Top 25 roundup: Arizona dumps Ducks

EUGENE, Ore. -- Arizona made sure of a win on its third attempt at Matthew Knight Arena, building an early lead and pulling away to beat Oregon 80-62 in a Pac-12 game Thursday night.

The seventh-ranked Wildcats (14-1, 2-0 Pac-12) never trailed against the Ducks (11-4, 1-1), who in the previous two seasons upset a ranked Arizona team at the 4-year-old arena. The Wildcats didn't play at the facility in its first two seasons of use.

Guard T.J. McConnell led Arizona with 21 points, and four other Wildcats also scored in double figures, including center Kaleb Tarczewski with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Guard Joe Young led the Ducks with 12 points, but the Wildcats hounded Oregon's top scorer into 4-of-15 shooting from the field.

    Gonzaga 88, San Francisco 57

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Senior point guard Kevin Pangos led a balanced Bulldogs offense with 17 points in a victory over the Dons.

Sixth-ranked Gonzaga (15-1, 4-0 West Coast Conference) moved into a first-place tie with idle Saint Mary's. The Bulldogs have won eight consecutive games since losing 66-63 in overtime at then-No. 3 Arizona on Dec. 6. San Francisco (7-10, 1-4) lost its fourth game in a row.

Gonzaga won its 33rd straight home game, the second-longest active home winning streak in NCAA Division I men's basketball behind the 41-game skein of Duke. The Dons, who got 20 points from forward Kruize Pinkins, are 0-26 at Gonzaga since a 67-64 win on Feb. 10, 1989.

    Old Dominion 72, Marshall 51

Ten players scored for the 25th-ranked Monarchs, who cruised to a Conference USA win over the Thundering Herd in Huntington, W.Va. Old Dominion outshout Marshall, 48.3 percent to 37 percent, and posted a 36-26 rebounding edge.

Center Jonathan Arledge paced Old Dominion (13-1, 2-0 C-USA) with 13 points. Center Trey Freeman added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds, and guard Jordan Baker also scored 11 points.

Guard Austin Loop scored 15 points for Marshall (4-11, 0-2). Herd forwards Jay Johnson and Ryan Taylor scored 13 points apiece.

Game of the Day: Cavaliers at Warriors
                    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cleveland Cavaliers at Golden State Warriors (-11.5, 206)

The Cleveland Cavaliers are retooling their roster but are still missing the biggest piece as LeBron James continues to rehab knee and back injuries. The Cavaliers expect to be without James again but could have new addition Timofey Mozgov available when they face the daunting task of a visit to the NBA-best Golden State Warriors on Friday. The Warriors have won 13 straight home games and are crushing teams on their current five-game winning streak.

Mozgov was acquired from the Denver Nuggets in exchange for a pair of draft picks on Wednesday and joins J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert as newcomers to the Cleveland roster this week. Smith made his debut on Wednesday but went scoreless in 18 minutes off the bench as the Cavaliers fell for the sixth time in seven games despite a season-best 38 points from Kyrie Irving. Golden State is finishing up a six-game homestand and has taken the first five by an average of 23 points.

                    LINE HISTORY:

                    INJURY REPORT:
                    Cavaliers - Timofey Mozgov (Prob-Acquired) Warriors - N/A

                    ABOUT THE CAVALIERS (19-17 SU, 13-23 ATS, 12-23-1 O/U):
Cleveland has been looking for a rim protector all season and intensified the search when Anderson Varejao went down for the season last month, eventually leading them to make the deal for Mozgov. The Russian center is averaging 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds and is familiar with Cavaliers coach David Blatt from their time together with the Russian National team. “Coach Blatt is extremely excited to have added Timofey, and I think that's something that's a great fit for all of us,” general manager David Griffin told reporters. “...His numbers didn't need to be flashy. We've got three guys that are top-20 players in the NBA. Those guys can be flashy. We need guys that do the dirt work.”

                    ABOUT THE WARRIORS (28-5 SU, 22-11 ATS, 15-18 O/U):
Golden State does a lot of the things the Cavaliers have talked about improving upon early in the season, namely ball movement, spacing, pace and stinginess on the defensive end. The Warriors’ unselfishness is one of their better qualities, and they lead the league with an average of 26.5 assists after Stephen Curry handed out 15 while watching Klay Thompson go off for 40 points in a 117-102 win over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. “I was hunting my shots, because I was in a good rhythm,” Thompson told reporters. “The more I hunt my shots, and the more I make them, it gets other guys open because the opponent gravitates so much to the hot guy.”

                    TRENDS:

*Cavaliers are 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
*Warriors are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 home games.
*Over is 4-0 in Warriors last 4 vs. Eastern Conference.
*Cavaliers are 2-8 ATS in the last 10 meetings.

                    CONSENSUS:
62.12 percent of users are backing Golden State -11.5, with 64.2 percent on the over.
