    Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

Six of the best minor league prospects for the Baltimore Orioles:

    1) Dylan Bundy, P-- Missed all of 2013 after Tommy John surgery.

    2) Hunter Harvey, P-- First two prospects are both HS pitchers.

    3) Christian Walker, 1B-- Won back/back national titles at South Carolina.

    9) Mike Yaztrzemski, OF-- Vandy alum has a very famous grandfather.

    11) Pat Connaughton, P-- You've seen him play hoop at Notre Dame.

    14) Henry Urrutia, OF-- Got 58 ABs with Orioles in '13; lacks power.

    **********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Sunday......

    13) RIP coach Dean Smith, who passed away at age 83 Saturday night; if you posted a Mt Rushmore of college basketballl coaches, John Wooden, Mike Krzyzewski and Dean Smith would definitely be on it- the fourth coach would be an interesting debate.

Rupp, Knight, Pitino, Donovan, Izzo, Calipari, Self? My choice would be Pitino.

    12) Smith's 4-corner offense is one of the main reasons the shot clock was put into college basketball-- he was an innovator who put lot of coaches into the profession. George Karl, Larry Brown, Roy Williams, Buzz Peterson, Matt Doherty, Jeff Lebo, King Rice, Billy Cunningham, Doug Moe, Scott Cherry, John Kuester, all Tar Heels.

    11) Lookalikes: pro golfer Paul Goydos and Lou Piniella.

    10) Senior Tour golfer Rod Spittle (great name, by the way) finished three shots out of first place yesterday; he had a 10 on the par-5 6th hole. Cost him lot of money.

    9) Blake Griffin has a staph infection in his elbow, is out for at least a couple weeks. Clippers had a rough week on the road; it ain't getting better with Griffin out.

    8) Pelicans' star Anthony Davis sprained his shoulder on a nasty fall Saturday night, is doubtful for their game tonight with Utah.

    7) Former Ravens' RB Jamal Lewis declared for bankruptcy; the Super Bowl ring he got from Raven owner Steve Bisciotti just sold for $50,820 at an auction.

    6) Marv Albert's son Kenny is a very good announcer; he does his homework, asks his analysts good questions and makes broadcasts better, but you would never really notice him. Thats a good thing, by the way. Good play-by-play guys are like a point guard; they set their teammates up and make them better. Albert does that.

    5) Utah State got good news this weekend; QB Chuckie Keeton who is a very good player but has been hurt a lot, got a fifth year of eligibility from the NCAA so he'll be back next fall. Aggies went through four QBs last fall, still went 10-4.

    4) Tony Romo's Pizza Hut commercial? Wasn't sure it was him until about fourth time I saw it. Not sure his face is well-known enough for him to be on it without a Cowboys' logo or his jersey on or something.

    3) Oregon State 64, Washington 50-- Wayne Tinkle might be national Coach of the Year-- his Beavers are 16-7 after not being good for a long time. This is Tinkle's first year in Corvallis; he has some good recruits coming in next year.

    2) Rhode Island 79, Richmond 74-- Danny Hurley's Rams are 16-5 and will be a fun team to follow during Championship Week.

    1) Boise State 61, San Diego State 46-- Boise snapped 7-game losing streak against the Aztecs-- they're doing well despite losing Anthony Drmic, their best player for the season last month.

Game of the Day: Oklahoma State at Baylor
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oklahoma State Cowboys at Baylor Bears (-6.5)

Two teams riding a surge of momentum into the home stretch of the Big 12 season hope to stay hot when No. 19 Baylor hosts Oklahoma State on Monday. The Bears have won three straight and five of their last six and are coming off an 87-69 win at No. 12 West Virginia on Saturday. Oklahoma State has won three of the last five meetings, including a 64-53 victory in Stillwater on Jan. 27, and is trying to complete its first regular-season sweep of the Bears since 2006.

The Cowboys, who are trying to stay afloat in the middle of the Big 12 pack and build their NCAA Tournament resumes, picked up a pair of huge wins at home last week, knocking off Texas and No. 9 Kansas. "For the last week our mentality has been play the next play, move on and don't worry about a call," Oklahoma State coach Travis Ford told reporters. "Don't worry about if you missed a shot. Don't worry about if you turn it over. Move on." Baylor is 13-1 at home, the only defeat a 56-55 loss to Kansas on Jan. 7.

              TV:
              7 p.m. ET, ESPNU

              ABOUT OKLAHOMA STATE (16-7, 6-5 Big 12):
The Cowboys boast one of the top offensive duos in the Big 12 in guard Phil Forte (17 points) and forward Le'Bryan Nash (16.9 points, 5.6 rebounds). Nash has scored in double figures in all 22 games he has played this season, while Forte has hit double digits in 22 of 23 contests. The Cowboys rely on their defense to produce some of their offense, as they've recorded at least five steals in 21 of their 23 games and averaged 10.3 steals over their past four contests.

              ABOUT BAYLOR (18-5, 6-4):
The Bears dominate the glass with a 10.1 rebound margin and a whopping 15.7 offensive boards per game, both of which rank in the top five nationally. They also get balanced scoring with forward Taurean Prince (12.3 points, 5.6 rebounds) and guard Kenny Chery (11.8 points, 4.1 assists) leading a group of four players who average double figures and six who average at least 8.3 points. Power forward Rico Gathers (11 points, 12.5 rebounds) leads Baylor's formidable frontcourt, which should have an advantage inside against the Cowboys.

              TRENDS:

*Under is 5-1 in the Cowboys' last six overall
*Home team is 13-3-1 ATS in their last 17 meetings
*Cowboys are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six matchups
*Bears are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games

              CONSENSUS:
According to Consensus, 59 percent of bets are on the Bears.

                    Monday, February 9

Clippers' PF Blake Griffin, out indefinitely

Griffin has a staph infection in his elbow which will require surgery.

T-Wolves' PG Ricky Rubio, questionable Monday

Rubio did not play Sunday due to a minor ankle injury and is questionable for Monday's game against the Hawks.

Strong defense getting Grizzlies back to under ways

The Memphis Grizzlies' played strong defense in their 94-88 win over the Atlanta Hawks Sunday night, and that has been a trend in their last 11 games, going 1-9-1 over/under in that span.

Memphis has been getting back to their defensive roots, giving up just 88 points per game during the 11 game run that has seen them go over a total just once.

The Grizzlies, who are now 24-25-2 O/U for the season, host the Brooklyn Nets Tuesday.

Sixers providing solid underdog value as of late

Despite being the punchline of many tanking jokes around the Association this year, the Philadelphia 76ers have been providing their backers with some solid value recently - particularly at home.

Fresh off an 89-81 win over the Charlotte Hornets at the Wells Fargo Center Saturday evening, the Sixers have covered the spread in six out of their last seven outings. Philly is also a perfect 4-0 straight-up and ATS in their last four matchups in Pennsylvania.

Michael Carter-Williams and company will be in action yet again on Monday when they welcome the Western Conference-leading Golden State Warriors to town.

NBA roundup: Thunder rout Griffin-less Clippers

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Forward Kevin Durant scored 29 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 131-108 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

The Clippers, who lost their four straight, will be without forward Blake Griffin (staph infection) for four to six weeks.

Guard Jamal Crawford led the Clippers with 21 points off the bench. Guard Chris Paul had 18 points and 13 assists, and center Spencer Hawes added 17 points.

The Thunder rebounded from a crushing loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday with one of their most impressive games of the season.

Guard Russell Westbrook posted 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Thunder, and guard Dion Waiters added 16 points. Forward Mitch McGary racked up his first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

                    Cavaliers 120, Lakers 105

CLEVELAND -- Forward Kevin Love scored a season-high 32 points and added 10 rebounds, and guard Kyrie Irving had 28 points and 10 assists in Cleveland's win over Los Angeles.

The Cavs won for the 13th time in 14 games, and they swept the series with the Lakers for the first time in five years. It was the Lakers' 10th consecutive road defeat, tying a franchise record set in 1957-58 and matched in 1963-64.

Love posted 17 points in the second quarter, including four 3-pointers in a span of 2:07, and he wound up reaching 30 points for just the second time this season. Cleveland forward LeBron James had 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, falling shy of his first triple-double of the season largely because he didn't play the fourth quarter of another blowout.

                    Kings 85, Suns 83

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Center DeMarcus Cousins capped a 28-point night by hitting a jumper from just inside the top of the key at the buzzer, and Sacramento overcame a fourth-quarter collapse to edge Phoenix.

Cousins, who also finished with 12 rebounds, made his shot after the Kings squandered a 73-59 lead entering the quarter. It gave Sacramento at least one more victory under coach Tyrone Corbin, as the Kings played amid reports Corbin may not be on the job much longer.

Guard Ben McLemore added 13 points, and Sacramento ended a six-game home losing streak, its longest in seven seasons, despite playing without forward Rudy Gay (left ankle sprain) and guard Darren Collison (hip flexor). The Kings (18-32) snapped a three-game skid and won for just the second time in 13 games overall. Guard Isaiah Thomas led Phoenix with 26 points.

                    Bulls 98, Magic 97

ORLANDO, Fla. -- All-Star forward Pau Gasol scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Chicago to a come-from-behind victory over Orlando. Gasol scored the winning basket off an offensive rebound with 9.4 seconds remaining.

The Bulls forced the Magic into a turnover with 15 seconds to go, leading to Gasol's winning hoop. Orlando center Nikola Vucevic missed a final chance at the buzzer.

Chicago guard Jimmy Butler had 27 points to lead all scorers. Guard Victor Oladipo paced the Magic with 18 points.

                    Grizzlies 94, Hawks 88

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Point guard Mike Conley scored 21 points and handed out six assists as Memphis defeated Atlanta.

Grizzlies center Marc Gasol had 16 points and 10 rebounds. and power forward Zach Randolph contributed 11 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Jeff Green chipped in 11 points. Point guard Jeff Teague led Atlanta with 22 points and six assists.

The Grizzlies (38-13) had a huge advantage on points in the paint, 52-34, and in rebounds, 55-37.

                    Timberwolves 112, Pistons 101

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Nikola Pekovic had a season-high 29 points, and Minnesota recorded its 10th consecutive victory over Detroit.

Pekovic, Minnesota's starting center, reached the 20-point mark for the first time this season as the Timberwolves won three straight for the first time. Minnesota shooting guard Kevin Martin supplied 24 points and nine rebounds. Rookie forward Andrew Wiggins contributed 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Timberwolves, who never trailed.

Point guard D.J. Augustin's 20 points and eight assists led the Pistons, who were swept in the season series with the Timberwolves for the fifth consecutive season. Detroit center Andre Drummond powered for 17 points and 14 rebounds.

                    Pacers 103, Hornets 102

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Guard George Hill hit a reverse layup with 5.1 seconds remaining, and Indiana completed a wild comeback and stunned Charlotte.

The Pacers trailed by 21 with 5:03 remaining in the third quarter, but roared back from there to win their third straight and their fifth in the last seven games.

Charlotte led 102-101 after a 3-pointer by forward Marvin Williams with 14.7 seconds left. The Pacers inbounded to Hill, who drove the baseline, pivoted under the basket, and suddenly saw a clear path to the basket. Hornets guard Brian Roberts missed a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.

                    Trail Blazers 109, Rockets 98

HOUSTON -- Nicolas Batum made just two baskets, but his second proved critical, a 3-pointer with the shot clock expiring that helped Portland escape with a win over Houston.

Trail Blazers All-Stars LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard scored 24 and 23 points, respectively, while the Portland bench added 37 points. However, it was Batum who pushed Portland to a 103-96 lead with 1:26 remaining by drilling a pull-up 3-pointer as the horn sounded.

Rockets guard James Harden matched his season high with 45 points, one off his career best, and added nine rebounds and eight assists. But aside from reserve forward Josh Smith (16 points, five rebounds, four assists), who matched his career high of four 3-pointers for a second consecutive game, Harden was largely alone carrying Houston.

                    Raptors 87, Spurs 82

TORONTO -- Forward James Johnson hit a 3-pointer in the final minute and later added a free throw as Toronto denied San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich his 1,000th career win.

The Spurs had a chance to tie with 4.4 seconds to play, but forward Tim Duncan threw the ball away for the Spurs' 15th turnover of the game. Guard DeMar DeRozan added two free throws with 3.4 seconds left to clinch the Raptors' second win in a row.

James Johnson finished with 20 points to lead the Raptors, while DeRozan had 18. Guard Marco Belinelli and Duncan had 12 points each to lead the Spurs.
