Instant rivalries can be created in a game as big as the Super Bowl so to get you ready for this Sunday’s showdown in Arizona between the Patriots and the Seahawks there are a couple of huge rivalry matchups earlier in the day in men’s college basketball.

First off in the ACC, Miami will go on the road to tangle with Florida State. A bit later that afternoon in one of the biggest rivalries in the Big Ten, Michigan and Michigan State will clash at the Breslin Center.

No. 23 Miami Hurricanes at Florida State Seminoles (ESPNU, 12:30 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: Miami -2 ½

The Hurricanes will try and quickly erase the memory of this past Thursday’s 70-50 meltdown against Georgia Tech as 9 ½-point home favorites. It was their third loss in the ACC against four victories straight up and they have gone 3-3-1 against the spread in those seven games. Miami has covered in four of five road games this season. A pair of junior guards in Sheldon McClellan (14.6 points) and Angel Rodriguez (13.7 points) have led the way for a Hurricanes’ offense that is averaging 69.4 points per game. McClellan is shooting 51 percent from the floor and Rodriguez is dishing-out a team-high 4.6 assists.

It has been a rough start for the Seminoles in the ACC this season with a SU record of 3-5, but they are coming off a solid 82-76 victory against Wake Forest this past Thursday as 4 ½-point home favorites. They have now covered in their last three games and the total has gone OVER in three of their last five outings. Freshman guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes put-up 22 points in Thursday’s win and he leads the Seminoles in scoring with 14.2 points per game. Florida State is averaging 69.6 PPG and shooting 46.3 percent from the field. However, on the other end of the court they are allowing almost as many points (68.9).

Betting Trends

-- The Hurricanes are 5-7-1 ATS in 13 previous games as favorites and they have failed to cover in their last four road games as favorites. The total has gone OVER in their last five games on the road.

-- The Seminoles are 4-1 ATS in their last five home game and they are 4-6 ATS in their last 10 games as underdogs. The total has gone OVER in four of six home games this season.

-- Head-to-head in this matchup, Miami has a 4-2 SU edge in the last six meetings, but the series is evenly split 3-3 ATS. The total went OVER in four of the six games.

Michigan Wolverines at Michigan State Spartans (CBS, 1:00 p.m. ET)

Opening Odds: OFF (Injuries)

The Wolverines bounced back from a tough 69-64 loss to Wisconsin as 10 ½-point home underdogs with a solid 58-44 romp against Nebraska as 2 ½-point favorites at home this past Tuesday. They have now covered in their last three outings and the total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games. Michigan is ranked 254th in the nation in scoring with 64.5 PPG and it is shooting just 41.5 percent from the field, but it remains fairly stout on defense by holding teams to 61.2 PPG. The loss of junior guard Caris LeVert with a fractured foot has not helped the cause after averaging a team-high 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists and another guard Derrick Walton remains questionable with an injured toe.

Michigan State had to wait two extra days because of snow, but it still hammered Rutgers 71-51 this past Thursday as an 8 ½-point road favorite. It was the first time the Spartans covered in their last five games verse a 3-2 record SU. They are 5-3 SU in Big Ten play and the total has stayed OVER five of the eight games. Michigan State has done a fairly good job at putting the ball in the hoop with 73.5 PPG and it is shooting a respectable 47.5 percent from the field. A pair of guards in senior Travis Trice and junior Denzel Valentine are each averaging 14 PPG and senior guard/forward Branden Dawson is chipping-in another 11.6 points while leading the team in rebounds with 10.1 a game.

-- The Wolverines are 2-4 ATS in six previous road games this season and they are 3-4 ATS in seven games as underdogs. The total has stayed UNDER in four of their six games on the road.

-- The Spartans have covered in seven of 12 games played at home but they are 2-4 ATS in their last six games as favorites. The total has gone 5-3-1 in their last nine home games.

-- The road team in this matchup has won six of the last eight meetings SU and the total has stayed UNDER in five of the last seven games. Michigan holds a 3-1 SU edge in the last four games.

13) Lets get the unpleasant stuff out of the way first. If you read this space at all, you know that I'm a Ram fan and Kurt Warner was obviously one of my all-time favorite players, so I'm disappointed the voters bypassed him this year for the Hall of Fame, as well as Orlando Pace, Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt, all ex-Rams.

12) Just to re-hash facts, which apparently aren't very important because it is hard to compare a QB to an offensive lineman, there have been 48 Super Bowls, which is 96 QBs: #1, #2, #3 on the Super Bowl passing yardage list is same person, the same guy who led the tying or go-ahead TD drives in the last 3:00 of all three games.

11) Steve Young got in in his first year of eligibiity; he had an 8-6 playoff record in the NFL, had a 3-16 record when he played for the woeful Bucs. He inherited a great team from Joe Montana and went 8-6 in playoff games. Kurt Warner played for two cruddy franchises and went 9-4 in playoff games. Yet Young got in on his first shot.

9) VCU lost the heart of its defense, Briante Weber, who tore his MCL/ACL and is done for the season. Sad thing; tough way for a college career to end.

7) Apparently Bill Walton called former President Richard Nixon "the prince of darkness": during the Colorado-UCLA game Saturday night. DirecTV doesn't carry the Pac-12 network, so I didn't hear this myself. Walton is tremendous on TV, but if he is going to go on political rants, will be interesting to see how long he lasts.

6) Cal Poly basketball coach Joe Callero is one of 16 children. Oklahoma City big guy Steven Adams is the youngest of 17 kids. Do familises this like live in a hotel? How do you remember all the kids' names?

5) Junior Seau will be the 12th USC Trojan to get inducted into Canton.

4) There was a furor on Twitter late Saturday night when it came out that an MVP vote was cast for Seahawk LB Bobby Wagner, who missed five games this year and is not close to being the MVP of anything.

Not Aaron Rodgers or JJ Watt, but Bobby Wagner. Oy.

It got even weirder when someone found out who voted for Wagner. Twitter got very quiet-- it was Tony Dungy. Not too many folks seemed anxious to rip him for it, but they did seem mystified by it.

3) If you live near a Sonic fast food place, they have half-price foot long hot dogs on Monday, to commemorate Groundhog Day, or KL Wheat's birthday.

2) Now Dan Rooney wants a Super Bowl in Pittsburgh. We're getting eight inches of snow here in upstate New York the next couple days. If the NFL keeps screwing around with cold weather Super Bowls, eventually they'll have a weather debacle on their hands- they narrowly missed one last year.

1) This is a weird time of year; its middle of the night and I'm watching live tennis, golf from the other side of the world. At least it is warm somewhere. Pitchers, catchers report in less than three weeks; spring is getting closer!!!

Five of their last seven games were decided by 5 or less points or in OT. Seminoles lost four of last six, with last three games decided by 4 or less points or in OT- they're 2-1 at home in ACC, losing by 9 at NC State, beating Wake, Va Tech. ACC home teams are 4-6 in games with spread of less than 4 points.

Oakland was 3-0 vs Youngstown LY, despite allowing 81+ points in all three games; Penguins lost 87-81 in LY's game here. Oakland won its last five games, but all were at home; they've lost last seven road games, with only road win in ten tries in OT at Morehead State. Younstown is 1-8 in Horizon, upsetting Detroit in last home game; they're 1-3 in Horizon home games, losing by 9-13-15 points. Horizon home underdogs of less than 5 points are 5-1 vs spread.

UConn pounded Houston by 37 at home LY after losing by 4 here in the first meeting; Huskies lost last three road games by 4-13-12 points, have 11-8 record, which is NIT material. Cougars snapped 8-game skid with a win over crosstown rival Rice; they're 0-8 in AAC, 0-3 at home, losing by 1-18-3 points. AAC home underdogs of 6+ points are 2-4 vs spread. UConn is turning ball over 21.9% of time, Cougars are shooting 29% on the arc in AAC games.

California lost eight of last ten games but one of wins was 81-75 victory over Washington Jan 2; Bears turned ball over only four times that day, are 1-2 on Pac-12 road, losing by 14-19 at LA schools, winning last game in Pullman. Cal won last three series games by 26-13-6 points. Huskies lost shotblocking C Upshaw for year, lost their last two games by 21-10 points. Washington lost six of last nine overall with home loss to Stony Brook. Pac-12 home favorites of 8 or less points are 13-6 vs spread.

Quinnipac was 3-0 vs Niagara in its first MAAC season, winning by 14-2-9 points, winning 90-88 here; Bobcats won three of last four on road, losing by 6 at Canisius Friday, which snapped three-game winning streak. Niagara lost at home to #324 Marist Friday; they're 3-17, losing last nine games, but their last three MAAC home losses were all by four points or less. MAAC home underdogs of 6 or less points are 8-4-1 vs spread.

Following a surprising setback against Georgia Tech last time out, No. 23 Miami (Fla.) looks to rebound when it visits Florida State on Sunday. The Hurricanes had won four of their last five before the 20-point drubbing at home on Wednesday, leaving coach Jim Larranaga lamenting a Jekyll-and-Hyde showing by his club. "This team probably has the widest range of performance I've ever seen," Larranaga said. "They can be absolutely great one night and you just don't recognize them the next day."

The Seminoles needed two overtimes to knock off Wake Forest in their latest outing and with two wins in their last three games, along with a narrow loss to No. 14 North Carolina, coach Leonard Hamilton sees his team maturing in front of his eyes. "They're growing up. They're learning. It shows they have ACC potential," Hamilton told reporters. Freshman Xavier Rathan-Mayes continues to impress for Florida State, finishing with 21 points last time out, including a clutch field goal and free throws that helped seal the win.

"We have to win games by committee," said Hamilton. "We're learning the level we have to play at to compete in the new and improved ACC. This is a rock 'em, sock 'em league now." Rathan-Mayes is Florida State's leading scorer, averaging 14.2 points, while Montay Brandon adds 12.7 and a team-high 5.4 rebounds.

ABOUT MIAMI (14-6 SU, 8-10 ATS, 7-5 O/U): Like Rathan-Mayes for the Seminoles, the Hurricanes have been sparked this season by a newcomer to the program in junior guard Angel Rodriguez. Top 25 roundup: Duke hands Virginia its first loss

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Duke trailed Virginia 61-55 with 3:41 to play, but the fourth-ranked Blue Devils went on a furious 14-2 run that propelled Duke to a 69-63 upset win over previously undefeated and second-ranked Virginia on Saturday.

Duke guard Quinn Cook hit two late-game 3-pointers, including one with1:19 to play, to give the Blue Devils a 66-63 lead. Freshman guard Tyus Jones added the dagger with a 3-pointer of his own with 11 seconds left, spoiling the Cavaliers' pursuit of perfection.

Jones led the Blue Devils with 17 points, fellow freshman Justice Winslow added 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Cook scored 15. Duke (18-3, 5-3 ACC) shot 51 percent for the game and was the first team to shoot 50 percent or better against Virginia this season.

Virginia (19-1, 7-1) used a 28-8 run that spanned the closing minutes of the first half and the opening minutes of the second to move ahead. The Cavaliers led by as many as 11 points with 13:38 to play. They managed just two points in the final three minutes, however, as their drought proved to be their demise.

Guard Malcolm Brogdon led Virginia with 17 points.

Kentucky 70, Alabama 55

LEXINGTON, Ky. — No. 1 Kentucky ran its record to 21-0 and became the only remaining undefeated team in the nation after Virginia lost to Duke.

After Kentucky played in a bruising game at Missouri on Thursday night during which 54 fouls were called, there was concern the Wildcats might be sluggish facing Alabama less than 48 hours later. Instead, Kentucky roared out to a 22-7 lead and never looked back.

Kentucky shot 58.5 percent from the field, made 7 of 15 from three-point range and had just five turnovers. Freshman forward Karl-Anthony Towns and junior forward Willie Cauley-Stein each scored 12 points for the Wildcats.

Alabama (13-8, 3-5 SEC) was led by sophomore forward Shannon Hale with 13 points.

Gonzaga 82, Memphis 64

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Center Przemek Karnowski scored 17 points, leading five players in double figures for No. 3 Gonzaga in a nonconference win over Memphis.

Forward Kyle Wiltjer scored 15 points for the Bulldogs (22-1), who have won 15 consecutive games and 37 straight at home. Forward Domantas Sabonis added 13 points and 11 rebounds, point guard Kevin Pangos had 11 points and guard Gary Bell Jr. scored 10.

Reserve swingman Nick King led Memphis (13-8) with 13 points and forward Austin Nichols added 12.

Wisconsin 74, Iowa 63

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- It wasn't quite the 32-point onslaught 11 days earlier in Madison, but the fifth-ranked Badgers picked up their second victory over the Hawkeyes this season.

The win was the fifth straight for Wisconsin against Iowa dating back to the 2012-13 season and more importantly for the Badgers keeps them alone in first place of the Big Ten at 7-1 in the league (19-2 overall).

Meanwhile, the Hawkeyes have now lost three straight games and sit at 4-4 in the Big Ten (13-8 overall).

Leading the way for Wisconsin was senior center Frank Kaminsky, who posted a game-high 24 points on 7-of-14 shooting and also tallied nine rebounds. Forward Nigel Hayes had 14 points, while forward Sam Dekker and guard Josh Gasser both finished with 11 points.

Iowa forward Aaron White led the Hawkeyes with a team-high 15 points and seven rebounds.

Villanova 68, DePaul 55

ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Guard Ryan Arcidiacono scored a game-high 18 points to lead the No. 7 Villanova Wildcats over the Blue Demons.

Forward JayVaughn Pinkston added 14 points for Villanova (19-2, 6-2 Big East), which outscored DePaul 37-18 in the second half to erase a six-point halftime deficit.

Guard Billy Garrett Jr. scored 14 points to lead DePaul (11-12, 5-5), which dropped its third consecutive game and has lost five of seven.

Pitt 76, Notre Dame 72

PITTSBURGH -- James Robinson's jumper with 12 seconds left put Pittsburgh ahead and he added a clinching free throw with 1.6 seconds remaining as the Panthers ended No. 8 Notre Dame's five-game winning streak.

Robinson, a junior guard, put Pitt in front 73-72 with his jumper before Notre Dame senior forward Pat Connaughton missed a 3-point shot from the right corner. Panthers forward Jamel Artis grabbed the rebound, was fouled and made two free throws with four seconds left to make it a three-point game.

Robinson stole the inbounds pass and was fouled as Pitt (14-8, 4-5 ACC) snapped its three-game losing streak and improved to 14-3 against top 10 team at the Petersen Events Center, which opened at the beginning of the 2002-03 season.

After being held to five points through the first 37 minutes, Notre Dame guard Jerian Grant scored nine consecutive points to put the Irish ahead 72-71. Yet it wasn't enough for Notre Dame (20-3, 8-2), which lost for only the second time in its last 18 games.

Kansas 68, Kansas State 55

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Perry Ellis notched a double-double by halftime and the junior forward finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds as No. 9 Kansas tripped Kansas State.

Ellis was particularly adept inside, using his quickness against the small Wildcats to go 7-for-9 from the field and the Jayhawks (18-3) remained atop the Big 12 by improving to 7-1.

Guard Wayne Selden added 14 points, going 3-for-6 from 3-point range, for the Jayhawks as they won their 19th straight at home.

Forward Thomas Gipson and guard Marcus Foster scored 19 points each to pace Kansas State (12-10, 5-4 Big 12).

Louisville 78, North Carolina 68 (OT)

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Tenth-ranked Louisville erased an 18-point second-half deficit to rally past No. 13 North Carolina in overtime at the KFC Yum Center.

Sophomore guard Terry Rozier had eight points and two assists as the Cardinals (18-3, 6-2 ACC) outscored the Tar Heels 18-8 in overtime. He finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds in Louisville's first home win this season in four tries over a ranked opponent.

North Carolina (17-5, 7-2) beat Louisville 72-71 three weeks ago in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Junior forward Montrezl Harrell added 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Cardinals, and guard Chris Jones had 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.

Guard Marcus Paige had 15 points and forward J.P. Tokoto added 11 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina, which made 26 of 60 shots from the field and just 11 of 20 free throws. The Tar Heels led by 18 points early in the second half, but the Cardinals chipped away and sent the game to overtime despite having a last-second shot to win.

Northern Iowa 70, Wichita State 54

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Forward Seth Tuttle scored a career-high 29 points while guard Wes Washpun added 16 off the bench as No. 18 Northern Iowa routed No. 12 Wichita State.

The host Panthers (20-2, 9-1 MVC) extended their home winning streak to 14 and overall run to nine straight.

Wichita State (19-3, 9-1) saw a two-season, 27-game Missouri Valley Conference winning streak snapped as guard Fred VanVleet scored 18 points while guard Ron Baker added 12.

The closest Creighton (10-13, 1-9) got in the final 13 minutes was 17 points.

Richmond 64, VCU 52

RICHMOND, Va. -- Guard Kendall Anthony scored 20 of his game-high 22 points over the final 20 minutes and forward Terry Allen added 15 to lead the Spiders to an upset of No. 14 Virginia Commonwealth.

Anthony, the smallest player on the court at 5-foot-8, proved to be the biggest. The Tennessee native answered every run VCU made in the second half with a variety of moves and shots.

Following a basket by Rams sophomore guard Doug Brooks to end an extended Spiders run, Anthony scored four straight baskets to increase Richmond's lead to 39-32.

Iowa State 83, TCU 66

AMES, Iowa -- The 15th-ranked Cyclones waited until the second half to wake up and put away TCU.

With guard Monte Morris and forward Georges Niang leading the way, Iowa State looked like the team in contention for a Big 12 title in the final 14 minutes.

Five points by Niang keyed a 7-0 run that turned a back-and-forth game into a 12-point lead with 12:43 to go. Morris took over midway through the half, hitting back-to-back layups to cap an 8-0 run by Iowa State.

Niang led the Cyclones (16-4, 6-2) with 23 points. He also had eight rebounds and three assists. Morris added 16 points and six assists.

TCU (14-7, 1-7) was led by guard Trey Zeigler, who scored 14 points.

West Virginia 77, Texas Tech 58

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- No. 17 West Virginia's defense did its part by forcing 26 turnovers and Devin Williams scored 18 points in a rout of Texas Tech.

Guard Daxter Miles scored 12 points and guard Juwan Staten contributed 11 points and five assists as the Mountaineers (18-3, 6-2 Big 12) surpassed last season's win total before the end of January.

Guard Robert Turner scored 18 points for Texas Tech (11-11, 1-8), but was shut out in the second half.

Baylor 83, Texas 60

WACO, Texas -- Baylor jumped ahead of Texas from the opening tip and guard Kenny Chery made sure the Bears stayed in front. Chery had 23 points and four assists as the 20th-ranked Bears stomped the 19th-ranked Longhorns at the Ferrell Center.

Chery's 3-pointer with 5:56 left gave Baylor an 18-point lead, its largest to that point. Texas, which scored 47 points in the final 12 minutes earlier in the week to push Iowa State until the closing seconds, couldn't come up with a similar surge against the Bears.

Bears forward Royce O’Neale scored 20 points and combined with Chery to hit seven 3-pointers. Baylor forward Rico Gathers pitched in with eight points and 15 rebounds.

Texas forward Jonathan Holmes led the Longhorns with 17 points and center Cameron Ridley posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Georgetown 67, Creighton 40

OMAHA, Neb. -- Any concerns about how No. 21 Georgetown would respond to its 13-point loss to Xavier were quickly erased in a demolition of Creighton.

The Hoyas outclassed the Bluejays for all but six minutes of the Big East game. Creighton went a stretch of 17:18 without a field goal while the Hoyas outscored the Bluejays 31-3 to turn a 15-12 deficit into a 43-18 lead.

Guard D'Vauntes Smith-Rivera led the Hoyas (15-6, 7-3 Big East) with 24 points on 9-of-17 shooting, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range. Guard Jabril Trawick added 15 points.

Indiana 72, Rutgers 64

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Guard James Blackmon Jr. scored 20 points and guard Nick Zeisloft made two key 3-pointers late to send No. 22 Indiana past Rutgers.

The victory kept the Hoosiers (16-6, 6-3) second in the Big Ten. Guard Yogi Ferrell and forward Troy Williams each added 14 points.

Guard Myles Mack scored 24 points and forward Junior Etou added 13 for the Scarlet Knights (10-13, 2-8). Rutgers has lost six straight.

Oklahoma 64, Oklahoma State 56

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Buddy Hield wouldn't stay quiet. Not in Bedlam. The Oklahoma guard, after a scuffling first half, came alive after intermission to lead a surge by the 24th-ranked Sooners at Oklahoma State.

With Oklahoma trailing by seven at the half, Hield scored 12 points in a 25-13 run out of the break. Hield finished with 15 points, 12 coming soon after halftime.

The win gave the Sooners (14-7, 5-4 Big 12) a regular-season sweep over their in-state rival and a four-game winning streak in the series..

Guard Phil Forte led the Cowboys with 15 points, but just four came in the second half.

Butler 72, Marquette 68 (OT)

MILWAUKEE -- Andrew Chrabascz scored six points in overtime as No. 25 Butler rallied over Marquette.

Chrabascz, a 6-foot-7 forward, hit 11 of 17 shots to finish with a game-high 30 points, pacing a Butler offense that shot just 27 percent for the game but went 3-of-5 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free throw line in overtime.

Guard Kellen Dunham added 17 points and guard Alex Barlow 15 for Butler (16-6, 6-3 Big East).

Guards Matt Carlino and Duane Wilson led Marquette (10-11, 2-7) with 18 points each.

13) Darrell Bevell is Seattle's offensive coordinator; he played QB for Wisconsin in college, playing for Barry Alvarez, one of the most run-oriented coaches in the last 30 years. Bevell will now be forever known as the guy who lost a Super Bowl when he threw the ball from the 1-yard line when Seattle has Marshawn Lynch and a running QB, and a timeout in their pocket. Not only was it ill-advised, it didn't work.

By the way, when I say ill-advised, I mean stupid. Not only that, it didn't work. If it is stupid and it works, the guy is still a hero, but if it doesn't.....

12) Bevell is no idiot; he has been in the NFL since 2000, but you have to wonder if this will prevent him from getting a head coaching job. How do you sell to your fans "We just hired the guy who threw the ball on the 1 when he had Marshawn?"

8) Seattle WR Chris Matthews is the 4th receiver whose first NFL catch came in a Super Bowl; he spent part of this season working in a Foot Locker. Maybe the Jets should've signed Matthews from Foot Locker and not traded for Percy Harvin, saving a high draft pick in the process.

7) There is a disturbing program called Friday Night Tykes on the Esquire Network about youth football in Texas. I spent eight bizarre springs coaching Little League and it is not something I miss-- people get crazy where their kids are concerned.

6) Patriots have not scored a first quarter point in all six Brady/Belichick Super Bowls, but they won four of the six, with all six decided by 4 or less points.

5) In fairness to coach Bevell, Marshawn Lynch had five previous runs from the one-yard line this season and had scored only one touchdown, so there is that. Still think it was a dumb play call, but there was logic behind it, obviously.

4) Five of the seven WRs who caught a pass in this game were undrafted free agents. Maybe personnel guys are as important or more important than the coaches?

3) Seattle's Bruce Irvin got tossed for being an instigator in a scuffle after the Pats took a knee after the INT; he is the first player ever ejected from a Super Bowl.

2) Pete Carroll showed class by taking reposibility for the fateful play call, but it will be interesting to see going forward, which coaches leave and stay in Seattle. Dan Quinn will be going to Atlanta as head coach Tuesday; would be take Bevell with him? Would the Seahawks block Bevell from leaving?

1) At the end of the day, the NFL wins by having a memorable game cap a season where far too many off-field stories overshadowed the game on the field.

With consecutive victories over Kansas, No. 16 Iowa State has already proven it can be a serious contender for the Big 12 crown. The Cyclones can take another huge step in that direction Monday as they eye a regular-season sweep of the 11th-ranked Jayhawks. Iowa State, which beat Kansas 94-83 last March en route to its first conference tournament title in 14 years, edged Kansas 86-81 at home on Jan. 17 for its first back-to-back wins in this series since 2001.

The Cyclones remained a game back of the Jayhawks with Saturday’s 83-66 home victory over TCU, but have dropped their last two road contests and need to end a nine-game skid at Allen Fieldhouse to pull into a first-place tie with Kansas. The Jayhawks notched their fourth consecutive win since suffering their only conference loss, downing Kansas State 68-57 on Saturday. The triumph over the Wildcats extended Kansas’ home winning streak to 19 and improved its record under 12th-year coach Bill Self at Allen Fieldhouse to 185-9.

Big Monday in men’s college basketball on ESPN features a matchup in the ACC between two nationally ranked teams coming off a tough loss when Virginia pays a visit to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina followed by a Big 12 showdown between two national powers coming off a pair of impressive wins when Iowa State and Kansas clash at Allen Fieldhouse.

The Tar Heels failed to reach their season scoring average of 79.5 points and they shot 43.3 percent from the field as opposed to a field goal percentage of 46.6 on the year.
