Press Release: Clippers Announce Orlando Pro Summer League Roster and Schedule

The Los Angeles Clippers today announced their roster for the 2016 Southwest Airlines Pro Summer League in Orlando. For the second straight year, the Clippers will participate in the league from July 2 - 8 at Amway Center. The team is highlighted by current Clippers C.J. Wilcox and Branden Dawson, plus 2016 draft picks Brice Johnson, David Michineau and Diamond Stone.

In the 2015 Orlando Pro Summer League, Wilcox posted averages of 14.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.4 steals in 32.0 minutes of play, while Dawson averaged 12.8 points and 10.3 rebounds.

Johnson, the 25th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, was a consensus First Team All-American at North Carolina his senior season. He averaged 17.0 points, 10.4 rebounds and 1.5 blocks in 40 games (all starts), helping lead the Tar Heels to the NCAA National Championship Game. Michineau, the 39th overall pick in the draft, has spent the last three seasons with ES Chalon-Sur-Saone in France. In three seasons with Chalon, he averaged 4.2 points and 1.3 assists. Stone, the 40th overall pick, played one season at the University of Maryland, where he was named the AP Big Ten Newcomer in 2016. The Milwaukee native averaged 12.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in 35 games (all starts), helping lead the Terrapins to the Sweet Sixteen.

Each team will play five games over the seven-day event, with the final standings decided by a Championship Day on the final day of the league. A point system will establish the standings leading up to the final day, with eight points awarded each game based on: four points for winning the game and one point for winning a quarter (in the event of a tied quarter, each team will receive 0.5 points). In the event of ties in seeding heading into championship day, three tiebreakers will be in place: 1) total point differential; 2) total points allowed; 3) coin flip.

Due to space limitations, the event is not open to the public and will be open only to the media and professional team/league personnel.

A bevy of bigs on Pistons Summer League roster as SVG looks for frontcourt depth

ORLANDO – For Stanley Johnson, it’s about developing those parts of his game that will allow him to take the next leap in a career bristling with promise. For Darrun Hilliard, it will be getting more comfortable and putting himself in position to challenge for a Pistons rotation spot.

For Henry Ellenson, it will be taking the baby steps all teens who suddenly find themselves in a man’s world must experience to set their careers on the right path. For fellow rookie Michael Gbinije, it will be proving his senior-year transition to point guard at Syracuse can carry over to the NBA.

For pretty much everyone else, Summer League for those who’ve gathered under the Pistons umbrella in central Florida is about converting a Hail Mary pass to win a job to the NBA or, more likely, ensuring themselves a job somewhere else where basketball can pay the bills.

And plenty of the players who fall under that category are power forwards or centers – seven of them in addition to Ellenson – as the Pistons audition them to perhaps win a roster spot. Stan Van Gundy said last week the Pistons will add two big men this off-season. One will surely come via trade or free agency and be expected to fit into the rotation, but the other will be mostly for depth in case of injury and probably will be on a veteran minimum contract.

Here’s a look at the players assembled here who began practicing Tuesday in preparation for Saturday’s Summer League opener:

Stanley Johnson – A 6-foot-7 small forward coming off his rookie year with the Pistons as the No. 8 pick in the 2015 NBA draft after a freshman season at Arizona. Johnson, 20, averaged 8.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in 23 minutes a game as a rookie. He averaged 10.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.6 assists in nine February games before a shoulder injury caused him to miss eight games.

Darrun Hilliard – A 6-foot-6 shooting guard drafted 38th overall in the 2015 draft after a four-year career at Villanova. Hilliard, 23, averaged 4.0 points in 38 games and shot 38 percent from the 3-point arc.

Henry Ellenson – A 6-foot-11½ power forward drafted No. 18 by the Pistons in the 2016 draft after averaging 17 points and 9.7 rebounds a game. Ellenson was a five-star recruit ranked the No. 11 prospect in the country coming out of tiny Rice Lake, Wis., in the high school class of 2015.

Michael Gbinije – A 6-foot-7 guard drafted 49th overall by the Pistons in the 2016 NBA draft, Gbinije, 24, began his college career at Duke before transferring to Syracuse for his final three seasons. Transitioned to point guard as a senior and averaged 17.5 points and 4.3 assists in 38 minutes a game for the Orange.

Lorenzo Brown – A 6-foot-5 point guard drafted 52nd overall by Minnesota in 2013 after his junior season at North Carolina State. Brown has played 63 NBA games over the past three seasons for Philadelphia, Minnesota and Phoenix and finished the 2015-16 season with the Pistons.

Kadeem Jack – A 6-foot-9 power forward out of Rutgers who went undrafted in 2015. Jackson spent the past season playing for Fort Wayne of the D-League, averaging 8.7 points and 4.3 rebounds in only 14 minutes a game. Jack participated in a camp for free agents the Pistons held earlier this month in Auburn Hills.

Chavaughn Lewis – A 6-foot-5 shooting guard who went undrafted out of Marist – where he played for Pistons general manager Jeff Bower – in 2015. He averaged 11.5 points a game last season for Juventus in the Lithuanian pro league.

Kammeon Holsey – A 6-foot-8 power forward who went undrafted out of Georgia Tech in 2014, Holsey also played for the Pistons in 2015 Summer League. He averaged 8.2 points and 4.7 rebounds in 21 minutes a game last season for the Grand Rapids Drive, Pistons D-League affiliate.

Derrick Nix – A 6-foot-9 center who went undrafted out of Michigan State in 2013, Nix is a Detroit native and another participant in the free-agent camp the Pistons held in early June. He averaged 8.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 16 minutes in 20 games late in the season while playing in the Latvian pro league.

Brandon Davies – A 6-foot-10 power forward/center who went undrafted out of BYU in 2013 but stuck in the NBA for two seasons with Philadelphia and Brooklyn,
appearing in 78 games with six starts. He led his Italian team, Varese, in scoring (13.3) and rebounding (6.5) in 26 minutes a game last season.

Tekele Cotton – A 6-foot-3 shooting guard who went undrafted out of Wichita State in 2015, Cotton averaged 8.8 points as the starting shooting guard for Ludwigsburg in the German pro league.

Phil Pressey – A 5-foot-11 point guard who went undrafted out of Missouri in 2013, Pressey also participated in the free-agent camp the Pistons hosted earlier this month. He spent two seasons with the Boston Celtics, starting 11 games as a rookie, and played with both Philadelphia and Phoenix last season.

Kaleb Tarczewski – A 7-foot-0 center who went undrafted out of Arizona in the 2016 draft, Tarczewski was a four-year starter who was teammates with Stanley Johnson in 2014-15 under Sean Miller at Arizona. He averaged 9.4 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots as a senior.

Nikola Jovanovic – A 6-foot-11 power forward who went undrafted out of Southern Cal, Jovanovic, 22, is a native of Serbia. He averaged 12.1 points and 7.0 rebounds a game last season for the Trojans.Jordan Bachynski – A 7-foot-2 center who went undrafted out of Arizona State in 2014,

BUCKS BEGIN SUMMER LEAGUE PLAY JULY 8 IN LAS VEGAS

The National Basketball Association released the 2016 Samsung NBA Summer League schedule today, with the Bucks slated to open their Summer League play on Friday, July 8, at 5 p.m. CT against the entry from the newly-crowned NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers. The Bucks will also play opening round games against the NBA D-League Select team (Sunday, July 10, at 3:30 p.m. CT) and Memphis Grizzlies (Monday, July 11, at 3 p.m. CT).

This marks the third consecutive year in which the Bucks and Cavaliers will square off in Las Vegas. The matchup two years ago featured the top two picks from the 2014 NBA Draft – Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker – in the second-most-viewed NBA Summer League telecast game of all time.

For the fourth consecutive year, the event will feature a tournament-style schedule, culminating in the crowning of the Samsung NBA Summer League Champion on Monday, July 18. Each of the 24 participating teams will play three games apiece from July 8-12 before being seeded in the tournament, which tips off on July 13 and runs through the Championship Game on July 18. Each team will play no fewer than five games during the event. In all, the Samsung NBA Summer League will feature 67 games scheduled over 11 days at the COX Pavilion and Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The Bucks will announce their 2016 NBA Summer League roster at a later date.

The Bucks Digital team will be on site in Las Vegas to provide exclusive coverage of Milwaukee’s NBA Summer League team, including coverage of all games, daily updates and behind-the-scenes features with Bucks players. Maodo Lo set to play with Philadelphia 76ers in NBA Summer League

Maodo Lo, CC '16, will be joining the Philadelphia 76ers Summer League teams in both Utah and Las Vegas in July, ESPN’s Fran Franschilla first reported.

Columbia's third-highest all-time scorer, Lo will first head to Utah to play alongside number one overall pick Ben Simmons. Lo will then head to Las Vegas, as he hopes to make the 76ers' training camp roster after going undrafted this past Thursday.

According to LibertyBallers.com’s Max Rappaport, it’s not uncommon for NBA teams to sign players for both the Utah and Las Vegas summer stops. Rappaport explained that Jahlil Okafor, the 76ers’ first-round pick in 2015, and undrafted guard TJ McConnell played in both last year.

Okafor went on to average 17.5 points per game during the regular season, while McConnell earned a roster spot and then started for a portion of the year.

That prospect may seem unlikely for Lo nearly four months before the regular season begins, but Rappaport believes that the Berlin native could have a future with the 76ers beyond his stint in July.

“I think he has a nice shot of making training camp, because our (Philadelphia’s) roster is loaded in the front court right now,” he said. “We can carry 20 for camp, and if he plays well in summer league, I'm sure they'll sign him to one of those 4-year non-guaranteed deals and see if he can cut it in camp.”

Rappaport added that given the Sixers’ struggles from the perimeter, Lo could bring a much-needed ability to stretch the floor at the point guard position. A unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection in 2015-16, Lo owns the program record with 277 career three-pointers field goals.

Utah Summer League takes place from July 4-7 in Salt Lake City. Las Vegas Summer League begins on July 8. Both events will be aired on NBA TV.

NORTHWESTERN'S TRE DEMPS JOINS BULLS' SUMMER LEAGUE ROSTER

From Chicago's Big Ten Team to Chicago's NBA team.

Former Northwestern guard Tre Demps will play for the Bulls in this offseason's Summer League in Las Vegas.

Demps spent four seasons in Evanston and became quite a prolific scorer, averaging 15.7 points per game as a senior last season after averaging 12.5 points per game and 11 points per game during his junior and sophomore seasons, respectively. Last season, Demps connected on 39.8 percent of his field-goal attempts and shot 33.2 percent from behind the 3-point line, averages down from the previous season.

Demps had some incredible scoring performances last season, including a 30-point effort on the road against then-No. 3 Iowa that featured six made 3-pointers, a career high he matched with six triples in a win over Rutgers later in the season.

Demps is the son of New Orleans Pelicans general manager Dell Demps.

2016 Summer League: New Orleans Pelicans building roster around Buddy Hield

The Las Vegas Summer League is merely two weeks away. Dell Demps and the New Orleans Pelicans staff are filling out a roster around Buddy Hield and Cheick Diallo to take the floor on July 8th. The first game, against an absolutely stacked Los Angeles Lakers squad, is scheduled to start at 9:30 PM central and will be televised on ESPN. Across the floor will be a collection of draft picks including second overall selection Brandon Ingram and 2015 second overall selection D'Angelo Russell.

Larry Drew II was a star for the Pelicans last summer and should be tasked with getting Buddy Hield open looks behind the arc. He spent last season with Monaco in France.

Simmons headlines Sixers summer league roster

SALT LAKE CITY – Ben Simmons, Timothe Luwawu, T.J. McConnell, Richaun Holmes and Christian Wood are the headliners of the 76ers summer-league roster.

The 15-member team will compete in the Utah Jazz Summer on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Then the Sixers will travel to Las Vegas to participate in the NBA Summer League. Their preliminary games are on July 9, 10 and 12. The tournament format runs July 13-18.

Simmons, a power forward out of Louisiana State, was the first overall pick in the June 23 NBA draft. Luwawu , a shooting guard from France, was taken 24th overall. Meanwhile point guard McConnell and power forwards Holmes and Christian Wood were rookies on last season’s team. Wood is an unrestricted free agent.

They will be joined by former another former Sixer in James Nunnally, along with Bryon Allen, Javon McCrea, Alex Caruso, Maodo Lo , James Webb III, Kwame Vaughn, Levi Randolph, Shawn Long and Tomasz Gielo.

Billy Lange will be the head coach in Utah, while Lloyd Pierce will be the head man in Las Vegas.

SPURS’ 2016 SUMMER LEAGUE ROSTER TAKING SHAPE


The San Antonio Spurs will take part in the Utah and Las Vegas Summer Leagues from July 4-18. Though the first game doesn’t begin until July 4, the Spurs’ Summer League team(s) is already beginning to take shape, according to multiple outlets.

hqdefaultNikola Milutinov, 7’0″ center – Milutinov’s name was reported to be part of the Spurs’ SL team when he withdrew from the Serbian National team in Olympic Qualifiers, as their head coach said Milutinov informed him he wouldn’t be playing for Serbia in order to play with the Spurs’ Summer League team.

The Spurs drafted Milutinov in the first round last year. He’s currently under contract with Olympiacos Piraeus, where he started 13 of their 24 Euroleague games. Milutinov’s participation in SL could be like last year, when Livio Jean-Charles played in five games, but he remained overseas the next season with ASVEL, or maybe, the Spurs might be looking to bring Milutinov over after SL. Those two situations remain to be seen.

Ryan Arcidiacono, 6’3″ point guard – Darren Wolfson of KSTP.com was the first to report Arcidiacono and the Spurs came to an agreement on a partially guaranteed deal. Arcidiacono played all four seasons at Villanova, where he capped off his senior season by winning the National Championship. At age 22, Arcidiacono averaged 32.1 minutes, 12.5 points and 4.2 assists in his final season at Villanova.

Angel Rodriguez, 5’11” point guard – Sportando.com reported Rodriguez will play with the Spurs’ Summer League team. Rodriguez finished his last two seasons of college playing at the University of Miami, where he averaged 12.6 points and 4.5 assists last season with the U.

Bryn Forbes, 6’3″ shooting guard – Chris Solari of GreenAndWhite.com reported Friday Forbes confirmed he would be joining the Spurs at Summer League. Forbes played his junior and senior season at Michigan State University, where he averaged 14.4 points and 1.5 assists last season for the Spartans.

Cady Lalanne, 6’9″ forward/center – International reporter David Pick reported Lalanne will join the Spurs’ Summer League team for a second straight summer. In 2015, Lalanne was drafted by the Spurs out of Massachusets with the 55th pick in the second round. He played on both the Spurs’ Utah and Las Vegas Summer League teams, then he signed for a full season to remain in the system and develop with the Spurs’ D-League affiliate Austin Spurs. Below were the 24 year old forwards stats from last summer’s Summer League and this past season with Austin.

Utah SL: 25.7 minutes, 10.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, played in all 3 games

Las Vegas SL: 16.4 minutes, 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, played in all 7 games

Austin Spurs season: 26.1 minutes, 13.3 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 blocks, played in 50 games. One interesting stat is that Austin experimented with making Lalanne a stretch 4, as he attempted 3.6 threes per game and made almost a league average percentage of 33.7% of his outside looks.

Alex Kirk, 7’0″ center – According to Alex Kennedy of BasketballInsiders.com, Kirk will only play in the Spurs’ first three games at the Utah Summer League. Kirk went undrafted in 2014 out of New Mexico, when he signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2014-15 season, but he only played in five NBA games, as he was a frequent visitor to the D-League. He was part of a multi-team trade to the New York Knicks later in the season, and then he was waived by the Knicks.

This past season, Kirk played in Italy with Pistola Basket, where he averaged 16.3 points, 7.6 rebounds and he shot 34.8% from three, while playing in 33 Italian league games at 30.9 minutes per game.

Gromovs, 6’11” center – Sportando.com reported Gromovs would be joining the Spurs’ SL team. Gromovs is a 21-year old Latvian center who withdrew from the 2014 NBA Draft and played with Jurmalas Fenikss in the Latvia LBL this past season. He averaged 17.6 minutes, 9.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 21 games for Jurmalas.

While most might assume 2016 first round Spurs draftee Dejounte Murray would also play with the Spurs’ SL team, that’s not entirely the case, according to Spurs General Manager R.C. Buford Thursday evening. Due to how the Spurs must sequence the signing of free agent contracts, Murray’s deal might not be signed before the team heads out to Utah or Vegas.

Indiana Pacers Announce Their Orlando Summer League Roster

The Indiana Pacers will be sending a few familiar faces to the Orlando Summer League.

The last bit of NBA basketball you’ll get to see until October is right around the corner as the NBA’s summer leagues are about to get underway. On Tuesday, the Indiana Pacers announced their roster.

Along with 2nd Round draft pick Georges Niang, they are sending Rakeem Christmas, Glenn Robinson III, Shayne Whittington and Joseph Young to the Orlando Summer League.

Fort Wayne Mad Ants guard Stephan Hicks is headed there as well and Popeye Jones have head coaching duties.

Last year we got our first glimpses of what Myles Turner could do as he impressed in his Summer League games by averaging 18.7 points and 4.3 blocks a game. Joseph Young was impressive too with 22.5 points a game.

Wizards 2016 NBA Summer League Schedule released

The NBA has released the Wizards’ 2016 NBA Summer League schedule. Like in past years, the Wizards will play in the Las Vegas Summer League. They will play three games against a group of opponents before entering into a tournament. The Wizards and all other Las Vegas Summer League teams will play at least five games during Summer League

NBA Summer League 2016: Previewing Biggest Games on Las Vegas Schedule

With the dust still settling from an unpredictable draft, the NBA turns its attention toward Las Vegas for this year's summer league to see what some of 2016's top rookies can do on the court in a professional setting.

The schedule begins July 8 and runs for 10 days, with 24 teams sending first-year players and veterans who hope to showcase their skills. Last year's event turned into a showcase for Karl-Anthony Towns, who played in the league before winning Rookie of the Year.

The entire 67-game schedule is available at NBA.com, but for the purposes of this particular discussion, these are the matchups that fans must go out of their way to catch.

There was a time when a matchup between the 76ers and Lakers would have been must-see television, as they were two of the best franchises in the NBA and would play a key role in figuring out the championship picture.

The mighty have fallen hard, especially in recent years, but the additions of Ben Simmons in Philadelphia and Brandon Ingram in Los Angeles have brought hope back to two of the league's most storied teams.

Simmons and Ingram's first head-to-head matchup also presents an opportunity for fans and analysts to see if the Sixers made the correct choice with the No. 1 overall pick.

While Simmons was regarded as the consensus top talent in the 2016 class, it was far from unanimous. ESPN's Jay Bilas believes Ingram possesses a lot of skills to become one of the NBA's best players.

“It’s ridiculous how talented [Ingram] is,” Bilas said during an appearance on CBS Sports Radio's Tiki and Tierney show. “He reminds you a little of Kevin Durant. He doesn’t score quite like that, but he can score.”

ESPN Stats & Info noted that analytics point to Ingram being the better player than Simmons over the first five yeNo one is going to accuse the 76ers of making a mistake on the basis of one summer-league game—or at least they shouldn't, but ridiculous in-the-moment hot takes happen all the time—but Simmons does feel like a No. 1 pick who is under a more intense microscope because LSU didn't make the NCAA tournament last year.

That's not Simmons' fault so much as the team around him wasn't good enough, but the world we live in requires one player to do anything and everything if he is to be regarded as one of the most talented in the world.

Ingram isn't without flaws either, though he faces less pressure by virtue of being the No. 2 pick. Playing in Los Angeles with the burden of being Kobe Bryant's heir apparent is another type of pressure, though.

One summer-league game will not define the career of Simmons or Ingram, but it is a nice showcase for the NBA's top two draft picks in their first meeting. ars of their respective careers:

The first game of the 2016 summer-league slate features the reigning NBA champion Cleveland Cavaliers, but the real interest in this game comes from the Milwaukee Bucks.

The Cavaliers largely punted the draft, which is understandable since they are a veteran-laden team with a full roster and are trying to compete for championships right now, though they did obtain the rights to Kay Felder with the 54th pick.

The Bucks, on the other hand, have an incoming rookie class that left a lot of people scratching their heads. Thon Maker, who was taken with the 10th overall pick, is one of the great unknowns in this class because he didn't play major college basketball last year.

Instead, after graduating high school in 2015, Maker opted to play a postgraduate year at the Athlete Institute of Ontario.

Some analysts destroyed the Bucks for their entire draft, with Andrew Sharp of Sports Illustrated giving them a grade of F:

There's a way to see Maker as a case of the Bucks doubling down on the weirdness of their roster and putting together the most science–fiction lineup possible, and maybe that's how it'll play out, but I don't see it. Maker should have been a second rounder, not a top 10 pick. He has raw tools, but not many skills, and this week there were allegations that he's three years older than he claims.

For the record, Jake Fischer of Sports Illustrated reported multiple teams left Maker out of the first-round mix and cited multiple sources as saying his actual age is somewhere between 21 and 23, not the listed 19 years old.

Maker's scouting reports tended to be all over the place. Ben Golliver of Sports Illustrated summed up the major negatives around him:

Even though he usually plays hard, the game often goes on around him due to his lack of awareness and limited polish. He’s the polar opposite of someone like Kristaps Porzingis from a feel standpoint. The list goes on from there: his lack of strength will be a serious issue for at least the next few years, and his weak handle, shaky shot and somewhat clumsy mobility make it hard for him to work as a stretch big in the short term. He’s also not exactly menacing in the paint or defending the rim at this point.

One anonymous NBA scout in the same Sports Illustrated piece said if his team were to draft Maker, "[We'd tell him to] go spend two or three years in Europe or in the D-League. In my opinion, I don't even think he's a roster guy next year. At some point, I feel like it's just been a hype machine."

Maker became a household name two years ago as a sophomore in high school thanks to a mixtape and Stephen Douglas of the Big Lead labeling him a "cross between [Durant] and Kevin Garnett."

Those are unfair and unrealistic expectations for any player, especially since the only traits Maker seems to share with Durant and Garnett is that he's a long and lanky basketball player who once showed some aptitude for hitting shots away from the basket.

Maker can quiet some of the noise about himself and Milwaukee's selection of him by performing well when he gets on the court. He will get a chance in the summer league's first game.

In the interest of full disclosure, I did want to find another intriguing matchup not involving the Lakers since I already discussed Ingram and what the team will be hoping for during summer league.

Yet as I was going through the schedule, Buddy Hield was one player who I wanted to highlight because he turned into one of college basketball's biggest stars last year.

I would have picked a matchup between the Pelicans and Chicago Bulls if it were on the schedule, since Hield and Denzel Valentine accrued most of the major National Player of the Year awards in college last season.

Unfortunately, if Hield and Valentine do square off, it will have to come when the playoffs begin on July 13. A matchup of Hield vs. Ingram on the opening day of this year's summer league isn't a bad alternative, since they represent two ends of the college basketball spectrum.

Ingram was the freshman sensation who led one of college basketball's pre-eminent programs to the Sweet 16 before losing to Oregon.

Hield was an unheralded high school player who was rated as a 3-star prospect by 247Sports coming out of Sunrise Christian Academy and improved his game in each of his four years at Oklahoma. His college career ended in miserable fashion, as Oklahoma lost to Villanova 95-51 in the Final Four.

Hield had some erratic performances last year, including that Final Four loss when he scored nine points on 4-of-12 shooting in 36 minutes, but the good far outweighed the bad.

Matt Borcas of The Ringer pinpointed the things that got lost in Hield's game by scouts and analysts throughout this draft process:

The read on Buddy is that, at 22, he’ll be hard-pressed to develop into anything beyond the pure scorer that he was on campus. It’s always hard for hero-ball artists in college to conform to being role players in the NBA, and Buddy has become just another name expected to be called toward the middle of the lottery. In the whirlwind of technical analysis that precedes the draft, the jaw-dropping incredibleness of his senior campaign has been lost. And that’s a damn shame.

Success at the college level does not automatically guarantee success in the NBA. Yet Hield was getting knocked in some circles because he played all four years at college, which made him older than a typical top-10 pick, but it ignores the fact he took time to hone his craft before becoming a professional.

Every scout in the world loves youth and upside, but there's something to be said for a player who took the time to develop physically and emotionally before carrying the burden of being a high draft pick.

Hield isn't going to turn into Stephen Curry; however, he is going to be a good NBA player for a long time, and the Pelicans will benefit from his outside shooting.

Brooklyn Nets filling out summer league roster, sign centers Henry Sims, Egidijus Mockevicius

Shams Charania of Yahoo! Sports reports the Nets have signed 6'10" Evansville big man Egidijus Mockevicius to play in the Las Vegas Summer League. He's the third undrafted rookie, after Yogi Ferrell, the Indiana point guard, and Beau Beech, the North Florida swingman. The team has also signed Josh Magette, the D-League leader in assists and steals.

The native of Lithuania played center for Evansville, averaging 15.7 points and 14.0 rebounds, the most in Division I, shooting 63.7 percent this past season. He's a pure center, not taking a single three pointer his entire four year career. He's been a member of Lithuania's national youth teams.

Here's what Draft Express wrote about him...

Measured at 6'9" without shoes, with a 237 pound frame, at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, Mockevicius has just-decent size for a center and possess great length with a 7'0" wingspan. He's not an elite athlete either, as he lacks a high level of agility and lateral quickness, but he works hard to get up and down the floor quickly. He is active and aggressive on the court, rarely taking plays off and always playing with high energy.

At 14.4 defensive rebounds per-40, Mockevicius ranks among the most dominant defensive rebounders in college basketball history, easily finishing #1 in the nation in that category. He's committed to tracking down every loose ball.

Mockevicius spoke to DX in early June about his NBA dream.

Besides Mockevicius, Ferrell and Beech, the Nets are expected to send Isaiah Whitehead, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Chris McCullough and,Sean Kilpatrick to Las Vegas. Games begin July 9. Caris LeVert will not play, recovering from foot surgery.

Later Sunday, Alex Kennedy reported J.J. O'Brien, a 6'7" small forward who's played for the University of Utah, the Jazz and their D-League team, will play for the Nets in Las Vegas.

The Atlanta Hawks summer league roster takes shape, includes Bembry and Cordinier

ong with the news that the Atlanta Hawks were going to try to get a face-to-face meeting with Kevin Durant today, and possibly pursue Dwight Howard if that fails, we got a better look at what the summer league roster would look like.

We already expected Lamar Patterson and Edy Tavares to participate, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Chris Vivlamore confirmed today that along with Taurean Prince, rookies DeAndre Bembry and Isaia Cordinier would be participating as well.

Some other additions were made today as well, per Vivlamore:

The Hawks team will also include Kevin Pangos (Gonzaga) and Diamon Simpson (St. Mary's), both of who played in Spain last year, and Darington Hobson (New Mexico), who played in the NBA Development League last year.

Warriors Announce 2016 NBA Summer League Roster and Schedule

The Golden State Warriors have announced the team’s roster and schedule for the 2016 Samsung NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Warriors Assistant Coach Jarron Collins will coach the team in Golden State’s 11th summer in Vegas, which tips off on Saturday, July 9.

Golden State’s Summer League roster will feature UNLV product Patrick McCaw, the 38th pick in last week’s NBA Draft who the Warriors acquired in a draft-night trade, and center Ognjen Kuzmic, a member of the Warriors’ 2015 NBA Championship team who played professionally this past season in Greece. Damian Jones, the Warriors’ first round pick (#30) in last week’s draft, will not see any action at Summer League due to a recent pectoral injury and surgery.

Fresh off their second consecutive trip to the NBA Finals, the Warriors will open the Summer League slate against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday, July 9 (7:30 p.m.) in a game that will be televised live on ESPN2. Following the opener, Golden State is set to face the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday, July 11 (7:30 p.m.), which will be televised live on ESPN, and the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday, July 12 (5:30 p.m.), which will be live-streamed on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app.

Following those three preliminary round games, the NBA Summer League once again features a tournament-style schedule that will culminate in the crowning of an NBA Summer League Champion on Monday, July 18. Each team is guaranteed to play at least five games, with the two teams that reach the Championship Game playing as many as eight contests. The Warriors captured the inaugural Summer League Championship in 2013 and have amassed more wins at the annual event in Las Vegas than any other team, holding an all-time Vegas Summer League record of 34-19 (.642).

ESPN will present all 67 games from Las Vegas across ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN3, ESPNU and WatchESPN. In total, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will broadcast 25 games, including all four quarterfinal games, both semifinal games and the Championship Game. Fans can also log on to ESPN3, where all 67 games will be live-streamed. NBA TV will also present a full slate of Samsung NBA Summer League action, televising a total of 30 games. Additionally, all of Golden State’s Summer League games can be heard on an audio-only stream on warriors.com and on the Warriors Mobile App.

Prior to arriving in Vegas, the Warriors Summer League squad will hold a three-day mini-camp in Santa Cruz at Kaiser Permanente Arena, the home of the team’s NBA D-League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.
