Dodgers open as favorites to win World Series over Astros
    Andrew Caley

The Dodgers stormed their way to the World Series, going 7-1 and outscoring their opponets 48-19. They open as -140 favorites to win the 2017 World Series.

The 2017 Fall Classic is set and to no one’s surprise, the Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorites to claim their first World Series title since 1988.

The Westgate LV Superbook opened the World Series price with the Dodgers as -140 favorites, while the Houston Astros, who outlasted the New York Yankees to win the American League Pennant in seven games hit the board as +120 underdogs.

Los Angeles led the Majors with 104 wins this season and are 7-1 so far this postseason. The Dodgers swept a 93-win Arizona Diamondbacks team before dismantling the defending champion Cubs in five games. Los Angeles has outscored its opponents by a score of 48-19 during the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the Astros defeated the Red Sox in four games in the divisional round, before going the distance with the Yankees in the ALCS. The Astros also topped the 100-win plateau, notching 101 wins this season, making it the first time since 1970 a World Series will feature two teams with 100 wins or more.

What gives the Dodgers the edge in this series (aside from home field advantage), is their pitching staff. They ranked No. 1 in the MLB in starter ERA at 3.39 and were fourth in bullpen ERA at 3.38 and the Dodgers’ relievers have been even better when it matters. They have allowed just three earned runs in 28.2 innings this postseason and are currently in the midst of a scoreless inning streak that’s at 23 – a Major League record.

However, they will have their hands full with the No. 1 offense in baseball. The Astros ranked first in runs, batting average and OPS this season and were second when it came to the long ball.

Game 1 goes Tuesday night in Los Angeles where the pitching matchup is expected to be as epic as they come, as Clayton Kershaw takes the mound for the Dodgers, while Dallas Keuchel takes the ball for the Astros.

Although the line for Game 1 has not officially hit the board, Scott Kaminsky, director of offshore sportsbook TheGreek.com, expects the Dodgers to open somewhere around -150 favorites.

Kershaw, had another Kershaw-like season, going 18-4 with a 2.31 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP, while striking out 202 batters. In two postseason starts he is 2-0 with 3.63 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. The Dodgers could also get a boost, with shortstop Corey Seager expected to return to the lineup for Game 1.

Keuchel meanwhile, went 14-5 with a 2.90 ERA and 1.12 WHIP. In the playoffs, he is 2-1 with a 2.60 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.

The Dodgers opened the season at 10/1 to win the World Series, while the Astros opened at 12/1.

Hitting aka Astros vs. Pitching aka Dodgers

This was the actual series that I wanted to see even though I'm a Yankees fan. Yankees had a great season for a team that was in the rebuilding phase and with Sabathia close to retirement.

I told my wife, before the game last night, that this is the way I wanted to see it. Bingo! The two best teams are the ones left standing this time and it should be a great WS!

You're sure right about those Yankees having a better season than expected. If the trading season doesn't wreck their roster, they'll be the team to beat in the AL next year.

Heck, the Yankees want to sign that Japan player that both pitches and hits. I would think they learned their lesson signing players for big money from overseas.
