    Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

Spreads for six of the NFL's more interesting games this season

-- Week 12 Ravens -2.5 @ Browns on a cold Monday night in Cleveland.

-- Week 13 Cowboys -3 @ Redskins on a cold Monday night in Maryland.

-- Week 14 Seahawks -1.5 @ Ravens-- Long trip for NFC champs.

-- Week 15 Bucs @ Rams -7-- Is this the week Rams clinch NFC West? Ha!!!

-- Week 16 Bengals @ Broncos -6 on a chilly Monday night in Denver.

-- Week 17 Eagles @ Giants even-- How many QBs will Eagles go thru this year?

    **********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Random stuff with weekend here........

    13) Roughly 20 people running for President, but no bald men? How is that possible? There is a conspiracy in this country against baldness and it stinks. Hillary Cinton is running around with the Kardashians but will probably be the Democratic nomineee, yet a bald man can't even make it into a debate? Sad day to be an American.

    12) No matter what you think of Donald Trump, I agree with him 1,000% on one thing; this country has become too damn politically correct. God forbid someone be offended by something, everyone has to walk on eggshells. We all have the freedom of speech, it is invaluable and the second we lose that, it'll be a very bad day.

Enough about politics, lets move on to the important stuff.........
    11) DeSean Jackson screwed up his shoulder hitting a blocking sled; he'll be out for most of the preseason-- not good for the Redskins.

    10) Dallas plays at Washington in a Monday night game December 7; if you're a Dallas coach, when you go to production meetings with the ESPN guys, how you can even talk to Jon Gruden? His brother coaches the Redskins!!!

    9) Some very good matchups at Battle of Atlantis basketball tournament in November; Washington-Gonzaga and Texas A&M-Texas are couple of local rivalries that will get renewed a long way from home. UConn-Syracuse is a possible second day game.

    8) Houston Astros are 13 games ahead of Oakland in the AL West, but if you look at the teams' records, you see that if every game ended after the 5th inning, Houston has a 46-44-20 record, Oakland 49-46-15.

That means the Astros gained 13.5 games on the A's in innings 6-9 and in extra innings, which underlines how brutal Oakland is in clutch situations, and how good Houston has been. Bullpen quality is a tenuous thing, but now the Astros have added Gomez and Correa and are the most talented they've been since the Bagwell/Biggio era.

    7) St Louis Cardinals drafted pitcher Michael Wacha with the compensation pick they got for Albert Pujols signing with the Angels.

    6) Cubs have a big decision coming up; where do they put Kyle Schwarber in the field? He probably hits too well to be a full-time catcher; those guys take a physical beating , which would diminish his offense. Left field looks like a good landing spot.

    5) Brutal week for the Twins, who have lost five games in a row by a combined score of 30-13. they started the week holding one of the Wild Card spots, but didn't look at all playoff-worthy in their four-game beatdown in Toronto.

    4) It is odd seeing the Tigers as non-contenders; they sold off guys at the deadline, they canned the GM, their owner is 85-- you wonder what is down the road for them.

    3) Golfers get paid big bucks to switch equipment, but Keegan Bradley went back to his old driver Thursday and shot a 69, hitting 11 of 14 fairways. He hadn't used the old driver in more than two years.

    2) Patriot fans have to stop whining about Roger Goodell; face it guys, they've been cheating for years and the league finally had enough. Be quiet, move on and hope the backup QB is good enough to go 2-2 or 3-1 in the first four games.

    1) Thank you Jon Stewart, for helping show that people can laugh and think at the same time; his 16-year run on Comedy Central came to an end last night.

See spot. See spot bet: This week's best spot bet opportunities

      Lookahead spot

Things are heating up north of the border. Since making the biggest splash in the majors during the trade deadline, the Toronto Blue Jays have played like World Series contenders and ride a 7-1 winning clip into Thursday’s series finale with the Minnesota Twins.

However, Toronto could get caught looking past this matchup with Minnesota and to Friday’s series opener with the New York Yankees. A series win over the Bronx Bombers would solidify the Jays' place as the team to beat in the AL East, with Toronto 5.5 games back of New York in the standings as of Wednesday. That eagerness to test this revamped roster against the Yankees could open up Toronto for a letdown spot against the Twins Thursday.

      Schedule spot

Keeping things in Toronto, the CFL’s Argonauts make their Rogers Centre debut this weekend hosting Saskatchewan in their first official home game of the 2015 season. Thanks to the Pan Am Games taking over the Big Smoke, the Argos were on the road for their first five games, including a season-opening “home game” against Edmonton in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Toronto has done well for facing sure a tough and quirky challenge to start the season, going 3-2 SU and 4-1 ATS. The Argos got caught looking ahead to the comforts of home last week in Hamilton, losing 34-18 as 3.5-point underdogs. Oddsmakers have pegged Toronto as a 9.5-point favorite at home to the winless Rough Riders Saturday.

      Letdown spot

The Texas Longhorns are a program in flux as the 2015 college football campaign gets closer. The Horns enter Year 2 under Charlie Strong and while they are still a very capable and talented program, Texas is a far cry from its national title days.

For Strong, showing the Longhorns can compete against the Big 12 elite is imperative to the growth of this program - even if that means just one marquee win. And that entails taking down the likes of TCU or hated rival Oklahoma, who highlight Weeks 5 and 6 for Texas. That back-to-back gauntlet is followed by a bye week then a home game against Kansas State. If Texas can't stand its ground against the Horned Frogs or Sooners, Strong may lose his grip on this program and it's players, lining up a letdown in Week 8.

Zimmermann has been dealing at Nationals Park

Jordan Zimmermann has enjoyed sleeping in his own bed recently and has been a major reason why the Washington Nationals have won his past four starts at home. In Zimmermann's past four home starts he has six earned runs while striking out 20 over 26.0 innings pitched.

Zimmermann's splits on the season show he prefers to be at Nationals Park, with a 4-3 record and a 2.53 ERA in 12 home starts this season.

In the past three seasons Zimmermann has clashed with the Colorado Rockies five times with a 2.18 ERA and a 3-0 record.

The Nats will host the Rockies Friday.

Lester is red-hot on the Under

Chicago Cubs left-hander Jon Lester has been a fantastic play for bettors banking on low totals this season.

The Under has gone 9-1 in Lester's 10 outings. Ryan Vogelsong is the probable starter for San Francisco against Lester's Cubs in MLB action friday.

As of this writing, the total was off the board.

Kelly hurting the pockets of BoSox backers

The Boston Red Sox haven't been getting the job done behind starting pitcher Joe Kelly recently, dropping five out of the last six games he's taken the hill.

Kelly and the BoSox will be seeking to buck that trend Friday versus Daniel Norris and the Detroit Tigers.

Sportsbooks are presently dealing Boston in the +116 ballpark.

Kershaw cruising under totals in recent starts

The Under is 7-0 in Clayton Kershaw's last seven outings.

The Dodgers ace is listed as the probable starter for Friday's matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Gerrit Cole is slated to counter for the Buccos.

As a result of the talent on the mound, sportsbooks have tabbed the game with a low six run total.

Surging Dickey has been money for Jays bettors

Toronto Blue Jays knuckleballer R.A. Dickey has looked like the pitcher who won the NL Cy Young Award in 2012 over the past few weeks.

Dickey has had his struggles since coming north of the border a few years ago, but the 40-year-old is 3-0 with a 0.77 ERA to go along with 16 strikeouts in his previous three starts. The veteran has only surrendered two earned runs during that span.

Dickey is slated to get the ball Friday in the Bronx against Nathan Eovaldi and the New York Yankees.

Pinnacle Sports has priced the Jays as slight +102 moneyline pups.

Blue Jays are sizzling since acquiring Tulowitzki

The new-look Toronto Blue Jays are red-hot lately, and Blue Jays backers have been praising general manager Alex Anthopoulos for one particular move.

Since acquiring five time All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki from the Colorado Rockies last week, the Jays are a perfect 8-0. "Tulo" has become the first player in the team's history to emerge victorious in his first eight ball games with the club.

Friday marks the beginning of a crucial weekend series for Toronto against the AL East-leading New York Yankees. Sportsbooks are currently offering the Bluebirds in the +102 ballpark.
