Saskatchewan losses QB for remainder of season

The Saskatchewan Roughriders starting quarterback Darian Durant suffered a ruptured left Achilles in Saturday's 30-26 loss to Winnipeg and will miss the remainder of the CFL season.

Durant, who led the Roughriders to the CFL's Grey Cup title back in 2013, will be replaced by veteran backup Kevin Glenn.

Saskatchewan hosts the Toronto Argonauts next Sunday. The line is currently off the board.

      ------------------------------

Why you must pay attention to CFL action

If you don't follow the CFL closely, you probably won't have much an idea of what is going on, but if you do, there is definitely some money to be made for the average sports bettor.

For example, underdogs went an incredible 4-0 against the spread and 3-1 straight up in Week 1 of CFL action. Ottawa, Winnipeg and Toronto all won SU and ATS. The lone favorite to win was Calgary and they did so by just one point, 24-23 over Hamilton.

Lines for Week 2 are currently off the board, but keep a close an on those opening lines on our Scores and Mactchups page.

Cole Hamels hasn’t ruled out a trade to Astros or any other club.

The Phillies lefthanded ace who’s been on the trade block seemingly forever clarified his stance Saturday in a talk with CSNPhilly.com’s Jim Salisbury.

The 31-year-old Hamels, who owns a career record of 113-89 and 3.27 ERA since debuting in 2006 with Philadelphia, did not deny that the Astros are one of 20 teams on his no-trade list.

“I had to make a list back in October,” Hamels told Salisbury. “I came up with a criteria based on a lot of things — winning and losing, family. It was only nine teams. Those teams were in the middle of the pack.”

The Astros’ newfound winning ways, though, seem to put them in a different light now.

“They just didn’t make the nine-team list,” Hamels said of the Astros. “When I made the list in October –- who knew?”

Hamels, currently 5-6 despite an impressive 3.26 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 106 strikeouts in 99 1/3 innings, is signed through 2018 and entered this season with four years and $96 million remaining on his contract. He has a $20 million team option for 2019 that could be used as leverage to waive his no-trade clause — i.e., if a club he has a blocked a trade to, such as the Astros, wants him to waive the clause, they’d have to pick up the option first.

The veteran lefthander has pitched in 13 postseason games, compiling a 7-4 record with a 3.09 ERA while leading the Phillies to a back-to-back World Series appearances in 2008-09. He was MVP of the NLCS and World Series in 2008 when Philadelphia defeated Tampa Bay.

Per Salisbury, the nine teams Hamels has not restricted a trade to are the Yankees, Rangers, Nationals, Cardinals, Braves, Padres, Dodgers, Cubs and Mets.

Hamels said he’s open-mineded to anything.

“Yes,” he said. “I’ve always been open-minded. I will think about everything.”
