    Notre Dame 43-29, 7-3

    NC State 28-44, 3-2
    Georgia Tech 25-47, 0-0

    Wake Forest 22-50, 0-1
    Boston College 10-62, 0-0

Armadillo: Thursday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but………

    13) Sometimes there are no good options, something I’m sure OKC Thunder coach Billy Donovan is thinking about now that his team was eliminated from the NBA Playoffs by the Houston Rockets in five very interesting games.

Fact #1: In the five games, Oklahoma City was +15 with Russell Westbrook on the floor, -58 when he was off the floor. Donovan tried very hard to find spots to rest Westbrook, but when he did, the team suffered.

Know-it-alls like myself suggested that Westbrook never come out of the game, but in the series, (Fact #2) Westbrook shot 14-49 in the 4th quarter- thats 28.6%, which is dismal.

He needed rest, he needed better teammates, and in the end, without those, they just were not gonna beat Houston, no matter what strategy Donovan used.

    12) I’m not always crazy about TNT’s Reggie Miller as an analyst, but thought he did an excellent job on the Game 5 Houston-OKC telecast— he stated a definitive opinion about playing/sitting Westbrook, said why he thought that way and then let the game unfold. Well done.

    11) Trea Turner hit for the cycle in Denver Tuesday nite, had seven RBI; he is the first player since Troy Tulowitzki in 2009 to hit for the cycle and also knock in 7+ runs in that game.

    10) I’m sure the organizers at the Zurich Classic are thrilled that Jordan Spieth is playing in their event in New Orleans this week; I’m not sure they’re thrilled that word got out that the reason that Spieth is playing is because he lost a bet with partner Ryan Palmer’s caddy.

    9) Miami Marlins are playing the Phillies this week, but the NFL bought up all the hotel rooms to Philly this week for their Draft, so the Marlins are staying in Wilmington, Delaware, which according to MapQuest, is 32.6 miles away.

    8) Michigan Wolverines are having spring football practice in Italy; I’m not sure why, but that has to be pretty expensive.

    7) Odd college basketball stat: over the last three years, Hofstra is 5-22 vs spread in CAA home games, which is awful; during same time, they’re 17-9-1 vs spread on CAA road, 9-1-1 as road underdogs the last two seasons.

    6) Kansas City Chiefs haven’t drafted a QB in the first round since Todd Blackledge in 1983.

    5) Big week for UNLV’s basketball program; they’ve bagged three excellent recruits, including a 5-star center, Brandon McCoy. Rebels will be back near the top of the Mountain West next winter, helped by Steve Fisher retiring as coach at San Diego State.

    4) A’s get good news; Kendall Graveman will be activated and pitch for Oakland Thursday in Anaheim against the Angels.

    3) Sounds like a group of 5+ investors, which includes Jeb Bush/Derek Jeter, are going to buy the Miami Marlins for $1.3B from hideous Jeffrey Loria, who won’t be missed.

Sounds like Jeb Bush won by losing; I’d rather own the Marlins than be President.

    2) NBA fined Houston Rockets’ owner Les Alexander $100,000 after he left his court side seat during live game action to yell at referee Bill Kennedy during Game 5 Tuesday nite.

When you look at how close fans are to the action in NBA games, it really is surprising that stuff like this doesn’t happen more often.

1— ESPN fired around 100 people this week, many of them people we’ve seen on TV for several years- tough day in the TV industry.

My question is this: How did they decide who they kept, and who they told to take a hike?

For the foreseeable future, every time I watch ESPN, I’ll be wondering why they kept the person on my TV screen instead of someone they fired. Human nature, I guess.

MLB Daily Line Drive: Thursday's Picks, Betting Odds and Analysis

Antonio Senzatela has won three consecutive starts, working seven innings in each of the performances.

              Double-Play Picks

Washington Nationals at Colorado Rockies (+105, 11)

We start today off with one of the "cardinal sins" of sports betting - picking the Under in Denver.

Times have changed in the Mile High City. Sure the air is still thin and the ball still flies, but the Rockies now have a really good young pitching staff and their top performer early in the 2017 season takes the mound Thursday.

Rookie Antonio Senzatela has been dynamite in four starts putting up a 3-0 record to go with an ERA of 2.08. Oh yeah, and his numbers have actually been better at Coors Field where he is 2-0, 1.93 ERA, and 0.71 WHIP.

Opposing Sanzatela today for the Nationals will be lefty Gio Gonzalez. G-Gon is off to a fast start to the 2017 season with a 2-0 record, 1.35 ERA, and 1.05 WHIP. Gonzalez is coming off a tremendous road start in his last outing where he held the New York Mets to just two hits over 6.1 innings at Citi Field.

Two strong starting pitchers and and pitcher's wind blowing straight in from center field at 10-15 miles per hour.

              Pick: Under 11

San Diego Padres at Arizona Diamondbacks (-170, 10.5)

Today is the final game of this four-game series between the Padres and D-Backs and the scoreboard operator at Chase Field must be relieved that this one is coming to an end. Good thing for him/her they don't have an old-timey wooden scoreboard like at Fenway Park or Wrigley Field. Over the first three games of the series these two teams have combined for 38 runs scored - that's an average of 12.66 runs per game. Add to that the fact that the Diamondbacks own a 10-2 O/U record at home in 2017 and should be expecting more fireworks today.

The two starting pitchers today are questionable, at best. Jered Weaver has been better in 2017 than he's been since 2014 in Anaheim. He's throwing more ground balls (which is what he needs to due to have success at this point in his career) but he still owns a 4.24 ERA in a trio of road starts thus far. Taijuan Walker will get the ball for the D-Backs and he has been horrible at home (despite his 1-0 record) with a 6.17 ERA in two trips to the Chase Field bump.

The first three games of this series have sailed Over the total, and game four shouldn't be any different.

              Pick: Over 10.5

              Yesterday's Picks 1-1
              Season to date: 13-12-1

              Streaking and Slumping Starting Pitchers

              Streaking:
Chris Sale, Boston Red Sox (1-1, 0.91 ERA, $196)

The Red Sox gave up quite the haul to bring Chris Sale to Boston this offseason and so far he has been more than worth it. Let’s just hope no one asks him a jersey he doesn’t like.

Ten, twelve, thirteen. Those are the number of strikeouts Sale has racked up in his last three starts. The dominant lefty has KO’d 42 batters this season overall with just six walks, pitching to a 0.91 ERA, while limiting opponents to a .194 OBP. Sale and the BoSox are -175 chalk hosting the rival Yankees today.

              Slumping:
Justin Verlander, Detroit Tigers (1-2, 6.04 ERA, $-35)

Verlander started his season strong, allowing just two earned runs in 13.1 innings with 14 strikeouts, but his two starts since then have been a disaster.

The former MVP has allowed an unthinkable 13 runs in his last two starts in just 9 innings pitched with a super high WHIP of 2.33, thanks in large part to giving up seven walks. The Tigers are -133 home faves this afternoon against the Mariners.

              Thursday's Top Trends

              * Cardinals are 0-8 in their last eight interleague home games vs. a right-handed starter. -190 vs. Blue Jays righty Mat Latos.
              * Rockies are 7-0 in their last seven home games vs. a left-handed starter. +105 vs. Nationals lefty Gio Gonzalez.
              * Yankees are 7-0 in their last seven games vs. a left-handed starter. +155 vs. Red Sox lefty Chris Sale.
              * Under is 6-0 in Giants last six games following a win. O/U: 7.5 vs. Dodgers.

Weather to Keep an Eye On

The starting pitchers could be given a hand in Detroit, where the Tigers are slated to host the Seattle Mariners. The forecast is calling for a pitchers wind at Comerica Thursday, with gusts coming in from right field at 18-20 miles per hour. There is also a 50 percent chance of rain early on, but it should taper off during the game. The total is currently 8.5.

Meanwhile in Cleveland, where the Indians are hosting the Houston Astros, the opposite winds are in effect. Batters should get a boost with winds gusting out to right field at 15-17 miles per hour during the game. There is also a chance of thunderstorms around first pitch. The total is currently 8.5.

              Ump of the Day

Kerwin Danley: Danley has been one of the most prolific Under umpires over the last several years. In fact, during the last five full seasons, the Under is 86-47 in games in which Danley has officiated. That is a 64.7 percent success rate. His strike rate in those five years is 63.92 and is currently 64.66 percent this season. Danley will be calling balls and strikes in San Francisco today as the Giants host the Los Angeles Dodgers. Additionally, the Under is 16-5 in Danley's last 21 games overall and 8-0 in his last eight games behind home plate when the Dodgers are playing. The total is currently 7.5.
