    Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

-- Warriors 111, Lakers 77-- How did the Lakers get this bad? Golden State is now 16-0 and appears to be a juggernaut.

-- Marquette 78, Arizona State 73 OT-- Four Sun Devils fouled out.

-- Indiana Hoosiers lost to Wake Forest on Maui Monday; apparently they had a practice after they lost. Way to take the fun out of the trip, coach.

-- Louisiana Tech 82, Ohio State 74-- Buckeyes lost to Tex-Arlington last week.

    -- Kansas 92, UCLA 73-- Game was 59-33 at the half. 59. to. 33.

-- My favorite two college basketball analysts on TV: Bill Raftery, Doug Gottlieb. ESPN let both of them walk. Not a good move, especially with Gottlieb- Raftery wanted to do Big East games, so he went to FS1 with the Big East.

    **********

Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Top 8, bottom 5 teams in NFL.......

    32) Browns-- Johnny Manziel is either the dumbest person on this planet, or angling for a trade to the Cowboys. I'm thinking he'd like to go back to Texas.

    31) 49ers-- Colin Kaepernick is 27-20 as an NFL starter; he led the Niners to a Super Bowl three years ago, but they're getting rid of him. Seems like once they got their new publicly funded stadium, management stopped caring.

    30) Chargers-- In last eight games, San Diego started one drive in enemy territory; their opponents started 15. Hard to win that way. They have a QB heading nto his mid-30's and don't know where they'll be playing home games next year.

    29) Saints-- Allowing 31.5 ppg; already fired their defensive coordinator. Struggling team with an aging star QB, lot like the Chargers.

    28) Rams-- 25% of the NFL is 4-6; Rams probably aren't the worst of the eight, but their offense is so totally fouled up, despite having two legit weapons in Gurley and Austin. This isn't all Foles' fault; guy had 27 TDs, two INTs two years ago- if you protect him at all and give him a decent tight end, he will be a productive player.

As if this season couldn't get worse, WR Stedman Bailey was shot twice ithis week, in the head and hip; he is currently under a 4-game suspenion, so he was in Florida. Get well soon and stay the hell out of south Florida.

    8) Seahawks-- Was tempted to put surging Chiefs into this slot, but have feeling that Seattle will play better with the finish line in sight.

    7) Broncos-- I picked against Denver last week, but Osweiler did just enough to win in Chicago, in his first NFL start; he managed the game well and Chicago was awful in the red zone on offense. Broncos-Patriots this week; should be interesting.

    6) Vikings-- Mike Zimmer didn't get an NFL head coaching job until he was 58; Bruce Arians didn't get one until he was 60. NFL teams aren't hiring the right people.

    5) Packers-- Aaron Rodgers is really, really good; amazing that he didn't get a college scholarship out of high school. His coach at Cal, Jeff Tedford was a head coach in the CFL this year but wants to get back in the college game. Someone should hire him.

    4) Bengals-- Curious to see the reaction Bengals get from the home crowd this week, in a should-win game against the Rams. They booed Andy Dalton at the All-Star Game this summer, at the celebrity softball game. It is a cynical fanbase.

    3) Cardinals-- I enjoy coach Arians' aggressive approach; they throw the ball down the field and they blitz, even when they're ahead. They play to win the game.

    2) Panthers-- In the 49 years of the Super Bowl era, 15 teams have been 10-0; nine of those teams made the Super Bowl- they went 6-3 in those games. Carolina does not have great receivers; Newton is making them look better than they are.

    1) Patriots-- 15 of 32 NFL teams are 5-5 or 4-6; not sure if New England is that good or if the league just stinks. 86 days until pitchers and catchers report. 112 days until the NCAA tournament starts. Don't forget, 2016 is a leap year.

NBA roundup: Warriors set record for best start

OAKLAND, Calif. -- The Golden State Warriors became the first team to start an NBA season 16-0 Tuesday night, blowing out the Los Angeles Lakers basically from the opening tip en route to a 111-77 victory over their California rival.

The 16th consecutive win allowed the Warriors to break a tie with the 1948-49 Washington Capitols and 1993-94 Houston Rockets for best start in league history.

Point guard Stephen Curry poured in 24 points and power forward Draymond Green contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocked shots in 30 minutes as the Warriors won their 20th straight regular-season game dating back to last April, becoming just the sixth team ever to do so.

Only three teams have won more than 20 NBA games in a row. The Warriors' next target will be the 22 in a row recorded by the Houston Rockets during the 2007-08 season.

The Lakers hold the NBA record for most consecutive wins with 33, set in the 1971-72 season. The Miami Heat won 27 straight in 2012-13.

Lakers star Kobe Bryant was held to four points on 1-for-14 shooting. It was his lowest output of the season, having scored in double figures in each of his previous 10 contests.

            Pacers 123, Wizards 106

WASHINGTON -- Forward Paul George scored a season-high 40 points as the surging Pacers sank a franchise-record 19 3-pointers in their win.

Forward C.J. Miles established a career high with 32 points and combined with George to dominate from distance. Indiana shot 73.1 percent (19 of 26) from beyond the arc. Miles and George combined to make their first 11 3-point attempts.

Indiana has won nine of its last 11 games, including three straight. The loss ended Washington's three-game winning streak.

Guard Gary Neal scored 23 points and guard Bradley Beal had 20 for the Wizards (6-5).

            Hawks 121, Celtics 97

ATLANTA -- Forward Paul Millsap led seven Hawks in double figures with 25 points, and point guard Jeff Teague added 16 points and nine assists for Atlanta.

Atlanta (10-6) overcame another big night from red-hot Boston guard Avery Bradley. Bradley scored 25 points to lead the Celtics, and he is averaging 22.4 points in his last five games.

The Hawks took an 81-73 lead into the fourth quarter before forward Mike Scott converted a three-point play off of nice pass from point guard Dennis Schroder to put the Hawks up 11 with nine minutes to play.

            Grizzlies 110, Mavericks 96

MEMPHIS -- Guard Mike Conley scored 21 points and forward Jeff Green added 19 to lead Memphis, which played its third straight game without forward Zach Randolph, who has a knee injury.

Green, who returned to the starting lineup five games ago, scored eight of his points in the third quarter as the Grizzlies turned a 10-point halftime lead into a 22-point advantage. Memphis led by as many as 25 early in the fourth quarter.

J.J. Barea and Raymond Felton each scored 16 off the bench to lead the Mavericks. Dirk Nowitzki finished with a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds.

            Clippers 111, Nuggets 94

DENVER -- Center DeAndre Jordan had 18 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, and forward Blake Griffin also had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to help the Clippers end a three-game losing streak.

Guard Chris Paul had 15 points and 10 assists and guard J.J. Redick had 12 of his 16 points in the first half.

Forward Danilo Gallinari led Denver (6-9) with 20 points and a career-high 18 rebounds, all on the defensive end. Center Nikola Jokic added 16 points.

Guard Jamal Crawford's 3-pointer from halfcourt beat the halftime buzzer to give Los Angeles an 83-72 lead.

            Bulls 93, Trail Blazers 88

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Bulls sank six straight free throws over the final 15.9 seconds to close out the road victory.

Guard Jimmy Butler -- who sank the first four of those foul shots -- led Chicago (9-4) with 22 points, while guard Derrick Rose added 17 points and center Pau Gasol collected 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Guard Damian Lillard had 19 points, a season-high 10 rebounds and eight assists for Portland (6-10), but he made only 4 of 22 shots from the field. Guard CJ McCollum added 18 points and center Mason Plumlee had 11 points and a season-high 17 rebounds for the Blazers.

NBA Minnesota Timberwolves - Atlanta Hawks

                Recommendation: OVER 205

                Odds: 1.909

                Bookmaker: Pinnaclesports / Sportmarket

Minnesota surprised Atlanta earlier this month, winning 117-107 on the road. It’s the third straight time and 4 out of last 5 when these teams entertain the public with high scoring games. I fully expect tonight’s game to follow suit and this total line seem a bit low by a couple of points.

Reigning Rookie of the Year Andrew Wiggins played well in the first game in the series and is very hot lately. He is a superstar in the making and nothing could possibly prevent him, health issues aside, from fulfilling his potential in a few seasons. Ricky Rubio is also doing tremendous job in distributing the ball and adding assists to his tally, facilitating Wolves’ offensive rhythm. Last but not least, rookie center Towns is also making headlines with his contributions on both sides of the floor.

Atlanta weakness is the rebounding as always, so Minny could rely on a few second chance points on the shoulders of Towns and Garnett. Hawks strength at the other hand lies in smooth ball movement, leading to many uncontested / easy shots and they are usually very effective at converting these.

Here’s hoping that both teams play their usual game then, it should be enough.
