        Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

-- Texas 61, Baylor 59 OT-- Seven players were ejected for leaving bench area after a non-scuffle after players dove on a loose ball near halfcourt.. There was jawing after the game; could be interesting if teams meet in Big X tournament.

-- James Harden is suspended for tonight's game with Atlanta after his flagrant foul in Sunday's game with Cleveland.

-- Bronx Bombers played an intrasquad game Monday with a pitching machine; not sure why. They've got a boatload of pitchers in the locker room, no?

-- Padraig Harrington won at Doral, second week in a row the #297 ranked golfer in the world won on the PGA Tour. Steve Webster is now #297 in the world.

-- Iowa State 77, Oklahoma 70-- Sooners led 37-18 at half; Iowa State had 31-4 run in second half as Hilton Coliseum went nuts.

-- Spring training games start today; its going to snow again in Albany tonite. Oy.

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Looking at college tournament histories......

A look at some of the conference tournament histories that start this week

        13) MAAC-- Siena won both the regular season and conference tournament in 2008-10, but since then, the top seed hasn't won the tournament. #1 seed lost in the semis three of last four years, in the final last year.

        12) OVC-- Murray State went 16-0 in the OVC this year; they've been top seed in this tournament four times in last ten years and won it three of the four times. In last four years, four different teams won this tournament.

        11) CAA-- Eight of last 11 tournament winners aren't in this league anymore; #1 seed has won it once in last four years. This year, four teams tied for top spot so Sunday's semi doubleheader should be exceptional, if top seeds all win Saturday. In last four years, four different teams have won this tournament.

        10) WCC-- Gonzaga and everyone else, though Bulldogs lost their last game at home to BYU. Zags won this tournament eight of last 11 years; St Mary's won twice and San Diego once. Gonzaga is looking like a #2 seed in NCAAs; every other team is trying to play their way in, with BYU having the best shot. Cougars lost in finals last year, split six games in WCC tourney since joining the league.

        9) MVC-- Wichita State/Northern Iowa are far and away the two best teams this year; top seed won this tournament last two years, after winning only twice in decade before that. Shockers/Panthers' only two losses this year came against each other. Four of last six WCC finals were decided by 4 or less points.

        8) Summit-- Even though tourney is played at a neutral site, top seed has won six of last seven tournaments. South Dakota State/North Dakota State tied for top spot this year. Bison won a game in NCAA tournament last March.

        7) Horizon-- Top seed won this tournament six of last ten years, but 7-9 Milwaukee won LY. Wright State lost in final last two years, but they're 3-13 this year. Valpo is top seed this year at 13-3; Green Bay 12-4, Cleveland State/Oakland 11-5. League isn't as good as it was when Butler was here.

        6) Big X-- One of few leagues where teams play everyone else twice, so every game in this tournament will be a third meeting this season. Top seed won this tournament five of last eight years, Kansas wins the regular season every year, but they've "only" won the conference tournament three of the last six years.

        5) Big East-- St John's plays tournament on its home floor; they're #8 in country in experience, 6th-to-last in bench minutes. Winning three days in row could be an issue. Last 11 years, lower-seeded team is 6-5 SU in tournament final. Of last seven Big East champions, only one is still in the league.

        4) Big 14-- Either Michigan State or Ohio State won this tournament the last five years (OSU three, MSU two); Top-seeded Wisconsin last won this event in 2008; #1 seed won this tournament five of last eight years. Maryland went 12-4 in its first year in the league; will be weird seeing them play in this tournament, instead of the ACC.

        3) Pac-12-- Arizona is obviously best program here, but they haven't won this event in last 12 years; lower-seeded team won finals in this tournament last six years, with last four tournaments won by all different teams. Last time top seed won this event was UCLA is 2008. Having tourney in Las Vegas has upgraded it.

        2) SEC-- If Kentucky doesn't win this it'll be national news, but top seed won the SEC tourney only twice in last seven years. Kentucky played in four of last five finals, but lost last two as different team won this event the last four years. Five of last six finals were decided by seven or less points.

        1) Mountain West-- New Mexico won this turnament last three years, but the wheels have fallen off for Lobos this season, in a down year for the league. San Diego State is the only lock for NCAAs, but Bosie State is hot and could get in with strong showing here. UNLV is host team but they haven't won this event since 2008

                NBA

                Tuesday, March 3

Kings' C DeMarcus Cousins, doubtful Tuesday

Cousins has missed the last two games due to a left ankle sprain and a left hip contusion. He is unlikely to return Tuesday against the Knicks.

Hawks' PG Jeff Teague, Probable Tuesday

Teague is expected to play Tuesday against the Rockets despite a hamstring injury.

Over cashes at 80 percent clip Monday

Over bets finished with a record of 4-1 in the NBA Monday, cashing in at a rate of 80 percent on the day.

It was a meager five game schedule, but still a profitable venture if bettors had backed the over in each game. The only game on the board that did eclipse the closing total was the Dallas Mavericks' 102-93 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. The total in that matchup closed at 197.

Season to date, the Over/Under mark in the league is 403-472, giving the edge to Unders at 53.94 percent.

There are seven games on the board Tuesday.

Golden State still struggling to cash tickets

The Golden State Warriors continue to struggle to cash tickets for their backers with their 110-108 loss to the Brooklyn Nets Monday night.

The Warriors, who closed as 5.5-point road favorites, failed to cover the spread for the eighth time in their last 11 games, dropping them to 34-23-1 ATS on the season.

Golden State will try to get back on track Wednesday when they host the Milwaukee Bucks, who are also a strong spread bet at 35-24 ATS.

Dragic leads Heat past Suns in revenge spot

Goran Dragic scored 21 points to lead the Miami Heat to a 115-98 win and cover against his former team, the Phoenix Suns, Monday night.

It was the first time Dragic faced his old teammates since being moved at the trade deadline and an obvious revenge spot for him and the Heat, who closed as 1.5-point home favorites.

The Suns are now 0-2 straight up and against the spread when they face their former point guards.

Raptors halt losing streak, ATS skid

The Toronto Raptors ended their longest losing streak and ATS skid of the season with their 114-103 over the Philadelphia 76ers Monday night.

The Raptors had lost and failed to cover five games in a row for the first time this season, but were able to cover as 9.5-point favorites against the lowly Sixers.

Toronto has a tough task if they want to keep winning, with the Eastern Conference favorite Cleveland Cavaliers coming to town Wednesday.

                  Tuesday's Tip Sheet

                  March 3, 2015

Celtics at Cavaliers – 7:05 PM EST

Cleveland looks to snap a two-game losing streak after dropping consecutive games for the first time since early January. The Cavaliers fell at Houston on Sunday in overtime, 105-103, as LeBron James missed several critical free throws down the stretch, finishing the day misfiring on 20 shots from the floor and failing to convert eight free throws. David Blatt’s club has won 11 straight contests at Quicken Loans Arena, while covering 10 times with the only ATS loss coming as 17-point favorites against Philadelphia.

The Celtics squandered a 26-point lead in Sunday’s shocking loss to the Warriors, 106-101. Boston managed to cover as 8 ½-point underdogs to improve to 8-2 ATS in the last 10 games, but Brad Stevens’ squad scored just 36 points in the second half, while shooting 36% from the floor in the defeat. Since January, the Celtics have cashed in 10 of 12 games in the road underdog role, which includes outright victories at Phoenix and Portland. The Celtics are facing the Cavaliers for the first time since November, when Boston blew a 19-point lead in a 122-121 defeat as six-point home underdogs.

Rockets at Hawks – 7:35 PM EST

Houston heads to Atlanta short-handed as James Harden is suspended one game following a kicking incident in Sunday’s two-point overtime victory over Cleveland. The Rockets completed a five-game sweep of their homestand, while covering four times, but Houston has lost each of its past two road contests against the Mavericks and Clippers. Harden is missing his first game this season, as the Rockets won five of eight times without the All-Star guard last season. The Rockets have struggled as an underdog of three points or more this season, posting a 3-7 ATS mark.

The Hawks are building a new winning streak after a 3-4 run to start February as Atlanta goes for its fifth straight victory. In the first four wins during this hot stretch, the Hawks have allowed 91 points or less, while edging the Heat on Saturday night, 93-91 as both Jeff Teague and Al Horford sat out to rest. Both All-Stars are expected to play tonight, as the Hawks go for the season sweep of the Rockets after winning at the Toyota Center in December, 104-97 as five-point underdogs. The Hawks have cashed the ‘under’ in six straight games, while winning 14 of their past 15 contests at Philips Arena.

Jazz at Grizzlies – 8:05 PM EST

Utah has turned it on of late, winning six of its past eight games, while allowing 87 points or less in five of the last six contests. The Jazz begins a four-game road trip, as Quin Snyder’s club has won two of their previous three games away from Salt Lake City, including a blowout of Denver in its last road game on Friday. During this late stretch of good basketball played by the Jazz, Utah has posted a 6-1-1 ATS record, while looking for its second victory over Memphis this season after winning at FedEx Forum as eight-point underdogs in December.

The Grizzlies snapped a two-game skid in Saturday’s 101-97 victory at Minnesota, but Memphis failed to cover for the third straight game. Memphis actually busted the 100-point mark for the first time in nine games, while its ‘under’ streak of nine ended against the Wolves. The Grizzlies hope to avoid a look-ahead spot as Memphis heads to Houston tomorrow night, but Dave Joerger’s team has won seven of their last eight home games, while knocking off the Jazz in Salt Lake City last month, 100-90.

Wizards at Bulls – 8:05 PM EST

Chicago is a beat-up team right now with Derrick Rose sidelined and most recently Jimmy Butler on the mend with an elbow injury that will keep him out for nearly a month. The Bulls hung with the Clippers on Sunday, but fell apart in the fourth quarter of a 96-86 setback, as Chicago shot just 31% from the field. Tom Thibodeau’s team cashed the ‘under’ for the fourth straight game, as neither the Bulls or their opponents have eclipsed the 100-point mark in this span. The Bulls have responded well at home off a loss, winning four of their past five in this situation.

The Wizards snapped a six-game losing streak in Saturday’s 99-95 home triumph over the Pistons, but Washington fell to 0-6 ATS since the All-Star break as it failed to cash as 4 ½-point favorites. Randy Wittman’s club knocked out the Bulls in the first round of the playoffs last season in five games, while capturing two of the first three meetings this season. In the last visit to the United Center, the Wizards rallied past the Bulls, 105-99 in January as 5 ½-point underdogs, the fourth straight win in the Windy City for Washington. However, the Wizards have been anything but magical on the highway, covering just once in the last 10 away contests.

                      Harden-Less Rockets face Hawks

                      March 3, 2015

HOUSTON ROCKETS (41-18) at ATLANTA HAWKS (47-12)

                      Tip-off: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. ET
Sportsbook.ag Line and Total: Atlanta -9, Total 200

Two of the elite teams in the NBA, the Houston Rockets and Atlanta Hawks, meet on Tuesday night in what should be a tremendous match-up.

Houston has been dealing with injuries up and down its rotation all season long but has seen SG ames Harden consistently play MVP-caliber basketball as the team comes into this contest with five consecutive SU wins (4-1 ATS). They’ve won by an average of 8.8 PPG over the current winning streak and defeated three eventual playoff teams in the process. The biggest victory came on Sunday against the Cavs, when they took the game into overtime and grabbed a 105-103 win as one-point underdogs. The offense hit 34-of-74 shots (46% FG) in the win as Cleveland made a putrid 11-of-21 free-throw attempts. Harden, however, is suspended for this game.

Atlanta has been one of the most dominant teams all year long and continues to put together tremendous all-around efforts with victories in each of the last four outings. They were just 2-2 ATS in that time and after grabbing double-digit wins against both Milwaukee and Dallas, they had close calls against some less talented clubs in Orlando and Miami. They really cut it close on Saturday against the Heat when they were giving 2.5 points and ended with a 93-91 win. It was a late push by Miami that made it close as they put up 38 points in the final quarter, but the Hawks were able to keep the lead behind 23 forced turnovers.

Houston has managed to play well on the road with a record of 17-10 SU (13-14 ATS) in away games as they face an Atlanta group which is a solid 27-4 SU (19-12 ATS) at home. It was all the Hawks in the first matchup between these teams this year when they took down the Rockets by a score of 104-97 behind 51.4% shooting as 5-point underdogs on the road in late December.

It was their first win in Houston since 2010, but they typically do well when playing at home and are 11-5 SU (7-7-2 ATS) against this opponent in front of their fans since 1996. Trends show us that Atlanta is 5-1 ATS this year after playing five consecutive games as the favorite while Houston is 16-3 ATS (84%) when coming off a road win on the season.

The injuries have been frequent for the Rockets this year as they continue to play without C Dwight Howard (Knee) and have SF Kostas Papanikolaou (Ankle) day-to-day. On the other side, the Hawks had PG Jeff Teague (Hamstring), C Al Horford (Personal), SF DeMare Carroll (Achilles) and C Pero Antic (Knee) out on Saturday but they are all expected to play in this one.

The Houston offense continues to be impressive with 103.3 PPG (6th in league) on the season as it makes just 43.8% of its shots (9th-worst in league). The defense has also performed well in the high-powered Western Conference and has given up 99.7 PPG on 44% shooting (9th in league).

SG James Harden (27.1 PPG, 6.9 APG, 5.8 RPG, 1.9 SPG) is coming off yet another tremendous effort (33 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals, 2 blocks) in the win over Cleveland on Saturday but also had an altercation with LeBron James that will cause him to miss this contest due to suspension. He was just 5-of-16 against the Hawks in the first meeting this year but ended with a solid line (18 points, 14 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 block, 1 steal) in the loss.

SF Trevor Ariza (12.6 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 1.9 SPG) has made a meager 38% of his field goal attempts this year and had just four points against the Cavs while contributing in other ways (7 rebounds, 4 steals, 2 blocks). He took nine three-point shots in the last matchup with Atlanta, making just three on his way to a 13-point game in which he added two steals and a block.

PF Terrence Jones (11.7 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 1.9 BPG) has been huge of late with averages of 17.0 PPG (56% FG), 10.2 RPG and 2.2 BPG over his last five outings. He didn’t face this opponent in the game back in December but has averaged 10.0 PPG (45% FG) and 7.0 RPG in two career starts against them.

Atlanta has picked up its offensive game this year and are scoring the second most points in the East (102.6 PPG, 7th in league) behind 46.6% shooting (3rd in league). On the opposite end of the court, the defense has been extremely impressive as well and are giving up a mere 96.4 PPG (2nd in league) as opponents make 43.4% of their shots (4th in league).

PG Jeff Teague (16.7 PPG, 7.3 APG, 1.7 SPG) has not been playing well in recent games with 12.3 PPG on a mere 39% shooting over his past four performances. He also missed the past contest against this squad and was horrible when facing them last year with 5.5 PPG (12% FG), 5.0 APG and 1.5 SPG.

PF Paul Millsap (17.0 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 1.7 SPG) has put up 20+ points in three of his past four games and has hit 6-of-11 threes over the last two contests. He was solid all-around (14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 steals) when his club defeated the Rockets already this season.

C Al Horford (15.4 PPG, 7.6 RPG, 1.3 BPG) averaged a double-double (14.7 PPG, 10.9 RPG) over 11 February games and should be rearing to go after getting a day of rest on Saturday. He was solid in the game against Houston back in December with 14 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, three blocks and a steal.

WASHINGTON WIZARDS (34-26) at CHICAGO BULLS (37-23)

                      Tip-off: Tuesday, 8:00 p.m. ET
Sportsbook.ag Line and Total: Washington -1, Total 186

The Wizards will be going for their second straight victory when they head to Chicago on Tuesday and face a Bulls team that is depleted by injuries.

The Wizards hosted the Pistons on Saturday and won 99-95 as 5-point favorites. Washington had lost six straight games heading into that one and the team is now 0-5-1 ATS in its past six games. The Wizards are really struggling offensively, scoring less than 100 points in seven of their past eight contests. The Bulls, meanwhile, lost 96-86 as 2-point home underdogs against the Clippers on Sunday.

Chicago is also struggling to put up points, averaging just 88.8 PPG over its past four games. The Bulls are, however, allowing just 88.5 PPG in those contests. The team has not found its defensive identity all year but perhaps their recent injuries will force the players to clamp down and win some ugly games.

Chicago won-and-covered in Washington in the first meeting between these teams on the season, but the Wizards have won-and-covered in two straight against the Bulls since then. Washington has won its past five games at United Center SU and the team has also covered in seven straight games in Chicago as well. The Wizards are, however, 2-8 ATS after a win by six points or less this season. The Bulls, meanwhile, are 9-4 ATS when revenging a loss where an opponent scored 100 or more points in their previous meeting this season.

PF Kris Humphries (Groin) is questionable for the Wizards and SG Jimmy Butler (Elbow), PG Derrick Rose (Knee) and PF Taj Gibson (Ankle) are all out indefinitely for the Bulls.

The Wizards finally got back into the win column with a victory over the Pistons on Saturday and PG John Wall (17.2 PPG, 10.1 APG, 4.3 RPG, 1.8 SPG) came up big in that one. He played 38 minutes and finished with 22 points (8-for-14 FG), six assists and two steals. Wall should be able to tear up Chicago, as the team is now weak at the point guard position with PG Derrick Rose (18.4 PPG, 5.0 APG, 3.1 RPG) rehabbing his knee. Wall is averaging 18.3 PPG and 10.0 APG in three meetings with the Bulls this season and he’ll need to attack the basket for some easy buckets right from the opening tip.

SF Paul Pierce (12.6 PPG, 4.2 RPG) will also be a big weapon for the Wizards in this game. Pierce had 14 points, five rebounds and five assists in his return from a knee injury on Saturday. He is averaging 13.7 PPG and 5.0 RPG against Chicago this season and should be in for a much bigger performance with the Bulls being without SG Jimmy Butler (20.2 PPG, 5.9 RPG, 3.3 APG, 1.7 SPG). Butler is one of the better on-ball defenders in the NBA and usually checks the opposing team’s small forward. Pierce should be able to post up whomever else Chicago throws at him and he’s always a threat to knock down his outside shots as well (38% 3PT).

C Marcin Gortat (11.8 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 1.3 BPG) had 16 points, 17 rebounds, three steals and a block against the Pistons last game. He’s been a monster on the glass, grabbing 10+ rebounds in each of his past five games. Gortat is averaging 15.3 PPG, 11.0 RPG and 2.0 BPG against the Bulls this season and will need to keep up that solid play on offense against a talented Bulls frontcourt.

SG Bradley Beal (14.9 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.3 SPG) had eight points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals in his return from a stress reaction in his leg on Saturday. Beal is averaging 16.3 PPG in three meetings with the Bulls this season and he will need to knock down his outside shots as he is the Wizards’ best shooter from deep (43% 3PT).

The Bulls are going to need some guys to really step their games up with PG Derrick Rose and SG Jimmy Butler out for the next few weeks.

PG Aaron Brooks (10.6 PPG, 2.8 APG) is the one who will be taking over Rose’s duty as the primary ball-handler. Brooks had 14 points and three assists in 31 minutes in the loss to Los Angeles. He is not as good of a passer as Rose is, but he can put up points in a hurry. Brooks is a lethal outside shooter (42% 3PT) and will use that to continue his success against the Wizards this season (12.3 PPG, 3.7 APG in 22.0 MPG).

SF Tony Snell (5.5 PPG, 2.0 RPG) will likely take a big portion of Butler’s minutes on the wing. Snell had 13 points (3-for-7 FG, 3-for-5 3PT, 4-for-4 FT) and seven boards in 33 minutes against the Clippers. He is a good perimeter defender and can really knock down shots from the outside (40% 3PT). He’ll look to put up his fifth straight game with 10+ points when he faces Washington Tuesday.

PF Nikola Mirotic (7.6 PPG, 4.4 RPG) is one more player who will be asked to bring his game to another level with Butler out. Mirotic prefers to play the power forward position, but he’ll see some time at both power forward and small forward with the injuries to Butler and PF Taj Gibson (10.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.2 BPG). Mirotic had 29 points and nine rebounds in 31 minutes against the Clippers last game. He is a very good shooter (34% 3PT) for a guy that is 6-foot-10 and he will need to use his size to make Paul Pierce uncomfortable when the Wizards’ veteran is guarding him.

C Joakim Noah (7.8 PPG, 10.0 RPG, 4.0 APG, 1.3 BPG) is one of the best passing big men in basketball and he will run the offense a lot with Rose out. Noah has had 6+ assists in each of his past three games and that is a trend that is likely to continue until Rose is healthy.

PF Pau Gasol (18.2 PPG, 12.1 RPG, 2.9 APG, 2.1 BPG) had just four points (2-for-13 FG) in his return from an illness against Los Angeles last game. He did, however, have 15 boards and four assists and should shoot better as he gets healthier. This will be a physical game inside, so the Bulls need Gasol to play tough on both ends of the court.

Denver Nuggets fire coach Brian Shaw

                        March 3, 2015

DENVER (AP) - The Denver Nuggets have fired coach Brian Shaw after 1 1/2 seasons.

General manager Tim Connelly said in a statement Tuesday: ''You won't find a better guy than Brian and he is one of the brightest basketball minds I've ever been around. Unfortunately things didn't go as we hoped, but we know with his basketball acumen that he has a very bright future ahead of him.''

Assistant coach Melvin Hunt will serve as interim coach.

Shaw went 56-85 for a .397 winning percentage. Denver takes a 20-39 record and a six-game losing streak into its game against Milwaukee on Tuesday night.

Shaw replaced George Karl, who was ousted after Denver won a franchise-record 57 games in 2012-13 only to be bounced from the first round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season.

Shaw's first season as an NBA head coach was marked by injuries and a long-running dispute with veteran point guard Andre Miller. The Nuggets went 36-46, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2002-03.

The Nuggets returned to health this season but failed to live up to expectations and have nosedived since the All-Star break. Attendance also has suffered.

Still, the timing of Shaw's firing was somewhat surprising given that just last week Connelly signaled Shaw's job was safe at least through the end of the season.

After winning three titles with the Los Angeles Lakers during his playing career, Shaw won two more as an assistant under Phil Jackson before becoming associate head coach of the Indiana Pacers. He interviewed for a dozen head coaching positions before Nuggets President Josh Kroenke hired him on June 25, 2013.

                          Armadillo: Wednesday's six-pack

-- Kentucky 72, Georgia 64-- Dawgs gave Kentucky everything they had, but in the end, poor foul shooting doomed them. Wildcats are now 30-0.

-- Navy 56, Army 52-- Middies end a 14-game losing streak in conference tourney games.

-- Ill-Chicago 60, Wright State 57-- Flames were down 39-20 at the half.

-- Villanova 76, Creighton 72-- Wildcats didn't look like a #1 seed in this game.

-- Northwestern 82, Michigan 78, 2OT-- Chris Collins' team is finishing strong.

-- Kansas 76, West Virginia 69, OT-- Jayhawks were 0-15 on arc, 34-43 on line; they were down 18 at one point. WVU played without both its starting guards.

Armadillo: Wednesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but.......

                          13) Great night of basketball on TV, but when midnight struck, all the favorites got out with a win; Kentucky, Kansas, Villanova. Its late in the year; everyone is tired-- players, coaches, refs. Conference tournaments will re-energize people.

                          12) Kentucky is good for other SEC teams; how many basketball sellouts do they get in Athens, Georgia? Wildcats most always win, but they put some big money in their rivals' pockets. Mark Fox signed a contract extension Tuesday; he is making progress, but its a big hill he is climbing.

                          11) It just dawned on me that I feel sorry for the poor bastard who takes Calipari's place at Kentucky; talk about impossible shoes to fill. he does a tremendous job, but has created a monster that is almost impossible to satisfy.

                          10) Iowa 77, Indiana 63-- Spoiled fanbase in Indy isn't thrilled with Tom Crean; on July 1, his buyout goes down from $12M to $7.5M. If Brad Stevens ever decides the NBA isn't for him, the coffers will open to lure Stevens to Bloomington.

                          9) Maryland 70, Rutgers 60-- Thirteen losses in a row for Rutgers, whose move to the Big 14 hasn't gone well. Lot of good ballplayers in New Jersey; how about recruiting some of them? Maryland on the other hand; they're a pleasant surprise.

                          8) Middle Tennessee is 15-14, 8-8 in C-USA, but they could be a lot better. Here are the Blue Raiders' last three losses:
-- Lost 71-68 at Rice, in double overtime.
-- Lost 57-56 at North Texas; led by 19 at the half.
-- Lost 100-95 at UAB, in triple overtime.

                          7) Chip Kelly already has nine ex-Oregon players on the Eagles, after he traded his star running back LeSean McCoy to Buffalo for Kiko Alonso. Kelly dumped DeSean Jackson last year, now McCoy is gone. Will he try to trade up to take former Oregon QB Mariota in the draft? If he does, hope he trades Nick Foles to St Louis.

                          6) Knicks and Celtics lost Tuesday.....by a combined 69 points. Oy.

Seriously, if you charge $3,600 a seat for courtside seats, how the hell do you lose at home to Sacramento by 38 points?

                          5) George Karl coaches Sacramento now; he is the Kings' third coach this year. Bet he had a little chuckle when Denver fired Brian Shaw yesterday, because the Nuggets were a pretty good team when Karl coached them, but ownership got impatient with early playoff exits and cleaned house. Not all change is positive.

                          4) NFL went to a 16-game regular season in 1976; since then, Chicago has had the most different starting QBs, 38. Buccaneers have had 36 and #37 will be in September. ESPN had the Browns with 37, but from '76-'95, those Browns are really the Ravens' franchise, so thats not accurate.

                          3) Ray Rice banks $1.59M from the Ravens in a settlement; must be nice. Doubt he gets signed by another NFL team and no way would he ever have a TV career; lot of negative publicity for anyone who signs him. Invest that money wisely, sir.

                          2) Smart move by New York City baseball teams, delaying spring debuts of ARod and Matt Harvey until they can play in games televised by TV stations owned by the team. Harvey pitches for the Mets Friday, SNY's first broadcast of the spring. Alex Rodriguez will be in the lineup today on the YES Network. Smart move.

                          1) College basketball season has become so long; it starts around Veterans' Day and is still going. Most you can have is 13 scholarship players; most teams have less. You get couple injuries, a suspension and you're down to 7 or 8 players. Teams like UNLV, Southern Miss, Michigan, Marquette, even Duke have dangerously thin rosters. Indiana added a football player on January. Thats why teams are wearing down now, just before the fun starts with conference tournaments and the NCAAs.
