Holy $hit Betting Stat of the Day: Another day, another dog cashes in the CFL

Because underdogs in the Canadian Football League are absolutely on fire.

The Edmonton Eskimos were the latest underdog to cover the spread Thursday night, gutting out a 15-12 win over the Montreal Alouettes on the road, making pups a crazy good 22-6-1 ATS in CFL action so far this season.

That is a cash rate of 78.57 percent, which is almost unfathomable through 29 regular season games.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will try to be the latest underdogs to keep the trend going when they host the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night. The Bombers are currently listed as 6-point home dogs.

Friday's NFL Week 1 preseason betting primer

The opening week of the NFL preseason continues with six games on the board Friday. Here's a look at betting notes for the six matchups:

Tennessee Titans at Atlanta Falcons (-2.5, 37)

              * Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota is pumped to take the field for the first time as a pro Friday evening, but it won't be for long. According to Jim Wyatt of TitansOnline.com, the Oregon product is expected to play just one or two series. Wyatt says it will be a surprise if he's on the field for the second quarter.

              * The Dan Quinn era in Atlanta begins Friday night and while he brings a new attitude to the defense, he will be missing one of his top defenders in their preseason opener. Cornerback Desmond Trufant will not be available Friday, in addition to running backs Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman.

Carolina Panthers at Buffalo Bills (-3, 35.5)

*It will be interesting to see how Cam Newton plays in his limited appearances Friday, as the quarterback will wear a flak jacket during games but has not worn it during training camp according to ESPN. Newton suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs last preseason.

              * Bills fans won't be seeing E.J. Manuel on the field Friday. Matt Cassel will get the start with Tyrod Taylor backing him up according to Tyler Dunne of The Buffalo News.

Pittsburgh Steelers at Jacksonville Jaguars (PK, 36.5)

              * The Steelers lost reliable kicker Shaun Suisham for the year when he tore his ACL attempting to make a tackle in the Hall of Fame game. They have signed former Saints kicker Garret Hartley. He has hit 81.7 percent of kicks in his career, but has been mostly out of the league since 2013.

              * The Jaguars ranked last in interceptions and pass break-ups last season, but gave Davon House and Sergio Brown starter money this offseason. Though their snaps will be limited, their play against the Steelers receivers could speak volumes.

New York Giants at Cincinnati Bengals (-3, 37)

              * To the surprise of no one, Odell Beckham Jr. was unstoppable in the joint practice between the Giants and Bengals Wednesday. The sophomore receiver nabbed three touchdown passes throughout practice.

              * Andy Dalton was also shining in the joint practice Wednesday, as the quarterback completed 67 percent of his passes against the Giants secondary even though A.J. Green's snaps were limited.

St. Louis Rams at Oakland Raiders (PK, 36)

              * Unlike the Raiders, the Rams will not be sending their first round pick to the field Friday. Tood Gurley has already been ruled out of the preseason and is expected to miss the start of the season as well.

              * Though Amari Cooper will be making his first NFL apperance Friday, there is already some high-praise for the young man. "One thing I can say about him is the guy gets better at something every day, whether it's a step here or there on his route," quarterback Derek Carr said.

Denver Broncos at Seattle Seahawks (-5, 37)

              * Peyton Manning will sit out the preseason opener for the first time since 2012, his first year with the team. Manning is learning a new offense implemented by Gary Kubiak and the new coaching staff. Expect 2012 second-round pick, Brock Osweiler to take the majority of the snaps Friday.

              * All-Pro tight end Jimmy Graham makes his Seahawks debut Friday night and while offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell says the addition of Graham won't change the Marshawn Lynch based offense, the 6-foot-7 touchdown machine fits right in.

Blue Jays go for franchise record 12th straight win

The Toronto Blue Jays will attempt to set a franchise record for consecutive wins with 12, when they host the opener of a three-game series with the New York Yankees.

The odds are backing the Jays will do it too, with lefty David Price on the mound the Jays are currently on the board at -231. The streak includes a three-game sweep of the Yankees in Yankee Stadium just last weekend.

The Yankees will counter with right-hander Ivan Nova.

                -------------------------------

Keuchel is still unbeaten at Minute Maid Park

Dallas Keuchel has been near unhittable when pitching in Houston this season. In Keuchel's 12 starts at home the left-hander is 10-0 with two complete games.

Keuchel has a stellar 1.26 ERA when starting at Minute Maid Park with opponents only hitting .179.

The Astros are currently -208 when they host the Detroit Tigers Friday.

                ----------------------------------

The under is red-hot with Garcia on the mound

Jamie Garcia has been a great under play this season, with the St. Louis Cardinals failing to top the closing total in seven of his past eight starts. In those eight starts, Garcia has only surrendered eight earned runs.

The Cards are the top under play in the MLB this season with a 41-68-5 mark on the season.

St. Louis hosts the Miami Marlins Friday with a current total of 7.

                -----------------------------------

White Sox becoming a smoking hot over play

The Chicago White Sox have gone over the closing total in 13 of their past 16 games. Those 16 games have seen the Sox and their opponents combine for an average of 11 runs per game.

Before this hot over trend, the White Sox were one of the top under teams in baseball. Chicago is currently 50-58-4 over/under this season.

The White Sox host the Cubs Friday with the total currently set at 8.5.

                -------------------------------

Rays' offense has over tickets cashing

The Tampa Bay Rays have gone over in seven of their past eight contests, thanks to their offense. The Rays offense has been averaging 5.5 runs over their past eight, which is an average of 1.7 runs more than their season average.

The Rays visit the Texas Rangers Friday with a current total of 9.

                --------------------------------

                Braves sign RHP Jackson

The Atlanta Braves signed free agent right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson on Friday for the remainder of the season.

Jackson was in Atlanta for Friday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Jackson, 31, made 23 appearances for the Chicago Cubs this season, all in relief. He went 2-1 with a 3.19 ERA in 31 innings prior to being released on July 27. Now in his 13th major league season, Jackson has compiled a career record of 86-105 in 316 games (262 starts), with a 4.61 ERA.

To make room for Jackson on the 25-man roster, the Braves optioned right-handed pitcher Ryan Kelly to Triple-A Gwinnett.

The Braves also claimed right-hander Danny Burawa off waivers from the New York Yankees and assigned him to Triple-A. The Yankees had designated Burawa for assignment.

                        NFL warns players about fighting

                        Aug 14, 2015

The NFL issued a warning Friday about fighting after a number of recent incidents during training camp.

NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent sent a memo to all 32 teams reminding players that prohibiting fights during games will be a point of emphasis for officials.

Vincent's memo, obtained by FOX Sports, reiterates that the 2015 league policy for players tells them "don't fight, and if a fight breaks out involving other players, stay away." The memo was sent to team executives, general managers and head coaches.

"These rules are in place for the protection and safety of our players to keep them on the field," Vincent wrote. "As professionals, no matter how emotional the game becomes, there is nothing that should resort to fighting. Coaches are encouraged to emphasize to players, coaches, and other club personnel who are on the sidelines, that fighting will not be tolerated.

"We greatly appreciate all of your efforts to advance our great game, keep it competitive and professional, and to ensure that it is played at the highest standards."

The penalty for fighting in a game is 15 yards with a potential ejection if the foul is judged by the referee to be flagrant.

On Tuesday, New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith had his jaw broken in two spots when he was punched in the locker room by teammate IK Enemkpali. Smith underwent surgery Thursday and is expected to be out six to 10 weeks.

The Smith-Enemkpali situation is being reviewed as an act addressed by the NFL's personal-conduct policy under the workplace misconduct clause, according to reports.

Enemkpali was released after the Tuesday incident and then claimed off waivers the next day by the Buffalo Bills, who are coached by Rex Ryan, formerly with the Jets when they drafted him in 2014.

Tempers flared at the Carolina Panthers' training camp on Monday when quarterback Cam Newton and cornerback Josh Norman ended up in a fight. The incident occurred when Norman intercepted Newton two plays into a team drill.

The joint practice last Saturday between the Houston Texans and Washington Redskins was disrupted by a series of brawls. Several fights broke out on two separate practice fields at the Redskins' training camp facility in Richmond, Va.

Under the hot play in early preseason action

                          Aug 14, 2015

The under has been the hot play early in NFL preseason action so far, going 5-1-1 through seven games.

This should be expected in Week 1 of the preseason, even with lower totals, starters are seeing limited to no action.

There are another six games on tap for Friday, so make sure to check out our Scores and Matchups page to see if this trend will continue.
