    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

-- Patriots 35, Ravens 31-- Quality entertainment, an excellent game.

-- Seahawks 31, Panthers 17-- First playoff win by a defending champ since '05.

-- Golfer Zach Johnson has 11 career wins, three more than any other golfer in the Tournament of Champions in Hawai'i this weekend.

-- Of the 14 basketball teams in the Atlantic 14, three have nickname Rams.

-- Rick Pitino is now 0-6 in his career against North Carolina.

-- Pac-12 football teams are 6-1 vs Big 14 teams this season.

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday......

    13) So who was it that pushed 77-year old defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau out the door? Coach Tomlin? Owner Art Rooney? When a guy in his position says "I am not retiring" that means he got fired. Tough thing, firing a legend.

    12) Kentucky 70, Texas A&M 64, 2OT-- Aggies were only 16-30 in foul line as Wildcats dodged another bullet in SEC play. They're very good, but don't tell me this Kentucky team is an all-time great team just yet.

    11) Miami OH 82, Eastern Michigan 81 OT-- Ben Roethlisberger's alma mater was down 25 in first half, rallied to win.

    10) North Carolina 72, Louisville 71-- UNC gets 8th-least % of points of anyone in country from beyond arc, where they shoot 31%; this was second Tar Heel game in row that was decided by exactly one point.

    9) Seton Hall 68, Creighton 67 OT-- Sterling Gibbs hit a hard 3-pointer with 0:02.1 left to keep Bluejays (0-4) winless in Big East.

    8) If you care about such things, home underdogs are now 1-9-1 vs spread in WCC conference games this season.

    7) Super Bowl is in Phoenix this year, same week as Phoenix Open golf tournament, where Eldrick Woods will play for only the fourth time. Coincidence?.Nah, some of his sponsors probably want to watch him play, so he plays.

    6) Roger Goodell and his wife sat outside in the cold in Foxboro last night; he runs the damn league but he doesn't sit in a luxury box? Mrs Goodell couldn't have been happy with this-- who wants to get sick when you don't have to?

    5) At this point, Knicks might lose to the Washington Generals; they lost by 28 at home to Charlotte and they won the fourth quarter by 17-- you do the math.

    4) New Orleans traded Austin Rivers to the Celtics in Jeff Green trade; rumor has it that Boston is going to ship him to the Clippers soon, where he will play for his dad.

    3) ESPN's Jay Bilas/Dan Dakich are Robert M Knight henchmen, so they spend way too much airtime bitching about officials. Analyze the game, you're not paid to be the supervisor of officials. ESPN's college hoop analysts are a surprisingly weak lot. .

    2) If they reduced the amount of timeouts each team got in TV games from five to three, it would be fine with me. In a college hoop game, there are eight scripted TV timeouts that have to happen; teams don't need five other timeouts, its too much. Let the kids play, the game would have better flow, better action. .

    1) A's traded for Ben Zobrist/Yunel Escobar Saturday; counting DH, they've changed seven of nine position players from LY's team. One evaluator summed up the new A's in this way: "Younger, cheaper and deeper" Sounds like the A's.

              Sunday's Tip Sheet

              January 10, 2015

At times it appears that the Pac-12 takes a back seat to some of the other major conferences in college basketball with the betting public given its geographic location and late-starting games, but the quality of play in this conference remains high and definitely worth a serious look when wagering on the games.

Heading into this Sunday’s action, this conference has two Top-10 teams in the latest AP poll with a few others poised to make their way into the national rankings. The following betting report breaks down three key Pac-12 matchups with some key facts, stats and betting trends to help you wager on the games.

California Golden Bears vs. UCLA Bruins (7:30 p.m. FOX Sports 1)

Betting Point Spread: UCLA -5 ½

              Betting Matchup

The Golden Bears’ 10-1 straight-up start is becoming a distant memory with just one SU victory in their last five games. They are coming off a 71-57 loss to USC this past Wednesday as two-point road favorites to fall to 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 outings. California’s chance to regain its early season form relies heavily on the play of junior guard Tyrone Wallace, who leads the team in points (19.1), rebounds (8.4) and assists (4.1).

UCLA snapped a five-game skid both SU and ATS with a huge 86-81 overtime victory against Stanford as a one-point home favorite this past Thursday night. The total went OVER the 132-point closing line in that game after staying UNDER in the Bruins previous four contests. They are now 9-7 SU on the year with a costly 5-11 record ATS. Freshman forward Kevon Looney and junior forward Tony Parker combined for 49 points against the Cardinal and all five starters ended the night in double figures.

              Betting Trends

The Golden Bears are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a SU loss and 3-14 ATS in their last 17 Pac-12 games. The total has stayed UNDER in their last five road games.

The Bruins are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games and 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a SU winning record. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last seven conference games.

Head-to-head in this matchup, the home team is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings and the total has gone in eight of the last 11 games. The Bruins are 3-1 SU and ATS in the last four meetings.

No. 7 Arizona Wildcats vs. Oregon State Beavers (10 p.m. FOX Sports 1)

Betting Point Spread: Arizona -9 ½

              Betting Matchup

The Wildcats started conference play with back-to-back romps (SU and ATS) over Arizona State and Oregon after their stunning 71-67 loss to UNLV as 12 ½-point road favorites on Dec. 23. They are now 14-1 SU on the year with an 8-7 record ATS. They have gone 1-2 ATS in three previous road games this year. Arizona is averaging 76.3 points per game with a 50.0 shooting percentage from the field that is ranked ninth in country. Freshman forward Stanley Johnson has led the way with a team-high 14.4 points and 6.9 rebounds a game.

It has been an up and down ride for Oregon State lately with a 2-2 record both SU and ATS in its last four games, but it is coming off a 55-47 victory against Arizona State this past Thursday as a one-point home favorite. The Beavers are now 10-4 SU with a 9-3-1 record ATS. They have been a goldmine at home this year with a perfect 8-0 record ATS. Oregon State is averaging just 66.5 points a game, but defensively it is ranked 17th in the nation in points allowed (56.9).

              Betting Trends

The Wildcats have failed to cover in four of their last five road games against a team with a SU winning record, but they are 4-1 ATS in their last five conference games. The total has gone OVER in five of their last six games following a SU win.

The Beavers are 19-5-1 ATS in their last 25 home games and 5-2 in their last seven games against conference foes. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games played on a Sunday.

The home team in this matchup has covered ATS in the last five meetings and the total has gone OVER in the last four games played at Oregon State. Arizona has won the last seven games SU, but it is just 3-8 ATS in the last 11 meetings.

Stanford Cardinal vs. USC Trojans (10 p.m. ESPNU)

              Betting Point Spread: OFF

              Betting Matchup

Thursday’s loss to UCLA snapped a four-game winning streak (3-1 ATS) for the Cardinal that included victories over Washington State and Washington as favorites to open play in the Pac-12. They are now 4-1-1 ATS in their last six games after failing to cover in five of their first eight contests. Senior guard Chasson Randle leads the team in scoring with 19.8 points a game, but Stanford’s presence under the boards took a hit with the loss of one of its top rebounders when Reid Travis was lost until early February with a leg injury.

It has been a shaky start in Pac-12 play for USC with losses (SU and ATS) to Utah and Colorado as a double-digit underdog followed by the win over Cal. The Trojans are 8-7 ATS this season, but they have covered in four of six games as underdogs. The total has gone OVER in six of their last eight outings. The big concern for Sunday’s game is the health of freshman guard Jordan McLaughlin. He leads the team in both points (12.7) and assists (4.9), but he remains questionable with a shoulder injury.

              Betting Trends

The Cardinal have gone just 2-6-2 ATS in their last 10 conference games, but they have covered ATS in eight of their last 11 games played on Sunday. The total has stayed UNDER in five of their last six games following a SU loss.

The Trojans are just 8-18 ATS in their last 26 Pac-12 games and they are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record on the road. The total has gone OVER in nine of their last 12 games following a SU win.

Head-to-head in this conference tilt, Stanford has won four of the last six meetings both SU and ATS including a two-game sweep last season and the total has stayed UNDER in eight of the last 10 games

                Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

-- NC State 87, Duke 75-- Wolfpack was 10-16 behind the arc.

-- Rutgers 67, Wisconsin 62-- Badgers led by 12 at half in game Kaminsky sat out and Jackson got hurt in. Very big win for Eddie Jordan's program.

-- Michigan State 84, Northwestern 77 OT-- Izzo's team is shaky right now.

                -- Hawks 120, Wizards 89-- Atlanta is now 29-8, an obscure 29-8.

-- Tony Romo apparently tore ligaments in the ring finger on his passing hand in the Cowboys' loss in Green Bay.

-- Opening lines for next week's football:
                Seattle -7.5 (46.5) over the Packers.....New England -7 (54) over the Colts.

                **********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend........

Top 25 roundup: Duke, Wisconsin, Arizona fall

RALEIGH, N.C. -- North Carolina State hit a slew of 3-point shots and knocked off No. 2 Duke 87-75 in an Atlantic Coast Conference game Sunday afternoon at PNC Arena, where fans flooded the court to celebrate.

Guard Trevor Lacey scored 21 points, aided by five 3-pointers, and guard Ralston Turner pumped in 16 points, with four threes, for North Carolina State (12-5, 3-1 ACC), which made 10 of its first 14 3-point attempts.

Sophomore forward BeeJay Anya's career-high 14 points off the bench also gave the Wolfpack a boost.

Duke (14-1, 2-1) was aiming to start a season with a 15-0 mark for the second time in three years.

Center Jahlil Okafor's 23 points and guard Quinn Cook's 16 points paced Duke. Forward Justise Winslow had 10 points before fouling out.

                  Rutgers 67, Wisconsin 62

PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- For the first time in two years, the Scarlet Knights knocked off a ranked opponent, defeating the fourth-ranked Badgers at the Louis Brown Athletic Center.

Wisconsin (15-2, 3-1 Big Ten) was playing without its All-America candidate, Frank Kaminsky, who was out due to a concussion. Kaminsky was replaced in the starting lineup by sophomore guard Bronson Koenig, who scored 12 points.

Senior guard Myles Mack topped Rutgers (10-7, 2-2) with 21 points. Scarlet Knights forward Kadeem Jack scored 20. Badgers forward Nigel Hayes scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Wisconsin forward Sam Dekker contributed 15 points and six rebounds.

                  Oregon State 58, Arizona 56

Guard Langston Morris-Walker drove for the winning points with 26 seconds left as Oregon State upset No. 7 Arizona in Corvallis for the program's first win over a top 10 team in nearly 15 years.

Arizona point guard T.J. McConnell attempted to tie the game on the final possession, but his leaning 10-footer off the glass went off the rim and time ran out.

The Beavers followed a stifling defensive effort in the first half with hot shooting in the second half, when they made 11 of 17 shots from the field. Morris-Walker led OSU with 12 points; he also had eight rebounds.

Oregon State improved to 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the Pac-12 under first-year head coach Wayne Tinkle. OSU hadn't beaten a top 10 team since March 2, 2000, when it won 70-69 over third-ranked Arizona.

Wichita State 67, Loyola (Chicago) 53

CHICAGO -- Guard Tekele Cotton scored 16 points to lead the 15th-ranked Shockers to a win over the Ramblers.

Guard Ron Baker added 15 points for Wichita State, which won its 22nd consecutive conference game. The Shockers (14-2, 4-0 Missouri Valley Conference) outscored Loyola 44-25 in the second half to erase a five-point halftime deficit.

Guard Earl Peterson scored 13 points to lead Loyola. Guard Devon Turk tallied 11 points for the Ramblers (12-4, 2-2 MVC), who have lost two of three. Wichita State guard Fred VanVleet notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists, which matched a career high.

                    Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

Average salary cap room for an NFLteam next year is $15.3M......

Three teams with most money available:

-- Raiders $51.2M-- Who is the coach going to be?

-- Jaguars $41.2M-- Seattle's defensive coordinators aren't as smart once they leave the Seahawks. Funny how that works.

-- Jets $40.6-- First game with Buffalo has to be a Sunday night game.
Three teams who are already over the cap for next year:

-- Saints minus $22.1M-- Some talented heads will have to roll.

-- 49ers minus $12.5M-- They need to hire a QB guru for Kaepernick.

-- Cardinals minus $11.1M-- Will need a new defensive coordinator, too.

                    **********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but.........

                    13) Ohio State 42, Oregon 20-- Not Mark Helfrich's finest moment; eschewed an easy FG when down 14-7, punted when down 35-20 with 7:00 left and never went for two after a TD, which Oregon does in most games. Buckeyes ran ball for 296 yards, threw for 242 more, winning by three TDs despite a -3 turnover ratio.

                    12) Cardale Jones has started three college games, won 'em all as an underdog; scout on Twitter said Monday night that he would be the 4th QB drafted if he comes out of school, which apparently he will not. Ohio State has two other QBs returning-- which one(s) are going to transfer? At least one of them will.

                    11) 85,589 fans witnessed this event in JerryWorld; not sure how long before this turns into an 8-team playoff, but I'm guessing it won't be long.

                    10) Urban Meyer is obviously a great coach, but he lasted six years at Florida, after two years each at Bowling Green/Utah; this was his third year at Ohio State. It is not outrageous to suggest that by time Jim Harbaugh gets Michigan rolling, Meyer will have moved on from Columbus. Expectations for Ohio State will now be through the roof, which generally is bad for coaches' blood pressure.

                    9) Whats the over/under on time Meyer spends enjoying this championship? Is he in the office Tuesday morning at 8am making recruiting calls? Signing Day is in three weeks; after all. Football recruiting pauses only during the games.

                    8) One more Helfrich note: at $2M a year, Helfrich is now the lowest-paid coach in the Pac-12. You'd think he's due for a raise, no?

                    7) DeMarco Murray carried the football 436 times this year, which reminds us of Jamal Anderson, who got run into the ground by the late 90's Falcons. Better take care of the young man or he won't last much longer.

                    6) John Fox goes 49-22 with the Broncos (3-4 in playoffs) and gets fired? Oy. Hot rumor as I type this is Fox going to Chicago to coach the Bears.

                    5) Rex Ryan goes 50-52 with the Jets and gets $5M+ from Buffalo? Buffalo sent its DC Jim Schwartz packing; his philosophy and Ryan's didn't mesh, so it makes sense. Curious to see if the Jets hire Doug Marrone, if he brings Schwartz to the Swamp.

                    4) At one point Monday afternoon, ESPN2 was airing mascots riding an electronic bull; seriously, they did. 46 seconds was the best time while I was watching. ESPN over-covered the college football playoff a bit much; now they can finally dive into a little more college basketball. Less than nine weeks until Selection Sunday.

                    3) Golfers Jason Day, Chris Kirk both shot 11-under 62's in last round at Kapalua, yet neither one won the tournament; Patrick Reed beat Jimmy Walker in a playoff to win the first event of 2015. Walker led most of way, was awful on back nine Monday.

                    2) Odd fact that I learned Monday night: Bob Newhart once went to law school at Loyola, IL; he didn't finish, which was a good thing for TV comedy, right?

                    1) One last college football thing: the kid on Oregon who scored a TD but dropped the ball about two inches after he crossed the goal line? Go hand the ball to the referee and quit being a selifsh jackass. His cool guy BS is inexcusable, especially since a kid on Utah did same thing against the Ducks in November. He should know better.

                              Tuesday's Notebook

                              January 13, 2015

Top-ranked Kentucky barely survived in overtime at Texas A&M this past Saturday after nearly falling at home against Ole Miss early last week.

Duke, Wisconsin and Arizona all lost Sunday.

Clearly, it's a treacherous time to be one of the projected Final Four in VI's Top 25 Rankings, but there's no reason to jump off any of their bandwagons. There is, however, reason to hold off on making any significant futures bets. Odds may improve. Circumstances may change.

In a year where there look to be about 12-to-15 teams capable of running the table by earning six wins in March's NCAA Tournament, the aforementioned foursome still have the look of national semifinalists.

Of the four, only the Badgers may no longer have the look of a top seed.

Starting point guard Traevon Jackson fractured his right foot in the loss at Rutgers and will have surgery on Thursday. The time frame for his return has initially been estimated at six weeks, so unless he's able to come back ahead of schedule, head coach Bo Ryan will have his point guard back just before the Big Ten Tournament. That means they might have to use that event to work out the kinks and get back to form before the Big Dance. If Jackson is back by March 1, he'll have Senior Day against Michigan State as his return date, followed by road games at Minnesota and Ohio State.

The son of Buckeyes legend Jimmy Jackson offers opponents a unique look as a lefty and lit up Duke for 25 points on Dec. 3, once again proving he's got a tendency to come through when it matters most. Since Wisconsin is likely to lose a few they probably wouldn't have without him, expect the odds, currently available at +1200 at Sportsbook.ag to become more lucrative if you want to back Badgers to win it all. Considering how great a leader and teacher Ryan is, not to mention the presence of All-America candidates Frank Kaminsky and Sam Dekker to help steer the ship, that could be a plunge worth taking.

In the interim, sophomore Bronson Koenig will take the reins. He was a highly-regarded point guard prospect that spurned the likes of Duke and Kansas to stay in-state. Koenig will make his first start at home against Nebraska on Thursday, a team that is striving to rally from a slower start than expected. The Huskers have back double-digit home wins over Nebraska and Illinois but are just 1-3 in true road games. Even without Jackson, expect the Huskers to be 10-to-12-point underdogs in Madison. Wisconsin closes the month with a home-and-home against Iowa sandwiching a Jan. 24 trip to Michigan, so how well they handle Nebrasketball should dictate whether they'll an underdog for the first time this season.

Kentucky has also been favored every time out. In the Wildcats' case, chasing history remains in play.

John Calipari's squad is still paying off a handsome +325 at Sportsbook.ag if you think they're going to avoid a loss all season. Those who have rolled with the heavy juice of -450 by playing naysayer have to be encouraged by last week's results since both the Rebels and Aggies project as bubble teams stuck in the middle-of-the-pack in the SEC.

Calipari has offered that UK is "not a very good team right now." He was of the opinion that if Ole Miss guard Stefan Moody hadn't cramped up, his Cats would've already lost. Despite the most talented team in Division I at his disposal, Kentucky shot 28 percent at Texas A&M. Despite all its size and length, both the Rebels and Aggies hung with it on the boards through regulation and OT. It's not boredom or complacency setting in for Cal's kids, but rather the challenge of taking everyone's best punch.

A temporary reprieve should arrive on Tuesday since Missouri visits Lexington without second-leading scorer Montaque Gill-Caesar, who is still sidelined by a back issue. Kentucky has been installed as a 24-point favorite at Rupp Arena, where it hadn't failed to win a game by double-figures all season prior to last Tuesday. Saturday's visit to Alabama will almost certainly present a tougher challenge, but there's no question that this Mizzou matchup has the look of a feel-good game in which the Wildcats can restore some confidence.

The weekend trip to Tuscaloosa looms as one of Kentucky's toughest regular-season games left, since the Crimson Tide are perfect at home, nationally-ranked by VI and receiving votes in the AP and Coaches polls. If the Cats are going to lose before the SEC Tournament, it's likely going to be in an opposing gym. Visits to Alabama, South Carolina, Florida, LSU and Georgia remain major reasons why an undefeated season looks so unlikely, especially given recent results. At -125 to win it all right now, it might not be a bad idea to wait until they take a loss to see if a bigger payout can be had.

Duke felt the wrath of a tough road game on Sunday afternoon in Raleigh, falling 87-75 in a game that wasn't even as close as that final score indicates. N.C. State shot 55 percent from the field and 10-for-16 from 3-point range, prompting Mike Krzyzewski to observe that his team will probably have a couple of tough nights in the ACC given their inexperience with being tested.

"I think you learn through experience how tough you need to be," said Krzyzewski, whose Blue Devils are currently +900 to win a national title. "You might think you're playing tough but until you're placed in another situation that requires a whole other level... you need to learn to play at that level and we need to be in these things to learn them."

Tuesday's home date against Miami will provide another tough challenge, as will the fact the Blue Devils must still go through four of the season's toughest road tests, at Louisville, St. John's, Notre Dame and Virginia, before January even ends.

After getting a 23-point, 12-rebound effort on 8-for-11 shooting from star freshman Jahlil Okafor against N.C. State, Duke now knows that even if he comes through in his leading role, that doesn't guarantee it victory. Not in ACC play. Since Okafor is liable to have an off night or two as the grind intensifies, it's highly likely that the Blue Devils are set to experience their share of adversity. It will be interesting to see how they handle it, part of the galvanization Krzyzewski is hoping to see in developing toughness from key freshmen Okafor, Tyus Jones and Justice Winslow between now and March.

Arizona's Sean Miller is in a similar situation, relying heavily on young players like Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Stanley Johnson as catalysts. An upset loss at UNLV on Dec. 23 was chalked up to horrible shooting and holiday-related inconsistency, but Sunday's 58-56 loss at Oregon State saw his ‘Cats fall despite committing just five turnovers. The Beavers are nowhere near as talented as the Wildcats, but proved tougher mentally and made plays when they needed to down the stretch. Johnson had a double-figure scoring streak of 14 games snapped, so there's plenty to be monitor as Colorado and current Pac-12 leader, Utah, visit Tucson this week.

The Buffs have Josh Scott back in the lineup and can use a signature win on Thursday night, which means it would be surprising to see Arizona bounce back easily. Utah comes in undefeated and sporting some of the conference's most talented prospects in guard Delon Wright and young center Jakob Poeltl. Like Wisconsin, 'Zona is +1200 to win it all but will probably have to suffer a few setbacks to learn what it takes at this level.

Increased turbulence is ahead for VI's projected final four, so keep in mind that in college basketball, it's all about the process. Prepare to buy in when the odds favor you most.

                                Wednesday's Tip Sheet

                                January 13, 2015

**North Carolina at North Carolina State**

-- As of late Tuesday night, most betting shops had North Carolina installed as a 3.5-point favorite.

-- North Carolina (12-4 straight up, 10-6 against the spread) needed Marcus Paige's buzzer-beating layup to sneak past Louisville as a three-point favorite this past Saturday. The Tar Heels failed to cover the spread, but they avoided dropping back-to-back home games after losing to Notre Dame last Monday. The 143 combined points slipped 'over' the 140-point total. UNC improved to 2-1 in ACC play with the win over U of L.

-- Before producing the game winner, Paige had struggled against the Cardinals. He had more turnovers (four) than assists (three) and made only 4-of-12 shots from the field en route to scoring only 10 points. Kennedy Meeks led a balanced attack with 13 points, six rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocked shots. J.P. Tokoto finished with 10 points, five boards and five assists without a turnover.

-- North Carolina St. (12-5 SU, 7-7 ATS) is also coming off a huge win. Mark Gottfried's team handed Duke its first loss Sunday by capturing an 87-75 win as a nine-point home underdog. Trevor Lacey buried 8-of-13 shots, including 5-of-7 from long distance, to lead the way with 21 points. Ralston Turner added 16 points, while Beejay Anya contributed 14 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots in only 19 minutes of playing time from off the bench.

-- Lacey is the catalyst for N.C. St. The transfer from Alabama is averaging a team-high 16.9 points per game. He also leads the Wolfpack in steals (0.9 per game) and field-goal percentage (50.0%).

-- UNC is No. 14 in the RPI Rankings, posting a 2-3 record against RPI Top-50 opponents and a 6-4 mark against the RPI Top 100. The Tar Heels' best wins have come over Davidson and Louisville, while their four defeats occurred at Kentucky, vs. Butler in the Bahamas and in Chapel Hill vs. Iowa and Notre Dame.

-- N.C. St. is No. 32 in the RPI. The Wolfpack has won just one of five games against the RPI Top 50 (Duke), but it has five Top-100 victories. The victims have included Richmond, Boise St., Tennessee and Pittsburgh.

-- N.C. St. has won 12 of its 14 home games, going 6-5 ATS. The Wolfpack has won two of its first three ACC games, covering the number in all three spots. They are 2-2 ATS in four games as underdogs.

-- North Carolina won an 85-84 decision at N.C. St. in overtime last season. Paige erupted for a career-high 35 points and had the game-winning bucket on a layup with 0.9 seconds remaining.

-- UNC has won nine of the last 10 games against N.C. St., compiling a 7-3 spread record in the process. The 'over' is 3-1 in the last four encounters, 8-2 in the last 10 meetings in Raleigh.

-- The 'over' is 7-6-1 overall for UNC, but the 'under' has cashed in two of its three road games.

-- The 'over' is 5-4 overall for N.C. St., 4-2 in its home games.

                                -- Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2.

                                **Xavier at Villanova**

-- As of late Tuesday night, most books had Villanova listed as a 10.5-point favorite for Wednesday's Big East showdown vs. Xavier. The Wildcats are 3-1 in league play, while the Musketeers are 2-2.

-- Villanova (15-1 SU, 10-5 ATS) has won three of its first four Big East games and is undefeated in eight home games. The Wildcats, who are 5-3 ATS at home, are coming off Saturday's 81-64 win over DePaul. Jay Wright's team failed to cover the number as 21.5-point home 'chalk.' Darrun Hilliard was the catalyst with a game-high 21 points and four steals. Hilliard drained 4-of-8 attempts from 3-point range. The victory resulted in the first Big East loss for the Blue Demons, who had started 3-0 with scalps of Marquette, Xavier and Creighton.

-- Hilliard, who averages 13.5 points per game, has scored 21 in back-to-back contests. He has knocked down 7-of-15 shots from beyond the arc in these two games.

                                -- Villanova owns a 6-4 spread record in 10 games as a double-digit favorite.

-- Xavier (11-5 SU, 8-7 ATS) has dropped two of its last three games, including Saturday's 88-76 setback at Butler as a 2.5-point underdog. Matt Stainbrook had a team-high 21 points in the losing effort. Remy Abell chipped in with 15 points.

-- Chris Mack's squad has limped to a 1-3 record both SU and ATS in four true road assignments. The Musketeers were in their first game as underdogs this season in the loss at Butler.

-- Xavier is No. 36 in the RPI, going 3-1 vs. the RPI Top 50 but only 4-4 vs. the Top 100. The Musketeers own wins over Alabama, Georgetown and Seton Hall.

-- Villanova is ranked fourth in the RPI, posting a stellar 6-1 record against Top-50 foes. The Wildcats have eight Top-100 wins over VCU, Illinois, Temple, Syracuse, Butler, St. John's, Michigan and La Salle.

-- The 'under' is 9-6 overall for Villanova, 5-3 in its home games. However, the 'over' has hit at a 5-2 clip in its last seven outings.

-- Totals have been an wash overall (7-7) for Xavier, but the 'under' is on a 6-2 run its last eight games.

-- Fox Sports 1 will have the broadcast at 9:00 p.m. Eastern.

                                **B.E.'s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Wisconsin senior center Frank Kaminsky has been cleared to practice and upgraded to 'probable' for Thursday's home game vs. Nebraska. Kaminsky missed Sunday's 67-62 loss at Rutgers due to a concussion. Kaminsky averages team-highs in scoring (16.9 PPG), rebounding (8.2 RPG), steals (1.2 SPG) and blocked shots (1.9 BPG). The Badgers will be without starting point guard Traevon Jackson for six weeks after he broke his foot in the loss at RU. Jackson is averaging 9.4 points and 2.9 assists per game.

-- Syracuse freshman forward Chris McCullough is out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in Sunday night's home win over FSU. McCullough was averaging 9.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.1 blocked shots, 1.7 steals and 1.1 assists per game. He will be missed by the Orange, who were fortunate to survive Wake Forest's upset bid Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome. Jim Boeheim's team won an 86-83 decision in overtime, but the Demon Deacons easily took the cash as 9.5-point underdogs.

-- Air Force guard Matt Mooney is 'out' of Wednesday's game at New Mexico due to a one-game suspension for his involvement in an altercation during Saturday's home loss to Colorado St. Mooney averages 7.0 points, 2.4 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game.

-- Seton Hall went into Tuesday's home game vs. Butler as a two-point favorite. The Pirates previously had record of 8-0 SU at home, 7-0 ATS at home and 6-0 ATS as single-digit favorites. Those unbeaten ledgers were busted, however, as the Bulldogs won 79-75 for their third win both SU and ATS in their last four outings. Roosevelt Jones and Kellen Dunham scored 44 combined points to lead the way for Butler, which has the look of a team that can make some serious noise in March.

-- The 'under' was 8-0 at home for Tennessee going into Tuesday's showdown vs. Arkansas, but the 143 combined points in the Volunteers' 74-69 win allowed the 'over' to cash (136). UT won outright as a 3.5-point home underdog.
