    Gregorius powers Yankees past Rays
    April 3, 2018

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Shohei Ohtani hit his first major league home run in his first Angel Stadium at-bat, helping the Los Angeles Angels beat the Cleveland Indians 13-2 on Tuesday night.

Ohtani capped a six-run first inning with a three-run drive to center off Josh Tomlin (0-1). The Japanese two-way player got the silent treatment from teammates when he returned to the dugout, but not from the crowd. After players broke character and jumped around Ohtani to celebrate, Mike Trout pointed to the field and instructed Ohtani to take a curtain call.

Trout, Justin Upton, Luis Valbuena and Rene Rivera also homered for the Angels, who broke a 12-game losing streak to the Indians. Garrett Richards (1-0) got the win.

Jose Ramirez hit a two-run home run in the first for the Indians.

    YANKEES 11, RAYS 4

NEW YORK (AP) - Didi Gregorius hit a pair of three-run homers and drove in a career-high eight RBIs, and the Yankees won Aaron Boone's chilly first home opener as manager.

Gregorius had four hits and walked, setting a major league record for RBIs by a player in a home opener. He also set a Yankees record for RBIs by a shortstop.

He doubled and scored in the second, and his first homer put the Yankees ahead 4-1 in the third against Chris Archer. After New York's bullpen wasted a three-run lead for the second straight game, Gregorius drove an 0-2 pitch from Austin Pruitt (1-1) into the second deck in the seventh. He blooped an opposite-field two-run single to left in the eighth.

New York improved to 3-2 under Boone, who took over when Joe Girardi was fired. Tommy Kahnle (1-0) got the win.

    BRAVES 13, NATIONALS 6

ATLANTA (AP) - Freddie Freeman and Preston Tucker each hit a three-run homer, and Atlanta handed Washington its first loss.

Freeman and Tucker each delivered a big blow as Atlanta scored four times in each of the first two innings. Tucker's drive in the first against A.J. Cole (0-1) reached the restaurant behind the right-field seats, and Freeman cleared the wall in right-center in the second.

Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run homer in the first for Washington, and Cole added his first career homer in the second. Leading off the third, Bryce Harper continued his hot streak with his fourth homer in the last three games.

Shane Carle (1-1) pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings for the win.

    METS 2, PHILLIES 0

NEW YORK (AP) - Mets right-hander Matt Harvey allowed one hit over five sharp innings in his encouraging season debut.

With most seats empty in the 40-degree mist and chill, a healthy-looking Harvey gave the Mets reason to believe he can rebound this year from two terrible seasons interrupted by injury.

Todd Frazier snapped a scoreless tie with a run-scoring double in the sixth. Travis d'Arnaud added a two-out RBI single that chased Ben Lively (0-1), who hit Yoenis Cespedes with a pitch to begin the rally.

Philadelphia put runners at the corners with one out in the ninth, but Jeurys Familia finished the three-hitter for his second save.

BLUE JAYS 14, WHITE SOX 5

TORONTO (AP) - Josh Donaldson and Aledmys Diaz each hit a two-run homer, helping Toronto to its fourth consecutive victory.

Donaldson went 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Diaz had three hits before leaving after six innings because of back spasms.

Donaldson and Diaz also went deep in Monday's night's 4-2 victory over Chicago.

Avisail Garcia, Tim Anderson and Yolmer Sanchez hit solo home runs for the White Sox. Miguel Gonzalez (0-1) got the loss.

Toronto's J.A. Happ (1-1) struck out nine in 5 1/3 innings, but was charged with four runs and seven hits.

    MARINERS 6, GIANTS 4

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Mitch Haniger hit a two-run single, helping the Mariners spoil the Giants' home opener.

Seattle's Marco Gonzales (1-0) allowed three runs and six hits in 6 1/3 innings. Edwin Diaz got three outs for his third save.

Joe Panik hit a solo homer and Evan Longoria added a two-run shot for the Giants, the first with his new team.

Ty Blach (1-1), filling in for injured San Francisco ace Madison Bumgarner, was done after 4 1/3 innings having allowed 10 hits and six runs.

The crowd of 40,901 marked the lowest for a Giants home opener in the 19-year ballpark's history.

    ROYALS 1, TIGERS 0

DETROIT (AP) - Jake Junis took a shutout into the eighth inning, and Kansas City earned its first victory of the season.

On a chilly, rainy day - with snow a possibility on Wednesday - the Tigers and Royals breezed through nine innings in 2 hours, 17 minutes. Jorge Soler, who still doesn't have a major league hit since July 2, drove in the game's only run with a sacrifice fly in the second.

Junis (1-0) allowed three hits in seven-plus innings. Kelvin Herrera struck out two in a perfect ninth for his first save.

Matthew Boyd (0-1) was sharp for the Tigers, allowing a run and four hits in six innings.

        Wednesday’s List of 13: Mid-week musings…….

        13) Rams traded 1st and 6th-round draft picks to New England Tuesday for WR Brandin Cooks and a 4th-round pick. Two things about this:

        a) I no longer have to worry about the Rams trading for Odell Beckham
        b) Rams still have eight draft picks, but only one of their original picks- four of those eight picks are in the 6th round. Their first pick right now will be the 87th selection.

        12) This means all those geniuses who do a mock draft every 36 hours get to do more of them, since the #23 pick moves to the Patriots. Still 22 days until the draft.

        11) Louisville QB Lamar Jackson is being advised by his mother instead of by an agent. No one knows what this means exactly, since the mom is a private person and hasn’t said much. Will be curious to see if an agent is hired once a team drafts him, and negotiations for a contract begin.

One thing, for sure; Lamar Jackson is going to play QB, and only QB.

        10) This was the 4th time in last five years the college basketball national champ went 6-0 vs spread in its NCAA tournament games.

        9) This is a little hard to believe, but they said on TV Monday night that Padres’ reliever Adam Cimber is first the major leaguer ever to wear number 90.

        8) Arizona 8, Dodgers 7 (15)— This game ended at 3:26am Tuesday morning; had the game gone to the 16th inning, both teams would’ve used position players to pitch.

        7) Two pitchers have already been removed from games this season with a no-hitter going: Minnesota’s Kyle Gibson Saturday in Baltimore, Pirates’ Trevor Williams Sunday in Detroit.

        6) A’s drew only 7,416 fans for their home game with Texas Monday night, their smallest home crowd since 2003. Oy.

A’s drew 9,157 fans last night on Free Parking Tuesday, which doesn’t seem like a big promotion until you realize they charge $30 to park a car in Oakland.

        5) There were 144 hitters last year who got enough plate appearances to qualify for the batting title; 89 of them hit 20+ home runs, which means 61.8% of hitters who qualified for the batting title hit 20+ homers. In 2014, that number was 32%.

        4) Number of times a pitcher went thru the opponent’s whole lineup three times in a game:
        2017 1,196 (39.9 per team, out of 162 games)
        2016 1,405
        2015 1,670
        2014 1,906

Unless the guy is an ace or really rolling that night, starting pitchers aren’t allowed to go thru the lineup three times anymore.

        3) Rhode Island Rams were apparently going to hire Rick Pitino as their new basketball coach, until the school president put the kibosh on that. Now what?

        2) San Diego 3B Christian Villanueva was 0-4 for the season before Tuesday; he hit three homers for the Padres last night in their win over Colorado.

1— Brewers 5, Cardinals 4— Christian Yelich tied game with a dramatic two-out HR in the 9th, then Ryan Braun won it with a walk-off tater.

This was the first game in MLB history where the first two batters of the game homered, and also the last two.

LEADING OFF: Daytime aces, Pirates thriving without 'Cutch
          April 3, 2018

A look at what's happening all around the majors Wednesday:

          ---

          ACES EARLY

Might be a good day to call off from work: There are seven games starting around 1 p.m. local time or earlier, and those matchups are loaded with top-notch pitchers. Washington's Max Scherzer, the Yankees' Luis Severino, Kansas City's Danny Duffy, the Mets' Noah Syndergaard, Houston's Dallas Keuchel and Cleveland's Corey Kluber are all slated to pitch games scheduled between noon and 4 p.m. ET.

NO `CUTCH, NO COLE, NO PROBLEM

The Pirates are 4-0 for the third time in 35 years, and their young players are picking up confidence as they begin the season without traded stars Andrew McCutchen and Gerrit Cole. Rotation linchpin Jameson Taillon overpowered Minnesota for more than five innings in Pittsburgh's 5-4 victory Monday in the home opener, and Colin Moran - acquired from Houston for Cole - hit a grand slam for his first homer as a Pirate. Ivan Nova tries to get the Pirates win No. 5 in a showdown with new Twins righty Jake Odorizzi.

          KING IN SWING?

Felix Hernandez tries to follow an encouraging season opener when Seattle plays at San Francisco. The longtime ace of the Mariners only averaged 90.3 mph on his fastball opening day - down from his mid-90s heat a decade ago - but he commanded it well and baffled Cleveland with a biting curveball over 5 1/3 scoreless innings. Hernandez will share the hill with Giants right-hander Johnny Cueto, who allowed one hit in seven innings during a 1-0 win over the Dodgers in his first start.

          OUT LIKE A LAMB

Arizona will be without third baseman Jake Lamb for a bit after he sprained the left AC joint in his shoulder. Lamb was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday after getting hurt in Monday's 8-7, 15-inning win over the Dodgers. Lamb was injured making a diving catch in the ninth inning, but stuck around long enough to dive across home plate for the winning run - a move that left him in obvious pain. The Diamondbacks are set to wrap a three-game series vs. the Dodgers.

Phillies reliever unwraps rare Ohtani card on snow day
                    April 3, 2018

NEW YORK (AP) As an early April snowstorm hit New York City on Monday morning, Philadelphia Phillies reliever Pat Neshek found a fun way to pass the time.

Opening packs of baseball cards, the avid collector unwrapped a rare gem and shared the news on Twitter.

''Ripping open packs in ny, I found it!!!!!!! Ohtani (hash)'d 1/69,'' the 37-year-old Neshek tweeted , along with a photo of his prize - an autographed Shohei Ohtani rookie card from the 2018 Topps Heritage set.

Since the two-way phenom signed with the Los Angeles Angels in December, his cards and other autographed items have been highly coveted throughout the sports collectible industry.

This particular card was signed by the Japanese star in red ink, making it the rarer of two parallel groups of Ohtani autographs found within the set. Only 69 of this variation were produced, each one numbered individually. What makes Neshek's lucky haul extra special is it's the first one in the group that the pitcher/slugger signed, numbered ''01/69''.

Neshek often solicits autographs from teammates and opponents to add to his robust memorabilia collection. When he discovered the Ohtani card, though, he got a little flustered and accidentally placed it upside down in a protective case.

''Noticed how excited I was and put this in upside down...brutal,'' he tweeted.

Ohtani autographed cards have been selling for a premium on secondary markets such as eBay, which is exactly where Neshek's discovery appeared to be headed.

''Im going to give this to my dad to put up on eBay later this week, buy some more cases!'' Neshek tweeted .

With listings ranging from $2,000 to $5,500 for the card, Neshek and his father may be able to purchase a whole bunch of boxes with their potential windfall.

A two-time All-Star who signed a $16.25 million, two-year contract with the Phillies last offseason, Neshek is on the 10-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder. He was sent for an MRI in Philadelphia on Tuesday, the team said.

Philadelphia's scheduled game against the New York Mets on Monday night was postponed due to the wintry weather and will be made up in July.

Diamondbacks sweep Dodgers, Corbin strikes out 12
                        April 4, 2018

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Shohei Ohtani hit his second homer in two games at Angel Stadium in the fifth inning, and Zack Cozart had walk-off homer in the 13th inning of the Los Angeles Angels' 3-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday.

One day after Ohtani hit an electrifying three-run homer in his first home plate appearance, the Japanese two-way rookie connected for a tying two-run homer off AL Cy Young winner Corey Kluber in his second game at the Big A.

Neither team scored again after Ohtani's blast until Cozart, the Angels' new infielder, connected for his first career walk-off homer against Zach McAllister (0-1).

Ohtani also singled leading off the 10th to go 2 for 5, giving him six hits this season and five in his only two home games. The Angels' rookie sensation will make his first home pitching start Sunday against Oakland, one week after beating the Athletics on the road in his big-league pitching debut.

The Angels hadn't had a walk-off homer in extra innings since Aug. 9, 2014, when Albert Pujols did it.

Noe Ramirez (1-1), the Angels' eighth reliever, came on with two outs in the 13th and struck out Erik Gonzalez with two Indians on base.

                        DIAMONDBACKS 3, DODGERS 0

PHOENIX (AP) - Patrick Corbin shut out Los Angeles on one hit over 7 1/3 innings, striking out a career-high 12 for Arizona.

The Diamondbacks swept the three-game series and won their ninth straight regular-season game against the Dodgers, going back to a pair of three-game series sweeps last season.

Corbin (2-0) retired 14 batters in a row to start the game, eight on strikeouts. The Dodgers struggled to make solid contact, and it took Matt Kemp's bloop double with two outs in the fifth to break up Corbin's no-hit bid. Kemp had the Dodgers' only hit of the game.

Corbin was taken out after walking Kemp with one out in the eighth inning.

Brad Boxberger earned his second save with a scoreless ninth. The Dodgers had only four base runners, two in the ninth on Boxberger walks. The Diamondbacks scored a run in each of the first three innings.

                        YANKEES 7, RAYS 2

NEW YORK (AP) - Giancarlo Stanton turned boos to cheers with his first Yankee Stadium home run in pinstripes, an emphatic go-ahead drive in the first inning to helo New York complete a two-game sweep.

Stanton turned on a high slider from Blake Snell (0-1), driving the ball 458 feet to left field at 117.9 mph for a two-run homer with the hardest-hit ball in the major leagues so for this young season.

Acquired from Miami in December, the major league home run champion was booed a day earlier when he struck out a career-worst five times in the Yankees' home opener.

Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez also hit two-run homers as the Bronx Bombers lived up to their nickname. Judge connected off reliever Matt Andriese, the pitcher who gave up a home run to Judge in the slugger's first big league at-bat in August 2016. Sanchez's drive ended an 0-for-17 slide.

Luis Severino (2-0) allowed two runs and five hits with seven strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings, the longest outing by a New York starter this year. The Yankees improved to 4-2 under new manager Aaron Boone and won their 11th straight home series against the Rays. Tampa Bay has lost five straight games since beating Boston in its opener and is off to its worst start since 2011.

                        METS 4, PHILLIES 2.

NEW YORK (AP) - Yoenis Cespedes homered, Amed Rosario hit a two-run triple and New York's bullpen faced the minimum batters over five scoreless innings.

New York swept the weather-shortened two-game series.

With runners at the corners and two outs in the sixth, Rosario cleared the bases with a liner over the head of shallow-playing right fielder Nick Williams to chase reliever Drew Hutchison (1-1) and snap a 2-2 tie. The 22-year-old Rosario has driven in five runs in as many games.

Mets relievers continued their strong start in a game that started 97 minutes late due to rain. Converted starter Robert Gsellman (1-0) threw two perfect innings. Hansel Robles struck out the side in his first appearance this season. A.J. Ramos pitched a scoreless eighth and closer Jeurys Familia earned his third save in three chances. Mets relievers have allowed three runs in 20 1/3 innings (1.33 ERA), and the pitching staff as a whole has 61 strikeouts through the season's first five games.

                        ASTROS 3, ORIOLES 2

HOUSTON (AP) - Josh Reddick had three hits, and Alex Bregman's tiebreaking RBI single in the seventh inning lifted Houston past Baltimore for a three-game sweep.

Miguel Castro (0-1) took over for Dylan Bundy to start the seventh and walked Derek Fisher with one out. Fisher stole second base with two outs and the Astros went on top when he scored on Bregman's single to left field. Reddick, who started the season 1 for 11, singled three times after hitting a two-run homer and a grand slam in his last two at-bats Tuesday night.

Houston starter Dallas Keuchel allowed five hits and two runs - one earned - with four walks in five innings. Brad Peacock (1-0) allowed two hits in three scoreless innings.

                        TWINS 7, PIRATES 3.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Brian Dozier homered for the third straight game, Miguel Sano drove in a pair of runs in frigid conditions and Minnesota handed Pittsburgh its first loss of the season.

Dozier hit a drive off the top of the left-field wall in the third inning for his fourth home run in four days. Sano finished 3 for 5 and started Minnesota's four-run rally in the sixth with an RBI single. He added another run-scoring single in the seventh. Eduardo Escobar also drove in two runs for the Twins.

Taylor Rogers (1-0) got two outs in the fifth to pick up the win.

Josh Bell hit a 432-foot home run through the snow flurries in the first inning for Pittsburgh. Corey Dickerson added two hits for the Pirates, but Pittsburgh's attempt to start 5-0 for the first time since 1983 ended when the Twins jumped on Ivan Nova (0-1) and the bullpen in the sixth.

WHITE SOX 4, BLUE JAYS 3

TORONTO (AP) - Matt Davidson hit his fourth home run of the season, Jose Abreu added a tiebreaking solo shot in the eighth inning and Chicago snapped Toronto's four-game winning streak.

Davidson homered leading off the second inning, driving a 3-1 pitch from Aaron Sanchez over the left-field fence. With the score tied at 3, Abreu connected on a 3-0 pitch from reliever Ryan Tepera (1-1), sending a solo shot into the second deck in left-center field for his second home run of the year.

Right-hander Nate Jones (1-0) picked up the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Closer Joakim Soria earned his second save of the season with a flawless ninth inning.

                        GIANTS 10, MARINERS 1

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Pablo Sandoval splashed a three-run homer into McCovey Cove while making a rare start, Johnny Cueto earned his first win of the season and San Francisco jumped all over Seattle ace Felix Hernandez.

Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford and Gorkys Hernandez also homered as the Giants got their bats going at last to back Cueto (1-0).

San Francisco rebounded quickly after losing its home opener a day earlier. Sandoval drew a bases-loaded walk to put the Giants ahead against Hernandez (1-1) in the first, when they also scored runs on a wild pitch and Crawford's sacrifice fly.

Gorkys Hernandez connected leading off the second. Belt started the fifth with a drive to left. Sandoval's drive into the water three batters later chased Hernandez, and Crawford followed with his first homer. It was the first time the Giants hit three homers in one inning since June 2, 2016, at Atlanta - also in the fifth. They last did it at home on May 7, 2007, in the fifth inning as well, against the Mets.

                        BRAVES 7, NATIONALS 1

ATLANTA (AP) - Mike Foltynewicz outpitched Max Scherzer, Preston Tucker hit a three-run homer and Atlanta beat Washington.

Foltynewicz (1-0) allowed four hits, one run and two walks and had eight strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. He snapped an eight-start skid during which he went 0-7 with a 7.34 ERA.

Scherzer (1-1) gave up six hits, two walks and five runs - two earned - in five innings. The three-time Cy Young Award winner struck out seven.

The Braves, with three straight seasons of at least 90 losses, improved to 4-2 and are two games over .500 for the first time since April 22, 2015.

                        CARDINALS 6, BREWERS 0

MILWAUKEE (AP) - Carlos Martinez pitched into the ninth inning and struck out 10, Yadier Molina homered and St. Louis beat error-prone Milwaukee.

Leadoff batter Dexter Fowler scored twice in the first three innings for the Cardinals.

A 4-0 lead after four innings was more than enough cushion for the hard-throwing Martinez (1-1). The two-time All-Star rebounded from a rough opening-day start last week against the New York Mets by cruising through the Brewers' dangerous lineup at hitter-friendly Miller Park.

Martinez allowed four hits and two walks. He retired 16 straight before Domingo Santana laced a one-out single in the seventh. The right-hander's fastball still registered 93 mph in the ninth.

Molina hit a solo shot to left field in the fourth off Jhoulys Chacin (0-1).

                        ROCKIES 5, PADRES 2

SAN DIEGO (AP) - Jon Gray pitched seven scoreless innings, Trevor Story and Ian Desmond each drove in two runs and Colorado beat San Diego.

Gray (1-1) shut down the Padres a night after they won 8-4 behind rookie Christian Villanueva's three home runs and five RBIs. Gray retired Villanueva in three straight at-bats, including a strikeout. The right-hander struck out seven and walked none before three relievers finished a six-hitter.

Cory Spangenberg had two of the four hits off Gray. Wade Davis closed for his third save.

The Rockies hit Clayton Richard (0-1) hard in scoring all their runs in the first two innings.

                        ATHLETICS 6, RANGERS 2

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Sean Manaea pitched three-hit ball over eight innings and Oakland defeated Texas.

Jed Lowrie had a two-run single in a four-run fourth. Matt Chapman scored two runs and Bruce Maxwell added an RBI double for the A's, who had lost four of five since winning on opening day.

Every Oakland starter had at least one hit or scored a run.

Manaea (1-1) struck out four and walked one while beating the Rangers for the third consecutive time.

Doug Fister (1-1) allowed five runs - two earned - and seven hits in 3 2/3 innings.

SAN DIEGO (AP) The San Diego Padres have placed outfielder Wil Myers on the 10-day disabled list with nerve irritation in his right arm.

To take his roster spot, the Padres recalled right-handed reliever Phil Maton from Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Myers is hitting .250 with one homer and one RBI in three games. He moved back to the outfield this season to make room for Eric Hosmer at first base.

Myers also missed time this season with a back injury.

The Cardinals plan to activate Wainwright when the Arizona Diamondbacks visit Busch Stadium on Thursday, ending the veteran right-hander's season-opening stint on the 10-day DL for a strained left hamstring. He has been running and shagging fly balls with the team in Milwaukee, where the Cardinals were wrapping up a three-game series on Wednesday.

Manager Mike Matheny said the team decided that Wainwright was ready after giving him one last checkup Wednesday morning.

''I think they invented tests for me to try and pass to prove to them that I was ready,'' Wainwright said.

He'll take the start that was initially scheduled to go to Michael Wacha. The rest of the rotation will be pushed back a day to make room for Wainwright, whose 1,583 career strikeouts is second in Cardinals history only behind Hall of Famer Bob Gibson (3,117).

''I told them I would take whatever test they needed me to take. I didn't go into the manager's office and tell him `I want tomorrow,''' Wainwright said. ''I wanted to be respectful of Wacha and his position of potentially pitching tomorrow ... when he's also a very deserving candidate.''

The Cardinals optioned Jack Flaherty to Triple-A Memphis to make room for Wainwright. Flaherty allowed one run on six hits in five innings against Milwaukee on Tuesday.

Thursday’s List of 13: Nobody asked me, but…….

                              13) One of the basic truths of life: Baseball players get hurt a lot. Season started with 113 players on the disabled list, little less than four players per team.

                              12) There were 925 sacrifice bunts in the major leagues LY, fewest of any season since 1900.

                              11) When Ichiro Suzuki gets inducted into the Hall of Fame someday, it’ll a proud day for retired P Ryan Vogelsong. Ichiro was 0-15 in his career against Vogelsong.

                              10) New England now has four of the first 63 picks in the NFL Draft in three weeks. This is the first time since 1998 the Patriots have two 1st-round picks and two 2nd-round picks in a draft.

                              9) 80-year old Jim Harrick, who won a national title at UCLA in 1995, will be on Mark Gottfried’s staff at Cal-Northridge next winter. Gottfried was an assistant on that UCLA staff in ’95, with Lorenzo Romar and Steve Lavin.

                              8) Most NCAA tournament wins since 2000:
                              Kansas 49, North Carolina 48, Duke 46, Mich State/Kentucky 42

                              7) Dodgers pitchers allowed 8 bases-loaded walks all of last season; they issued three in the 7th inning alone Tuesday night in Arizona.

                              6) They had the par-3 tournament at Augusta National Wednesday; guys can have whoever they want caddy for them, and Jack Nicklaus had one of his grandsons caddy for him. They let the caddies hit a few shots, and the 15-year old grandson gets a hole-in-one, his first ever. Wow.

                              5) Pro golfer Tony Finau also got a hole-in-one Wednesday, but he dislocated his ankle while he was celebrating the ace. He put the ankle back in place and finished his round. Was odd to see; he just reached down and put the ankle back in place.

                              4) Thursday, Baltimore Ravens’ GM/coach Ozzie Newsome and John Harbaugh will be questioned under oath as part of the Colin Kaepernick collusion grievance.

Wednesday, the Ravens gave QB Robert Griffin III a one-year, $1M contract for 2018.

Maybe I watch too many movies, but I’m thinking this isn’t a coincidence.

                              3) College basketball coaching carousel:
                              — St Peter’s coach John Donne stays in the MAAC, but moves to Marist.
                              — Rhode Island promoted assistant David Cox to head coach.
                              — East Carolina signed Florida Gulf Coast coach Joe Dooley as its new coach.
                              — South Dakota hired Grand Canyon assistant Todd Lee as its new coach.

                              2) Cardinals led off Tuesday’s game with back/back homers off of Chase Anderson; last time the Redbirds started a game that way was when Curt Flood and Gene Freese led off with home runs off a guy named Sandy Koufax, on August 17, 1958.

1— Colorado Rockies gave Charlie Blackmon a 6-year, $108M contract, so he is staying in the friendly confines of Coors Field and will never, ever get traded in our fantasy league.
