Mariners' Cruz out of lineup with back spasms

Right fielder Nelson Cruz was not in the Seattle Mariners' starting lineup Wednesday in Cleveland because of back spasms.

McClendon said Cruz, who is hitting .326 and leads the American League with 18 homers, could be available to pinch-hit.

Cruz left the Mariners' game Tuesday in the fifth inning after fouling off a pitch. Manager Lloyd McClendon said Cruz felt tightness in his back during batting practice and wanted to play through it, but McClendon pulled Cruz from the game during his third at-bat.

Newly acquired Mark Trumbo was expected to play right field Wednesday night against the Indians.

Blackhawks D Timonen back for Game 4

Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Kimmo Timonen will make his Stanley Cup Final debut against the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 4 on Wednesday night.

The 40-year-old Timonen, who is in his final NHL season, hasn't played since Game 5 of the Western Conference final.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville also said defenseman Johnny Oduya likely would play in Game 4 after suffering an upper-body injury against the Lightning in Game 3.

The Lightning beat the Blackhawks 3-2 on Monday night to take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Timonen will replace Kyle Cumiskey on Chicago's blueline.
