        Monday, February 9

Clippers' PF Blake Griffin, out indefinitely

Griffin has a staph infection in his elbow which will require surgery.

T-Wolves' PG Ricky Rubio, questionable Monday

Rubio did not play Sunday due to a minor ankle injury and is questionable for Monday's game against the Hawks.

Strong defense getting Grizzlies back to under ways

The Memphis Grizzlies' played strong defense in their 94-88 win over the Atlanta Hawks Sunday night, and that has been a trend in their last 11 games, going 1-9-1 over/under in that span.

Memphis has been getting back to their defensive roots, giving up just 88 points per game during the 11 game run that has seen them go over a total just once.

The Grizzlies, who are now 24-25-2 O/U for the season, host the Brooklyn Nets Tuesday.

Sixers providing solid underdog value as of late

Despite being the punchline of many tanking jokes around the Association this year, the Philadelphia 76ers have been providing their backers with some solid value recently - particularly at home.

Fresh off an 89-81 win over the Charlotte Hornets at the Wells Fargo Center Saturday evening, the Sixers have covered the spread in six out of their last seven outings. Philly is also a perfect 4-0 straight-up and ATS in their last four matchups in Pennsylvania.

Michael Carter-Williams and company will be in action yet again on Monday when they welcome the Western Conference-leading Golden State Warriors to town.

NBA roundup: Thunder rout Griffin-less Clippers

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Forward Kevin Durant scored 29 points to lead the Oklahoma City Thunder to a 131-108 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

The Clippers, who lost their four straight, will be without forward Blake Griffin (staph infection) for four to six weeks.

Guard Jamal Crawford led the Clippers with 21 points off the bench. Guard Chris Paul had 18 points and 13 assists, and center Spencer Hawes added 17 points.

The Thunder rebounded from a crushing loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday with one of their most impressive games of the season.

Guard Russell Westbrook posted 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Thunder, and guard Dion Waiters added 16 points. Forward Mitch McGary racked up his first career double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

        Cavaliers 120, Lakers 105

CLEVELAND -- Forward Kevin Love scored a season-high 32 points and added 10 rebounds, and guard Kyrie Irving had 28 points and 10 assists in Cleveland's win over Los Angeles.

The Cavs won for the 13th time in 14 games, and they swept the series with the Lakers for the first time in five years. It was the Lakers' 10th consecutive road defeat, tying a franchise record set in 1957-58 and matched in 1963-64.

Love posted 17 points in the second quarter, including four 3-pointers in a span of 2:07, and he wound up reaching 30 points for just the second time this season. Cleveland forward LeBron James had 22 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, falling shy of his first triple-double of the season largely because he didn't play the fourth quarter of another blowout.

        Kings 85, Suns 83

SACRAMENTO, Calif. --- Center DeMarcus Cousins capped a 28-point night by hitting a jumper from just inside the top of the key at the buzzer, and Sacramento overcame a fourth-quarter collapse to edge Phoenix.

Cousins, who also finished with 12 rebounds, made his shot after the Kings squandered a 73-59 lead entering the quarter. It gave Sacramento at least one more victory under coach Tyrone Corbin, as the Kings played amid reports Corbin may not be on the job much longer.

Guard Ben McLemore added 13 points, and Sacramento ended a six-game home losing streak, its longest in seven seasons, despite playing without forward Rudy Gay (left ankle sprain) and guard Darren Collison (hip flexor). The Kings (18-32) snapped a three-game skid and won for just the second time in 13 games overall. Guard Isaiah Thomas led Phoenix with 26 points.

        Bulls 98, Magic 97

ORLANDO, Fla. -- All-Star forward Pau Gasol scored 25 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Chicago to a come-from-behind victory over Orlando. Gasol scored the winning basket off an offensive rebound with 9.4 seconds remaining.

The Bulls forced the Magic into a turnover with 15 seconds to go, leading to Gasol's winning hoop. Orlando center Nikola Vucevic missed a final chance at the buzzer.

Chicago guard Jimmy Butler had 27 points to lead all scorers. Guard Victor Oladipo paced the Magic with 18 points.

        Grizzlies 94, Hawks 88

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Point guard Mike Conley scored 21 points and handed out six assists as Memphis defeated Atlanta.

Grizzlies center Marc Gasol had 16 points and 10 rebounds. and power forward Zach Randolph contributed 11 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Jeff Green chipped in 11 points. Point guard Jeff Teague led Atlanta with 22 points and six assists.

The Grizzlies (38-13) had a huge advantage on points in the paint, 52-34, and in rebounds, 55-37.

        Timberwolves 112, Pistons 101

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. -- Nikola Pekovic had a season-high 29 points, and Minnesota recorded its 10th consecutive victory over Detroit.

Pekovic, Minnesota's starting center, reached the 20-point mark for the first time this season as the Timberwolves won three straight for the first time. Minnesota shooting guard Kevin Martin supplied 24 points and nine rebounds. Rookie forward Andrew Wiggins contributed 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Timberwolves, who never trailed.

Point guard D.J. Augustin's 20 points and eight assists led the Pistons, who were swept in the season series with the Timberwolves for the fifth consecutive season. Detroit center Andre Drummond powered for 17 points and 14 rebounds.

        Pacers 103, Hornets 102

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Guard George Hill hit a reverse layup with 5.1 seconds remaining, and Indiana completed a wild comeback and stunned Charlotte.

The Pacers trailed by 21 with 5:03 remaining in the third quarter, but roared back from there to win their third straight and their fifth in the last seven games.

Charlotte led 102-101 after a 3-pointer by forward Marvin Williams with 14.7 seconds left. The Pacers inbounded to Hill, who drove the baseline, pivoted under the basket, and suddenly saw a clear path to the basket. Hornets guard Brian Roberts missed a desperation 3-pointer at the buzzer.

        Trail Blazers 109, Rockets 98

HOUSTON -- Nicolas Batum made just two baskets, but his second proved critical, a 3-pointer with the shot clock expiring that helped Portland escape with a win over Houston.

Trail Blazers All-Stars LaMarcus Aldridge and Damian Lillard scored 24 and 23 points, respectively, while the Portland bench added 37 points. However, it was Batum who pushed Portland to a 103-96 lead with 1:26 remaining by drilling a pull-up 3-pointer as the horn sounded.

Rockets guard James Harden matched his season high with 45 points, one off his career best, and added nine rebounds and eight assists. But aside from reserve forward Josh Smith (16 points, five rebounds, four assists), who matched his career high of four 3-pointers for a second consecutive game, Harden was largely alone carrying Houston.

        Raptors 87, Spurs 82

TORONTO -- Forward James Johnson hit a 3-pointer in the final minute and later added a free throw as Toronto denied San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich his 1,000th career win.

The Spurs had a chance to tie with 4.4 seconds to play, but forward Tim Duncan threw the ball away for the Spurs' 15th turnover of the game. Guard DeMar DeRozan added two free throws with 3.4 seconds left to clinch the Raptors' second win in a row.

James Johnson finished with 20 points to lead the Raptors, while DeRozan had 18. Guard Marco Belinelli and Duncan had 12 points each to lead the Spurs.

              Monday's Top Action

              February 9, 2015

              L.A. Clippers (33-19) at Dallas Mavericks (35-18)

              Tip-off: Monday, 8:35 p.m. ET
              Sportsbook.ag Line: Dallas -8.5, Total: 208

The Clippers look to avoid a five-game losing streak with a win over the Mavericks in Dallas on Monday.

Los Angeles went into Oklahoma City on Sunday and the team lost 131-108 as seven-point road underdogs. The Clippers have now lost four straight games and they’ve also failed to cover in each of them. Their defense has been the real problem lately, as Los Angeles is now allowing 115.3 PPG over its past four games.

The Mavericks, meanwhile, have now won-and-covered in two straight and they have also won five of their past six games SU.

These two teams have met just once this season and the Clippers won that game 120-100 as 3.5-point favorites at Staples Center. In the past five meetings between these teams, the Clippers are 4-1 SU and 3-2 ATS. Los Angeles has also won-and-covered in two straight games in Dallas and three of its past four as well. The past three games between these teams in Dallas have gone Over the total. The Clippers are 3-12 ATS this season after playing a game with a combined score of 215 points or more. They are, however, 5-2 ATS over the past three seasons after having lost four of their past five games. The Mavericks, meanwhile, are 3-0 ATS this season when revenging a road loss of 10 points or more versus an opponent.

PF Blake Griffin (Elbow) and SG J.J. Redick (Back) are both out indefinitely for the Clippers and PG Rajon Rondo (Facial) is out indefinitely for the Mavericks. PF Glen Davis (Back) is listed as questionable for Los Angeles in this one.

The Clippers have been playing some miserable basketball lately and they’ll now need to move forward without PF Blake Griffin (22.5 PPG, 7.5 RPG, 5.1 APG), who needs elbow surgery and is out indefinitely.

PF Spencer Hawes (6.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG) is the player who will see the most minutes in the Clippers’ power forward spot now. Hawes played 35 minutes against Oklahoma City and had 17 points, but he did only grab one rebound. Hawes isn’t nearly as athletic as Griffin, but he does have a very nice outside shot (34% 3PT). He’ll stretch the defense out and add some more shot-blocking to this team, but the Clippers will really need C DeAndre Jordan (10.3 PPG, 13.4 RPG, 2.3 BPG) to make up for the rebounding they’re losing with Griffin out. Jordan is averaging just 8.5 PPG and 8.5 RPG over the past two contests and he will need to be much more effective than that if the Clippers are going to stay afloat.

PG Chris Paul (17.7 PPG, 9.6 APG, 4.8 RPG, 1.9 SPG) played well against the Thunder, finishing with 18 points, 13 assists and six rebounds in 36 minutes. He also added three steals in the game. With Griffin out, Los Angeles will need Paul to be more aggressive as a scorer and he should be up for the task. He has a great matchup in this game, facing a Mavericks team that is depleted at the point guard position.

SG Jamal Crawford (15.8 PPG, 2.6 APG) is averaging 20.5 PPG over the past two contests and he will need to do a lot of the same until SG J.J. Redick (14.4 PPG) returns from injury. There is even more pressure on Crawford to score with Griffin out, and he’ll need to hold his own in a matchup with SG Monta Ellis (20.4 PPG, 4.6 APG, 1.8 SPG) on Monday.

The Mavericks have played very well recently, and they are doing so without PG Rajon Rondo (8.7 PPG, 8.7 APG, 1.6 SPG).

PF Dirk Nowitzki (18.3 PPG, 5.8 RPG) was excellent in a win over the Blazers on Saturday, pouring in 25 points (11-for-19 FG, 3-for-6 3PT) in 35 minutes. Nowitzki should be able to have a good game against Los Angeles on Monday, as he’ll be going up against a much slower Spencer Hawes. His quickness should really give Hawes problems and the Mavericks will likely feature Nowitzki heavily in this one.

SF Chandler Parsons (15.7 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 2.3 APG) is also in a groove for Dallas lately. He’s now scored 18+ points in three of the past four games and he’s going to be facing a Clippers team that is very weak at the small forward position. Dallas would be wise to exploit its mismatch there by getting Parsons some good looks early in the game.

SG Monta Ellis is averaging 20.5 PPG and 6.0 APG over the past two contests and has played very well in Rondo’s absence for this team. Ellis has scored 20+ points in four of the past five games and he’ll need to play well in this one as well. He will be guarded by Jamal Crawford for a majority of this game and should be able to light him up, as Crawford is not a good defender.

PG J.J. Barea (7.3 PPG, 3.3 APG) has filled in well for Rondo, averaging 10.4 PPG, 5.0 APG and 3.4 RPG in 28.0 MPG over the past five games. He’s had 5+ assists in each of the past four and is running the offense very well. This game will be a challenge though, as he’ll be up against Chris Paul. If Barea can come close to holding his own then Dallas should be able to come away with a victory.

New York Knicks (10-41) at Miami Heat (21-29)

              Tip-off: Monday, 7:30 p.m. ET
              Sportsbook.ag Line: Miami -5, Total: 183

Two struggling ball clubs, the New York Knicks and Miami Heat, look to break three-game losing streaks when they meet in sunny Florida this Monday night.

New York is in the midst of a historically bad season and after having a nice run at the end of January, it’s lost the past three games SU (2-1 ATS). They allowed the opponent to make at least 50% of their shots twice in the three contests but did a solid job at keeping the ball out of the opponents hands with a mere 10.3 turnovers per game. The Knicks drew a tough matchup at home in their most recent game as they took on the Warriors while getting 15.5 points and just barely covered in a 106-92 loss. It was the fifth straight game that they scored fewer than 100 points as they made just 35-of-87 shots (40% FG) and gave up 12-of-25 threes (48% 3PM) to the offensive powerhouse that is Golden State.

Miami is treading water at the bottom of the Eastern Conference playoff race and come into this one with defeats in its past three games (1-2 ATS) by an average of 10.3 PPG. All three of the contests were on the road and they actually hit 45% or more of their shots in each game, but showed some poor defensive efforts, allowing 102.7 PPG as the opposition made 119-of-243 attempts (49% FG). The Heat’s last stop on the road trip was San Antonio where they were 12.5-point underdogs and failed to cover in a 98-85 defeat in the NBA Finals rematch. Miami made a mere five three-pointers in the loss as it let the Spurs hit on 48.2% of their shots. New York has had no success when playing away from MSG and is 3-22 SU (12-12-1 ATS) in road games as it goes up against a Miami team that is just 8-15 SU and ATS in South Beach.

These clubs already played a game this year and it was hard to watch as they combined to make mere 61-of-160 shots (38% FG) in an 86-79 win by the Heat as three-point favorites on the road. Overall in the past three seasons it has been a very close matchup between these two teams with Miami holding a slight 5-4 SU and ATS edge and winning each of the past four meetings SU and ATS by an average of 14.3 PPG. Trends show us that the Heat are a putrid 1-12 ATS (8%) in home games after playing four consecutive road contests in the past three seasons and the Knicks are a meager 10-21 ATS (32% FG) after two or more consecutive losses this year.

As far as injuries are concerned, New York has PG Pablo Prigioni (Hip) questionable and Miami will be without SG Dwyane Wade (Hamstring) and has SF Shawne Williams (Hip), C Hassan Whiteside (Ankle) and PF Udonis Haslem (Wrist) listed as questionable.

The Knicks won’t be putting the fear in their opponents on the offensive end as they are averaging 92.7 PPG (3rd-worst in league) and shooting 43.8% from the floor (8th-worst in league). It doesn’t get too much better on the defensive side of the ball with the opposition scoring 100.3 PPG (12th-worst in league) behind 46% shooting (6th-worst in league).

SF Carmelo Anthony (24.1 PPG, 6.7 RPG, 1.0 SPG) rested in the loss against Golden State and had made just 15-of-46 shots (33% FG) in his previous two contests (21.0 PPG). He was the best player on the court in the loss to Miami earlier in the year, going for 31 points with eight rebounds, a steal and a block. PF Amar’e Stoudemire (12.1 PPG, 6.9 RPG) has played minimal minutes in two games since returning from a four-game absence but still did well (13 points, 6 rebounds) over 17 minutes on Saturday. He put together one of his best performances of the year against the Heat in November when he scored 19 points to go with 12 rebounds in the defeat.

PG Langston Galloway (11.4 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 1.1 SPG) has been a nice find for the Knicks this year but has shot just 28.8% on his attempts over the past five games. He’s hit double-digits in eight of his 14 games since making his way from the D-league and will hope to continue that trend in his first career meeting with Miami.

This game is certainly lining up to be a low-scoring affair with the Heat putting up 92.4 PPG (2nd-worst in league) as they make 45.5% of their shots. They have been able to do quite well on defense, though, giving up 96.3 PPG (2nd in league) with their opposition making 45.6 % of their shots (10th-worst in league).

PF Chris Bosh (21.0 PPG, 7.3 RPG) will need to do a ton of heavy lifting in this one and has not looked good (14.0 PPG, 6.0 RPG) in his most recent two performances as he’s shot 38% from the field. He was solid (20 points, 9 rebounds) in the win over the Knicks this year despite making just 7-of-18 shots (39% FG).

C Hassan Whiteside (9.8 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 2.5 BPG) missed his last game and did not practice on Sunday, but there is a chance he will still play and he is an extremely important piece of this team after averaging 17.8 PPG, 15.8 RPG and 2.8 BPG over his past four games. This will be his first career matchup with New York if he is able to go on Monday. SF Luol Deng (14.3 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 1.0 SPG) has been efficient in the past two contests, netting 17.5 PPG on 52% shooting as he played 34 minutes in each outing. Despite going 2-for-11 the first time facing the Knicks this year, he had a productive game with a double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds) and added three steals.

                Monday's Tip Sheet

                February 9, 2015

Spurs at Pacers – 7:05 PM EST

San Antonio’s offense struggled down the stretch in Sunday’s 87-82 setback at Toronto to begin its annual “Rodeo” road trip. The Spurs missed 15 of their final 16 shots in the third quarter, while scoring three points in the last 8:45 of that period. Gregg Popovich’s team shot 33% from the field, as the Spurs dropped to 1-6-1 ATS in the past eight contests. Since mid-December, San Antonio have lost seven of its past 10 on the highway, while scoring 98 points or less eight times in this stretch.

The Pacers erased a 21-point deficit in last night’s 103-102 triumph at Charlotte to extend their winning streak to three, but Indiana failed to cover as two-point road favorites. Frank Vogel’s team is currently on a three-game ‘over’ run, seeking four consecutive ‘overs’ for the first time this season. After starting the season posting an 0-5 ATS record as a home underdog, the Pacers have covered two of their last three when receiving points at Bankers Life Fieldhouse, including Friday’s upset of Cleveland. The Pacers have lost nine of the past 10 meetings with the Spurs, but covered as 13-point underdogs at San Antonio in a 106-100 in late November.

Nets at Bucks – 8:05 PM EST

Two teams in the bottom half of the Eastern Conference playoff race meet in the Jason Kidd bowl. Brooklyn’s three-game winning streak came to a halt in Saturday’s 114-77 blowout loss, as the Nets were held to just 38 points in the first half. The Nets suffered their first ATS loss as an underdog in five tries, but Lionel Hollins’ team has covered eight of their last 11 in the road ‘dog role. Brooklyn looks to avenge a wild triple-overtime loss at the Barclays Center to Milwaukee in mid-November, falling 122-118 as 6 ½-point favorites.

The Bucks are trying to solidify themselves as the sixth-seed in the East, winning six of their last seven games. Milwaukee couldn’t finish off a cover in Saturday’s 96-93 home victory over Boston as 6 ½-point favorites, even though the Bucks shot 49% from the floor. The Fighting Kidds wrapped up January with five straight covers, but the Bucks are just 1-3 ATS in four February contests. Milwaukee has struggled of late cashing tickets as a home favorite, failing to cover in four straight in this role at BMO Harris Center.

Clippers at Mavericks – 8:35 PM EST

The road trip from hell wraps up tonight for Los Angeles, who is coming off consecutive four straight losses and the last three by double-digits. The Clippers were run out early by the Thunder on Sunday, 131-108 as 7 ½-point underdogs, as Blake Griffin was sidelined due to an elbow injury that will keep him out until after the All-Star break. The 131 points allowed were the most given up by Doc Rivers’ squad this season, while the Clippers are now 1-6 ATS on their Grammys road swing.

The Mavericks are getting back on track with victories in five of their last six games, coming off an overtime win over the Blazers on Saturday, 111-101. Dallas rallied from a 16-point deficit for the victory, as both teams shot just 41% from the floor. Rick Carlisle’s team will try to take advantage of this down and out Clippers’ squad as Dallas looks to avenge a 120-100 loss at Staples Center last month. Griffin shot 11-of-15 from the floor in that win, while J.J. Redick scored 16 points, as both players are out, but the Clippers have won each of the past two visits to the American Airlines Center.

Thunder at Nuggets – 9:05 PM EST

Denver has fallen on rocky times of late, dropping 12 of its past 13 games. The Nuggets are riding a five-game SU/ATS skid, while coming off a winless road trip at Philadelphia, Boston, and Detroit. The home-court advantage is gone for the Nuggets, who have lost five consecutive games at the Pepsi Center, while covering just once as 3 ½-point underdogs in an overtime setback to Washington. The Nuggets split a pair of games with the Thunder back in November, as Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant missed both those contests with injuries.

The Thunder has a quick turnaround following Sunday’s 23-point blowout of the Clippers, as OKC received plenty of help off the bench thanks to 50 points from Dion Waiters, Reggie Jackson, and Mitch McGary. Oklahoma City has had some recent issues on the road lately, losing four of its past five on the highway and eight of 13 since knocking off San Antonio on Christmas Day. From an ATS standpoint, the Thunder owns a 2-7 ATS record the past nine games, while going 3-8-1 ATS in the last 12 in the favorite role. In spite of no rest, the Thunder have played very well on the second of a back-to-back with a 7-3 SU and 6-3-1 ATS record in this situation.

                  Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

Six of the best minor league prospects for the Boston Red Sox:

                  1) Blake Swihart, C-- Defense is ahead of offense, at this point.

                  2) Henry Owens, P-- Was starter for US team in Futures Game LY.

                  3) Rusney Castillo, OF-- Cuban defector got a $72.5M contract last summer

                  5) Brian Johnson, P-- Was 10-2, 1.75 in 20 AA starts last season.

                  12) Sam Travis 1B-- Indiana alum hit .313 in his first pro season.

                  17) Sean Coyle 2B/3B-- Hit 16 homers in AA LY, but has been injury-prone.

                  **********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but......

                  13) Padres signed James Shields to a 4-year deal worth $72-76M; Shields has the most innings pitched (1,785.2) of any pitcher since 2007 (223+ IP a year).

                  12) Spurs 95, Pacers 93-- Gregg Popovich gets his 1,000th win as an NBA coach; San Antonio was down 14 points after the third quarter. How would you like to be the reporter who asked the sometimes-surly Popovich what 1,000 wins means to him?

Popovich is the ninth NBA coach with 1,000 wins; he has the second-best winning percentage of those nine. Only Phil Jackson's is better.

                  11) RIP, Mr Ed Sabol, founder of NFL Films, who made the NFL a lot more fun for a lot of us. Miking players, coaches and putting highlights to music were strokes of genius that helped the NFL become as popular as it is.

                  10) Oklahoma 94, Iowa State 83-- Game was 46-all at half, an entertaining game to see; Cyclones are struggling away from home. Oklahoma has now won five in a row.

                  9) Oregon gave football coach Mark Helfrich a new contract for five years, $17.5M; he is 24-4 in two years, with a Rose Bowl win this season.

                  8) Helfrich's new QB in 2015 will be Eastern Washington transfer Vernon Adams, which will be interesting; Ducks open the '15 season against Eastern Washington.

                  7) Lousy day in sports talk radio; someone in New York sent Knicks' owner James Dolan a nasty e-mail telling him low lousy he is, Dolan sent the guy an angrier e-mail in reply and somehow it all became public. Not only were the NYC shows talking about it, the national media was too. Dolan's a billionaire; just hit the delete key.

                  6) Virginia Tech 65, Georgia Tech 63-- Hokies came from behind to win at the end, a game played with great enthusiasm but not tremendous skill. I'm watching this game and I'm like, "This is ACC basketball???" Football has damaged ACC hoop; too many teams, too many smallish crowds at the bottom of this league.

Serious question; where does Syracuse basketball go when Jim Boeheim retires? With probation looming and Boeheim over 70, it could happen sooner than later, but they're in the ACC because of football and the money it generates. The basketball fanbase is spoiled; the next coach has very big shoes to fill. It won't be easy.

                  5) Sacramento Kings stupidly fired coach Mike Malone when they were 11-13; now they're 18-32 and changing coaches again, with George Karl apparently headed to northern California. Owner must have a lot of money to spend.

                  4) Dan Haren has a $10M contract to pitch this season, and said he only wanted to play for a west coast team, but the Dodgers traded him to Miami anyway. Haren did not say much, but did you really think he'd pass up $10M to make 25-30 starts and travel first-class all summer while living half the time in South Beach? He'll be with the Marlins this season, no surprise to anyone. Miami might be pretty good.

                  3) Clippers 115, Mavericks 98-- DeAndre Jordan had 22 points, 27 rebounds with Blake Griffin sidelined. big win for LA, ending a losing skid before the All-Star break. It is very, very difficult to get 27 rebounds in any basketball game.

                  2) I'm not a big NASCAR fan but I like watching it now and then because its fun to watch pit crews do their work and the announcers are so enthusiastic and its amazing that cars drive so close to each other while going so fast without crashing all the time.

Plus, the start of NASCAR means one big thing to me: winter is almost over. The last couple weeks around have totally sucked weather-wise; 30 inches of snow, few more nights with temps below zero. Spring training and NASCAR need to start and soon..

                  1) It feels strange to follow a baseball off-season where the White Sox, Padres spent a lot more money than the Bronx Bombers. What the hell is going on out there????

NBA roundup: Spurs' Popovich registers 1,000th win

INDIANAPOLIS -- San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich came home to register his 1,000th NBA victory.

Guard Marco Belinelli's jumper from the left baseline with 2.1 seconds remaining capped a furious fourth-quarter rally that gave the Spurs and Popovich -- who was born in East Chicago, Ind., and attended high school in Merrillville, Ind. -- a 95-93 victory over the Indiana Pacers at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Monday.

After being outscored 34-18 in the third quarter, San Antonio (33-19) outscored the Pacers 30-14 during the final period.

Down 79-65 with 12 minutes remaining, the reigning NBA champions pulled even at 91 on two free throws by guard Tony Parker with 3:13 remaining, capping a 9-0 run.

Parker led the Spurs with 19 points, forward Tim Duncan added 15 and Belinelli finished with 12. Guard Rodney Stuckey led Indiana (20-33) with 18 points, and forward C.J. Miles had 13. Forward David West had 10 points and a season-high 18 rebounds.

                          Wizards 96, Magic 80

WASHINGTON -- Guard Rasual Butler scored 15 points, and guard John Wall nearly recorded a triple-double as Washington dominated the second half for a victory over Orlando.

Center Marcin Gortat had 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Wizards (33-20). Washington never trailed, outrebounded Orlando 53-33 and led by as many as 20 points in the second half despite playing without guard Bradley Beal. Forward Nene scored 14 points with five dunks.

Wall had nine points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in Washington's second straight win. The two-time All-Star missed a floater in the final minute.

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia coach Brett Brown said before his team faced Golden State that the Warriors' bench would be capable of contending for a playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

Golden State's reserves then proved his point, accounting for all the points in a pivotal 14-2 run at the beginning of the fourth quarter to propel the Warriors to a victory over the 76ers.

Reserve guard Leandro Barbosa and backup forward Marreese Speights, a former Sixer, each scored six points in that spree, giving Golden State an 81-63 lead with 9:04 left. Philadelphia drew no closer than four thereafter.

Guard Stephen Curry had 20 points for the Warriors, who have won five of six to improve to 41-9, the best record in the NBA.

                          Heat 109, Knicks 95

MIAMI -- Forward Chris Bosh scored 32 points, and Miami snapped its three-game losing streak, defeating New York at AmericanAirlines Arena.

Bosh scored 12 fourth-quarter points for Miami, which won for the fifth consecutive time in its series against New York. Bosh posted his sixth 30-plus-point game of the season. As a team, Miami enjoyed its second-highest scoring game of the season.

The Knicks, who fell to an NBA-worst 10-42, lost their fourth consecutive game. They are 3-23 on the road.

New York All-Star forward Carmelo Anthony (sore left knee) returned after a one-game absence and scored 26 points in 32 minutes. However, Anthony appeared to re-injure his knee, and he left the game midway through the fourth quarter. He did not return.

                          Hawks 117, Timberwolves 105

MINNEAPOLIS -- With a full complement of players finally healthy, Minnesota entered Monday's game riding a season-high, three-game winning streak.

The best team in the Eastern Conference put a stop to that.

Hawks forward Al Horford scored a season-high 28 points, and forward DeMarre Carroll chipped in a career-high 26 points as Atlanta topped Minnesota at Target Center.

Atlanta forward Paul Millsap added 19 points. One night earlier against the Memphis Grizzlies, Millsap was held to a season-low four points on 2-of-10 shooting. He finished Monday's game 8-for-13 from the field and added nine rebounds and seven assists.

                          Jazz 100, Pelicans 96

NEW ORLEANS -- Forward Gordon Hayward scored a game-high 32 points, including eight in the final 69 seconds, to spark Utah to a victory over short-handed New Orleans at the Smoothie King Center.

Hayward had 25 points in the second half as the Jazz (19-33) erased a 52-42 halftime deficit. Forward Derrick Favors added 18 points for Utah.

The Pelicans (27-25) played without injured forwards Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson. Guard Eric Gordon scored a team-high 31 points, including 7 of 8 from long range, and guard Tyreke Evans scored 18. But Gordon and Evans combined for 11 of the Pelicans' 15 turnovers.

                          Bucks 103, Nets 97

MILWAUKEE -- Shooting guard Jared Dudley scored 19 points and Milwaukee overcame a 17-point second-quarter deficit in a victory over Brooklyn at the Bradley Center.

Forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, named the Eastern Conference's Player of the Week earlier in the day, continued his impressive run with 12 points, nine rebounds and eight assists despite not playing in the fourth quarter.

Milwaukee also got 15 off the bench from shooting guard O.J. Mayo and 10 from center John Henson.

The Bucks shot just 41 percent for the game but went 12-for-22 from the field and scored 12 points off eight Brooklyn turnovers in the third to flip a 52-47 halftime deficit into an 11-point lead heading into the final quarter.

                          Clippers 115, Mavericks 98

DALLAS -- DeAndre Jordan and Los Angeles can finally go home, and they do so on a high note.

The center demolished depleted Dallas for 22 points, an NBA season-high 27 rebounds and three blocked shots, leading the travel-weary Clippers to a victory at the American Airlines Center.

Los Angeles closed out its drama-filled road trip with a 3-5 record and without All-Star forward Blake Griffin, who underwent surgery Monday to remove a staph infection in his right elbow. He is expected to miss at least three weeks.

In the Mavs, the Clippers found a team just as desperate to reach the All-Star break in 48 more hours. The Mavs were already without point guard Rajon Rondo for a fifth consecutive game due to a fractured orbital bone, and they lost both center Tyson Chandler and leading scorer Monta Ellis in the opening four minutes of the game.

Chandler twisted his left ankle after barely playing 90 seconds, and Ellis left after bruising his hip after just four minutes.

                          Thunder 124, Nuggets 114

DENVER -- Forward Kevin Durant scored 40 points and tied a career high with seven made 3-pointers and Oklahoma City beat reeling Denver.

Guard Russell Westbrook had 26 points and nine assists and rookie Mitch McGary had 17 points and 10 rebounds for Oklahoma City, which has won four of five.

The Thunder (27-25) is trending toward the playoffs while the Nuggets have become the sure win on every opponent's schedule. Denver has lost six in a row and 13 of 14 to become lottery contenders for the last half of the season.

Home court used to be a safe haven for the Nuggets but they have lost six straight at Pepsi Center. Forward Kenneth Faried had 22 points and 10 rebounds and guard Ty Lawson had 22 points and nine assists for Denver (19-33).

When East meets West: The smartest bet in the NBA you're overlooking

The NBA’s All-Star Weekend is almost here, headlined by the annual showcase of East versus West which takes place in Brooklyn this Sunday.

The West has long been considered the dominant conference, and the records show that. The Western Conference is a much deeper pool of teams while in the Eastern Conference, clubs can scrap into the playoffs with a winning percentage well below .500.

For the most part, the West has beaten up on Eastern opponents this season. Heading into Monday’s action, the East is just 128-178 SU in non-conference games – a .418 winning clip – this season. However, due to the general consensus that the West is a much better conference, there’s a slight overreaction to the East-v-West spreads with the East showing value at 155-144-7 ATS – a near 52 percent ATS win rate.

That especially held true this weekend, which featured 12 non-conference games between Friday and Sunday. Eastern Conference teams more than held their own, going 7-5 SU and 8-4 ATS.

Eight of those games featured the Eastern Conference representative as the home team, with those host posting a 6-2 SU and 7-1 ATS mark versus Western visitors. Eastern teams on the road at Western venues were just 1-3 SU and ATS. On the season, Eastern Conference teams are 52-101 SU and 75-71-7 ATS in non-conference road games and 76-77 SU and 80-73 ATS at home to Western rivals.

While a 52 percent ATS rate isn’t exactly the Midas Touch of NBA betting, the 58 percent Under rate in those non-conference clashes is a lot more appealing to basketball bettors. East-versus-West games have gone 126-174-6 Over/Under this season heading into Monday, including a 4-8 O/U record in non-conference games the last three days.

The rate of Unders increases when Eastern Conference teams go West, with a 58-91-4 Over/Under mark – a 61 percent winning percentage for the Under. In the four East-at-West games this weekend, three stayed below the total.

Here are some teams providing solid ATS or O/U value in conference games:

Nuggets NBA's worst bet thanks to recent skid

Thanks to the Denver Nuggets 124-114 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder Monday night, they have lost and failed to cover the spread in six consecutive games, making them the worst bet in the NBA.

The Nuggets are 3-10 against the spread in their last 13 games, dropping them to an Association worst 19-30-3 ATS mark for the season.

Denver plays the second game of a back-to-back Tuesday night in Los Angeles to face off against the Lakers. The Nuggets are currently 2.5-point road dogs.
