    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Westgate Super Contest (1,727 entrants-- prize pool is $2.5M)
six most popular picks in Week 12 season record: 34-31-2

    6) Giants -3 (385)-- Washington won its last four home games.

    5) Patriots -3 (407)-- Lot of opinions on this game, both ways.

    4) Browns -2.5 (409)-- Not a lot of faith in Matt Schaub as Ravens' QB.

    3) Broncos +3 (415)-- I'm guessing this game will get huge TV ratings.

    2) Steelers +3.5 (531)-- Roethlisberger's first-ever game in Seattle.

    1) Buccaneers +3.5 (567)-- Not lot of faith in 40-year Colt QB Hasselbeck.

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday......

    13) Ohio State 42, Michigan 13-- Buckeyes ran ball down Michigan's throats for 369 yards; no one complained about the play-calling.

Interesting that Ohio State put its co-offensive coordinators up in booth today, instead of one upstairs and one on the field-- maybe Ezekiel Elliott was right last week-- there were changes made and they had positive results.

    12) Stanford 38, Notre Dame 36-- Cardinal lost 38-36 at home to Oregon two weeks ago, returns favor here vs Notre Dame, knocking them out of playoff talk. Looks like there might not be much drama next week-- Big 14 winner will be the fourth team, to go to playoff with Clemson-Alabama-Oklahoma.

Unless Alabama loses to Florida, then Ohio State could weasel its way back into the picture, which would cause chaos.

    11) Alabama 29, Auburn 13-- I laugh when people talk some about some other series being the biggest rivalry in college sports. Someone poisoned a freakin' tree in Auburn because of this rivalry-- who poisons a tree because of football?!?!?!? I didn't even know it was possible to poison a tree-- you have to be a sick bastard to do that.

    10) Southern Mississippi 58, Louisiana Tech 24-- Golden Eagles were 4-32 the last three years; now they're in the C-USA championship game- solid work done by coach Tood Monken. Hopefully he won't bolt for greener pa$ture$.

    9) Oklahoma 58, Oklahoma State 23-- Big X games are like Arenaball, in that any defensive stop is like breaking serve in tennis-- doesn't happen much. This game was 44-20 at the half as OSU's season crumbles with two bad losses after a 10-0 start.

    8) Indiana 54, Purdue 36-- Hoosiers are 6-6, going bowling for first time since 2007; they've lost games when scoring 52-41 points ths year and gave Michigan/Ohio State fits this year in tough losses. Their bowl game will be fun to watch.

    7) Memphis 63, SMU 0-- Tiger QB Paxton Lynch had seven TD passes-- at the half. Memphis won a game today but lost its coach-- Justin Fuente is off to Virginia Tech to replace Frank Beamer. Its too bad a team like Memphis having a breakthrough 9-3 season can't totally enjoy it because the coach leaves, but it is a business.

    6) Cincinnati 19, East Carolina 16-- Credit to Bearcats' players/coaches; they were down 51-3 at the half last week, in a game they were favored to win, but they sucked it up and came back this week and won a tough road game. Good for them.

    5) Louisville 38, Kentucky 24-- Wildcats led this game 21-0, were up 24-7 at half; the good news for Kentucky fans-- basketball team hasn't lost yet.Football team lost six of last seven games after a 4-1 start for second year in row.

    4) USC 40, UCLA 21-- Jim Mora is now 3-1 vs USC; weird thing is that in those four games, Trojans had a different head coach in all four. Freshman QB Rosen is very good for UCLA but he got rattled by blitzing today and starting throwing off his back foot,

    3) Michigan State 55, Penn State 16-- Hopefully Texans coach Bill O'Brien will write a book when he retires and explain why he left Penn State, because the current coach James Franklin isn't as good a coach as he is-- O'Brien's departure hurt Penn State a lot. Michigan State-Iowa is your Big 14 championship game next week.

    2) Florida State 27, Florida 2-- Florida State has to be a little relieved that LSU got wise and didn't fire Les Miles, because Jimbo Fisher was probably their first target, and LSU has more re$ource$ than Florida State. As for Florida, they can cause chaos next week if they beat Alabama in the SEC championship game, but they've won a lot of games this year for a team with a terrible offense.

    1) LSU 19, Texas A&M 7-- Players carried Les Miles off the field after the game, fans chanted his name and the school apparently recanted on firing him and will keep him. Miles is 111-32, won a national title and you're firing him? Why? The next coach could easily fare a lot worse- someone saw the light and kept a successful coach.

Side note: Auburn fired Gene Chizik two years after he won a national title when he had Cam Newton at QB. Maybe boosters in the SEC are just insane rich people.

NBA roundup: Warriors keep rolling with 18th straight win

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Brandon Rush buried three 3-pointers in a third-quarter runaway Saturday night as the Golden State Warriors recorded an 18th straight season-opening win, 120-101 over the rival Sacramento Kings

Stephen Curry dropped in three 3-pointers on a 19-point night and Draymond Green recorded the franchise's first back-to-back triple-double in 51 years with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists.

The last Warriors player to record triple-doubles in consecutive games had been Hall of Fame center Wilt Chamberlain in 1964.

              Cavaliers 90, Nets 88

CLEVELAND -- LeBron James' runner in the lane with one second left allowed Cleveland to defeat a struggling Brooklyn team.

James and Kevin Love each scored 26 points and the Cavs remained unbeaten at home (9-0), but it didn't come easy against.

Jarrett Jack's desperation heave at the buzzer from well beyond half court hit the back of the rim.

              Spurs 108, Hawks 88

SAN ANTONIO -- Forward Kawhi Leonard poured in 22 points and six San Antonio players scored in double-figures as the Spurs won their fifth consecutive game and remain undefeated at home.

Leonard, who did most of his damage with 15 points in the first half, led the Spurs in scoring for the sixth straight game.

LaMarcus Aldridge and reserve guard Patty Mills added 13 points apiece for San Antonio, while reserve Manu Ginobili scored 12 points, Tony Parker hit for 11 points and Tim Duncan tallied 10 points and grabbed a season-high 18 rebounds for the Spurs, who are entrenched atop the NBA Western Conference's Southwest Division.

              Raptors 84, Wizards 82

WASHINGTON -- Kyle Lowry scored 27 points and Cory Joseph sank the winning 3-pointer with 0.3 of a second remaining as the Raptors downed the skidding Wizards.

Despite a horrid shooting performance from John Wall and no field goals in the final 4:23, the Wizards led 82-81 with five seconds remaining.

DeMar DeRozan scored 23 points but played the role of passer on the Raptors' final possession. Driving to the right baseline, he fed an open Joseph in the left corner. The 3-pointer gave Toronto its only lead of the second half and handed Washington its fourth straight loss.

              Mavericks 92, Nuggets 81

DALLAS -- Dallas' Deron Williams hit four 3-pointers and led all scorers with 22 points, his second-highest scoring game of the season in an easy win over Denver.

After shooting better than 50 percent in the first half, the Nuggets went scoreless in the first 8:55 of the period and finished it with just two field goals and five points.

Denver's five points set a Dallas franchise record for the lowest total in a quarter by an opponent.

              Jazz 101, Pelicans 87

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah used a balanced effort to neutralize Anthony Davis and post the win.

Alec Burks scored 21 points to lead the Jazz to just their third home win in five tries. Burks, who also had five rebounds and four assists, scored nine points in the decisive fourth quarter.

Davis scored 14 of his team's 16 points in the first quarter. He finished with a game-high 36 points and 11 rebounds.

              Trail Blazers 108, Lakers 96

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum combined for 57 points to lead Portland past Los Angeles.

Lillard scored 29 points and McCollum added 28 for the Trail Blazers, who beat the Lakers for the second time this season.

Kobe Bryant scored 21 points while Jordan Clarkson had 19 for the Lakers, who lost their fifth straight game.

Betting the Over in Bucks' games has been on fire

The Milwaukee Bucks' defense has not been what it was supposed to be this season and Over bettors have reaped the reward. The Bucks own the top Over record in the NBA at 11-5 heading into Sunday's meeting with the Charlotte Hornets.

Furthermore, the Over has cashed in eight-straight Bucks games, capped with Friday's 114-90 loss to the Orlando Magic.

The Bucks ranked eighth in the NBA last season with 97.4 opponents points per game, but this season has seen a real drop off as the club heads into Sunday's game ranked 27th in the league with 106.1 opponents points per.

Milwaukee visits the Hornets Sunday afternoon with books offering a total of 201.5 after the number came down from the opening 202.
