems pointless to own a house that you’re rarely in. Condos seem more likely.

                        7) An 11-year-old quarterback was offered a scholarship by University of Hawaii last weekend. The kid’s older brother played LB for the Rainbow Warriors- his father coached Marcus Mariota at St Louis HS. I mean, the kid doesn’t graduate high school for seven more years.

                        6) Quote of the Day, part 2, from Rory McIlroy:

“Really? We have 60 yards from left line to right line. You’ve got 156 of the best players in the world here, if we can’t hit it within that avenue, you might as well pack your bags and go home.

These are the widest fairways we’ve ever played in a U.S. Open. Even the first and second cut is another 10 yards on top of that. So if you’ve got 50 or 60 yards to hit into and you’re complaining about the fescue that’s wider than that, I don’t think that’s an issue.”

This was after some players complained about the complained about the length of the rough— it was cut down a little bit on Tuesday.

                        5) Marlins drafted NC State infielder Joe Dunand Jr in the 2nd round; he is Alex Rodriguez’ nephew. Dunand played SS at NC State, but the Marlins announced him as a 3B.

                        4) Kid who is a kicker at Central Florida has made 41 videos about what it is like to be a college athlete, and he put them on YouTube. Because the videos got over 10,000 visits, he could sell ads for the videos, but making money off them could jeopardize his amateur status, which seems both childish and hypocritical but that is today’s world.

The NCAA hasn’t gotten involved yet; let’s hope they let the kid do his thing.

                        3) Brewers called up pitching prospect Brandon Woodruff to start the first game of their twin bill Tuesday in St Louis, but his hamstring tightened up when he was warming up and he was scratched from the start, and went on the DL. Baseball players get hurt a lot.

Not often a guy goes on the major league DL before he ever appears in a game.

                        2) Cubs 14, Mets 3— Rough night for Mets’ pitcher Zach Wheeler; he faced 14 batters- 8 of them scored.

Cubs batted Anthony Rizzo leadoff; he scored twice and knocked in three runs. Ian Happ had a grand slam and four strikeouts, first big leaguer in two years (Derek Norris) to do that.

                        1) 28 of 60 players drafted in last year’s NBA Draft were born outside this country; supposed to lot less this year.
