    Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

Odds to win The Masters today:

    5-2— Justin Rose

    3-1— Jordan Spieth

    4-1— Ricky Fowler

    9-2— Sergio Garcia

    15-1— Ryan Moore, Adam Scott

    25-1— Charley Hoffman

    **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Random thoughts from the desert…….

    13) Brent Musburger posted a picture on Twitter Saturday of him buying a hot dog at the cart right by the SouthPoint sportsbook.

I’ve had lunch from that cart every day this week, so couple hours later, I went over for lunch and showed my new friend the vendor her picture on Twitter.

Her English isn’t great, so I’m not sure if she even knows what Twitter is, but she had no idea that Brent Musburger is really famous. She seemed happy about it, but not as happy as when I tossed some cash in her tip jar.

    12) First two games at Coors Field ended 2-1/4-2; what the hell has happened to Coors Field? More often that not over the years, seemed like the first team to 10 runs won games in Denver.

Colorado finally hired a former pitcher as its manager— has Bud Black made that big a difference already? Rockies are off to a surprising 5-1 start, tied with Arizona atop the NL West.

    11) Phillies 17, Nationals 3— Somewhere here in Las Vegas, someone bet Washington and the under in this game. Philly scored 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning. Oy.

Not sure why the Nationals sent #5 starter Joe Ross to the minors for the first ten days of the season, which made him ineligible to pitch this game, which normally would’ve been his start.

    10) Injury news: Washington lost SS Trea Turner (hamstring) and Bronx lost catcher Gary Sanchez (biceps).

    9) White Sox minor league pitcher Michael Kopech, acquired in the Chris Sale trade, struck out 10 hitters in 4.2 IP (allowed two runs) in his first minor league start of the season. Kopech is a very hard thrower; he is in the AA Southern League. Will be interesting to follow his progress.

    8) White Sox 6, Twins 2— Minnesota had gotten off to a 4-0 start, its first 4-0 start since 1987, but Miguel Gonzalez won his first start of the season and handed the Twins their first loss.

    7) A’s 6, Texas 1— As an A’s fan, the Josh Donaldson trade haunts me, but Oakland did acquire Kendall Graveman in that trade and he is turning into a pretty solid pitcher. He didn’t allow a hit in this game until the 7th inning. A’s have to tread water until Sonny Gray gets healthy. Rajai Davis made a great catch in centerfield in the 8th inning of this game.

    6) Arizona 11, Cleveland 2— Diamondbacks seem to wear a different uniform every night; their black ones are my favorite, but they only wear them at home on Saturdays. All six Arizona games this week have gone over the total. Diamondbacks are a fun team to watch.

    5) Sportsbook at SouthPoint has the voice of one game on a time; luckily for me, they’ve had the San Diego games on a lot this week, with Don Orsillo/Mark Grant on the call. Orsillo is one of my favorites, good natured, calls the game well, fun to listen to.

    4) Alan Zinter is the hitting coach for the Padres. Despite being the 1st round draft pick of the Mets in 1989, it took him 14 years to get to the major leagues, where he last only 67 games over two seasons, with Houston/Arizona.

Does that make him a better coach? Obviously he struggled himself as a player, so he understands what guys go thru in a slump. Orsillo/Grant speak glowingly of him.

    3) Miami Heat started the NBA season 11-30; now they’re 39-41 and tied for the #8 spot in the Eastern Conference. If they make the playoffs, does Erik Spoelstra et Coach of the Year?

    2) Saw some clips of Dwayne Wade’s son playing ball; young man is a lefty. Wonder what went into that decision; is being lefty an advantage in basketball? Does it even matter at all?

    1— Tampa Bay 3, Toronto 2 (11)— Game ended on the seldom-seen walk-off walk. Toronto is off to a less-than-stellar 1-4 start.

Sunday Night Baseball betting preview ond odds: Marlins at Mets
                ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Mets need a big outing from their ace after the Marlins battered New York pitching for the second night in a row in Saturday’s 8-1 victory, a game in which New York had to use six relievers.

                Miami Marlins at New York Mets (A: +170, H: -185, Total: 7)

Usually the sight of Noah Syndergaard on the mound spells bad news for the opposition, and the New York Mets’ hard-throwing right-hander starts Sunday night’s home game against the Miami Marlins looking to extend his domination. Syndergaard has not lost to New York’s National League East rival in three career starts, allowing just four runs while striking out 29 hitters with only two walks.

The Mets need a big outing from their ace after the Marlins battered New York pitching for the second night in a row in Saturday’s 8-1 victory, a game in which New York had to use six relievers. Miami catcher J.T. Realmuto continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-6 with a run scored and two RBIs from the leadoff spot to boost his average to .556. Realmuto has multi-hit performances in all four games he has played this season. Center fielder Marcel Ozuna is 5-for-8 in the series with three RBIs and slugged his first homer of the season Saturday to raise his average to .429.

                LINE HISTORY:
"Thor" and the Mets opened as -175 favorites at home but by Sunday afternoon that number was up to -185. The total hit the board at 7 and has yet to see any movement off the original number.

Marlins - 3B M. Prado (Mid April, hamstring), RP J. Locke (Out Indefinitely, bicep), RP O. Despaigne (Mid April, oblique).

                WEATHER REPORT:
The forecast for Sunday night at Citi Field is calling for clear skies and cool temperatures. It is expected to be a beautiful spring day in the New York area but by 8:00 ET first pitch temperatures will be down in the low-50's with a 10 mph wind blowing out to left field.

                PITCHING MATCHUP:
Marlins RH Edinson Volquez (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Mets RH Noah Syndergaard (0-0, 0.00)

Volquez pitched well in his Marlins debut on opening day Monday, striking out six while scattering four hits in five shutout innings at Washington. The 33-year-old threw 51 of his 82 pitches for strikes in facing four above the minimum through five innings. Volquez gave up two hits in six shutout innings to win his only start against New York last season, and is 3-5 with a 4.99 ERA in 10 career starts against the Mets.

One of the preseason favorites for the NL Cy Young Award, Syndergaard got off to a great start on opening day Monday against Atlanta, striking out seven with no walks in six shutout innings. He left the game with a blister on his right middle finger, and the Mets slid him back one day to Sunday as a precaution. Syndergaard has walked just four hitters in five career April starts, going 2-0 with 45 strikeouts.

                TRENDS:
