Maybe someone should also start a thread as to who you would choose to start a big game.
I would probably pick Halladay although it woulnd't be a slam dunk by any means.

i would agree with Halladay i would chose him also just last year 2010 how can you argue with what he did all these he led the national league in

        he won 21 games
        most innings pitched
        most complete games
        most shutouts
        cy young award winner
        2 no-hitters

it really dont get any better than that

if i would have to chose a pitcher from all-time it would have to be Greg Maddux.I think he is going to be the first ever unanimous first ballot hall of famer.

look at these stats from greg maddux during the seasons 1992-1995.These are in my opinion the best 4 year stats from any pitcher in the history of baseball

          1992-----20 wins 11 losses era of 2.18
          1993----20 wins 10 losses era of 2.26
1994--16 wins 6 losses era of 1.56 **in 5 games atl scored no runs
          1995---19wins 2 losses era of 1.62

i mean for 4 season his worst era for the season was giving up less than 2.5 runs a game

            Pedro was even better!

            1997 - 17-8 1.90 (.932 WHIP)
            1998 - 19-7 2.89 (1.091 WHIP)
            1999 - 23-4 2.07 (.923 WHIP)
            2000 - 18-6 1.74 (.737 WHIP)

            Maddux went (75-29)
            Pedro went (77-25)

Pedro Won 3 Cy Young Awards and finished in 2nd place once in those 4 years and he beat Maddux in K's, K/BB Ratio and WHIP too! Pitching in Fenway, a very friendly hitter Ballpark, i would say Pedro was more impressive!

Maddux did Win 4 CY Awards though too. What Maddux did was no doubt great but to do what Pedro did in Fenway Park was simply unbelieveable!

Pedro followed up those 4 years by going (41-11) in the next 3 too ('01.'02,'03). That is a (118-36) record over a 7 year span. He was the Best pitcher i have seen in my lifetime. It may be biased but the numbers speak for themself!

Well it can't be based on numbers because he lost that battle!

He threw those cut FBs that would end up being strikes after the batter would give up on it. Thing of beauty.

                          In Maddux's 4 years 733 K's

                          In Pedro's 4 years 1153 K's

When it came to K's, Maddux couldn't hold a stick next to Pedro. Pure FIRE!!!

He raped daddy in 2004 after being down 3-0 to win a WS so that was not a problem!

Maddux was a great "Nibbler". Jab, jab, jab type of pitcher. Pedro stood right in front of you and punched you right in the face. You dropped and he walked away. It was that simple. No beating around the bush. You know what is coming and you know you can't hit it!
