    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

    — Jazz 97, Clippers 95— Rudy Gobert hyperextended his knee, a problem for Utah.

    — Cavaliers 109, Pacers 108— CJ Miles missed a 14-footer at the buzzer for Indiana.

    — Bucks 97, Raptors 83— Surprisingly easy win for Milwaukee.

    — Ottawa 4, Bruins 3 OT— Senators even series 1-1, scoring at 1:59 of overtime.

    — Maple Leafs 4, Capitals 3, 2OT— Toronto scored 11:53 into the second overtime.

    — Anaheim 3, Calgary 2— Flames have now lost 29 games in a row in Anaheim.

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday

    13) Saturday was Jackie Robinson Day across major league baseball; Mr Robinson put up with a lot of BS when he broke into the major leagues and deserves recognition, but what about Larry Doby, who did the same thing, only in the American League with Cleveland? No one ever mentions the guy.

    12) Underrated baseball record: Most consecutive times reaching base— 17, held by Earl Averill (1962) and another guy who did it in 1883.

    11) 26 players on the Cincinnati Reds’ 40-man roster are pitchers; because of that, the Reds are targeting versatile players who give their manager more flexibility within games and also in making players, giving starters days off.

    10) You listen to Reds’ games on TV, no hometown homers there; oh they want the Reds to win, but if they play badly, their own announcers will rip them. Much different than most places.

    9) Dodgers 8, Arizona 4— Since start of the 2014 season, Diamondbacks are now 17-42 against Los Angeles.

    8) Blue Jays 2, Orioles 1— Kendrys Morales won it with a walk-off tater, a much-needed win for a Toronto team off to a dismal 2-9 start.

    7) Astros 10, A’s 6— Houston scored 10 runs, despite not getting a hit in the first six innings. It is hard to describe how badly the A’s played in the last three innings- they led 5-0 after five.

    6) On February 12, 2016, the A’s to Khris Davis from Milwaukee for minor leaguers Bowdien Derby and Jacob Nottingham.

Derby is a pitcher who was 6-13, 5.59 in the Class A Florida State league last year. He is a relief pitcher in AA this season.

Nottingham is a catcher who hit .234 in the AA Southern League LY and is back there this year.

In a year-plus with Oakland, Khris Davis has hit 47 homers in 161 games.

    5) Former Washington Huskies coach Lorenzo Romar signed on with Arizona as an assistant coach, taking the place of Joe Pasternack, the new coach at UCSB.

    4) Nashville 5, Chicago 0— Blackhawks didn’t score a goal in two home playoff games this week.

    3) Speaking of Nashville, they had 11,097 fans for a AAA baseball game Saturday. Not bad.

    2) Our thoughts and prayers are with Celtics’ star Isaiah Thomas, who lost his 22-year old sister in a car accident in the state of Washington Saturday morning. Terrible tragedy.

1— I am a basketball guy, but the NHL playoffs are so much better than the NBA’s version; there is nothing sign sports quite as dramatic as overtime in a playoff game.

San Jose has a player named Logan Couture who to hit in the face with a puck, but is still playing, even though it hurts him to breathe!!!!! Think about that for a second.

While NBA players ask for days off for a mental break from a long season, Couture is playing with a mouth held together by plastic and wire- he probably needs 7 or 8 teeth replaced/taken out completely after the season.

MLB Daily Line Drive: Sunday's picks, betting odds and analysis

The struggling St. Louis Cardinals bring a 3-8 record to The Bronx to take on the surprising New York Yankees (7-4) on Sunday Night Baseball.

The baseball schedule can be tough to navigate for even a seasoned baseball bettor. We break down all the betting angles for you including picks, trends, weather and analysis to help you handicap the MLB like a pro.

              Double-Play Picks

Chicago White Sox at Minnesota Twins (-130, 9.5)

Both the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins have gotten off to somewhat surprising starts in 2017. The Sox sit at .500 with a 5-5 record and the Twinkies are a very surprising 7-4 to start the season.

Sunday afternoon's meeting will feature a starting pitching matchup of "Big Game" James Shields taking on lefty Hector Santiago.

Although Shields has gotten off to a pretty strong start this season (1-0, 1.69 ERA), we all know what he is truly capable of - combined 6-19 in 2016 split between the San Diego Padres and the White Sox.

Santiago, on the other hand, has also gotten off to a solid start in 2017 (1-1, 2.38 ERA, 0.88 WHIP) and was very efficient, if not borderline terrific, in his only other home start of the season - a 9-1 Twins victory over the Detroit Tigers. It's also worth noting that the Twins went 2-0 in Santiago's pair of starts last season against the division rival White Sox.

              Pick: Twins -130

St. Louis Cardinals at New York Yankees (-140, 8)

Sunday Night Baseball this week features an interleague matchup involving a pair of historic franchises who will each be running veteran (if not questionable) arms out to the hill for this "Game Of The Week" showdown.

The struggling St. Louis Cardinals bring a 3-8 record to The Bronx to take on the surprising New York Yankees (7-4).

Adam Wainwright will climb the bump for the Cards and he has been nothing short of awful so far this season. An 0-2 record with an ERA of 7.00 only begins to tell the story of how bad Wainwright has looked early in 2017. A WHIP of 2.000 and a Hits/9 Innings figure of 14.0 tells us that the Yankees young bats should have a field day Sunday night.

The Yankees counter with righty Micheal Pineda who, like the majority of his career, has been a 50/50 proposition thus far in 2017. Pineda has made two starts (both versus the Tampa Bay Rays) and looked dynamite in his last outing (7.2 innings, 2 hits, 1 earned run, 0 BBs, 11Ks) but significantly less than dynamite in his first start (3.2 innings, 8 hits, 4 earned runs). Sounds like he's due for another stinker.

Jeff Kellogg will be calling balls-and-strikes tonight and he has a traditionally tight strike zone which generally leads to more runs per game. Kellogg-called games in 2017 (he's done three home plates thus far) are averaging 9.67 runs per game. Although two of his three games this season have played Under, a 15-20 mile per hour wind blowing straight out to center field tonight (in addition to the tight strike zone) should bode well for the bats.

              Pick: Over 8

              Record to date: 2-2

              Streaking and Slumping Pitchers

              Streaking:
Drew Pomeranz, Boston Red Sox (1-0, 1.50 ERA, $100)

It's only been one start into the 2017 season, but in that one start Boston Red Sox' lefty Drew Pomeranz looked like the starting pitcher everyone was clamouring for at last season's trade deadline.

A very tidy six-inning performance against the offensively gifted Baltimore Orioles (4 hits, 1 earned run, 1 BB, 6 Ks) has Red Sox fans taking back all of the nasty things they said about him in 2016.

              Slumping:
              J.A. Happ, Toronto Blue Jays (0-2, 5.40 ERA, $-254)

Like most players wearing a Toronto Blue Jays uniform in 2017, starting pitcher J.A. Happ has struggled early in the season - dropping both of his starts thus far in April.

After racking up 20 wins in 2016, Jays backers were expecting Happ's surprising success to continue. A lack of strike zone control has led to some balls being left in bad locations and an alarming four home runs allowed already this season. Happ can certainly turn his season around in a hurry, but he simply has to get the ball down in the zone.
