Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Sunday.......

13) Broncos 17, Bears 15-- Brock Osweiler is first QB in NFL history to get his first win on his birthday; he managed game well enough, and Denver defense stopped the game-tying 2-point play with 0:24 left. Why doesn't the media call Peyton Manning out for not being with his teammates? Andrew Luck was in Atlanta with the Colts.

12) Colts 24, Falcons 21-- George Allen always said "More games are lost than won." Falcons gave this game to Indy- they were up 21-14 with 10:20 to play, had ball deep in their own territory but Ryan just threw a horrible, terrible pick-6 that tied the game. Falcons are 1-4 since starting season 5-0 and they haven't played a division road game yet-- they play those three road games in consecutive weeks next month.

11) Panthers 44, Redskins 16-- Carolina scored five TDs in this game; three of them were on drives of 31-24-11 yards, as Washington turned ball over five times- they never got inside the Panthers' red zone. A key to winning is getting easier scores, just like in any other sport. Carolina is 10-0 but is an underrated team.

10) Lions 18, Raiders 13-- Detroit scored a safety with 7:31 left and never gave the ball back to Oakland, running 13 plays for 66 yards after the free kick and taking a knee inside Raiders' five-yard line as game ended. Lions are first team in NFL history to score exactly 18 points in consecutive games.

9) Cowboys 24, Dolphins 14-- Dallas held Fish to 210 yards, scored a defensive TD, ran ball for 166 yards, snapping 7-game skid in process as Romo returned. Dallas was 7-14 on 3rd down and won despite losing field position by 11 yards. Dolphins' next coach is going to have to decide whether to hitch his career on Tannehill's ability to be an NFL QB-- didn't work out too well for the last coach.

8) Ravens 16, Rams 13-- You know when you watch a great game, someone says "It is a shame either side had to lose"? This game was quite the opposite as in, "Too bad either team had to win", just an awful offensive game. Rams gagged this game away in epic fashion and Baltimore lost Flacco for year with a torn ACL. Rams must go back to Nick Foles at QB-- they also need to find an offensive line one of these decades.

7) College basketball doings for a Sunday:
Duke 86, Georgetown 84-- Duke is 19-3 in last 22 games in NYC.
Purdue 85, Florida 70-- Boilermakers have pair of solid Twin Towers.
Oregon 73, Valparaiso 67-- Crusaders are angling for at-large consideration.
Miami 85, Butler 75-- Finals of Puerto Rico tournament
East Tennessee State 69, Georgia Tech 68-- Biggest upset of the day.
St Mary's 78, Stanford 61-- First win in five tries for WCC against the Pac-12.

6) Texans 24, Jets 17-- Houston won four of last five games after a 1-4 start; they're tied for first place in AFC South despite starting three different QBs in ten games. As for the Jets, they're +12 in turnovers in their five wins, -10 in five losses. As for Ryan Fitzpatrick, he has now started 47 games the last four years, while playing for a new team every year-- what a unique career he has had.

5) Buccaneers 45, Eagles 17-- I have a buddy who has Eagles season tickets; he has to be wondering why Jeff Lurie gave Chip Kelly the keys to the franchise? At 4-6, the Eagles are 2-3 at home, lost three of last four games overall and gave up 521 yards to a Buccaneer offense that had scored two TDs on 20 drives in its previous two games. Sad thing is, Kelly could still get paid a ton to go back to college right now. Why?

4) Chiefs 33, Chargers 3-- KC has won four games in row, San Diego is in free fall; you lose 33-3 at home and you wind up unemployed. Funny how the three teams on the move (Raiders-Rams-Chargers) have now all lost at least three in row, as they're not being helped by not knowing where they'll be living at this time next year.

3) Seahawks 29, 49ers 13-- First time this year Seattle won when allowing other side to score TD on offense; they're 0-5 when allowing more than 13 points. Not sure how the 49ers justify running Colin Kaepernick out of town; guy won a lot for them.

2) Packers 30, Vikings 13-- NFC North race is tied with six weeks to go; going back to the Teddy Bridgewater thing from two weeks ago, he ran with the ball again in this game and a Green Bay player narrowly missed taking his head off with a dive, but no one said a word. You can't just slide and expect guys flying around at great speed to just stop themselves and not hit the guy. You don't want to get hit? Don't run.

1) Cardinals 34, Bengals 31-- Arizona led 28-14 with 12:00 left, but Bengals tied it with 1:03 left, before Redbirds kicked winning FG with 0:02 left. Cincinnati lost for second week in row after an 8-0 start. Think about it: Bruce Arians didn't get a head coaching job in the NFL until he was 60 and he is one of the league's best.

Notes for Monday's games..........

San Diego State lost 46-43 to Ark-Little Rock Saturday, shooting 28.3%; Aztecs are 2-2, forcing turnovers only 12.5% of time (#339), while they turn ball over 22.4% of time (#302) so they've got issues at guard. East Carolina lost by 8 at Cal Friday. AAC underdogs are 7-2 against spread. Mountain West home favorites are 6-6.

Santa Clara is 0-4, scoring 55.2 ppg; they turn ball over 21.5% of time, make 26.7% from arc- they're #331 in experience. Cal-Irvine is 3-0 with OT win at Central Florida last game; Anteaters have 7-6 center; they are #5 in country in eFG% defense. Big West home favorites are 4-2 against spread; WCC road underdogs are 3-9.

Florida State is 3-1, scoring 91.8 ppg; they're shooting 61.9% inside arc; Hofstra made 10-22 from arc in FSU's only loss. Ohio U blew 19-point lead in 90-88 loss to Tulsa Friday; Bobcats are 3-1; none of teams they beat are in top 250 nationally. ACC favorites on neutral courts are 7-4 vs spread. MAC underdogs are 4-8 against the spread.

St John's is undermanned in Mullin's first year as coach, but giving them 15 when Vandy just beat Stony Brook in OT? Oy. Red Storms allowed 56.3 ppg in winning first three games vs stuffs (no one in top 200)- they turn ball over 22.6% of time. Vanderbilt made 40% of its 3's in 3-0 start. SEC favorites are 13-9. Big East underdogs are 5-6 against spread.

Indiana scored 92 ppg in winning first three games, beating Creighton by 21 last game; Hoosiers are turning ball over 24% of time but making 43% from arc, 66% inside it. Wake Forest is 6th-worst team in country forcing turnovers; they're 2-1, losing 91-82 to Richmond. Deacons are young but are good on boards. Big 14 favorites are 11-15 against the spread.

Pac-12 teams are 3-0 vs Mountain West this year, but covered only one of the three games. UCLA scored 83.3 ppg in 2-1 start, turning ball over 21.9% of time but rebounding 42.2% of missed shots. UNLV has young team that is taking step up in competition here; Rebels are shooting just 23.5% on 3's, but force TOs 21% of time, can match UCLA athleticism.

Belmont is 2-2; they were underdog in three of four games, are shooting 60.5% inside arc, only 32.3% outside it. Bruins lost 93-88 at Evansville Saturday, after playing in Milwaukee/Tempe weekend before that- they could be tired. South Alabama is lost first two D-I games by 18-12 points to NC State/LSU; Jaguars are shooting just 37.5% inside the arc.

Mercer is 3-0 with win over George Mason, which had pretty good week in Charleston; Bears have young team, starting three sophs. Davidson is scored 86 ppg in winning first two games by total of six points, against Charleston/UCF- they outscored Charleston 4-0 over last 2:52 in 82-81 win Saturday. Wildcats don't sub much; they're #332 in bench minutes.

Top 25 roundup: Allen-led Duke wins 2K Classic

Sophomore guard Grayson Allen scored a career-high 32 points and No. 5 Duke survived a physical Georgetown squad and registered an 86-84 victory in the championship game of the 2K Classic Sunday afternoon at New York City's Madison Square Garden.

Duke (4-1) won the tournament for the second time thanks to one of the best individual performances in the event's 20-year existence. Allen won the MVP of the event and set a tournament record by scoring 62 points in two games, four more than the previous mark set by Rodney Carney for Memphis in 2004.

Guard Derryck Thornton added 14 points and guard Matt Jones added 11 for Duke, which also won the event in 2008 when it beat Michigan State.

Forward Issac Copeland led the Hoyas (1-3) with 21 points. He was scoreless in the second half until hitting two 3-pointers in the final minute and missed a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer.

No. 6 Virginia 83, George Mason 66

The Cavaliers knocked off the Patriots to capture the 2015 Charleston Classic title in Charleston, S.C., and take home a took home a preseason tournament title for the third time in as many years.

Virginia (4-1) put four players in double figures, with senior guard Malcolm Brogdon leading the way with a game-high 21 points. Guard London Perrantes, who was named tournament MVP, recorded a career-high assists 11 assists and added 16 points.

George Mason (2-3) got a team-high 16 points from guard Jaire Grayer.

No. 11 Villanova 75, Akron 56

VILLANOVA, Pa., -- Junior swingman Josh Hart scored a career-high 27 points as the Wildcats overcame a slow start to blow out the Zips.

Senior point guard Ryan Arcidiacono contributed 15 points, eight assists, and no turnovers for Villanova (4-0).

Leading the charge for Akron (3-1) was sophomore guard Antino Jackson with 11 points.

No. 12 Arizona 61, Northwestern State 42

TUCSON, Ariz., -- Guard Gabe York scored 18 points as the cold-shooting Wildcats had a hard time shaking Northwestern State before increasing their home winning streak to 42 games, tops in the nation.

Backup center Dusan Ristic added nine points and 10 rebounds for Arizona, which made 36.7 percent of its shots from the field and went 5 of 22 from 3-point range. The Wildcats (4-0) made only half of their 24 free throw attempts.

Guard Zeek Woodley scored 14 points to lead Northwestern State (0-4), which had several chances in the second half to cut the deficit to single digits but never could.

No. 16 Utah 74, Temple 68

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- Center Jakob Poeltl scored a career-high 32 points and added 11 rebounds as the Utes survived a late Temple rally to edge the Owls in the third-place game of the Puerto Rico Tip-off.

Guard Brandon Taylor added 10 points for the Utes and buried a jumper with 27 seconds remaining that put Utah (4-1) ahead for good.

Guard Quenton DeCosey scored 14 points and forward Obi Enechionyia added 13 points to lead the Owls. Temple (1-3) trailed by as many as 14 points in the second half before rallying and taking a lead in the final minutes.

UNCASVILLE, Conn., -- Guard Rapheal Davis scored 18 points, point guard P.J. Thompson came off the bench for 15 points and the Boilermakers defeated the Gators in the championship game of the Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic.

Sophomore forward Vince Edwards added 14 for Purdue (5-0). It is the first tournament championship for the Boilermakers since the 2009 Paradise Jam when Purdue defeated Tennessee in the title game in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Center John Egbuno scored 19 points for Florida (3-1).

Miami 85, No. 22 Butler 75

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Hurricanes frittered away all but four points of an early 21-point advantage but hung on to upset the Bulldogs and capture the title game of the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament.

Guard Angel Rodriguez led the way with 19 points for Miami (5-0). Guard Ja'Quan Newton added 17 points and center Tonye Jekiri had 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Butler guard Kellen Dunham led all scorers with 23 points, dropping in five 3-pointers after scoring just three points in the first half. Guard Roosevelt Jones added 19 for the Bulldogs (3-1).

No. 25 Oregon 73, Valparaiso 67

EUGENE, Ore., -- Forward Dillon Brooks had 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead No. the Ducks over the Crusaders.

Guard Tyler Dorsey added 21 points while senior forward Elgin Cook had 13 points for the Ducks (4-0).

Guard Tevonn Walker scored 14 points to pace Valparaiso (5-1).
