No. 8 TCU vs. No. 9 Oklahoma (ESPNU, 7:00 p.m. ET)

Oklahoma reached the Final Four last season, but the Sooners picked up only 11 victories this season. Lon Kruger’s club covered the final six games of the campaign, including as three-point favorites in Saturday’s 73-68 home victory over TCU. The Horned Frogs are going in the opposite direction by losing seven consecutive games, while covering just once in this stretch in a one-point defeat to West Virginia. TCU began Big 12 play at 4-1 ATS, but Jamie Dixon’s team slipped to 3-11 ATS in the final 14 games of the season, including a 1-6 ATS mark away from Ft. Worth. The Horned Frogs have won the Big 12 tournament opener each of the last two seasons, while the Sooners are 2-3 SU in their last five tournament openers.

Texas failed to win a game away from Austin this season by compiling an 0-14 mark on the highway. The Longhorns look to extend their season for one more game against cross-state rival Texas Tech. The Red Raiders were also dreadful when playing away from Lubbock by going 2-10, including an 0-9 ledger in Big 12 play. Texas Tech and Texas split a pair of meetings this season with the home team winning each time as the Red Raiders knocked off the Longhorns on March 1 in Lubbock, 67-57. The Longhorns began Big 12 play by compiling an impressive 8-3 ATS record, but slipped to an 0-6-1 ATS mark in the final seven games.

      No. 13 LSU

      Totals: 21-8 O/U

No. 12 Mississippi State vs. No. 13 LSU (SECN, 7:00 p.m. ET)

LSU stumbled to a 2-16 conference record following last season’s exciting campaign with eventual top pick Ben Simmons. The Tigers lost 16 of their final 17 games, but put together a 5-3 ATS mark away from Baton Rouge in that span. LSU faces Mississippi State, as the Bulldogs knocked off the Tigers twice this season, including an 88-76 victory in Starkville this past weekend. The Tigers have struggled from a defensive standpoint by cashing the OVER in 19 of the past 22 games, including five straight road contests. MSU began SEC play with an impressive 3-1 mark, but Ben Howland’s squad managed to win three games the rest of the way, while dropping seven consecutive contests away from Starkville.

      Totals: 14-13 O/U

No. 11 Auburn vs. No. 14 Missouri (SECN, 9:00 p.m. ET)

Auburn improved from a 5-13 conference mark in 2016 to a 7-11 record inside the SEC this season. Two of those victories for the Tigers came against another Tigers’ squad, pulling off the season sweep of Missouri. Auburn closed out the regular season with an 89-78 home victory over Missouri as 8 ½-point favorites, as Bruce Pearl’s squad looks for a repeat effort in the 2015 SEC tournament in which the Tigers advanced all the way to the championship game. Mizzou limped to a 2-16 record inside the conference, while picking up only one victory in 13 tries away from Columbia this season. Kim Anderson’s team covered in six of its final nine games, while playing in its first SEC tournament since 2015 following a postseason ban last season.

      No. 9 Tennessee
      Overall: 16-15 SU, 15-14 ATS
      Totals: 10-17-1 O/U

No. 8 Georgia vs. No. 9 Tennessee (SECN, 1:00 p.m. ET)

Georgia has a slim shot at making the NCAA Tournament at 18-13, as the Bulldogs need a solid run in the SEC Tournament. The first test for UGA is Tennessee, as the Volunteers lost five of their final seven games of the regular season. Tennessee snapped a three-game skid by overcoming a 16-point deficit to shock Alabama in the regular season finale, 59-54 as 2 ½-point favorites. In spite of losing their season finale at Arkansas, Georgia posted a 9-2 ATS record as an underdog in SEC play, but put together a 1-6 ATS mark as a conference favorite. Tennessee looks to avenge a 76-75 home loss to Georgia as 4 ½-point favorites in mid-February, as the Bulldogs have won three straight meetings with the Volunteers.

Vanderbilt began SEC play at 3-5, but the Commodores won seven of their final 10 conference games to own a 10-8 league record. The Commodores pulled off a sweep of Florida, while covering their final six contests. Vandy faces an underachieving Texas A&M squad as the Aggies finished at 8-10 inside the conference following a 13-5 record last season. The Aggies won three of their final five games, but the season was capped off by a 71-63 defeat to regular season league champion Kentucky. Vandy pulled off the season sweep of A&M, including a 14-point rout as 4 ½-point underdogs at College Station in late January.

        Totals: 14-15 O/U

        No. 8 Arizona State vs. No. 9 Stanford (Pac-12, 3:00 p.m. ET)

The season came off the rails for both of these teams early, which is why the reward for surviving here is the top-seeded Ducks, which means they're going to likely end the season under .500 regardless of what happens here. The Cardinal opened 6-1, then had a murderous stretch against Saint Mary's, Kansas and SMU where it came up empty in lopsided losses that sapped away some of its confidence, leading an 0-4 start in Pac-12 play. It didn't help that they struggled to make much headway with top scorer Reid Travis dealing with a shoulder injury for weeks to start 2017. He's been effective down the stretch, racking up three triple-doubles and has averaged 19.4 points and 9.6 rebounds over his last eight. He did participate in both games against the Sun Devils and shot 16-for-25 (64 pct.) and averaged 19 points and 9.5 boards, so look for him to be the focal point here. From ASU's standpoint, it will definitely be shooting guard Torian Graham, who led the Sun Devils in scoring (18.2) and set his career-high with 30 points off the bench against the Cardinal. In the two wins, Graham shot 62.5 percent from the field and hit 11 of 19 3-point attempts (57.9 pct) in averaging 27 points and seven boards. Both teams feature short rotaions, so foul trouble will be a big part of this one. Arizona State lost projected key contriubtors early this season, really hindering its ability to succeed long-term. Its best win came at home against USC on Feb. 26, so there's hope that everyone has enough gas in the tank to make a run here. Stanford has dropped three straight and was routed 91-68 as the No. 9 seed in this tournament by Washington last year, spelling the end for head coach Johnny Dawkins, who landed at UCF. Jerod Haase was hired away from UAB and will be matched up with Hurley, who lost his Pac-12 Tourney debut last year. The over has prevailed in seven of Stanford's last nine games. Totals on ASU's games have been set at over 150 points in 14 of the last 16, with the under currently on a 6-1 run.

        No. 12 Oregon State
        Overall: 5-26 SU, 12-17 ATS
        Totals: 15-14 O/U

        No. 5 California vs. No. 12 Oregon State (Pac-12, 5:30 p.m. ET)

The Bears have lost five of their last six contests, costing them a bye that looked like a sure thing after they opened 9-3 in Pac-12 play. Cal opened March with road losses at Utah and Colorado to ultimately fumble away a top-four seed. In those games, Cuonzo Martin's team scored 44 and 46 points, their two lowest-scoring outputs of the season. Beating the Beavers would give them a 20th win, but they've got to get past this game and a quartefinal against Utah to give themselves a chance to play themselves back onto the right side of the bubble with an upset of Oregon. Cal beat the Beavers by 30 points in Berkeley on Feb. 24, the only win since beginning its aforementioned skid, and won in Corvallis by 11. Oregon State won only once in Pac-12 play, pulling off a home upset of Utah on Feb. 19 as a 13-point underdog. The absence of head coach Wayne Tinkle's son Tres, a standout sophomore who played just six games after breaking his wrist, proved crippling to a team that dealt with injuries and one of the country's youngest rosters. They're looking to play spoiler behind 6-10 forward Drew Eubanks, who has averaged 14.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game and will battle with Cal's Ivan Rabb in a matchup that will intrigue NBA scouts. Rabb, a 6-foot-11 potential lottery pick, has recorded six double-doubles over the last nine and averaged 14.3 points and 10.6 boards on the season. He comes into the tournament on a 4-for-14 shooting slump over his last two games and must have a big next few days for the Bears to have any type of success. The under has prevailed in five of Cal's last seven, including three straight.

        No. 7 Colorado vs No. 10 Washington State (Pac-12, 9:00 p.m. ET)

The Buffaloes have underachieved given all the experience on a roster that reached the NCAAs last year. They'll get a shot at the fifth 20-win season of Tad Boyle's six-year tenure, but have illusions of making a run in Vegas. Colorado has won eight of 10 and handed Oregon one of its two Pac-12 losses, but its inconsistency suggests it can't overlook the Cougs. Washington State beat CU in overtime in Pullman on Jan. 21. The Buffs are one only two teams Washington took a game from in conference play. Suspensions and discipline issues have been a part of Colorado's problems this season, and it appears standout freshman guard Bryce Peters will remain sidelined for at least the first game of this tournament. Washington State hung tough at UCLA in the regular-season finale but has won just twice outside of its home state this season. In Josh Hawkinson (15.6 ppg, 10.1 rpg), WSU is led by one of the top big men in the league, and they have enough talent around him to pull off an upset if the 3-pointer is falling. Seniors Conor Clifford, Ike Iroegbu and Charles Callison would love to extend their careers, making the Cougs dangerous, but their hopes will certainly depend on freshman point guard Malachi Flynn and how he fares against Derrick White, the Pac-12's second-leading scorer (17.0). Seven consecutive Washington State games have finished under the posted toal, but the team set its season-high with 91 points in the OT victory over Colorado.

        No. 6 USC vs. No. 11 Washington (Pac-12, 11:30 p.m. ET)

The Trojans are in win-and-you're-in territory here since avoiding a bad loss is likely the only obstacle standing between them and an at-large bid. Their task got easier since likely No. 1 NBA Draft pick Markelle Fultz is sitting this one out with a sore knee. In a class filled with fabulous freshman, including UCLA standout Lonzo Ball, Fultz's impressive versatility stood out. His 23.2 points per game were the highest in the Pac-12 in two decades, which makes his 5.7 rebounds an 5.9 assists per game even more impressive. It also makes Washington's 9-21 record and 2-16 mark in league play all the more unacceptable, although it didn't help Lorenzo Romar that his top recruits from the previous season, Marquese Chriss and Dejounte Murray, each jumped to the NBA. His future is in doubt, and without Fultz, it's unlikely the Huskies will taste a 10th win. Their last win came against Colorado in OT on Jan. 18, so they're carrying a 12-game losing streak into this matchup, including a 74-58 loss in L.A. against the Trojans to end the regular season on Saturday. Fultz missed five of the final seven games, which led to four double-digit losses. A USC victory would lead to a third meeting with UCLA, which it already defeated once to notch the bright spot on its resume. Both regular-season games between these teams resulted in the under connecting. In fact, the last 11 Washington games have come in below the posted total. The over is 6-1 in USC's last seven games not played against the Huskies.

                  • Thursday’s six-pack

Odds to win the major league regular season RBI title (William Hill sports):

                    3-1— Nolan Arenado

                    9-2— Mike Trout

                    7-1— Anthony Rizzo

                    8-1— Miguel Cabrera

                    10-1— Josh Donaldson

                    12-1- Mookie Betts

Thursday’s List of 13: Doing some thinking out loud…….

                    13) Jim Boeheim is like a spoiled, entitled child; his Syracuse team plays in the ACC, thats the ATLANTIC COAST Conference, the conference of Dean Smith, Coach K, Michael Jordan and David Thompson. In other words, the heart of the league is North Carolina.

Boeheim insists the ACC tournament should be played in Brooklyn, Washington and Atlanta but never Greensboro. Why? Because it doesn’t suit his purpose. Maybe he should’ve taken that up with his school president and AD before they sold him down the river and joined the ACC to help their floundering football program.

                    12) Michigan basketball team’s airplane skidded off the runway while trying to take off to go to the Big 14 tournament Wednesday and wound up getting a little damaged; thankfully no one was injured. Wolverines had to make alternative travel plans to get to Washington.

Then again, if the tournament is in Indianapolis, a more logical location for a midwestern league, then Michigan takes a bus to the tournament and this doesn’t happen.

                    11) Was watching a baseball game from Korea the other night; the seats in the lower field boxes all come with a glove and a batting helmet, with a written recommendation that they should be used by fans sitting there, for their own safety.

                    10) Netherlands has a pitcher in the World Baseball Classic who is 7-foot-1. Wow.

                    9) NBA Draft gurus have Duke’s Harry Giles listed as a top 20 prospect; the young man has played 20+ minutes in one game this season, in early January against Boston College. He has had two major knee operations already. Don’t see how he is a legit top 20 NBA draft pick.

                    8) There is a junior college in Missouri called State Fair CC; if I had gone to that academic institution, no doubt the first course I would’ve signed up for: Whack-a-Mole. The key to being good at Whack-a-Mole: keep the mallet low. Very important.

                    7) Saw an old ESPN feature the other day, from 2012 or so, about the baseball coach at Wake Forest who donated one of his kidneys to a player on his team who needed a kidney in order to keep living. Amazing story. Hard to watch that and not tear up.

                    6) Of the 30 current general managers in the major leagues, eight of them worked for Atlanta GM John Hart at one time or another.

                    5) Mt St Mary’s won the NEC championship; they went 2-11 in their pre-conference schedule, so they could easily be headed to Dayton for a play-in game next week.

                    4) Missouri State was going to fire basketball coach Paul Lusk, who is 88-106 in six years coaching the Bears, 45-63 in MVC games, but Lusk has one year left on his contract and the school apparently can’t afford the payout, so Lusk gets to coach next season. If he doesn’t make the NCAA’s, then they’ll tell him to take a hike. That should help their recruiting a lot.

                    3) Rick Barry is 70 years old and makes foul shots blindfolded in a TV commercial, but guys in the NBA who are lucky to make half their free throws won’t try underhanded, because it doesn’t look cool enough. Getting paid $20M a year and shooting 45% at the line is embarrassing.

                    2) Career playoff won-loss record: Tony Romo: 2-4. Mark Sanchez: 4-2.

1— Thursday might be the best college basketball day of the year; 14 solid hours of games, just a ton of excellent action. This is not a great week for sleeping, but thats what April is for.

                    • Mid-Major Bids Claimed
                      March 8, 2017

Monday and Tuesday featured six more NCAA Tournament automatic bids claimed, many in smaller conferences around the country though headlined by possible #1 seed Gonzaga. Here is a look at the recent entrants into the Big Dance field.

                      UNC Wilmington – Colonial (29-5) - Projected #12 Seed

The Seahawks made four NCAA Tournament appearances in a six-year span in the early 2000s before getting back to the field last season for the first time in ten years, losing respectably 93-85 vs. Duke as a 10-point underdog in a 4/13 matchup. UNC Wilmington is back in the tournament this season as the CAA champions, posting an even stronger record this season. Expect the Seahawks to be a popular upset pick against whatever team draws them in a projected 5/12 matchup.

UNC Wilmington averages over 85 points per game as they will be the highest scoring team in the field outside of a handful of major conference squads. The Seahawks didn’t snag any overwhelmingly impressive wins in the non-conference campaign, but wins over East Tennessee State and St. Bonaventure qualify as top 100 caliber victories and the Seahawks weren’t too out of place in a 14-point loss at Clemson in December. The key to beating the Seahawks will be slowing the game down as conference foes College of Charleston and Elon did in February upsets, but Wilmington has some favorable traits of an upset threat, including featuring the lowest turnover rate in the entire nation. Sophomore guard C.J. Bryce leads the team with over 17 points per game, but over the past 10 games the Seahawks have featured six players averaging at least eight points per game as there are many scoring options on the roster.

                      Iona – Metro Atlantic (22-12) - Projected #15 Seed

The MAAC Tournament has rarely gone to form in recent years and this season was no exception as Iona and Siena met as the third and fourth place teams in Monday’s championship. It was an epic game in Albany with Iona overcoming an early deficit to pull away before Siena rallied to tie the game late to force overtime. Iona prevailed in overtime, up by four before Siena nailed a meaningless half court 3-point shot as time expired to ultimately lose by one and stealing the cover in the process. The Gaels have made the NCAA Tournament now four times in the last six years, losing in a First Four #14 seed matchup with BYU by six in 2012 as a rare small conference at-large entrant, losing by 25 to Ohio State as a #15 seed in 2013 and to Iowa State by 13 as a #13 seed last season.

Iona lost five games this season to teams outside the nation’s top 200, but they also have commendable wins over Mountain West leader Nevada as well MAC contender Ohio. In league play, they bested Saint Peter’s twice, including Sunday’s semifinal matchup though they lost to regular season champion Monmouth twice. This is a veteran team led by seniors Jordan Washington, Jon Severe, and Sam Cassell Jr., but size figures to be an issue in a likely 2/15 matchup vs. a major conference power. Iona shot over 42 percent from 3-point range in conference play as the MAAC’s top offense and on the season Iona hit 77 percent from the free throw line.

East Tennessee State – Southern (27-7) - Projected #13 Seed

The Southern Conference was a strong league this season boasting seven top 150 caliber squads and rating ahead of more well known conferences like the MAC and Sun Belt. There were no easy games in the conference tournament, but the Buccaneers didn’t have to play Furman who they shared the regular season title with, slipping by UNC Greensboro 79-74 in Monday’s championship. East Tennessee State beat Mississippi State on the road in December while also losing competitive games vs. UNC Wilmington, Dayton, and Tennessee as the Buccaneers will be a threat in the NCAA Tournament featuring one of the most experienced teams in the nation.

East Tennessee State was the top defense in the Southern Conference and they rate 40th nationally in defensive efficiency, in the company of national powers like Michigan State, Duke, and Iowa State in that measure. Size is often an issue for teams from smaller conferences and while some matchups could be problematic, the guards on this team have decent size led by senior T.J. Cromer while two starting forwards stand above 6’8”. Cromer has averaged over 20 points per game over the past 10 games as the clear top offensive option, hitting 94 3-point shots at an over 40 percent clip this season and scoring 96 points over three days in the conference tournament.

                      Gonzaga – West Coast (32-1) - Projected #1 Seed

Gonzaga has had a few earlier than expected exits in the NCAA Tournament in recent years, but the team has won at least one NCAA Tournament game in eight straight seasons including making the Sweet 16 last season as a #11 seed. Two years ago, Gonzaga was an Elite Eight team as a #2 seed, but in 2013 as a #1 seed for the first time in program history, the Bulldogs were upset in the Round of 32. While Gonzaga fell short of a perfect regular season with a home loss in the season finale vs. BYU, they still should expect to qualify as a #1 seed in the Tournament after winning the WCC Championship by 18 points on Tuesday.

There are a number of quality wins on the resume to offset the weakness of the WCC as Gonzaga won non-conference games away from home vs. Florida, Iowa State, Arizona, and Tennessee. The WCC lacked great depth this season, but beating Saint Mary’s three times is noteworthy and the statistics for Gonzaga are very impressive on both sides of the ball. Washington transfer Nigel Williams-Goss is a national player of the year candidate in his first season in Spokane with California transfer Jordan Mathews also a great addition to the roster along with the return of massive center Przemek Karnowski who was injured most of last season. There are still some questions with Gonzaga given the lack of elite competition in recent months in the WCC, but Bulldogs will be deserving of a favorable draw as the program looks for its first Final Four run.

                      Northern Kentucky – Horizon (24-10) - Projected #15 Seed

The Norse program is only five years young at the Division I level as a squad led by several underclassmen is perhaps a bit ahead of schedule making its first NCAA Tournament appearance. Northern Kentucky was competitive in finishing in a tie for third place in the Horizon League, but certainly benefited from early upsets in the conference tournament as Monday’s title game came against a Wisconsin-Milwaukee team that went 4-14 in the Horizon regular season and the Norse also beat the second worst team in the conference Youngstown State in the semifinal matchup.

Turnovers and free throw shooting appear to be problem areas for this group and the team was blown out in two major conference tests early in the season losing by 15 at Illinois and by 31 at West Virginia. Momentum is on the side of the Norse however with now a 12-2 run since late January and a team that relies on 3-point shooting and shoots decently from long range will be playing with house money as a heavy underdog in its postseason debut.

South Dakota State – Summit (18-16) - Projected #16 Seed

The Jackrabbits are back in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season. Last season, South Dakota State won 26 games to lead the Summit League and they gave Maryland a great battle in a round of 64 losing by five as a #12 seed, covering as a 9-point underdog. Three seniors played big roles last season as this was expected to be a bit of a rebuilding year for the program as long-time coach Scott Nagy departed for Wright State after last season. The transition showed with an 8-8 mark in conference play with great offensive numbers but rating as one of the worst defenses in a conference not known for quality defense.

The Jackrabbits closed the season on a 7-3 run before winning three in a row in a favorable setting in the Summit League tournament, beating the first and third place teams in the conference on the run with some dramatic results including a three-point win in the semifinal and a two-point win in the final Tuesday night vs. Nebraska-Omaha. Sophomore Mike Daum scored 109 points in the three conference tournament games and will be one of the top scorers in the field averaging over 25 points per game and nearly 30 points per game over the last 10 contests with a 6’9” 245 pound frame that won’t be out of place in an opening matchup vs. one of the national title contenders. The Jackrabbits also returned two players from injuries late in the season as South Dakota State might be a slightly more complete team now compared with the overall valuation.

                      Mount St. Mary’s – Northeast (19-15) - Projected #16 Seed

The Mountaineers took on a brutal non-conference schedule and opened the season 1-11 though with a decent win at George Mason plus a few competitive outings in taking on seven top 100 squads in the first two months. It paid dividends with a 14-4 NEC record for a regular season and a tournament title as the poor overall record is reflective of taking on the sixth toughest non-conference schedule nationally. Mount St. Mary’s trailed much of the way vs. St. Francis in the tournament championship, but overcame an eight-point halftime deficit to pull away to claim this spot.

Defense is the strong suit for the Mountaineers who have mostly marginal offensive numbers even among their conference counterparts. The aggressive defense created turnovers at the 22nd best rate nationally and was effective at limiting the shooting numbers for opposing teams as well. Mount St. Mary’s has been in the NCAA Tournament four times and in the two most recent meetings they were in First Four matchups as a #16 seed, winning in 2008 and losing in 2014. That fate looks very likely again in this year’s bracket as one of the only teams to be in the field that will likely fall outside of the national top 200.

                      • Creighton vs. Providence
                        March 8, 2017

Providence and Creighton are poised to collide Thursday night in the Big East Tournament quarterfinals at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The third-seeded Friars and sixth-seeded Bluejays will square off around 9:30 p.m. Eastern on Fox Sports 1. The exact tip time will be 30 minutes after the conclusion of Butler’s quarterfinals showdown versus the winner of Xavier and DePaul, who play the late game at MSG on Wednesday night.

As of Wednesday night, most betting shops had Creighton (23-8 SU, 18-11 ATS) installed as a two-point favorite.

Creighton looked like a legit Final Four contender from November through January. However, the Bluejays lost the nation’s top assists man when senior guard Mo Watson Jr. went down with a season-ending ACL tear.

. Watson sustained the injury on Jan. 16 when his team was toting an 18-1 record. Since then, the Bluejays have lost seven of 12 contests. Watson was averaging 12.9 points, 8.5 assists, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. We’ll make quick note of the fact that Watson is no longer with the program and is banned from campus since being arrested on charges of sexual assault.

Greg McDermott’s team has lost three of its last four and five of its last eight games both SU and ATS, including Saturday’s 91-83 loss at Marquette as a 4.5-point road underdog. Khyri Thomas had 23 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals in the losing effort. Cole Huff and Justin Patton scored 11 points apiece.

Creighton is No. 28 in the RPI Rankings, going 2-2 against the Top 25, 5-4 versus the Top 50 and 10-8 against the Top 100. The Bluejays own road wins over Xavier, Butler, Nebraska and Providence, in addition to a neutral court scalp of Ole Miss. They have home victories over Wisconsin, Seton Hall, Butler, Georgetown and Akron. However, we’ll point out that their only significant win without Watson came at Butler.

McDermott’s troops are led by Marcus Foster, the transfer from Kansas State, who is averaging 18.5 points per game. Justin Patton, the six-foot-11-inch center from Omaha, is averaging 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots per game. Patton is fourth in the nation in field-goal percentage (69.3%).

Creighton is ranked third in the nation in field-goal percentage (51.2%), 11th in 3-point shooting (40.4%) and 16th in scoring (83.5 PPG).

Providence (20-11 straight up, 20-11 against the spread) brings a six-game winning streak to the Big Apple. Even better for our purposes, Ed Cooley’s team has compiled an 8-1 spread record in its last nine games.

PU won its sixth straight this past Saturday when it collected an 86-75 win at St. John’s as a one-point road ‘chalk.’ Jalen Lindsey and Alpha Diallo scored 17 points apiece, while Isaiah Jackson produced 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Emmitt Holt was also in double figures with 14 points.

Providence has been an underdog 15 times this year, posting a remarkable 12-3 spread record with seven outright victories. The Friars have covered the number in eight consecutive games as ‘dogs.

Providence is led by Rodney Bullock, the junior forward who is averaging 16.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Holt averages 12.3 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while Kyron Cartwright (11.3 PPG) has a 211/86 assists-to-turnovers ratio.

Providence appears to be safely ‘in’ the NCAA field thanks to its late-season surge. Joe Lunardi of ESPN.com has the Friars among his ‘Last Four Byes.’ They are No. 53 in the RPI, going 1-4 against the Top 25, 6-7 versus the Top 50 and 10-8 against the Top 100.

PU has home wins over Vermont, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, Butler and Xavier. The Friars won at Creighton and swept a pair of meetings against both Georgetown and Marquette.

The ‘under’ is 16-13 overall for Creighton, 3-1 in its last four games.

The ‘under’ is 15-14-2 overall for the Friars, but they’ve watched the ‘over’ go 8-3 in their last 11 outings.

                        **B.E.’s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Kansas freshman star Josh Jackson is ‘out’ for his team’s Big 12 Tournament opener due to a one-game suspension. Jackson, who averages 16.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, is accused of backing into a parked car and fleeing the scene in Lawrence last month. The Jayhawks will face the TCU-Oklahoma winner on Thursday.

-- Georgia junior power forward Yante Maten has been upgraded to ‘probable’ for Thursday’s 1:00 p.m. Eastern tip against Tennessee. UGA has beaten the Volunteers in three straight head-to-head meetings, including a 76-75 win in Knoxville this year. Maten, who averages 18.7 points and 6.9 rebounds per game, was a first-team All-SEC selection. He was reportedly begging Mark Fox to let him play in the second half of this past Saturday’s loss at Arkansas. Maten suffered a ‘Grade 2’ MCL sprain vs. Kentucky on Feb. 18. The Bulldogs opened as 1.5-point favorites.

-- Miami advanced past Syracuse with a 62-57 win as a two-point favorite in Wednesday’s ACC Tournament lid-lifter at Barclays Arena in Brooklyn. This will leave the ‘Cuse with anxious moments galore between now and Selection Sunday. The Hurricanes will take on top-seeded North Carolina at noon Eastern on ESPN. They were listed as eight-point underdogs Wednesday night.

-- Ole Miss’s leading scorer Deandre Burnett (16.5 PPG) is listed as ‘questionable’ (knee) for his team’s SEC Tourney opener vs. the Auburn-Missouri winner.

-- As of Wednesday night, Vanderbilt was listed as a four-point favorite for Thursday’s SEC Tourney game vs. Texas A&M. The Commodores have won five of their last six games while going 6-0 ATS. The only loss in this stretch came at Kentucky in a game they led by double digits for a good chunk of the first half. The Aggies lost both regular-season meetings with Vandy.

-- According to multiple reports, LSU’s Johnny Jones will be fired after his team is eliminated from the SEC Tournament.
