    Armadillo: Friday's six-pack

-- Astros have scored 47% of their runs on home runs, tops in MLB.

-- Pro Football Focus reports that Joe Flacco lost 472 passing yards last year on balls that were dropped, 82 more yards than any other QB lost.

-- Dodgers scored total of nine runs in Zach Greinke's last seven starts that weren't at Coors Field in Denver.

-- Giancarlo Stanton has 27 HRs; only one came on the first pitch of an at-bat.

-- Mets called up pitching prospect Steven Matz; he is expected to start Sunday.

-- Last pitcher to steal home plate? Dodgers' Darren Dreifort, in 2001.

    **********

Armadillo: Friday's List of 13: Thoughts after watching the NBA Draft....

    13) Generally enjoy Jalen Rose's work on the NBA Draft; he came up with a strong number last night: only 3,988 players have ever played in an NBA game. You have to be a great basketball player just to make it to the league.

    12) A Kentucky alum was taken first in three of the last six NBA Drafts. .

    11) Fran Fraschilla called Orlando draft pick Mario Hezenja "...the best pure shooter in the draft." Shooters are always marketable.

    10) There have been 19 international lottery picks since Yao Ming was taken in 2002; none of those 19 players made an All-Star team.

    9) Poor Luke Ridnour; veteran guard was on four different teams in a 24-hour span earlier this week, getting traded from Charlotte-Memphis-Oklahoma City-Orlando.

    8) Phoenix Suns went 39-43 LY, missed playoffs by six games; they lost 18 games by 5 or fewer points. Suns currently have five Kentucky alums on their roster.

    7) Apparently, some agents asked the 76ers not to draft their clients, since they're afraid the Sixers are so screwed up they'll never win.

    6) Boston Celtics have six first round draft picks in the next three drafts.

    5) Notre Dame's Pat Connaughton, who has potential as a pitcher (Orioles own his rights in baseball) was drafted by the Nets but traded to Portland. He wants to play in the NBA but it is always nice to have options

    4) Why some teams never, ever win: Minnesota drafted Jonny Flynn and Ricky Rubio before the Warriors drafted Stephen Curry. Oy.

    3) San Antonio drafted a Serbian 7-footer named Nikola Milutinov, who used to be a swimmer. Spurs made out OK with Tim Duncan, a 7-footer who also used to swim. Milutinov is expected to stay in Europe for two years, then go to San Antonio.

    2) Best part of Jay Williams being on ESPN last night was when he started talking, that gave me time to check the baseball scores on the other channel. Williams continues to be terrible on TV but continues to get more prominent gigs.

    1) 18 months ago, my buddy Mike and I sat in Bishop Gorman's gym in Las Vegas and watched Stanley Johnson play for Mater Dei HS. Near the end of the game, I looked at Mike and said "....Stanley Johnson is a high school kid now. 18 months from now, he is going to be really, really rich."

Stanley got picked by Detroit last night with the 8th pick. He is now really, really rich.

Jungmann continues to make progress for Brewers

MILWAUKEE -- Another day, another step forward for Taylor Jungmann.

The Milwaukee Brewers' rookie right-hander made his fourth career start Thursday and didn't get a decision after working in and out of jams through five shutout innings in a 2-0 loss to the New York Mets.

Since being called up to Milwaukee June 9, Jungmann has gone 2-1 with a 3.50 ERA. In 23 innings of work, he's stuck out 19 while walking six.

Pedroia lands on DL as Red Sox make multiple moves

BOSTON -- In the hours before Thursday's matinee at Fenway Park, the home clubhouse looked like Grand Central Station.

The Boston Red Sox dramatically altered their roster, making six moves that were necessitated either by injuries or underperformance. A recap:

--Second baseman Dustin Pedroia was placed on the 15-day disabled list after being diagnosed with a strained right hamstring. The Sox purchased the contract of Triple-A shortstop Deven Marrero, who will be used as a utility infielder while utility man Brock Holt gets most of the starts at second base.

--With left fielder Hanley Ramirez nursing a bruised left hand, the Sox recalled outfielder Jackie Bradley Jr. from Triple-A Pawtucket and designated emergency catcher Erik Kratz for assignment.

--Right-hander Joe Kelly was optioned to Triple-A after posting a 5.67 ERA in 14 starts. The Sox purchased the contract of reliever Jonathan Aro from Triple-A and moved right-hander Justin Masterson into the rotation to take Kelly's place.

Avoid the over in Mets games until their bats return

The New York Mets edged the Milwaukee Brewers 2-0 Thursday afternoon and in doing so went under the total for the ninth time in 10 games.

The Mets offense has been non-existent during the 10 game stretch that has under bettors rejoicing, scoring an anemic 1.8 runs per game during that span.

It doesn't get any easier for the Mets Friday as they have to take on Cincinnati Reds ace Johnny Cueto (2.98 ERA, 5-6 O/U). It has resulted in a low total opening at 6.5 runs. The Mets counter with Noah Syndergaard (4.03 ERA, 2-5 O/U).

            Cubs improvement shown in numbers

CHICAGO -- How much improved are the Chicago Cubs from last year's team?

There's a new manager (Joe Maddon), an infusion of young talent (hello, Kris Bryant), a knack for winning the close ones and a loose, upbeat clubhouse.

But numbers both broad and specific through Wednesday help illustrate the differences.

After 71 games the Cubs are 39-32, with a .549 winning percentage that was the third best in the National League and on a pace for 90 wins.

In 2014, the Cubs didn't get their 39th victory until July 10.

Last year, the Cubs were 30-40 after 70 games and 12 1/2 games out of first on the way to a third consecutive fifth place division finish.

The Cubs have 30 of their first 70 games decided by one run this season, going 18-12. The number of one-run games and wins are the most in the majors.

They also had nine walk-off victories, also a major league-best.

              Friday, June 26

This pitcher is winless in his last seven starts

Things have been far from sunny in Philadelphia for Phillies starter Aaron Harang lately.

Much to the chagrin of their backers, the Phils are 0-7 in Harang's previous seven outings. The veteran will have an opportunity to turn things around when Philly hosts Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals on Friday.

Philadelphia is presently +188 on the moneyline.

Will Kluber's road woes continue Friday?

Bettors of the Cleveland Indians have noticed an ugly trend recently concerning last year's Cy Young Award winner.

In Corey Kluber's last eight starts away from home, the Tribe are a paltry 1-7. He'll get the nod on the road once again Friday when the Indians take on Wei-Yin Chen (3-4, 2.89 ERA) and the Baltimore Orioles in Maryland.

Sportsbooks were offering Cleveland in the -108 ballpark as of this writing.

When the Braves face lefties, Overs are cashing

The Over has paid out in each of the Atlanta Braves' last seven games versus a left-handed starter.

Over bettors will be hoping that trend continues Friday when the Braves face off against southpaw Francisco Liriano and the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. Williams Perez is slated to counter for Atlanta.

Oddsmakers have set a total of 7 for the tilt.

Rangers haven't been able to solve Buehrle

If there's one team Toronto Blue Jays left-hander Marc Buehrle loves facing, it's the Texas Rangers.

Buehrle is 4-0 in his last four games versus the Rangers, and he'll get another crack at them north of the border Friday.

Nicholas Martinez is the probable starter for Texas. Pinnacle Sports currently has the Bluebirds priced at -165 with a total of 8.5.

Rays hurting their backers behind Colome

Wins have been hard to come by for the Tampa Bay Rays behind Alex Colome recently, as the club has failed to record a W in his previous six outings.

Tampa will turn to the 26-year-old once again Friday when they welcome the Boston Red Sox to town. Rick Porcello is scheduled to get the nod for the BoSox.

Oddsmakers have tabbed the Rays as slight -116 favorites for the AL East clash.

Low totals have equated to Overs in Mets games

Over bettors will be happy to see a total of 6.5 on Friday's MLB board for the New York Mets-Cincinnati Reds matchup at Citi Field.

In the Mets' last five games with an Over/Under of 6.5, the Over is a perfect 5-0.

Johnny Cueto (4-4, 2.98 ERA) and Noah Syndergaard (2-4, 4.03) are probable to start for the Reds and Mets, respectively.
