    Armadillo: Saturday's six-pack

-- Hawks 94, Wizards 91-- Pierce's fantastic game-tying 3-pointer was nullified by instant replay (after buzzer) and Atlanta advances to Eastern finals.

-- Warriors 108, Grizzlies 95-- Last time Golden State was in Western finals, I was a junior in high school; lets just say it was a long time ago.

-- RIP Garo Yepremian, kicker on Dolphins' 17-0 team who also once kicked six FGs in a game for the Lions.

-- Chris Young the outfielder is 0-16 in his career against Chris Young the pitcher.

-- Mets lost their last five games; they've been scoreless in 1st inning last 12 games.

-- Home teams are 95-24 SU in NBA Game 7's.

Armadillo: Saturday's Den: DDLohaus handicaps the Preakness

We had a nice score for the Kentucky Derby as the race top three finishers proved to be much the best. Our long shot play didn't run poorly.

I was a bit surprised at the performance of Carpe Diem and he may get another look for the Belmont as his trainer has chosen to skip the middle jewel of the Triple Crown.

As I type this the weather for tomorrow at Pimlico is hot with a chance of thunderstorms; in other words, a bit unknown.

The top three finishers come right back for the Preakness and really do appear to be the best three in the race. Wet weather wont impact Kentucky Derby winner American Pharoah and I don't think he ran his best in last. Granted it was good enough to win, but I am not convinced the runners he beat are all that good. American Pharaoh will be a bit tighter and should come right back here and win the race.

Dortmund and Firing Line are very solid contenders and showed they are legit and will make the Derby winner earn the victory. As far as wagering goes, let's face it, there is no value in this race.

I will find myself rooting for American Pharoah so we have a shot at a triple crown in three weeks BUT I will make a wager that will try and get a return and play against the masses. A friend of mine, Hot Dog Paul once said " the big money is going against the crowd".. I am playing with a little house money so I'll take a bit of a flyer....

    The Picks:
    1. American Pharoah
    2. Firing Line
    3. Dortmund
** Longshot Player: Bodhisattva: local horse that ran a nice one in last; may get brave**

    The Bets:
$20Ex American Pharoah, Firing Line, Dortmund/Bodhisattva
$15Ex Bodhisattva/American Pharoah, Dortmund, Firing Line
    $5WPS Bodhisattva

    Total Bets: $120.00

              Giants' Pence to return Saturday

Hunter Pence is expected to rejoin the San Francisco Giants on Saturday.

Manager Bruce Bochy said Pence will be evaluated by the team's training staff when he arrives, but all signs point toward the right fielder being activated.

"He's one of our guys, and we missed him," said Bochy.

Pence hit .444 with a homer and five RBIs while playing in all seven games of last year's World Series. In the regular season, he batted .277 with 20 homers and 74 RBIs.

It was a devastating blow for the Giants when Pence was struck by a pitch from Cubs' right-hander Corey Black and suffered a fractured right forearm in the third spring training game.

Pence made five rehab appearances at Triple-A Sacramento, including Thursday night when he went 3-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs.

MLB betting cheat sheet: Rockies bats go cold as losses pile up
              ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here's a comprehensive look at betting notes for this weekend’s major-league schedule:

              Rocky mountain low

The Colorado Rockies saw their losing streak balloon to 11 games after they went down to the host Los Angeles 2-1 in 11 innings on Thursday. Colorado is no stranger to losses, but a failure to score runs is something new. The team has crossed the plate just 10 times in its last five contests (1-4 O/U). Things may get worse before they get better because next up for the Rockies are the L.A. Dodgers, who are 5-1 in their last six.

              Home cooking

Through three starts at home, Ubaldo Jimenez of the Baltimore Orioles is 3-0 with a 0.86 ERA. In three road outings, Jimenez is 0-2 with a 4.97 ERA. The good news for both team and player is that his next start will come at the friendly confines of Camden Yards on Sunday against the Angels.

              Bryant’s song

After failing to go deep in his first 20 games in the majors, highly-touted Chicago Cubs’ third baseman Kris Bryant has left the yard three times in his last five outings (through Wednesday night’s action). Bryant has hit safely in eight of his last 10 games and boasts nine RBIs in his last nine.

              Pitching Notes

              * The Seattle Mariners have won all seven of Felix Hernandez’s starts this season. He is 6-0 with a 1.85 ERA while striking out 50 batters in 48.2 innings. The under is 5-1-1 when King Felix takes the mound. He will be back on the bump for Saturday’s game against the Boston Red Sox.

              * The San Francisco Giants will kick off their four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds with the one-two punch of Tim Lincecum and Madison Bumgarner. Lincecum, who has won each of his last two starts, is 3-2 with a 2.00 ERA this season. Bumgarner is 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA, but he has lowered his mark from 5.29 in his last four outings.

              Hitting Notes

              * Four everyday players for the Dodgers are hitting well over .400 in the past week: right fielder Andre Either (.467), catcher Yasmani Grandal (.467), second baseman Howie Kendrick (.455), and third baseman Alex Guerrero (.444). Los Angeles (22-11, 20-11-2 O/U) is 5-1 in its last six games, 4-0 O/U in its last four, and 7-1-1 O/U in its last nine.

              * The Detroit Tigers are 0-4 O/U in their last four overall as a result of a complete silencing of the bats. First baseman Miguel Cabrera is batting .150 in his last six games and catcher James McCann has the same average in his last five. Left fielder Yoenis Cespedes is 4-for-23 with no homers and one RBI in his last six. The Tigers have scored a total of seven runs in their last four outings.

              Totals Streak

Washington Nationals (22-12-1 O/U): The Nationals have played seven consecutive games that have gone over the total. They have scored 26 runs in their last three, 55 in their last seven, and they have not crossed the plate fewer than five times in any game since last Tuesday. Washington’s 167 runs this season are second most in the National League behind the Dodgers.

              Injury Notes

              * St. Louis Cardinals’ outfielder Matt Holliday left Wednesday’s game against the Cleveland Indians after being hit by a pitch on the left elbow. X-rays were negative and Holliday (.336, 3 HR, 21 RBI) is day-to-day with a contusion.

              * Oakland Athletics’ first baseman Ike Davis (.282, 2 HR, 11 RBI) suffered a strained left hamstring on Monday and is not expected to return to the lineup until Sunday. The A’s are scheduled to face lefties on Friday and Saturday, so there is no reason to rush Davis back. This period of rest could help him avoid a stint on the disabled list.

Nationals' high-octane offense has the Over on fire

In light of a 10-0 rout of the San Diego Padres Friday, the Washington Nationals have now cashed Over tickets in nine straight games.

During that span, the Nats have scored 73 runs while allowing opposing runners to cross the plate just 33 times. Matt Williams' club sends Max Scherzer to the bump on Saturday while the Pads are scheduled to counter with Andrew Cashner.

Oddsmakers have tabbed the matchup with a low 6.5 run total.

Greinke aims to continue unbeaten run Saturday

It has been awhile since Zack Greinke took a loss.

Going into his start Saturday against the Colorado Rockies, the Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander is unbeaten in his past 15 starts, going 10-0 (the Dodgers have won 12 of the 15 games) with a 1.94 ERA since losing to the Milwaukee Brewers last August.

Greinke's start this season is his best since his Cy Young Award season with the Kansas City Royals in 2009.

That year, Greinke was 5-1 with a remarkable 0.51 ERA through seven starts, holding opposing batters to a .184 average while striking out 59 and walking only eight in 53 innings.

Through his first seven starts this season, Greinke is 5-0 with a 1.52 ERA, while holding hitters to a .185 average while striking out 39 and walking 11 in 47 1/3 innings.
