    Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

Westgate Super Contest (1,727 entrants-- prize pool is $2.5M)
six most popular picks in Week 10 season record: 30-29-2

    6) Seahawks -3 (411)-- Chance to get back in contention in NFC West L

    5) Chiefs +6 (426)-- KC lost first meeting with Denver in last minute. W.

    4) Redskins even (448)-- New Orleans hasn't had their bye week yet. W

    3) Jaguars +5.5 (466)-- Not a lot of faith in the Ravens here. W

    2) Raiders -3 (520)-- Scored 34+ points in each of last three games. L

    1) Titans +5.5 (620)-- Letdown spot for unbeaten Carolina? . L

    **********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Sunday......

    13) Chiefs 29, Broncos 13-- KC won its third straight game, picking off five passes; Andy Reid is now 15-2 in post-bye games. Peyton Manning was benched in second half for Brock Osweiler, as Denver lost its second straight game after a 7-0 start.

    12) Lions 18, Packers 16-- Detroit won in Wisconsin for first time since 1991, when Mike Tomczak was the Packer QB, Wayne Fontes was the Lions' coach, Brett Favre was an Atlanta Falcon. Last few minutes of this game weren't pretty; Lions missed a PAT, stopped the tying 2-point play from Green Bay, but then the Packers fell on the onside kick, giving them yet another chance. Packers have now lost three in a row.

    11) Buccaneers 10, Cowboys 6-- Jameis Winston fumbled as he was flipped while trying to hurdle into the end zone, but a holding penalty on Dallas gave Bucs another chance and Winston ran in for the winning score with 0:54 left, handing Dallas its 7th loss in a row. Curious to see if Tony Romo plays for Dallas next week.

    10) Panthers 27, Titans 10-- Carolina is now 9-0; their next three opponents all have losing records. Titans have lost ten home games in a row. Cam Newton didn't make any friends with a long celebration after scoring TD with 2:42 left to make score 27-10. At some point, you need to act like a professional; celebrate on the sidelines.

    9) Bears 37, Rams 13-- Rookie RB Lankford had 182 total yards, two TDs for Bears, who won impressively despite having a short week after playing Monday night in San Diego. St Louis is 1-5 outside its own division; their passing game is a mess and their defense appears a bit overrated.

    8) Redskins 47, Saints 14-- Redskins gained 526 TY, Cousins threw for four TDs in his first game since his dad was diagnosed with cancer-- he gave his dad the game ball after this convincing win. Washington had ball ten times, scored four TDs, four FGs.

    7) Valparaiso 83, Iona 58-- Iona is expected to win the MAAC; this score says an experienced Valpo team is really good. Not often Iona scores less than 60 points.

    6) Dolphins 20, Eagles 19-- On their first two drives, Philly scored two TDs, gaining 122 yards on 14 plays; combined with a safety, they led 16-3 and were driving again but missed a 32-yard FG on their third drive, had a punt blocked on the next drive and went into the ashcan after that. With the offense Eagles run, don't they need a QB who is a running threat?

    5) Steelers 30, Browns 9-- Roethlisberger threw for 286 yards in first half of a game he didn't start; Landry Jones got hurt, which was very bad news for Cleveland, which got decent stats from Manziel but only one TD. Browns only had 15 yards rushing, and Manziel had 17; maybe Kevin Costner can draft for them next spring.

    4) Jaguars 22, Ravens 20-- This is how fine a line there is between winning/losing in the NFL; Ravens are 2-8, with both wins by a FG. All ten of their games were decided by 8 or less points-- all one-possession games.

Baltimore was going to win this game but a facemask penalty on the Ravens on the last play moved the ball 15 yards closer and allowed Jags to make a 53-yard walk-off FG.

    3) Vikings 30, Raiders 14-- Minnesota ran for 263 yards in this game, as they take over first place in the NFC North. If the playoffs started Monday morning........

    NFC: Giants-Vikings-Panthers-Cardinals Wild Card: Packers-Falcons
    AFC: Patriots-Bengals-Colts-Broncos. Wild Card: Steelers-Bills

    2) Patriots 27, Giants 26-- Giants' DB dropped a sure INT on first play of last drive, as New England drove 44 yards on 12 plays in 1:46. Giants were up 20-10 with 5:00 left in third quarter. Somehow, they're in first place, despite being 5-5- the #4-5 first round game in the NFC playoffs could find Packers visiting the NFC East champ.

    1) Cardinals 39, Seahawks 32-- Seven NFL teams were -2 or worse in turnovers this week; Arizona is only one of the seven who won. Packers/Falcons are two Wild Card teams in NFC right now- they have two game lead on other NFC also rans. Seattle has led in fourth quarter in all five of its losses this year.

Buckeyes open as double digit faves against Sparty

If Ohio State wants a shot at reaching the four-team playoff to defend its national championship, it’s going to have get through its two Michigan rivals over the next two weekends.

First up for the Buckeyes: a home date with Michigan State. Ohio State (10-0 SU, 4-6 ATS) tuned up with a 28-3 road victory over Illinois on Saturday, cashing as a 17.5-point favorite. The Buckeyes now have 23 consecutive SU wins (13-10 ATS) since losing the 2014 season opener to Virginia Tech.

Meanwhile, for the Spartans (9-1 SU, 3-7 ATS) to have any shot at the Big Ten title – and perhaps a shot at the playoff – they’ll have to continue their bounce-back from a Week 10 loss at Nebraska. Michigan State got back on track Saturday, rolling past Maryland 24-7 as a 14.5-point home chalk.

Johhny Avello, executive director of race and sports for Wynn Las Vegas, opened Ohio State as a hefty 12.5-point favorite.

“Michigan State had its best defense effort against Maryland this past week, but Ohio State can now see the finish line, and it will take a triple-A-plus effort to slay the beast,” Avello said.

      Baylor at Oklahoma State (-1)

Oklahoma State is still on track for a surprising perfect season and perhaps a spot in the playoff, but certainly had its hands more full than it expected with Iowa State on Saturday. The Cowboys (10-0 SU, 6-4 ATS) needed a late touchdown to claim a 35-31 victory, falling short as 11.5-point road favorites.

On the flip side, Baylor blew its opportunity to make this matchup a meeting of Big 12 unbeatens. The Bears (8-1 SU, 4-4 ATS), 2.5-point home faves Saturday against Oklahoma, were dealt a 44-34 loss.

“Baylor’s national title hopes may have imploded Saturday, and a running of the table by Oklahoma State will get the Cowboys into the playoff,” Avello said. “The Cowboys were a 29-point dog at Baylor last year, but this game should be closer to a pick.”

      Texas Christian at Oklahoma

In another game that could go a long way toward determining whether the Big 12 will get in or be left out of the playoff, a pair of one-loss teams will try to stay in the conversation.

The Sooners (9-1 SU, 8-2 ATS) logged their fifth consecutive SU and ATS victory, besting Baylor 44-34 as 2.5-point road ‘dogs Saturday.
The Horned Frogs (9-1 SU, 4-6 ATS), who saw their perfect record go up in smoke at Oklahoma State on Nov. 7, weren’t nearly as impressive Saturday at home. TCU went off as a massive 46.5-point chalk against winless Kansas, but had to hold on for a lackluster 23-17 victory.

TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin (ankle) is expected to play, but the line hasn’t been posted yet.

“TCU must have been looking ahead to this one, with that lackluster performance at home against Kansas,” Avello said. “The Sooners are playing their best football right now and are also in the thick of it for college football’s grand prize.”

      UCLA at Utah (-1)

The Pac-12 South Division is a muddled mess, but both these teams still have a shot to reach the conference title game, despite suffering upset losses on Saturday.

UCLA (7-3 SU, 3-5-1 ATS) went off as 11.5-point home chalk Saturday against Washington State, but tumbled 31-27. Utah (8-2 SU, 5-5 ATS) was a 5.5-point favorite at Arizona, but lost 37-30.

“The top spot for the Pac-12 South is still up in the air for both these teams, along with Southern Cal,” Avello said. “The Utes have an easier road to get there, playing Colorado at home next week while UCLA travels to USC. The Bruins and Utes both lost tough ones Saturday, but motivation should be high for both clubs this week.”

NBA roundup: Jazz slip past Hawks

ATLANTA -- Derrick Favors returned to his hometown to score 23 points and grab eight rebounds, leading the Utah Jazz to a 97-96 win over the Atlanta Hawks on Sunday at Philips Arena.

Favors, who grew up in Atlanta and played one season at Georgia Tech before turning professional, shot 11-for-20 from the field. His bucket gave the Jazz a five-point lead at 93-88, a margin from which the Hawks could not recover.

Favors also made an 18-footer as the shot clock was running out with 38 seconds left to extend Utah's lead to four points. He scored 17 points in the second half.

Atlanta had one last chance to win the game. Al Horford made a 3-pointer with 33 seconds left to cut the lead to one, and the Hawks had the ball after Favors missed a jumper with 12 seconds left. Paul Millsap had an open look at the basket as time expired, but his 16-footer bounced off the rim and into the arms of Favors.

          Hornets 106, Trail Blazers 94

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Nicolas Batum and Al Jefferson combined for 62 points as Charlotte built a big lead and held on for a victory over Portland.

The Hornets used a dominating inside-outside performance from Jefferson (29 points, five rebounds) and Batum (33 points, 5-of-10 on 3-pointers) to seize a lead in the second quarter that the Hornets would not relinquish.

The Hornets' 15-0 run that secured the lead began with a Batum 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter, and ballooned with the help of eight points from Jeremy Lamb (13 points for the game) in the second quarter.

          Grizzlies 114, Timberwolves 106

MINNEAPOLIS -- Jeff Green led hot-shooting Memphis with 21 points during a win over Minnesota.

Mike Conley added 20 for the Grizzlies, who had six players in double figures en route to their second victory in a row. The Grizzles entered the game with the NBA's worst shooting percentage, but they hit on a season-best 56.3 percent of their shots.

Zach LaVine scored 25 points but the Timberwolves fell to 0-5 at home with their fourth consecutive loss. Guard Andrew Wiggins finished with 21 points.

          Knicks 95, Pelicans 87

NEW YORK -- Aided by strong play from the bench, New York won for just the second time at home this season, knocking off New Orleans.

Carmelo Anthony paced the Knicks with 29 points and 13 rebounds, but it was the New York reserves who made the difference. Langston Galloway scored 15 points, and Kevin Seraphin added 12 points in 13 minutes.

Pelicans star Anthony Davis showed no ill effects from a hip contusion that kept him out for two previous games. He poured in 36 points, pulled in 11 rebounds and blocked four shots in 40 minutes. Ryan Anderson contributed 16 points.

          Celtics 100, Thunder 85

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Marcus Smart scored a career-high 26 points to lead Boston past Oklahoma City.

Taking on the challenge of guarding Thunder guard Russell Westbrook, Smart still made nine of 14 shots from the field and hauled in eight rebounds. Isaiah Thomas scored 20 points and handed out eight assists for the Celtics.

Westbrook had a game-high 27 points on 5-of-20 shooting. He shot 2-of-10 from behind the 3-point arc. Serge Ibaka other Thunder player in double figures, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

          Kings 107, Raptors 101

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- DeMarcus Cousins scored a game-high 36 points, and Ben McLemore's acrobatic layup with under a minute left lifted Sacramento past Toronto.

Cousins produced his third consecutive game of at least 30 points, and the Kings held the Raptors to 12 points over the final 10:23 to win for the third straight time. Cousins stopped DeMar DeRozan's drive to the hoops with 20 seconds left, and Sacramento's Rudy Gay hit two free throws after a foul at the other end to clinch it.

Gay added 27 points, and Omri Casspi contributed 14 for the Kings. DeRozan finished with 24 points, and Kyle Lowry scored 22 for Toronto.

          Lakers 97, Pistons 85

LOS ANGELES -- Kobe Bryant compiled 17 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, and Los Angeles snapped a four-game skid with a victory over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday night at Staples Center.

Guard Jordan Clarkson also had 17 points for the Lakers. Bryant made just six of 19 shots from the floor but was effective in involving his teammates. The Lakers defeated the Pistons for the seventh consecutive time and the 10th time in the past 11 meetings.

Detroit's Andre Drummond extended his streak of double-doubles to 10 in a row with 17 points and 17 rebounds, and Spencer Dinwiddie added 17 points.
