    BIG EAST FINAL
    Matchup Records Skinny Projection
    .
    No. 1 Villanova
    Overall: 30-3 SU, 18-15 ATS
    Totals: 12-21 O/U

    No. 6 Creighton
    Overall: 25-8 SU, 19-12 ATS
    Totals: 13-17-1 O/U

No. 1 Villanova vs. No. 6 Creighton (FOX, 5:30 p.m. ET)

If this game is close down the stretch, neither one of these teams should be shook given what transpired in the semifinals. Both teams are here because they not only landed the last punch, but also dodged the final bullet. In the Wildcats' case, that was a point-blank layup missed by Seton Hall's Angel Delgado, who would've likely sent a game the Pirates led for the majority of the evening to overtime if he'd executed something he typically manages in his sleep. The degree of difficult for Xavier's JP Macura was much more challenging since he pulled up from nearly 25 feet, misfiring on the game-tying 3-pointer in the closing seconds after Blue Jays' leading scorer Marcus Foster snapped a tie with a pull-up 3-pointer of his own. Creighton has reached the Big East final for the second time since joining the conference in 2014 and finding immediate success thanks to Doug McDermott. Bryce Cotton, who has since bounced around the NBA and is currently playing Australia, led Providence to a 65-58 win at the Garden. Villanova won its second title, the first under head coach Jay Wright, in '15 but lost last year. Even after winning an NCAA championship and dominating the league with a 16-2 regular season, the Wildcats are hungry to claim another one of these and looked every bit invested as they rallied from 11 points down and held on after four lead changes in the final minutes. Josh Hart, a top candidate for National Player of the Year, led Villanova with 19 points and 10 boards, delivering the go-ahead 3-point play with 9.6 seconds remaining. It won despite shooting 5-for-19 from beyond the arc and 10-for-17 from the free-throw line, so 'Nova did some flirting with disaster and still won for the 13th time in 14 games. Foster's shot connected with 6.9 seconds left, on the heels of losing a late lead with just 15 ticks left. Despite draining 13-of-20 3-pointers, Creighton's fate wasn't decided until Xavier's final attempt clanked off the rim. After shooting 18-for-25 from the field in the second half and 7-for-9 from 3-point range, the Blue Jays will come into their third clash against Villanova with some confidence. They've rescued their profile in this tournament following a skid after losing point guard Mo Watson to a knee injury. In center Justin Patton, Creighton has a big man who can command attention inside the way Delgado did, so 'Nova must be prepared for another challenge after being pushed around by Seton Hall in the paint. Villanova beat Creighton in Omaha (80-70) on Dec. 31 when it was the No. 1 team in the country and 79-63 in Philly on Feb. 25 when it was ranked second. That first game was a New Year's Eve battle of unbeatens, won by Jalen Brunson's career-high 27 points. Foster led Creighton in scoring in both games, averaging 24.5 points despite the losses. The Blue Jays could probably rise a seed line or two with a win here, while Villanova has already done enough to secure a No. 1 seed, though it could be ranked as the top overall team by finishing the deal here. The under has prevailed in 12 of 17 'Nova games following Friday's win and came through in both Creighton games. It has hit in five of six Jays' games, including yesterday's by a half-point.

    BIG 12 FINAL
    Matchup Records Skinny Projection

    No. 2 West Virginia

    Totals: 15-12-1 O/U

    No. 4 Iowa State
    Overall: 22-10 SU, 17-12 ATS
    Totals: 17-12 O/U

No. 2 West Virginia vs. No. 4 Iowa State (ESPN, 6:00 p.m. ET)

In early February, Iowa State owned a 6-5 record inside the Big 12 after losing at last-place Texas. The Cyclones have torn through the conference recently by winning eight of nine games to reach the Big 12 championship against West Virginia. Iowa State cruised past TCU on Friday, 84-63 as 4 ½-point favorites to cash the OVER for the eighth straight game. The only loss in this stretch for ISU came in the season finale at West Virginia, 87-76, as the Mountaineers pulled off the season sweep of the Cyclones. WVU squeezed past Kansas State in a 51-50 victory on Friday, but failed to cover as six-point favorites. The Mountaineers dropped to 1-5-1 ATS in the last seven games, in spite of winning six times during this stretch. West Virginia is playing for the Big 12 championship for the second straight season after losing to Kansas in 2016, while Iowa State captured the tournament title in both 2014 and 2015.

    No. 5 Duke
    Overall: 26-8 SU, 14-18-1 ATS
    Totals: 17-16 O/U

No. 3 Notre Dame vs. No. 5 Duke (ESPN, 9:00 p.m. ET)

The Irish topped Florida State in Friday's semifinals, while the Blue Devils topped UNC in the third installment of the 'Battle of the Blues'. So we'll get a matchup against good friends Mike Brey and Mike Krzyzewski in the ACC Final. These two sides met once during the regular season, and it was the Blue Devils coming away with an 84-74 victory in South Bend. Notre Dame has come alive over the past few weeks after a four-game slide from Jan. 24-Feb. 5. The Irish are 8-1 SU over their past nine outings, and 8-2 ATS over their past 10 outings. The 'under' has cashed in five of their past six outings, while the 'over' has cashed in each of Duke's three tournament games so far, and four in a row overall. The Blue Devils are looking for their 20th ACC Tournament championship, most of any school in the conference. Notre Dame won their only ACC Tournament in 2015. For just the second time in the past seven years the final does not feature the University of North Carolina.

    PAC-12 FINAL
    Matchup Records Skinny Projection

    No. 1 Oregon
    Overall: 29-4 SU, 19-13 ATS
    Totals: 18-13-1 O/U

    No. 2 Arizona
    Overall: 29-4 SU, 17-14 ATS
    Totals: 15-17 O/U

No. 1 Oregon vs. No. 2 Arizona (ESPN, 11:00 p.m. ET)

The Ducks handled the Sun Devils 80-57 in the least entertaining of the Pac-12 quarterfinals, running away from the No. 9 seed after the break. While the league's other two heavyweights square off in the nightcap, Dillon Brooks-led Oregon will try and guard against complacency against a Cal team still looking to cement an NCAA at-large bid. Holding off a late Utah surge to prevail in a bubble battle helped aid their cause, but the Bears struggled down the stretch and don't have the most impressive of resumes, making this a must-win if it wants to be confident going into Selection Sunday. Since February began, Cal's two most impressive outings before yesterday's win were losses at Arizona and home against Oregon, which won 68-65 on Feb. 22. The Bears blew a 16-point second-half lead when Dillon Brooks connected on a 3-pointer with 0.2 left, rescuing a game that the Ducks trailed by 10 pints with less than five minutes remaining. Weeks later, Cal is still looking for the signature win that escaped them and knows it will likely see full-court pressure considering how poorly it handled it as Oregon staged its comeback. Jabari Bird scored 20 points in that loss and was the driving force on Thursday, pouring in 26 and connecting on a crucial 3-point play to help the Bears avoid blowing an 11-point lead with 2:17 remaining. Both Ducks' wins over Cal went over the posted total, as have both games for the Bears in this tournament. Oregon had a four-game run of overs ended when yesterday's win over ASU fell well short of 154.5.

Michigan knocked off a No. 1 seed for the second consecutive season in the Big Ten Tournament when they ousted Purdue. The Wolverines strengthen their resume for an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament, but have they done enough? A win over Minnesota and a trip to the Finals would likely clinch a bid. The Gophers, meanwhile, exorcised some demons when they showed Michigan State the door, 63-58. Sparty manhandled them by 18 points in East Lansing back on Jan. 11. Michigan and Minnesota played a classic game on Feb. 19, with the Gophers coming out on top 83-78 in overtime. It was the only meeting of the season. The 'over' is 10-3 in the past 13 for Minnesota, but the 'under' is 2-0 in their past two. That includes the only meeting with the Wolverines. The over cashed for Michigan in their quarterfinals game, and is 5-2 over their past seven.

No. 2 Wisconsin vs. No. 6 Northwestern (CBS, 3:30 p.m. ET)

The Wildcats of Northwestern likely cemented their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth with a victory over 3-seed Maryland on Friday night. They have their eyes set on a much bigger prize, however, as this team continues to defy the odds and push forward for bigger and better things. The Wildcats will face the Badgers for the second time this season. They met in Madison on Feb. 12 and it was Northwestern coming away with a 66-59 victory as 11 1/2-point underdogs. The Wildcats are 4-1 ATS over their past five outings, and 11-6 ATS over their past 17 games. Wisconsin has won back-to-back games for the first time since an eight-game winning streak from Jan. 12-Feb. 9. They closed out the season 2-5 SU in the final seven regular season games, and 2-6 ATS in their final eight outings, but they appear to have righted the ship. The 'under' has hit in three straight for the Badgers and is 12-6-1 in Northwestern's past 19, although the 'over' is 2-0 in their two Tournament games. The total pushed in their earlier meeting.

Kentucky and Alabama meet in the SEC tournament for the second straight year as the Wildcats blew out the Crimson Tide in the quarterfinals, 85-59 last March. The Wildcats advanced to this year’s semifinals following a 71-60 victory over Georgia on Friday, but Kentucky failed to cash as 11 ½-point favorites. The Crimson Tide won for the second straight day after knocking out South Carolina, 64-53 to cover as four-point underdogs. Earlier this season, Alabama lost at home to Kentucky, 67-58 as 7 ½-point underdogs as the Tide last beat the Wildcats in January 2013. The Tide improved to 5-5 ATS as an underdog in SEC play this season following Friday’s win, but Alabama owns a 1-5 ATS record in its last six matchups with Kentucky.

Vanderbilt pulled off its third victory over Florida in Friday’s quarterfinals, 72-62 in overtime to help improve its resume for the NCAA tournament. The Commodores have covered eight straight games and have compiled a terrific 9-0 ATS mark in its last nine in the role of an underdog. Vanderbilt and Arkansas split a pair of meetings this season with the road team winning each time. In the last matchup in Fayetteville on February 7, the Commodores jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead and never looked back in a 72-59 rout as four-point underdogs. Arkansas held off Mississippi on Friday to advance to the semifinals, 73-72, but failed to cash as 4 ½-point favorites. With the victory, the Hogs improved to 7-1 in the last eight games as these teams are meeting in the SEC tournament for the first time since 2013.

          • Michigan, Vanderbilt get hot at right time
            March 11, 2017

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) Michigan coach John Beilein is seeing his team get hot at the right time of the year, solidifying its NCAA Tournament standing. The same can be said for Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew.

The Wolverines and Commodores earned big wins in their conference tournaments against ranked teams on Friday. Michigan upset No. 13 Purdue in the Big Ten quarterfinals, and then Vanderbilt outlasted 17th-ranked Florida in overtime in the Southeastern Conference quarterfinals.

''We just want to keep winning games,'' Drew said. ''Hopefully the committee realizes how well we're playing, and we get in.''

The Commodores (19-14) entered the day among ESPN's last teams into the NCAAs, and then added a sixth top-50 RPI win this season - and a third win against the Gators. They have won seven of eight.

In the Big Ten, Michigan began the day as a No. 9 NCAA seed in ESPN's projected field of 68 after beating bubble-team Illinois in Thursday's second round. But the Wolverines followed with Friday's overtime win against regular-season champ Purdue to reach the semifinals.

Michigan was playing its second game since a scary mishap when its plane slid off the runway before takeoff. It led to a delayed arrival in Washington for the tournament, even forcing the Wolverines to play their opener against Illinois in practice jerseys. But they now have won eight of 10.

''I believe a lot in it,'' Beilein said of getting hot at tournament time. ''It's happened to us. . We've been selling the fun of a run is really - it's irreplaceable in their lives, really. You throw in what happened on Wednesday, now they got a lot of memories. We don't want it to stop.''

MISSED CHANCES IN THE BIG 12: TCU and Kansas State both lost games that could've seriously helped their NCAA hopes.

TCU was coming off the upset of top-ranked Kansas, but lost 84-63 to No. 23 Iowa State in the semifinals. The Horned Frogs (19-15) entered the day among ESPN's first teams out of the field and desperately needed this one.

Then there was Kansas State (20-13), which beat No. 9 Baylor on Thursday but couldn't follow with another upset against No. 11 West Virginia and lost 51-50.

Kansas State had regular-season wins against Baylor and West Virginia on its resume and sat at No. 29 in KenPom.com's rankings, but only at No. 55 in the RPI. The Wildcats were among the last teams in on several projected brackets, but beating the Mountaineers might have eliminated doubt.

LAST CHANCE?: California lost 73-65 to No. 5 Oregon in the Pac-12 semifinals. The Bears (21-12) are No. 54 in the RPI and fell to 1-8 against RPI top-50 teams.

HOUSTON FALLS: Houston might have seen its chances disappear with Friday's loss to Connecticut in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Cougars (21-10) are No. 51 in the RPI and No. 49 on KenPom, but they entered the day on the wrong side of the bubble in ESPN's projections before losing to a .500 Huskies team.

TOP-SEED SHUFFLE?: There's also plenty of intrigue near the top, too.

Two leading candidates for No. 1 seeds - Kansas and No. 6 North Carolina - have now lost this week after the Tar Heels fell to No. 14 Duke in the Atlantic Coast Conference semifinals Friday night. The question is whether either loss will drop them to a 2-seed, possibly depending on what happens with Saturday's Oregon-Arizona final in the Pac-12 or No. 8 Kentucky's finish in the SEC.

No. 2 Villanova could be the top overall seed when the bracket is unveiled Sunday, while No. 4 Gonzaga is a strong contender after a 32-1 season.

Then there is preseason No. 1 Duke, which might be climbing toward a No. 2 seed with a national-best 12 wins against RPI top-50 teams. The Blue Devils play No. 22 Notre Dame in the ACC final on Saturday.

NEW YORK (AP) Josh Hart scored 29 points and No. 2 Villanova beat Creighton 74-60 on Saturday to win the Big East Tournament and probably lock up the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Hart, the conference player of the year, became just the third player to win the tournament MVP award twice, joining Patrick Ewing of Georgetown and Peyton Siva of Louisville.

It was the third Big East Tournament crown for Villanova, the others coming in 1995 and 2015. The defending national champions have won four consecutive Big East regular-season titles.

The top-seeded Wildcats (31-3) forced 17 turnovers that led to 21 points. And with Hart leading the way, they made every big shot they needed.

Jalen Brunson added 17 points for Villanova. Kris Jenkins, whose 3-pointer won the national championship game last year, had 14.

Cole Huff and Marcus Foster each scored 13 points to lead sixth-seeded Creighton (25-9).

                    No. 7 ARIZONA 83, No. 5 OREGON 80

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Allonzo Trier scored 23 points and hit four free throws in the final 17 seconds, helping Arizona outlast Oregon in the Pac-12 Tournament championship game.

Arizona (30-4) lost a lopsided game at Oregon earlier this season on a barrage of 3-pointers by the Ducks. The second-seeded Wildcats were better defensively while building a 14-point lead and shot 58 percent to hold off Oregon's second-half charge.

Next up for Arizona: A possible No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Top-seeded Oregon (29-5) got bad news before tipoff, learning senior forward Chris Boucher is out for the season with a torn ACL sustained in the semifinals against California.

Dillon Brooks carried Oregon through its early struggles and finished with 25 points. Tyler Dorsey added 23.

                    No. 8 KENTUCKY 79, ALABAMA 74

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - De'Aaron Fox scored a career-high 28 points, including seven straight down the stretch, and Malik Monk added 20 to lift Kentucky past Alabama in the Southeastern Conference Tournament semifinals.

Bam Adebayo had 10 points and nine rebounds to send top-seeded Kentucky (28-5) to Sunday's championship game against Arkansas.

Dazon Ingram had 17 points for No. 5 seed Alabama (19-14), which outrebounded Kentucky 33-28 but couldn't get the basket when needed.

No. 23 IOWA STATE 80, No. 11 WEST VIRGINIA 74

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Monte Morris scored 17 points, Deonte Burton and Matt Thomas helped him deal with West Virginia's attacking defense, and Iowa State beat the Mountaineers for its third Big 12 Tournament title in four years.

Burton had 16 points and Thomas finished with 12 for the fourth-seeded Cyclones (23-10), who will enter the NCAA Tournament as one of the nation's hottest teams. They've won nine of their last 10 games, with their only loss during that stretch coming a week ago in Morgantown.

They avenged that defeat in a big way at the Sprint Center.

Iowa State has never lost in four appearances in the Big 12 title game, while the second-seeded Mountaineers (26-8) remain without a conference tournament title of any kind since winning the Big East in 2010.

Jevon Carter had 18 points for West Virginia, which will no doubt rue its 8-for-17 shooting from the foul line.

                    No. 12 SMU 70, UCF 59

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Sterling Brown scored 22 points and SMU beat UCF in the semifinals of the American Athletic Conference Tournament.

Semi Ojeleye added 17 points, and Shake Milton had 14 of his 16 points in the second half for the Mustangs (29-4). They are back in the championship game after missing last year's tournament because of NCAA sanctions. The Mustangs won the title in 2015. This time, they will face No. 15 Cincinnati for the crown.

SMU has won 15 straight games and 25 of its last 26 after a 4-3 start to the season.

B.J. Taylor had 20 points, and Nick Banyard 16 for the Knights (21-11). They had won six in a row.

                    No. 14 DUKE 75, No. 22 NOTRE DAME 69

NEW YORK (AP) - Jayson Tatum took over in the final three minutes, making key plays on both ends of the floor, and Duke became the first team to win the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament with four wins in four days by rallying past Notre Dame.

The freshman forward finished a spectacular week in Brooklyn with 19 points and eight rebounds for the fifth-seeded Blue Devils (27-8). Duke won its first ACC Tournament championship since 2011 and its 20th overall, most in league history.

Bonzie Colson was a beast for third-seeded Notre Dame (25-9), with 29 points and nine rebounds.

The Blue Devils came from double digits down in the second half to beat both No. 10 Louisville and No. 6 North Carolina to get to the finals at Barclays Center and then came from eight back with 11:35 left to defeat the Irish.

                    No. 15 CINCINNATI 81, CONNECTICUT 71

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - Gary Clark scored 25 points to lead Cincinnati over UConn in the American Athletic Conference semifinals.

Jacob Evans added 21 points and Troy Caupain had 18 for the Bearcats (29-4), who will be seeking their first AAC title Sunday against SMU.

Jalen Adams scored 20 points and Christian Vital had 18 for UConn. The Huskies finished 16-17, their first losing season in 30 years.

It was a typically chippy game between the teams, whose rivalry dates to the old Big East. They combined for 56 fouls, 32 committed by UConn.

Cincinnati was 38 of 46 from the foul line. UConn made 20 of its 25 free throw attempts.

                    No. 24 WISCONSIN 76, NORTHWESTERN 48

WASHINGTON (AP) - Wisconsin revved up the defense against weary Northwestern and got the desired result, a victory that earned the Badgers a berth in the Big Ten Tournament championship game for the third time in five years.

Nigel Hayes scored 18 points and Ethan Happ added 16 for the second-seeded Badgers. They never trailed in their third straight victory - second in the tournament - following a run of five losses in six games.

Wisconsin (25-8) will vie for its fourth Big Ten title Sunday against No. 8 seed Michigan, which will be playing its fourth game in four days. It will be the seventh championship game appearance for the Badgers, trailing only the eight by Ohio State.

Northwestern (23-11) was playing for the second time in less than 24 hours and its third game in three days, and it showed. Coming off wins over Rutgers and No. 3 seed Maryland, the Wildcats missed 20 of 27 shots in the first half, had only one assist and trailed 38-21.

No. 2 Wisconsin vs. No. 8 Michigan (CBS, 3:00 p.m. ET)

The Badgers and Wolverines will square off for the Big Ten Tournament title. Wisconsin was expected to be here after securing the No. 2 seed, but Michigan is a bit of a surprise. They ousted a No. 1 seed for the second straight season when they showed Purdue the door, and now have their eyes on a bigger prize. The two schools split their regular season series, each securing a win on their home court. Michigan ended up covering the spread in both games, a 64-58 win in Ann Arbor Feb. 16 and a 68-64 lsos in Madison on Jan. 17. The Wolverines have cashed in four straight and they're 5-0 ATS in their past five neutral-site battles. They're also 8-2 ATS in their past 10 games against a team with a winning percentage over .600. Michigan has covered four of the past five meetings with the underdog 13-3 ATS in the past 16 in this series. The 'under' is also 13-6 in the past 19 meetings while going 9-1 in the past 10 neutral-site games for Wisconsin. The under is also 7-2 in Michigan's past nine on a neutral-site floor.

                        • SEC Championship
                          March 12, 2017

Arkansas is back in the SEC Tournament finals for the first time since the iconic Nolan Richardson Era. In reality, that’s how it should be.

With the emergence of Florida’s program over the last quarter-century, it’s not necessarily a given that Arkansas should be the SEC’s second-best program. However, there’s no reason whatsoever that the Razorbacks shouldn’t at least be the third-best SEC hoops program on a consistent basis.

Remember, Arkansas won more games than any school in America from the 1989-90 season to the 1995-96 campaign, bagging a national title in 1994 and nearly repeating in ’95 if not for Jim Harrick’s UCLA squad that was led by Ed O’Bannon and received extraordinary play from a true freshman point guard from Atlanta Douglass High School, Cameron Dollar. (Quick side note/thought: Back in my playing days at summer camps in the early ’90, Dollar dominated me like no other player ever has at B/C All-Star Camp in Georgia. He was bigger, quicker, stronger and just destroyed me and told me about it every step of the way.)

Arkansas has a rabid fan base, great history and an amazing venue in Bud Walton Arena. Nevertheless, since Richardson was forced out in Fayetteville, the Razorbacks have won just two NCAA Tournament games and Sunday’s invite will be just the fifth in the 15 years since Richardson was rudely dismissed.

That stretch of ineptitude is beyond unacceptable. Anderson was plucked away from Missouri with the hope that he’d bring Nolan’s style of play back since he served under him at Arkansas and Tulsa for 17 years. However, this year’s NCAA berth will be just the second of his six-year tenure.

But after Saturday’s effort to get back to the SEC Tournament finals for the second time in three seasons, perhaps things are looking up? For Arkansas standards, it’s going to take some mid-and-late March production to please the masses.

Arkansas (25-8 straight up, 17-14 against the spread) produced one of its best performances of the season in Saturday’s semifinal showdown with Vanderbilt, which had covered the spread in seven straight games while winning outright six times with the only defeat coming at UK in a game the Commodores led most of the way.

The win was the Razorbacks’ eighth in their last nine games. They’ve posted a stellar 7-2 ATS record during this hot stretch.

With its suffocating defense serving as the catalyst, Mike Anderson’s team quickly turned a 35-31 halftime lead into a blowout. A 29-6 run to start the second half resulted in a 27-point lead and the game was over midway through the second half.

The Razorbacks won by a 76-62 count, but that was a misleading final score. They obviously took the cash as four-point underdogs, hooking up money-line supporters with a nice +155 return (paid $155 on $100 wagers).

Jaylen Barford scored a team-best 18 points for the Hogs, while Dusty Hannahs produced 16 points. Moses Kingsley added 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Daryl Macon was also in double figures with 15 points.

The Arkansas defense forced 15 turnovers and held Vandy to a season-low 30.4 percent shooting from the field.

Kentucky (28-5 SU, 17-16 ATS) advanced to the finals with wins over Georgia (71-60) and Alabama. The Wildcats took the cash as 10.5-point favorites (it was push for some as many books moved the line to 11 in the 30 minutes prior to tip-off) in the win over UGA after a frenetic/wild finish in the final minutes for our purposes. UGA’s shot from halfcourt to cover at the buzzer nearly went in.

On Saturday in the first semifinal matchup at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, UK took out Alabama 79-74 in a hard-fought 40-minute struggle. The Crimson Tide covered the number as a 10.5-point underdog, while the 153 combined points soared ‘over’ the 135-point total.

With UK clinging to a two-point lead with 3:07 left, freshman point guard De’Aaron Fox decided to take over. And he did. Fox scored 14 of his game-high 28 points in the last seven minutes, hitting multiple key shots at crunch time.

The ‘Cats led by only one at intermission. John Calipari’s team went to the free-throw line 39 times compared to only 20 charity-stripe trips for Alabama. Malik Monk scored 20 points, while Edrice Adebayo added 10 points, nine rebounds and three steals.

Since getting shellacked by Florida 88-66 on Feb. 4 in Gainesville, UK has ripped off 10 straight wins. However, the ‘Cats are only 5-5 ATS during this stretch.

When these teams met at Rupp Arena on Jan. 7, Kentucky led by only three at halftime. But the second half was all UK, as it outscored the Hogs 56-33 en route to a 97-71 victory as a 17.5-point ‘chalk.’ The 168 combined points slithered ‘under’ the 168.5-point total.

Fox produced 27 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Derek Willis finished with 15 points and five rebounds on 3-of-5 shooting from downtown. Isaiah Briscoe added 15 points and eight boards. Monk and Adebayo were also in double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

In the losing effort, Macon scored a team-best 15 points for the Razorbacks. Barford had 14 from off the bench in just 17 minutes of action. Kingsley also had 14 points with seven boards.

As of late Saturday night, most betting shops had Kentucky installed as an 8.5-point favorite with a total of 161. There wasn’t a money line listed yet, but gamblers can expect Arkansas to be around +315ish on the comeback (risk $100 to win $315).

The ‘over’ is 17-16 overall for the ‘Cats, but they’ve watched the ‘under’ go 7-2 in their last nine games.

The ‘over’ is 16-15 overall for Arkansas, but the ‘under’ is 4-1 in its last five outings.

Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

                          **B.E.’s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Arkansas has only won the SEC Tournament once in 2000. The ironic thing about that is that the ’94 and ’95 teams, both of whom played for all the marbles on a Monday night, didn’t win the SEC Tourney, while Nolan’s 2000 squad won it when it was on the bubble and had to cut the nets down to garner an NCAA invite.

-- This is UK's fourth consecutive trip to the SEC Tournament finals.

-- Watch the fudge out for Iowa State! I tweeted multiple times this weekend (before their destruction of West Virginia on Saturday night) that the Cyclones are a legit Final Four contender. It’s going to take a game-as-hell effort to send them back to Ames before the national semifinals. I was all over Iowa State as my guarantee (+3.5) last night, hitting that easily for a fifth straight pay-if-it-wins-only casher. I also had the Cyclones on the money line for a +155 return.

-- That dunk by Deonte Burton on the alley-oop last night!!! Get some of that.

-- I’ve always said that ‘Fresh Legs Theory’ is really just a cop-out for taking an ‘L’ and getting sent home from the conference tournament early in upset fashion. The premise behind it is that a team won’t spend energy galore playing three (and sometimes four like Duke this year) games in three days and have dead legs for the more important NCAA Tournament the following week. We have test cases to watch this year. On one hand (with the fresh legs), we have Florida, Kansas and Purdue. On the flip side, we can watch Michigan, Duke and, especially if it gets sent to the First Four in Dayton like last year, Vanderbilt. Unlike Michigan and Duke, Vandy only played three days in a row but one of those games went to overtime.

                            March 12, 2017

It may be Selection Sunday for everyone waiting for the final bracket to be set for the 68 teams in this season’s NCAA Tournament, but it is Championship Sunday for the top two teams left in this week’s SEC and Big Ten Tournaments.

Title games in the Atlantic 10, American Athletic, Sun Belt and the Ivy League Tournament are also on Sunday’s slate.

                            SEC Championship
Arkansas Razorbacks vs. Kentucky Wildcats (ESPN, 1 p.m. ET)

                            Opening Odds: Kentucky -8 ½, Total 160 ½

                            Betting Matchup

The Razorbacks came into this week’s SEC Tournament as the third seed after going 12-6 straight-up in conference play. They squeaked past Mississippi 73-72 as 4 ½-point favorites in their tournament opener before hammering Vanderbilt 76-62 on Saturday as four-point underdogs to earn a spot in Sunday’s title game.

Arkansas (25-8 SU, 17-14 ATS) is now 8-1 SU in its last nine games while going a profitable 7-2 against the spread. The total has stayed UNDER in four of its last five contests. Junior guard Jaylen Barford scored a game-high 18 points in Saturday’s win and senior forward Moses Kingsley added 12 points and 13 rebounds to the winning cause.

It is no big surprise that Kentucky is in the title game after winning the SEC regular season crown with a SU record of 16-2. The Wildcats (28-5 SU, 16-16-1 ATS) got things started on Friday by upending Georgia 71-60 in a game that ended in a PUSH. They then faced Alabama in the semifinals as 10-point favorites, but could not cover in a tight five-point win. Kentucky has now won its last 10 games SU, but it is a spotty 2-4-1 ATS in its last seven outings.

Freshman guard De’Aaron Fox went off for 28 points against the Crimson Tide after scoring 20 points against the Bulldogs. This was the third game in a row that he eclipsed his 16.1 point scoring average.

                            Betting Trends

-- The Razorbacks are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 neutral-site games and they have failed to cover in four out of their last five games on a Sunday. The total has stayed UNDER in their last four games following a SU win.

-- The Wildcats are 11-4 ATS in their last 15 Sunday games and they have covered in eight of their last 11 games played at a neutral site. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games as favorites.

-- Head-to-head in this SEC tilt, the favorite has covered in the last four meetings including Kentucky’s 97-71 victory earlier in the season as a 17 ½-point home favorite. The total has stayed UNDER in four of the last five meetings.

                            Big Ten Championship
Michigan Wolverines vs. Wisconsin Badgers (CBS, 3:00 p.m. ET)

                            Opening Odds: Wisconsin -1 ½, Total 127 ½

                            Betting Matchup

With six SU victories in their last eight regular season games, the Wolverines (23-11 SU, 15-16 ATS) brought some momentum into this week’s Big Ten Tournament as the eighth seed. They kept things rolling right into this championship game with victories against No. 9 Illinois as favorites and against No. 1 Purdue and No. 4 Minnesota as underdogs. Michigan is now 5-1 both SU and ATS in its last six games.

The total has gone OVER the closing line in seven of its last eight contests. Senior guard Derrick Walton Jr. put an exclamation point on Saturday’s win in the semifinals with a game-high 29 points to go along with nine assists and five rebounds. He has been the team’s leading scorer this season with 15.0 points per game.

Wisconsin was second-best team in the Big Ten this season at 12-6 SU and it made its way into the championship with double-digit victories over Indiana and Northwestern both SU and ATS. The Badgers (25-8 SU, 15-15 ATS) had lost five of their final seven regular season contests (SU and ATS) including a 64-58 setback against Michigan on Feb. 16 as two-point road underdogs.

This followed a 68-64 victory against the Wolverines as 10 ½-point home favorites on Jan. 17. The total stayed UNDER in both games. Senior guard Bronson Koenig has been Wisconsin’s top scorer this season with 14.0 PPG. While he only scored eight points in Saturday’s win, he had exceeded that average in his previous five starts.

                            Betting Trends

-- The Wolverines have covered in their last five neutral-site games, but they fall to 2-5 ATS in their last seven Sunday games. The total has stayed UNDER in eight of their last 11 games as underdogs.

-- The Badgers are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 games when favored by 6 ½ points or less; however they are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS win. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six neutral-site games when closing as favorites.

-- The underdog in this Big Ten tilt is 13-3 ATS in the last 16 meetings and the total has stayed UNDER in four of the last six games between these two.

                            Other Games

Betting odds for some of the other conference title games on Sunday starts with Princeton favored by seven points against Yale in an Ivy League clash at 12 p.m. on ESPN2.

Rhode Island will square off against VCU in the Atlantic 10 Championship at 12:30 p.m. on CBS in a game that has been opened as a PICK.

Troy will play Texas State at 2 p.m. on ESPN as a 1 ½-point favorite in the Sun Belt title game and the final game of the day is a 3:15 p.m. tip on ESPN between SMU and Cincinnati in the AAC Championship. The Mustangs have been opened as two-point favorites over the Bearcats.

                            • Vandy hoping to get NCAA call despite loss
                              March 12, 2017

Vanderbilt had a rough ending to the SEC Tournament, blown out 76-62 to Arkansas in the semifinals Saturday.

Now the Commodores will have an anxious 24-or-so hours to find out if they're in the NCAA Tournament.

''It's been spectacular run by our guys the last couple weeks, been a lot of emotional games all packed into the last few weeks,'' Vanderbilt coach Bryce Drew said. ''And, you know, we're going tomorrow to watch the brackets and hopefully have a good celebration after.''

Vanderbilt (19-15) has a solid resume.

The Commodores have six RPI top-50 victories, 12 top-100 wins and were the only SEC team to sweep Florida this season, beating the Gators three times. Vanderbilt won eight of its final 11 games while playing the nation's toughest schedule, with six of its final 11 wins against projected NCAA Tournament teams.

The two knocks against Vanderbilt: a whopping 15 losses and a bad last impression with the blowout loss.

''The NCAA Tournament, I think it's the best time of the sports season, obviously, coming up,'' Drew said. ''It's awesome whenever you get to be a part of it. I think our guys have worked really, really hard to put themselves in that position to be part of it. And with the schedule we played this year, with the teams that we have some wins over, we feel like if we go and we play well, hopefully we can stay there for a little while.''

Alabama had a huge opportunity to move a bit closer to bubble when it faced No. 8 Kentucky in Saturday's other SEC semifinal.

The Crimson Tide held their own against the Wildcats, but fell short with a 79-74 loss, dropping to 19-14. Alabama beat Vanderbilt and knocked off South Carolina in the SEC quarterfinals, but finished 6-13 against the RPI Top-100 teams.

A NCAA Tournament berth could be a longshot now.

RHODY WINS: Rhode Island still have to play in the Atlantic-10 championship game against VCU on Sunday, when an automatic NCAA Tournament berth will be on the line.

The Rams could have a slot waiting for them regardless of what happens.

Rhode Island was No. 25 in the preseason AP Top 25, but had a couple of rough stretches and finished 13-5 in conference. The Rams at least started playing well at just the right time, winning their final seven games, including a blowout over Davidson in Saturday's tournament semifinals.

Rhode Island is still firmly on the bubble, though, so beating VCU for the auto bid will make the rest of Sunday a whole lot easier on the Rams.

''This is what we talked about four years ago and to be like finally here, we can really taste it,'' Rhode Island guard E.C. Matthews said. ''We're not there yet, so we know we have a lot of work to put in and we're going to be patient and we're going to get a lot of rest. We're going to look at it as another game even though it's not and be ready to play tomorrow.''

BLUE RAIDERS RIDE: Middle Tennessee appeared to have a strong enough resume to get into the field of 68 regardless of what happened in Saturday's Conference-USA title game.

The Blue Raiders took all the doubt out of it by beating Marshall 83-72 victory for their second straight C-USA title.

''For us to be able to do that in the fashion we did it, it really speaks volumes about our team and what we had to go through over the season and not just being satisfied with what we did last year,'' Middle Tennessee senior Reggie Upshaw Jr. said.

MOUNTAIN WEST: Nevada took itself off the bubble by beating Colorado State 79-71 in the Mountain West Conference Tournament title game on Saturday.

That creates a question: Is the Mountain West a one-bid or two-bid conference?

Colorado State finished the season 23-11, but was runner-up to Nevada for the regular-season and tournament titles in a conference that is not particularly strong. The Rams didn't do much during the non-conference schedule, either, their marquee win coming over rival Colorado.

Selection Sunday is going to be tense for them.

                              • Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Odds to win major league strikeout title this season:

                                7-2— Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw

                                8-1— Madison Bumgarner

                                10-1— Chris Archer, Chris Sale

                                14-1— Corey Kluber, Noah Syndergaard

                                18-1— Justin Verlander

                                20-1— Michael Pineda, David Price

                                **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a super Saturday…….

                                13) Arizona 83, Oregon 80— High-level game; Wildcats jumped out quickly, held on at the end. I’m not big on debating seeding, but I do think that right now, both these teams are better than Gonzaga, if only because they’ve been tested so much more in the last nine weeks.

                                12) VCU 87, Richmond 77 OT— Spiders (+6.5) are our Bad Beat of the Day (they led by 3 with 0:30 left in regulation), but also they lost to their crosstown rival for third time this season. Has to be frustrating.

Bad beat #2: Penn (+7) lost by 8 in OT at home to Princeton.

Champ Week is great fun because of games like this one; VCU was in NCAA’s no matter what, but Richmond could’ve been a bid stealer, so teams like USC, Illinois State, Kansas State had to be rooting like hell for VCU, maybe harder than VCU fans.

                                11) Big Sky final: North Dakota 93, Weber State 89, OT— They used to be called the Fighting Sioux before the world became politically correct; now they’re the Fighting Hawks. Fitting that a team whose best player is Quinton Hooker won the first Big Sky tournament played in Nevada.

                                10) Duke 75, Notre Dame 69— Blue Devils are first ACC team to win conference tournament by winning four games in four days- they came from behind in second half the last three days.

                                9) Oregon lost Chris Boucher, its best shot blocker, with a torn ACL, damaging blow to their NCAA hopes. He was scoring 11.8 pts/game, grabbing 6.1 rebounds/game. Boucher played 12:00 last night AFTER the injury, which was found by an MRI today. Tough kid.

Minnesota lost senior guard Akeem Springs for the season with an achilles injury, big blow for the Gophers.

                                8) First day of the first-ever Ivy League tournament was an on-court success; Princeton snuck past the host Penn Quakers in overtime, while Yale beat rival Harvard to advance to the finals.

Princeton was 14-0 during regular season; would’ve been a bitter pill to lose to a 6-8 team that was playing on its home court. Harvard has a really good senior point guard, but their other four starters are freshmen. Unusual.

                                7) Random fact: Over last eight NCAA tournaments, the overall #1 seed has only won the national championship twice.

                                6) Nevada 79, Colorado State 71— CSU coach Larry Eustachy got every last drop out of his seven-man squad that had five frosh/sophs on it, but it wasn’t enough to win three games in three days in a conference tournament.

Question for Nevada is this: can they keep their coach now? Eric Musselman was an NBA head coach (Golden State/Sacramento); his salary in Reno isn’t that great (less than $400K). He was an assistant at LSU a few years ago; he’d be a great hire for them.

                                5) Illinois went 37-53 in conference play the last five years; they fired John Groce Saturday. Illini played for the national title in 2005 under Bruce Weber, but has only made tournament in three of last ten years.

Bob Williams is out after 19 years at Cal-Santa Barbara; Gauchos had a horrible year this season, but the three years before this one, UCSB was 34-14 in the Big West- they haven’t been in the NCAA’s since 2011, but this seems like a quick hook.

                                4) Texas State 83, Texas-Arlington 62— UTA was a team I was looking at to be a Cinderella next week; they beat St Mary’s easily in Moraga, but they got upset in the semis of their conference tournament, so they’re off to the NIT. Texas State plays Troy State Sunday for the Sun Belt title; will the winner be headed to Dayton for a Wednesday play-in game?

                                3) Cincinnati 81, UConn 71— Bearcats beat UConn three times this season, all by double digits, twice in the Nutmeg State. Cincy will be a trendy sleeper pick in brackets next week.

                                2) What could the biggest possible “worlds colliding” matchup in the first round of the NCAA’s? In 1986, Montana State played St John’s; something like that. How often does a team from NYC play a team from Bozeman, Montana?

How about North Dakota-UCLA? Vermont-West Virginia?

1— Random observation; officials called way fewer fouls in Champ Week than they did during the regular season. Watched games from all over the country: the Big West tournament could’ve been played on an outdoor court at Venice Beach— tremendous amount of contact was ignored.
