    • Armadillo: Sunday's six-pack

-- Warriors 109, Pelicans 98-- Golden State first NBA team to advance.

-- Bucks 92, Bulls 90-- Good side out of bounds play got Bucks winning hoop.

-- Grizzlies 115, Blazers 109-- Is Memphis the most obscure good team in all of professional sports?

-- Calgary 7, Vancouver 4-- Flames' first playoff series win since 2004.

-- Orioles 5, Red Sox 4 (10)-- Weird night in Baltimore; fans were told to stay inside the ballpark, even if the game ended, due to protests outside the stadium. Then the Orioles tied the game; extra inning gave cops enough time to quell the protests.

-- Cardinals 5, Brewers 3-- St Louis may have lost Wainwright for season.

      **********

Armadillo: Sunday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports Saturday........

      13) There are rumors about that the Bulls will fire coach Tom Thibodeau when the season ends, despite his 255-139 regular season record; Scott Brooks got canned despite a terrific record, Lionel Hollins, Vinny Del Negro and George Karl all got sacked two years ago-- they all had won 56+ regular season games.

To paraphrase Vince Lombardi on that NFL Films clip, "What the hell's going on out there?!?!" Seems like there is too much politics in NBA coaching.

      12) New York media has already declared Matt Harvey to be the next Koufax, but Al Leiter had a good tidbit during Saturday's game; when CC Sabathia was Harbey's age, he had already started 178 big league games and won a Cy Young. award-- he got a much earlier start and may be finished earlier, too.

      11) The dimensions in Yankee Stadium are a joke; its a softball park in right field and its going to prevent them from having good pitchers, because who in their right mind wants to pitch half their games there? It is every bit as bad as pitching in Coors Field.

      10) Minnesota Twins scored a total of four runs in losing Phil Hughes' first four starts; Toronto scored 13-12-12 runs in Mark Buehrle's first three starts.

      9) I'm not a big fan of strict platooning in baseball; one team pinch-hit for a lefty hitter in the 4th inning of a game last summer, because the other side put a lefty pitcher in. If a guy isn't good enough to play the first five innings of a game, then he shouldn't be starting in the first place.

      8) Through Friday's games, the major league batting average was .245; if the first pitch of an at-bat was put into play, that went up to .318.

      7) Ben Zobrist is out 4-6 weeks after getting his knee scoped; A's got taken by Tampa Bay on this trade; Zobrist is damaged goods, a 33-year old who played several years on artficial turf. Go figure.

Oakland's season is already headed for the ashcan; their bullpen sucks, they can't hit lefties-- they're 30-45 since trading Yoenis Cespedes last July 31.

      6) Speaking of the Rays, they're 0-10 on replay challenges this season.

      5) Mets' rookie catcher Kevin Plawecki hit his first career homer in the Bronx yesterday; my question is this-- if you caught that ball in the bleachers, how much you charging him for it? You have him over a barrel, its his first career home run ball-- HE HAS TO HAVE IT!!!

Let me know what your ideas are....I have my own idea.

      4) Steve Stricker missed the cut in New Orleans this week, meaning longest current streak of consecutive cuts made on Tour is Matt Kuchar, at 22.

      3) Wow I was watching the Houston-Dallas game on TV Friday night; I'd get tired of the Dallas PA guy pretty darn quick if I went to games there. Tone it down a little, big fella. No need to make everyone deaf.

      2) There are betting lines out on some NFL games already; draft is next week, so how you betting games so long before the season starts, before you even know who all the starting quarterbacks are?

      1) Peyton Manning donated $3M to Tennessee's football program; thats three million, with an M. How much money does this guy have?

Buehrle the Blue Jays luck charm versus Rays

The Toronto Blue Jays will send veteran Mark Buehrle to the mound to face the Tampa Bay Rays Sunday. The leftie has meant wins when the Jays and Rays meet, with Toronto winning six of Buehrle's past seven starts against Tampa.

Buehrle has only allowed 2.4 runs per outing in those seven games, while twice leaving a zero in the runs column.

The Rays are expected to start Chris Archer opposite Buehrle Sunday.

Indians a hot Under play with Carrasco pitching

The Over/Under count as gone 1-13 in Carlos Carrasco's previous 14 starts for the Cleveland Indians making the AL Central club a hot Under wager when the Venezuelan gets the ball.

Those 14 games have seen Carrasco allow an average of only 1.2 runs per outing while registering 7.3 K's per game. Hell, teams can't even hit Carrasco, as he has only given up four hits per game during that span while only allowing more than four hits 21 percent of the time.

The Indians have already proven to be a solid under play as the team has posted a 5-10 O/U mark overall this season, but an even better 2-8 away from Cleveland. You can thank Cleveland's lack of offense this season, as the team has averaged a mere 3.80 runs per game, good for twenty-first in the majors.

Carrasco is slated to get the start when the Indians visit the Detroit Tigers Sunday.

MLB roundup: Orioles pull out 10-inning win

BALTIMORE -- After Baltimore blew a ninth-inning lead and then fell behind in the 10th against the Boston Red Sox, the Orioles rallied for a dramatic 5-4 victory on a homer by left fielder David Lough on Saturday night.

The Orioles snapped a five-game losing streak. The Red Sox have lost five of eight games after starting the season 7-3.

Boston's Xander Bogaerts led off the 10th with a home run against Baltimore right-hander Brad Brach (1-1) that gave the Red Sox a 4-3 lead. But Orioles center fielder Adam Jones started the bottom half of the inning with a triple off Koji Uehara (1-1) and first baseman Chris Davis tied the score on a sacrifice fly before Lough's towering shot to right won it.

Baltimore's Jimmy Paredes had a career-high four hits, including his third homer of the year.

            Tigers 4, Indians 1

DETROIT -- Victor Martinez drove in three runs and Alfredo Simon won his fourth straight start, allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings to halt Detroit's four-game losing streak.

The right-handed Simon (4-0), acquired in an offseason deal with Cincinnati, struck out three, walked two and allowed six hits before being relieved by lefty Tom Gorzelanny, who got the final out of the seventh.

Gorzelanny also worked the eighth and got Brandon Moss to ground into a first-pitch, inning-ending double play with runners on first and third. Joakim Soria pitched the ninth to earn his sixth save.

Cleveland left-hander T.J. House (0-3) was called on to make an emergency start in place of scheduled right-hander Trevor Bauer, who was ill.

            Mets 8, Yankees 2

NEW YORK -- An 8 2/3-inning effort from right-hander Matt Harvey and 12 hits from seven players fueled a New York Mets win.

Harvey (4-0) continued his April dominance, giving up two runs and five hits and striking out seven. He is now 8-0 lifetime in April. The Mets (14-4) have won 12 of their last 13 games. The Yankees' four-game winning streak was snapped.

Center fielder Juan Lagares led the Mets at the plate, going 4-for-4 and tying a career high for hits in a game.

Yankees starter C.C. Sabathia (0-4) was tagged for seven earned runs and nine hits with two strikeouts while allowing three home runs.

            Braves 5, Phillies 2

PHILADELPHIA -- Eric Young Jr. doubled home the go-ahead run in a three-run seventh inning as Atlanta rallied to beat the Philadelphia, ending a four-game losing streak.

Shelby Miller (3-0) pitched six innings for the victory. Braves shortstop Andrelton Simmons homered to start the seventh-inning uprising.

First baseman Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer for Philadelphia, which has dropped nine of 12.

            Marlins 8, Nationals 0

MIAMI -- Giancarlo Stanton and Justin Bour provided offense and Tom Koehler turned in an excellent pitching performance for Miami in its fourth straight win.

The Marlins (7-11) handed the Nationals (7-11) their fourth straight loss and will go for a three-game sweep of the series on Sunday.

Stanton went 3-for-3 with a towering home run, a double, a walk and two RBIs. Bour, a rookie first baseman making his first start of the season, went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Miami shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria added a three-run homer in the eighth, extending his hitting streak to eight games and boosting Miami's lead to 8-0.

Koehler (2-2) pitched 7 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing six hits and one walk while striking out four. The Nationals failed to get a runner past second base in the game.

            Cardinals 5, Brewers 3

MILWAUKEE -- St. Louis clinched its fifth series win of the season but suffered a potential blow when ace Adam Wainwright left in the fifth inning after sustaining a left ankle injury.

Leading off the fifth, Wainwright hit a popup to Milwaukee first baseman Adam Lind and tripped while running toward first, appearing to roll the ankle as he exited the batter's box. He hobbled off the field and did not return.

The Cardinals jumped on the Brewers early, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, and went ahead 5-0 in the seventh on a three-run homer by left fielder Matt Holliday.

            Astros 9, A's 3

OAKLAND, Calif. -- Second baseman Jose Altuve hit a three-run homer and right fielder George Springer had a solo shot as Houston defeated Oakland.

The Astros (10-7) are off to their best start since 2006 when they were 12-5.

Astros right-hander Scott Feldman (2-2) allowed three runs and five hits in 6 2/3 innings. He blanked the A's for the first six innings before giving up three runs in the seventh.

            Rays 4, Blue Jays 2

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay rallied with three runs in the eighth inning to beat Boston.

Rays reliever Brad Boxberger pitched a perfect ninth inning to cap the comeback win. Third baseman Evan Longoria went 4-for-4 with a double and four singles. The four hits tied a career high that he has achieved five times.

            Pirates 2, Diamondbacks 1

PHOENIX -- Startling Marte singled in Neil Walker with two outs in the ninth inning to lift Pittsburgh past Arizona.

Walker doubled off Addison Reed (0-1) with two outs before Marte grounded a single into left field through a hole vacated when the Diamondbacks over-shifted to put shortstop Cliff Pennington more in the hole than normal.

Tony Watson (1-1) gave up singles to Ender Inciarte and A.J. Pollock to open the eighth but got out of the inning on a grounder, a foul popout and a strikeout. Mark Melancon pitched the ninth for his fifth save as the Pirates won their season-high fourth straight.

            Royals-White Sox, ppd. rain

CHICAGO -- In a scheduled four-game series between Chicago and Kansas City that had already seen about everything imaginable, a full-scale rainout at U.S. Cellular Field only made sense.

A day after the second game of the series was suspended following the eighth inning with the Royals and White Sox tied at 2-2, forecasted rain for the entire day prompted team officials to cancel Saturday's game.

No makeup date was announced. Friday's game will be completed prior to the start of Sunday's series finale.

            Cubs-Reds, ppd. rain

CINCINNATI -- After a 4-hour, 13-minute rain delay, the Chicago-Cincinnati game was postponed.

The postponement was the 10th since Great American Ball Park opened in 2003. No makeup date was scheduled.

The Reds have had three of their seven home games delayed by rain. Cincinnati has also had three extra-inning games at home, including a 7-3 loss to the Cubs in 11 innings Friday night.

              Blue Jays struggling as underdogs

The Toronto Blue Jays haven't relished the underdog role, going just 1-8 in their last nine games as a pup between +110 to +150.

The odds are against the Jays Sunday as they are currently +125 road dogs for their series finale with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Jays send veteran Mark Buehrle to the hill, while the Rays counter with Chris Archer.

                • Armadillo: Monday's six-pack

-- Wizards 125, Raptors 94-- Gutless tank job by Toronto, which was favored to win series but got swept instead, not even bothering to compete in Game 4.

-- Clippers 114, Spurs 105-- Best series on paper has turned out that way.

-- Cavaliers 101, Celtics 93-- Love got hurt, JR Smith got tossed/suspended.

-- Minnesota 4, St Louis 1-- Wild faces Chicago in next round.

-- Montreal 2, Ottawa 0-- Senators had a terrific year, nonetheless.

-- Orioles 18, Red Sox 7-- Think Ben Cherington called Philly last night?

                  **********

Armadillo: Monday's List of 13: Wrapping up a sports weekend........

                  13) Kevin Love separated his shoulder Sunday, is expected to miss 2+ weeks, which is pretty much the entire next playoff series. JR Smith will be suspended for Game 1 of next series. Expensive win for Cleveland.

                  12) Mike Conley has multiple facial fractures, is out for the Grizzlies' game in Portland tonight; he flew back to Memphis over the weekend.

                  11) If I designed a golf course, there would be a lot of water on it, maybe small streams running parallel to the fairways. Sand traps look nice but are a waste of time. Water is intimidating, makes the course a lot harder.

                  10) Dodgers' Alex Guerrero has 13 RBI in 23 plate appearances; why doesn't he play more? Its not like they have Mike Schmidt at third base.

                  9) Dodgers put Yasiel Puig on the DL and replaced him with Andre Ethier, who makes $18M a year. Must be nice to have such well-paid subs.

                  8) Max Scherzer hurt his thumb batting yesterday, says he now favors using the DH. Adam Wainwright hurt his ankle/achilles batting Saturday, is probably out for the year. I'm against the DH; why can't pitchers be better at hitting?

                  7) Tampa Bay's Chris Archer allowed one earned run in his last four starts (26.2 IP). Rays get Matt Moore back from injury, they might be better than all of us thought this spring.

                  6) Bronx 6, Queens 4-- ESPN's Sunday night game was a defensive horror for the first few innings. Mets have to shore up their middle infield defense if they're going to be a serious postseason contender.

                  5) Curt Schilling brought up a great point last night; it takes 32-35 good major league players to make the playoffs. I remember in 2012, the A's got help from guys like Brandon Hicks (two walk-off HRs), George Kottaras, Seth Smith- they were in first place for one day that year. Fortunately, it was the last day.

Teams only have 25 guys on their active roster, but over the six-month season, all teams will have injuries and need replacements. The teams that compete for championships have solid depth, even in AAA.

                  4) Former Boston College basketball coach Al Skinner has resurfaced as the coach at Kennesaw State; within 2-3 years, he's going to scare the hell out of some big-name team in the first round of the NCAAs. He can recruit.

                  3) Indiana got very good news when Yogi Ferrell said he is coming back for his senior year; stuff like that gives a program positive momentum.

                  2) *********** has posted spreads for NFL games for Weeks 1-16; Oakland is not favored to win any of its games.

                  1) I love pro football, but good lord I'm sick of all this draft buildup; just wake me up when the draft starts Thursday night. There is too much media and they do way too much speculating. Just tell me what really happens.

Cards' Wainright expected to be done for year

St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright was placed on the 15-day disabled list on Sunday with an Achilles injury, but the outlook could be much worse than initially thought.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports is reporting that the right-hander is expected to be done for the season, but has not yet undergone an MRI. While batting against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday, the 33-year-old popped up a fastball from Wily Peralta but pulled up lame and required assistance to leave the field. He did not return to the game.

                            • Armadillo: Tuesday's six-pack

-- White Sox-Oriole game was postponed because of rioting in Baltimore.

-- Dodgers lose pitcher Brandon McCarthy for the year (torn UCL).

-- Last night was Tampa Bay's 20th game, but their first outdoor game; their road games had been at Toronto/Miami, both domed stadiums.

-- There is a baseball player at U of Iowa named Fenway Parks. Seriously.

-- James Winston threw 18 INTs last year, second-most in country. New Mexico State's quarterback was the only QB who threw more.

-- St John's-Arizona State at MGM Grand in Las Vegas December 22; couple of pretty famous coaches, Chris Mullin and Bobby Hurley.

                              **********

Armadillo: Tuesday's List of 13: Nobody asked me, but........

                              13) Looks like college basketball will have a 30-second clock next fall; I just don't think its going to make a huge difference, if thats the only rule change. It creates a few more possessions per game, but not really that many more.

                              12) Part of the reason Texas Rangers took a shot with Josh Hamilton going to Arlington is their attendance is down 11,160 fans a game since 2012. If it is true that the Rangers will only pay Hamilton $5M a year, that means the Angels are paying Hamilton $20.4M this year and $54.8M over the next two years to play against them!!! That must go over great in the Anaheim clubhouse.

                              11) Golfer Mikko Ilonen should buy Phil Mickelson a nice Christmas present this year; Lefty dropped out of the Match Play tournament this week, which means Ilonen gets in-- even if he loses in the first round, Ilonen bags a check for $50,000 or so.

                              10) According to college football expert Phil Steele, Washington Huskies will play the hardest schedule this fall; U-Dub's opponents had a 101-56 record last fall- they play at Boise State Labor Day weekend.

                              9) Next time Alex Rodriguez hits a homer, he ties Willie Mays with 660 in his career and banks a checks for $6M, but his employers are trying to cheap out and not play the $6M, since they can't cash in on ARod's milestone (buy your own commemorative bat for $299.95!!!!) due to his steroid history.

                              8) Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas closes down for good this Monday, the end of an era, but it is sold out this weekend, with the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight a big ticket in town. Lot of the older casinos in Vegas are slowly going away.

                              7) There is a beer sold at my local grocery store called Arrogant Bastard Ale; I'm not much of a drinker, but thats a tremendous name.

                              6) The 2011 San Diego Padres had eight relief pitchers for most of the year; five of those eight guys are now relievers for the surprisingly good Astros.

                              5) Why teams lose: when the Seahawks took Russell Wilson with the 75th pick in the 2012 Draft, Jacksonvile took a freakin' punter five picks earlier. Why does a team draft a punter in the third round?

                              4) There have been a total of 73 runs scored in Bud Norris' four starts, with Orioles 2-2, outscored 37-36. In Chris Archer's last four starts, there were a total of only fifteen runs scored- Archer allowed one run in his last 26.2 IP.

                              3) Boston has pitching problems; Buchholz/Porcello have at least finished the sixth inning in six of their eight starts, but the other three starters finished six innings only two times in nine starts- that creates too much of a strain on their bullpen. Boston has to trade for a quality starter and soon.

                              2) Both the shortstops on my fantasy team got hurt last night; Jose Reyes has been hurt, but finally went on the DL- he has a broken rib but had been trying to play thru it, not batting lefty because it hurt too much.

Jed Lowrie hurt his thumb sliding into home (why can't anyone slide??); he is flying back to Houston today for an MRI, which sounds ominous. Waiver wire in our 16-team keeper league is amazingly weak at shortstop. Oy.

                              1) Trevor Bauer pitches against the Royals tonight; last night, he had boxing gloves on (real ones) in the dugout during the game, a reference to the issues Kansas City has been having with other teams this month.
